Auto brightness bug? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I just bought S7 and i have a problem with the auto brightness. If is light near phone, the brighteness raises, but if i cover the sensor it dosen't decrease. I need to lock or uncheck and check Auto to adapt again. Do you have this problem too?

It does take some secounds to dim down but mine does it

Same here. My S7 takes about 4 - 5 secs to dim the screen when I hold my hand over the sensor. Probably lows power to not poll the sensor constantly, if that is what is happening.

Auto brightness issue?

I noticed that my auto brightness will adjust and get bright when I turn on a light but then immediately when I turn the light off the brightness doesn't go back down. Anyone else have this? I'm guessing it's software?

I wanna say its a known issue with the S6, google shows lots of hits.
I have S6 FLAT, and the autobrightness work ok if the phone are horizontal. But if i have the phone in my hand (in an angle more than 10 ° / 20 °) the auto brightnes bright the screen, but when i turn the light off the brightness doesnt back down. But if the phone are horizontal (0° in my hand or in a table, the brightnes bright up and down without problems)
Try to test the auto brightness feature with your phone horizontally.

Ambient Light Sensor Issue with Idol 3 4.7"

I have my display set to automatically adjust brightness and pretty often the display goes haywire. The lighting I'm in won't change, but the display will suddenly become much brighter or dimmer than it was a moment before.
Is anyone else having this issue, or do I have a dud?
some here. screen brightnes going crazy before and after factory reset
I always use lux (paid) and now I have it on luma (camera source for reading the light). Works perfect!

S7 screen issue

I have a small problem with S7 flat (Exynos). Sometimes when I turn on the screen it does something like small blink and then it turns on normally. Is this normal? It's hard to notice but I've made video on which you should be able to see what I mean (20-22 sec).

yeah me too sometimes...
And If I use very low brigthness the display have a strange behavior ...
It's the auto brightness adjusting, the auto brightness is a annoying feature even if u turn it off there's still a secondary one Samsung calls adaptive screen or some bullcrap

Automatic Low Brightness

Does anyone have problem with Automatic low brightness. When i set it, it works but when a notification comes it goes brighter (this is normal) but after 15 seconds when it goes AOD mode sometimes screen not goes dark again even in low light environment. it keeps itself bright. Then i need to push the one of the buttons to awake the watch then auto brightness low works well as it should be. I dont thing this watch has a good light sensor like s7 or s7 edge phone.

Although i notice this too, it is not sensor's fault, watch does have an excellent ambient sensor. You can test ambient sensor in:
Settings -> Gear Info -> About Device -> Tap several (5 if i remember correctly) times to Software Version -> dial *#0*# -> Sensor -> Scroll down to light sensor -> Click display -> It will show you the raw and lux values from sensor.
Now the problem is at s/w side, OS is not polling sensor readings while it is in always on display mode, so watch stays exactly at the same brightness level as it goes into the aod and since notifications keeps a screen lock that brightens the screen it enters aod with a bright screen. We should report this to the samsung for a fix probably.

Well I've found that if i close open screen menu (i mean for new notifications open gear's screen) when notification comes from samsung gear app, it doesnt happening. it stays in low light.

Did you change anything except that notification settings? I tried changing notification settings but it didn't make any difference. But flashing my watch did solve the problem or it seems so, so far. I was at R760XXU1APK6 firmware i flashed R760XXU1APK7 now. I don't know if it is fixed because of firmware difference or if it was caused by an application on the watch and flashing got rid of it. I'll update this post if it returns in any point.
Edit: I used the watch during the day today and it is back so it wasn't about firmware or apps after all. Now i regret flashing.

Adaptive brightness or sensor fault?

Hi, I have a problem, I have set adaptive brightness and now even when it's completely dark my phone is bright as lightbulb. When I switch adaptive brightness to off and manually set brightness it is going much lower.
Appa show 69 lux all style time, sensor fault?
Does anybody of you have similar problem ?
Either the sensor is bad or there's an obstruction. Are you using a screen protector? Some have poor clarity which really messes with the ambient light sensor.
It looks like there is some problem with sensor itself or os, as sometimes it stuck and show constant value for example 0 or 50 etc, restarts didn't help so I have contacted EE and today I will receive new phone as replacement.
