[Completed] After updating ROM, my phone has less storage available for use, HELP!

Originally, I had the Slimbean 4.2.2 ROM on my Galaxy S3 (Non-international version), and everything was fine, but I wanted to update to the SlimKat 4.4.4.
So, with TWRP, I decided to "Format Data" to wipe everything and start over. (I did this numerous times because for some reason the TWRP version I had -- 2.6 -- couldn't install the 4.4.4 ROM. Only when I updated the TWRP version to 2.8 did it install)
Now, however, the usable internal storage is in total only about 3GB. I have a 12GB phone. Somehow, there's NINE whole GB of "system files" which I can't mess with. My phone doesn't need 9 GB of system files...
When I go to "Storage" in settings, this is the breakdown:
Total Space: 12.05 GB
Apps: 0.94 GB
Pictures, Videos: 181 MB
Audio : 360 Mb
Downloads: 26 MB
Cached Data : 103 MB
Misc: 27 MB
AVAILABLE: 1.38 GB <--- What the heck? The sum of all the components should allow for more space than this??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi,
You can try the suggestion in this thread,
> AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III > AT&T Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > Missing storage space
If that doesn't help you can register on XDA and ask about your issue here,

Good luck!
