Video of Rom that turns your Note 5 into a fully-functional S7 Edge - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Di

I put this here as a conversation piece, and because I thought some of you T-mobile folk might either be waiting to buy an Edge 7, and use a Note 5 as your DD, or have an old one after you upgraded to an S7 Edge itself.
Either way, you probably would want to see this:

We had that on the Note 4 and Note 5. Nothing new. On the Note it's harder to slide the edge panels out, especially whrn you have the case on.

You can't actually turn a note 5 into an s7 edge, hate these type of videos

They DO convert your Note 5 software to the S7 Edge's software, tho. Just not the hardware itself.

These roms have their place. I used lots of them converted to work on my old Note 3 (Note 4, Galaxy S6, Note 5 etc). However, underneath it's obviously limited by the hardware of the older device. In particular the camera. Some features won't be supported, simply because the hardware is different. For example, I have read Always On Display on any device prior to the S7 can't be activated and the device be in deep sleep, which means the feature will have a far bigger battery hit. Not sure how accurate that is.

Nexus 5 or s5 ?

Hello Brothers,
i am just confused choosing right Mobile for me, is Nexus is slow than s5? if we dont look at Snap 801. i am not camera user,
but yea i like Music, one more Advantage of Nexus 5 is, its cheaper than s5, i can buy s5 but if nexus 5 is better to go for this year so what u say,
i dont like other models, i am just confused in btween Nexus 5 or S5 .
Thanks in Advance.
Im biased to modding and open source gnex5 ftw
[GNEX5] Running PURITY-ELEMENTALX
The S5 has a Wolfson WM5110 DAC, which is considered to be one of the best on the market, so if music is a priority then that might be something to consider. Nexus 5 still sounds good though, but pale in comparison to anything Wolfson equipped
As for how the rest of the specs stack up, check these links out:

The S5 looks to be the better phone on paper (and it should be for the price!), but I'd still take a Nexus 5 any day. In fact I was going to get a S5 after my Note 2, but it was just too big for me and I'm sick of all the Samsung gimmicks. Very happy with the Nexus 5 though
Might be worth your while checking them out in person, if there are any mobile phone shops local to you.
Im not sure why you think you'll get an answer to this question that is helpful.. Make your own mind up.
But yes, as mentioned Wolfson DAC is better than N5. Stick Viper4android on N5 though and the difference is negligible.
Regarding the Performance.
If you are comparing N5 vs Touchwiz S5...the performance would be much better on the Nexus 5.
If you are comparing with the GPE S5...well that will depend on the kernel.
I think the N5 with the Google AOSP kernel could perform a little better.
But who knows...both ROMs are so similar.
P.S.: I'm assuming there is an S5 GPE. I think I read something about it weeks ago...

Everyone here will say N5. Everyone in the S5 section will say S5. Lol
Research and weigh your needs, budget.... Etc..... no one here can know what you'll prefer.
S5's 801 processor is faster than the N5's 800, however the S5 will feel slower in normal usage due to Touchwiz.
You'll have to make up your own mind. But since u asked...Nexus5 ftw!

You say he's captain obvious but you've clearly neglected the fact that this thread actually exists, from which we can surmise that it wasn't actually obvious to the OP, ergo it needed to be said.

By specs galaxy s5 have to be faster, since it has the newer snapdragon 801 it is locked to a higher frequency than snapdragon 800 by default. Both has the same gpu, adreno 330. I know the gpu in nexus 5 is at 450 MHz. But MHz and newer hardware does not means that you will feel faster the galaxy s5 or the nexus 5 than the other device. The term "fast" can mean so many things. It could mean faster webbrowsing, boot up time, opening apps, doing tests with float numbers, camera shoots between pictures and etc. But speed does not rely on better hardware. Let's the android os is not well optimased on galaxy s5, or tne camera software, or the samsung browser, or the touchwiz framework. You would see the galaxy s5 slower than nexus 5, even if galaxy s5 has better hardware specs. In short, better hardware does not means that everything is faster.
In theory, if nexus 5 and galaxy s5 would have the most well optimased android os, drivers and softwares then galaxy s5 will be faster, but would you notice the fastness? No.
You said that you do not really care about tha camera. S5 has 13 MPixel camera and has no OIS, while N5 has a 8 Mpixel camera with OIS. Btw I think both devices makes really stunning photos.
I cant really speak about the sound quality on speaker, because I could not test in on S5, but I have heard that people are complaining about S5 speaker because it has a membrane which gives water restiance to the phone, but makes the sound more muffled compared to S4. Nexus 5 has just an ordenary speaker by sound quality. Since you listen to music I have to assume that you will use headphones more often instead of the speaker. I have to say that the sound quality through headphones on nexus 5 are impressing. I use a stock galaxy s4 mini headphones.
From music we get to storage.
Nexus 5 does not have sd card slots. It has 12 gb (16GB version) or 26 (?)(32 GB version), while galaxy s5 has sdcard slot supporting up to 128 GB sdcards. If you that kind of persone who stores all his/her music on the phone, then make chose 32Gb version of nexus5 or galaxy s5 with sdcard slot.
Move on to features.
Galaxy s5 has planty of features which nexus 5 does not have. Like fingure print scanner, multiwindow, pulse measure, air gestures and many others I could not remember.
Galaxy s5 has 2800 mAh battery while nexus 5 has 2300 mAh battery. I cant tell how long can a galaxy s5 survive a day with that extra 500mAh. For me my nexus 5 survives the whole day, from 8 am to evening 8 pm the goes between 20-30%. I normaly surfing on the web on 3G data and wathcing a few yt videos when there some Open wifi hotspots. Surfing the web on 3g or 2g are more power hungry than on wifi. I cant speak of LTE since my operator ask for extra money to allow me to connect to LTE network.
Battery usage depends what do you do on your phone and how well the OS is optimased.
Consider my following words about root and custom roms.
S5 has Knox, if you root or flash custom rom a warranty void flag will set from 0 to 1 which means you lost your warranty and samsung will not repair your phone under warranty even if your phone clearly have a hardware issue. That flag cannot be reseted when it gets changed.
About nexus 5. I am sure if you buy your n5 from any google playstore or from offical retails in EU you will not void your warranty even if you have root, custom android and unlocked bootloader. If you buy it from somewhere else I cant guarantee that your device will be fixed under warranty if you have custom android, root, and bl unlocked, but you can lock your bl anytime and reset that tamper flag anytime you want.
Bootloader can be unlocked easily on nexus 5 because it is meant to be like that, while for galaxy s5 samsung tries everything to make hard to unlock your bl.
About android update.
The reasone I chose nexus 5 is the fact that nexus devices are the firsts which gets an android update. it takes time for samsung to implement the new android os and port touchwiz to the newest android and if you bought your s5 from carrier then that can add some extra time for the upgrade because carriers have to implement their carrier apps to the newest android and etc. A carrier can also deny to upgrade their carrier devices to be updated. On the nexus side, carriers cannot add their apps or deny the update. There is no carrier variant nexus devices and allow them are sim unlocked.
Galaxy S5 has removeable back cover and battery while nexus 5 does not. Nexus 5 has support for wireless chagging while on s5 you have to buy the wireless charger backcover.
I dont really like the design of S5, the shiny fake chromed midframe, but I have to tell that it looks much better in real life than on pictures and the back cover has a nice soft material.
I like more the black nexus 5, it looks more serious and elegant for me, but this is my own opinion.
I advace you to try nexus 5 and galaxy s5 before you make your choice.

Note 4 or S6?

Hey all! I have owned the S6 for 4 months now and previously owned a Note 4 for 6 months.
I'm thinking to go back to the Note 4 and ditch the Note 5. What do you think?
Well, question for you is what size of display is better for you. Personally i switched from Note 4 to the S6 because Note was too big for my small hands. Also S6 has new touchwiz that is incredibly fast for me. It's like 50% faster than old version.
Note 4 has old fingerprint scanner. If you're thinking about Note 5 then you need to know about size. I was talking about this.

Size doesn't matter, the functionality and battery life does for me. I dont know if the 5.1.1 on the note 4 has the new touchwiz. But from the reviews I've read, note 4 seems more efficient than note 5

nexus 6p brighter whiter (better) screen than Gs7 edge.

i have both phone and been playing with them to see if i keep the gs7 edge. It is an amazing phone but one thing i notice and I'm very picky about it is the screen quality. Mostly the whites. I notice that my nexus 6p gets brighter and whiter than s7 edge both in max brighness. While reviews and people will declare Samsung galaxy to have the best screen without testing, i did some. Something that i have seen in the past is that gs5 & gs6 always had a lower end brighnes a whiter screen than its notes brother. Hands down note 5 still have the best screen right now and i believe the same will be for the galaxy note 6 line.
Not very good pics but someone who has both phone can do the same just to confirm this.
BOTH PHONE MAX BRIGHNESS.
Gs7 left & nexus 6p right
EDIT: if you see both side by side the galaxy s7 edge screen looks better because is using super amoled. is so attach to the screen that icons seen to be pupping out of the screen. not the same in the nexus 6p which is amoled and the screen seems way behind the glass. Also looking very closely at the nexus 6p icons i can see sharpness artifact while the galaxy s7 edge screen seems to be using some kind of filter to make icon look smooth without causing any blur to it. They both look has sharp.
I'm using mine in amoled cinema and it doesn't hold a candle to the 6P I had. Which setting did you have your S7E on when you compared?

stock setting which is adaptive. cinema make color more vibrant (punchier). basic and photo does make the screen look yellowish but i was not using those.
edit: you where right changing my color profile from adaptive to cinema make screen brighter and just has white but it add those punchy colors.
They're picking at anything now lol
:good:
Another thing to take into consideration is the bump in brightness that it may do in direct sunlight that goes beyond the max brightness setting. I'm inside right now at work so can't test to be sure but I remember my S6 would punch up the brightness in direct sunlight beyond what I could manually set it to, I think the S7E does the same. I don't remember the 6P being able to do that although I won't argue that for the price, I was impressed with the quality of the screen on the 6P.

6p is nowhere near as good: I have returned 4 of them due to pink screen hue and my current one still has it. Have to use a custom kernel to rid most of it.

In my thread regarding note4 amoled quality, i wrote to displaymate as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/note4-amoled-screen-quality-t2906365
imho, displaymate is a not very usable source, as they test the cherrypicked devices from samsung, they are NOT examining devices from the "open market"... there, 8 out of 10 devices at least have minor or major display errors, although most people wont see them because the lack of comparison!
Ohhhh please. If you try to bash on samsung than get your facts straight.
First of all, to your info Nexus 6P has also Super Amoled from Samsung(if you thought otherwise than you should read more). So there should be little to no difference at all.
S7 edge display is one generation newer since Nexus 6P has the same screen with note 4. Wich is a great screen also without a doubt.
But as the biggest producer and user of Amoled samsung does calibrate the screen in the best way. Better than google or anyone.
Per today S7 edge has the best screen used in a phone so far. Lets see what others will use in the future.
Samsung uses autobrightnes to give all the power in the screen thats because its unessecary to have it on full all the time and that would affect the battery.
So when needed there is no phone in the market with brighter screen.
Sorry for my bad english.
PS. I have both Nexus 6P and S7 Edge 935F. What you are saying is not true.

I'm a Nexus owner but thinking about selling and getting an S7 Edge.
The S7 hardware, screen and camera are definitely better (although both are good)
The only thing holding me back is the decision to go from Stock Android to Touchwiz. Don't know if I can take 2 email apps, multiple music players, etc. I can't stand bloat or the ugly menus in Touchwiz.

I didn't like Touchwiz back when I had an S3, I just used a Nova and have never looked back. Also Nova let's you hide apps you don't want to see which helps if there's multiple apps for the same function.
I use mine is Basic display mode as I want the closest to real life accurate as possible.
i wish there was a way to control the max brightness even when not in direct sunlight

S7 vs NOTE 5??

My nexus 5 just broke and I need a new phone asap.
Was contemplating b/w NOTE 5 and S7.
I realize that the S7 is superior in almost every way, including performance and battery life, but I personally like the bigger screen of the note 5, the s-pen and the overall aesthetics of it much better than the s7. Now, I don't know if I'll be using the pen very much, but it's one of those things that I might start doing if I have it. I definitely like styluses and personally use a windows surface myself. However, the NOTE 5 is a year old and the S7 just feels like the smarter/logical choice.
I was wondering if anyone who has upgraded from NOTE5 to s7 or has used both could provide some insight?
I personally don't care much for the expandable storage on the S7; I know some people are religious about removable battery and extra storage. So, this is not a big enough difference to decipher the two. I need to make a decision by the end of the day, so I'd appreciate some input.
Whatever I do buy, I plan to stick it for the next 3 years. My most important priorities are: battery life, multi-tasking capacity, and overall functionality/productivyt. Right now, both of these phones are so comparable, I simply can't make a decision. Note 5 is more attractive to me, but the S7 is functionally superior.
FYI...I need to get a phone ASAP, so I can't wait for the NOTE 6.
Thoughts?
for productivity i believe Note 5 Definitely has the big advantages for you, S7 superior in term of hardware specs, but that doesnt mean Note 5 rendered useless, i still thought that Note 5 still good to go for another 3 years, I'm still using my Note 3 and it still able to fullfill my productivity needs
hope that helps
Cheers~

Coming from the note 3 I had to make the same decision. Went with the S7 edge. The edge was annoying to me so I returned it for the regular s7. I was really concerned that the S7 smaller screen would bother me, I was wrong. I now feel like the S7 screen size is perfect. When I pickup my wife's note 3 I feel like I'm holding a piece of toast haha.
I don't miss the stylus at all and the s7 is lightning fast. It would be a dream phone if it was possible to root the Verizon variants. The only downside to me is that it's way easier to type on the note.
S7 gets my vote

This is my personal observation. I have owned every Note since the 2. I had the Note 5 for almost a year prior to upgrading to the Note 7. While the Note 7 was really a nice device (I have returned it and repurchased a Note 5 64GB Tmobile Version), I did notice the following differences:
1. The Note 7 I/O speed was much slower than the Note 5. I restored my device using SmartSwitch, so both devices had the same exact software installed.
2. The Note 7 had horrible lag using the Gear VR 2016 version, most apparent when streaming videos or graphic intensive games. I would always have to optimize memory before using the Gear VR, or the lag would be severe. The Note 5, is rock solid using Gear VR, with little to no lag(I am running stock Tmobile 6.01 ROM.)
3. While I do miss the curved screen on the Note 7, I couldn't find a screen protector that wouldn't stop peeling within two weeks after installing(The S7 Edge and previous edge devices were easier to apply screen protectors due to the larger radius of the edge). I couldn't find a glass screen protector that wasn't attached by just the edges(this is a horrible design that allows dust to get between the protector and the screen.) The Note 5 has many awesome Glass Screen Protectors.
4. I do miss the always on display on the Note 7, but I never used the Edge Display Stuff, just seemed like fluff that would take up valuable system memory. The curve did make the phone easier to hold without a case, but who does that?
5. I also miss the Grace UX, but not the combining notifications of the last Note 7 update(they should have included the option to turn off.)
6. Due Note(pun intended) that the Note 7 never really got the chance to run with a fully optimized ROM due to the obvious recall, but I felt like the Note 7 was hindered by the GPU/CPU, it should have been buttery smooth like the Note 5 when it was first launched, it felt more like the disaster that was the Note 4 when the 5.0.1 ROM was released(later corrected with 5.1.1 ROM.)
I am ultimately happy with the Note 5 for the next year, until they release the Note/Pro 8. I really don't feel the Curved Screen adds any value to the power user, and makes it more difficult to use the pen, and provides a difficult surface for screen protectors.
Hopefully with the note 7 recall we will begin to see some more development here on the note 5 again! It has been getting pretty quiet in here and im sure there is a lot more that can be done with this amazing device that we currently have!

Im willing to check this combo out. Do you have a link to the thread? Is it a TMO or INT ROM? Didnt see it in the development section when I checked. Let me know Id appreciate it.
@slayer21011 Their you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3327198

I purchased the TMO by pre-order and received it day one. I agree that there were memory problems with the Gear VR. My bigger problem was how fast the Note 7 heated up. This in turn caused calls to drop. 5 or 6 times a day. I returned it for a Note 5 the first day returns were allowed with TMO.
On the other hand, I loved the secure folder and being able to put apps, not just files or photos, into the folder. I hope someone comes out with a substitute for the Secure Folder using fingerprint. Perhaps Samsung will add it to the upcoming Nougat update for the TMO Note 5.
