Tasker - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Just DL the app Tasker for $2.99. I'm trying to set up a profile that when I launch stock Internet apk adguard would be enabled. Is this possible and if it is could anyone give me some tips?
Thank You
Vinny

I may be off topic but if you just need an ad blocker for the stock browser, install an app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.adblockplus.adblockplussbrowser and activate it in the setting of the stock browser. It actually works.

Thank You, Vinny

Works great. Enjoy the stock browser on the Samsung Galaxy S7 because of fingerprint scanning feature. Still have Chrome but the stock browser is now my go to. Thanks again, didn't know that app was available.

Just Import the Adguard On/OFF Profiles to the Tasks Ribbon.
After that go back to the Profile Ribbon, Click add (+) and Choose "App"
Click for example on Chrome and then in the top left corner on back. Now it lets you choose what to do: In this Case Adguard On.
Next step: Click on Add(+) again, App, Choose Chrome and click on the bottom middle "reverse". then go back again and choose "Adguard off".
You can do this now for all your apps with ads.
There is just one Problem for me. Everytime i use the Gear VR i have to turn off/on the tasker service (even if it shows "on") to work again

I see you are from the US, so you have a snapdragon S7. To replace chrome, there is an alternative called RSbrowser https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rsbrowser.browser&hl=fr It's based on a chromium optimized for Snapdragon. It's as fast as the samsung browser on my old galaxy S5 and a lot faster than chrome and has all of this features + built in adblocker (but no fingerprint functionnality).

Defeat that annoying dim browser!

I've created a way to bypass the "undefeatable" screen dimming when browsing the internet. I've attached a modded version of Chrome that will not dim when launched on the SGS4. This is only the first step in a full solution, as this app will not receive updates from the Play Store. This APK can be installed side-by-side with the official app.
What I did was rename the application itself in the manifest and then resign the APK. Pretty simple and a good proof of concept that the way the phone knows to dim is based on a specific list of apps that it checks. The next step to a full solution is to find out where this list is and kill it. I doubt it's in the kernel itself, but I'm not fully ruling that out yet. I'll keep digging for you guys, but at least we have a workaround for the moment.

Doesn't seem to work for me. When i start the browser it is brighter for about half a seconde after that it dims again.

Why don't you use the browser brightness setting?
Are you sure you're launching the modded Chrome and not the market one? I haven't modded "Internet" yet, but I plan on doing that too once this is verified by a few people. I've tried mine off a few reboots now and it's still sticking.

Because there is a dimming "feature" built into the stock ROM somewhere that dims both Internet and Chrome when auto-brightness is disabled and you have the brightness set to max. This is completely independent of the other power saving features and happens even if power saving is disabled.
Works perfectly for me, if your phone gets to hot it'll dim also to prevent over heating

My browsers do not dim anything. I use Chrome and stock and disabled adjust screen tone and use LUX Auto Brightness.

Yup, that's why I'm using dolphin, I find it better, and faster in a lot of different ways over chrome and the stock browser.
Turn off the auto calibration of color in settings - screen.

[Q] how to force the use of a selected app avoiding choice menu

Hi to you all.
I am not using the default browser or the default calendar.
However, each time I open an internet link it asks me which browser to use and if it is punctual or permanent.
When I select permanent it directs me towards settings/general/applications by default.
When I go there, I only find the choice between Touchwiz and Nova my launcher, nothing on browser choice (or Calendar for which I have same issue): no other menu...
Could someone advise where I got it wrong?
Thanks a lot

usually if should ask which app to use and give a choice of always or just once. What country is yours from? maybe it is a regional thing.

[APP] Hovering Controls (emulates Air Gesture from S4)

If you like it, please support!
OP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2351974
The app imitates the beheaviour of Air Gesture from Galaxy S4 (some options need root like gallery swipe and browser scroll) It also emulates Quick Glance, Air Call accept etc etc..
You can also control your music/video players, start your desired app on a move, switch to previous apps, jump to launchscreen....you can check the features bellow.
I had the s4 and remember this. I now have the s5. Did it not come with this? I can't remember where the setting was on the s4 to look on my s5.

S5 comes with it, called Air Wake UP. But this APP offers more functions such as you can hovering your hand above screen to lock it.
I like it. One thing though....is there a way to disable it showing on status bar as running?

[GUIDE] Native Download Booster Settings (No Root)

A lot of people have been having trouble finding out how to enable download booster and until a developer makes a mod to enable the native settings in your settings this is the only wave I know of to be able to do so.
In order to do this you will need to use a third party launcher. In this example I use Nova Launcher - launchers like Apex should work as well (as well as most decent third party launchers).
1. Go to home screen.
2. Hold down your finger on the screen till menu pops up.
3. Click on Shortcuts.
4. Click on Activities.
5. Scroll down to "Settings" and click on it which will open up a long list of things.
6. Scroll through the list till you find Download Booster. Click on it.
7. Now you will have a shortcut on your home screen that will take you to the download booster settings screen.
8. Enable download booster.
9. Enjoy
P.S. Wasn't 100% what forum to put this under as it's obviously not "development" nor did I think it was general or Q/A so I thought here was the most fitting (as it is kinda an "app" I guess?) - mods feel free to move to this to the appropriate forum if need be.

Lol oops when I first wrote this out in an other thread I had already mentioned to use a third party launcher but forgot to mention it here. Good catch!

There's also an app on the play store called activity launcher that will work to open and/or create the shortcut as well.

Also like the S5 from Sprint its there but thats all it is until someone can get it working. When its working it will show both download speeds and show the icon as bright not grey. Unless its working for someone else i just know its not for me same issue with s5 until someone modded it.
I understand what this does, but what is the benefits of enabling this? Does this interfere with Wifi calling?

When its active it will be the same color as your wifi icon. ...on s5 its how it was when they finally got it working
I can confirm that the icon will show up with this method but it does not light up. Looks like the feature is disabled.

Yes all carriers but T-Mobile have i believe. But someone will get it going im sure
Heads up, the Galaxy Tools app in the playstore will add the native icon to the quick settings in the notification bar....just select "Add all Notification Toggles"....throws a few extra in there as well
Works
Its there but don't "work"
I found some other settings that were thought to be lost to this phone. Smart scroll, and hand gesture call answering. Do the same thing, shortcuts, activities, settings, smart scroll and air gesture.

[Q] Defaults?

I have the Verizon S7 and noticed when selecting default apps for browser, pics, video there seems to be no option for "Always" and "Just once". It's a small thing, but always like the popup with options. Any other carrier have this issue?
Don't like to go into Apps>Default app to reset things every time. Anyone know if there is a way to work around this?
Tmob is the same way. It sucks.

yeah, the wife use Zedge to change her txting notification and then realized all her notifications got changed. But when she went back to change her main notification sound the phone went straight to Zedge and didn't list the stock sounds.

Hey, after some digging I found some other Note users had this problem and use the app called "Better Open With" from the play store. Set that app as the default and it'll be a popup with choices again. Samsung tried to make this phone like Apple, we had freedom of choice dammit!
Great find! That app is the answer.

Noticed this also. Soooooo annoying. Thanks for the band-aid app suggestion above until they fix this.

Unfortunately "Better Open With" only partially solves the problem. It has a limited set of intents it listens too an misses many others. For instance if you attempt to send an email from a non-email application "Better Open With" does not show up in the list and you get the default behavior. I reached out to the author of "Better Open With" to see if he wants to open source the application so I can help to extend it. If he does not I'll have to come up with my own solution.
is Better open w/? the only solution for defaults? i've downloaded/installed it, but it never pops up.
How do we " Set that app as the default and it'll be a popup with choices again. "
Thanks

Settings -> Applications -> Default Applications -> Set as default - Locate the application currently set as the default for whatever you are trying to open and choose the "Clear Defaults" button. Now when you attempt to open the file you'll see the chooser again and can select Better Open With.
Just got an ota software update for my international g930f. Browsed around phone settings and found that the app default options r now there. I cleared all app defaults and now when I click for an external link, I get the just once or always option now.
