For those who spend a lot of time looking at a computer, and can't be bothered to look at their phone very often, Sand Studio has introduced AirDroid, an app that allows users to control their Android Phone from a computer via WiFi.

The great thing about AirDroid is that it works - it's easy to start up, and functions flawlessly (in my experience). The interface is also very polished - mimicking a desktop launcher complete with moveable icons, a task bar, and controls that allow you to do just about anything.
One of the most impressive features is the ability to access SMS messages, manage them, and send messages right from a web browser. Users can also manage contacts, uninstall/backup apps (AirDroid will download your apps as apk files), browse files, access the Android Market, and manage music and ringtones, in addition to the ability to look at phone information from CPU status to battery level and beyond.
Best of all, AirDroid is completely free from the Android Market. With all the powerful features it offers, this app is certainly worth checking out.

edit: just installed the app..sometimes the app makes the phone go crazy!! i have to logout fro the browser or turn off wifi for the phone to become normal.
This is without a doubt 'the best' app for controlling your phone from your browser. I've installed and played with many and this one tops the lot in my opinion.
It's clean, easy to use, great interface (both on the phone and PC).
Side note: This thread would probably be much better off in General Android Apps and Themes forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=530. The app isn't specific an LG Optimus.

Anyone else used this? Am very tempted, but concerned of legitimacy of app (never heard of devs and truly paranoid about security )

I'm a little hesitant to try out apps like this as well but they have nothing but good feedback on the market and a good following on both Facebook and Google+, as well as having their own website, so I was happy to give it ago.
@smackdownn Yeah I am with you on the whatsapp, this app is brilliant.
@Nucleotide & SpyderTracks Seriously? Whats the issue with privacy? Scared these devs are going to email or sms your gf while you are out? Either that or learn to hide your porn somewhere that is not your phone. I have said this before on so many occasions, when you were using a nokia/winmo/other NON android phone, they sneakily NEVER asked for permissions, but you installed apps that could pretty much do anything on your phone anyway
This app is by far the best solution I have tried in this regard, it just works and damn well too
@Cornelha
Lol.... I get what you're saying, but I think it's a little naive... the information we hold on smartphones these days compared to "our old nokias" means security is vital. After years of dodgy torrents, malware and hacked accounts, I've learnt to take it a bit more seriously, albeit probably to the extreme

I agree. I don't have anything I would call "sensitive data" on my phone but I do have a lot of contact information such as names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and other information which although not really sensitive, I still don't want other people to have - especially if I don't know about it. Not only that but apps can track your location, the buttons you press on your phone, numbers dialed, text messages sent, websites you visited, and the list goes on.
With that in mind I take caution when installing any app. I check for things like the amount of reviews on the market, the quality of the reviews (good vs. bad), does the developer have a website, a Facebook page with a good following, and so on.
one of the best app i ever know
good job mate
slow files transfers but great app !
have been using it for about 2 days and I have to say it is great...downloading files takes a very long to though

I have been using Lazy Droid but after using this for couple of days, I have uninstalled Lazy Droid. Nice app. thanks
I love AirDroid!!! It helps me to transfer photos and files from my phone to my PC wirelessly. I don't need to carry my cable anywhere with me. It's a great app. Nice job!

Hello,
I am so angry and disappointed at the Android team, I am a huge fan of Android and I will stay that way ..
we were begging for years to the Android team to make Android more secure and I was hoping to see them do so in 4.2
instead Apple introduce an Amazing feature in iOS 6 which is privacy control where you can prevent any app from accessing you data,
WHAT THE HELL GOOGLE !
we need that feature more than they do, and I don't know for how long we will wait, I don't want to uninstall a nice game because it can access my contacts or for the "Fake" Anti virus softwares to catch these apps because of unnecessary permissions.
I am mad because I love Android, and because there are a lot of people who hate Android because they think it is full of malware .
please guys, don't tell me to install LBE or other software because if this feature is not coming from Google then its not worth it.
Thanks.

Ios users need it more as unlike android users they have less control over their system. We can see exactly what permissions are needed before installation and can always install a permissions manager so we can do that already so it makes sense for google to concentrate on improving the os overall.
But yes it would be a nice feature just not really the most important.

You mean ios users AND non-rooted android users (vast majority) need it more, right?
C'mon, google haven't implemented this yet cuz it slaps them right in the money, no personal info, no targettizing. They could improve an already impresive os with this feature, which is implemented already on some custom roms and 3rd party apps.

It could well be money minded however it could also be that if users stop specific permissions (gps, contact access etcetera) the app would fail when accessing that feature and cause people to naturally blame the os (after all not all users are tech savvy).
I agree it would be a good feature but I'm not sure there is a big need for it.
As I said we can see before installing an app and stop installation if we don't like a feature accessed by that app which ios users can't do so easily.

The whole point of Android, from Google's perspective, is to get your personal info. Don't forget, Apple's customer is YOU... Google's customers are their advertisers. Don't ever expect fine grained Blackberry or iOS-style privacy controls in Android; it will never happen.

Dude nobody cares. If I ask about privacy controls to any of my friends (iOS and Android and WP7/8), they just say "what's that?" or "you're such a nerd nobody cares"

No one gives a f*ck, until they give a f*ck.
Most people don't care, but for some that do care about all that personal information being broadcasted through the air, shouldn't there be an option? Remember when facebook, whatsapp and even gmail apps didn't use https to connect over wifi? Anyone with basic wifi knowledge could access ALL broadcasted information by sitting at a Starbucks. Depending on the app's permissions this was very compromising for the unsuspecting (if the app dialed home with your contact info and phone numbers, for example). But that's just one example besides the point.
The point is, would you share all that personal information with the first random person you see walking down the street? Well, if that person works for google, you might be doing so already.

What your on about, denying apps internet access to prevent leaking data publically, is good but that still would not stop apps you give permission to from leaking data and so someone could still intercept your data.
For total security from leaked data you would need to encrypt the data before it leaves your phone ideally but because of androids nature we do at least have choices, just not built in ones.
Yes it would be a nice option but it just isn't something most people want so there is no pressure on google to create it.

Howdy! I'll start off by introducing myself: I'm NA (or Moon, your choice), and yes I'm pretty dang new around here. For a long time now I've been lurking around without an account, and I figure it's about time I make one.
So I'm glad to be here and hope to get involved and contribute as much as I can to this community in the future.
But for now... Moonkik.
Foreword:
This kik mod has been my precious project for a few weeks now. Before this, I'd never done anything with Smali and barely any android programming to start with. However, I'm an avid kik user and familiar with Pikik and Ghostkik, so naturally I got curious and ended up taking apart Ghostkik and meddling around. During this experience, I stumbled upon the potential for my original features, listed below.
Last week however, I started feeling guilty for piggybacking off Ghostkik and finally started over from scratch. After adding back all my favorite features (and some of my own), I turned my attention to theming. I'll admit, I'm guilty of color coordinating this with my personal phone's background colors and keyboard colors, but nonetheless I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The theme isn't flawless yet but I'm still pretty proud.
Standard Mod Features:
-Fake camera
-"Delivered" verification prevention
-"Read" verification prevention
-"Is typing" disable
-Image forwarding prevention
-All emoticons
Original Features:
-Text Colors (only visible on my personal friends for now)
-Rainbow Text (must enable text colors too)
-Notification privacy options
- No user icon
- No user name
- No message content-Square Notification Option
-Easy Update Button
(More to come! )
Theme:
Dark Red
Tentatively Planned Future Updates:
- Custom text colors for each of your friends
- Multi-line notifications (can display long messages)
- Message history editing (iffy on this one. Could take a while)
- Message backup / restore (in case you need to log in to another device and want to be able to log back in to Moonkik and still have your messages)
And, yes, you can use this app side-by-side with stock kik.

====================================================
Welcome back! It's been quite a while since I first started out here! Things have changed very much for the better!
For starters, we're already up to Moonkik8 and a good number of the planned features have been added.
The catch is that some have been added to Moonkik and others have been added to... Matrik!
I've gotten the wonderful opportunity to head up their development now and I feel like that's where I'll be spending a large amount of my time in the future.
That being said, I'd like you to take notice that I'm only going to be releasing future updates when I just happen to have something to share, simply because the vast majority of my time is being focused on Matrik right now.
Be sure to check out #1matrik if you're interested.
Also, be warned, all mods made before early 2017 will have lost the ability to fake camera pictures, and unfortunately that includes Moonkik.
If you need anything, my PM is always open. <3

That's not necessarily a Moonkik issue, it's most likely some other factor. Perhaps a problem with your defaults? I only say this because my friend had the exact same problem with his stock kik.
I've had MoonKik installed for a while now but haven't had a chance to test it, but I finally got around to it this weekend. I find that the option to send gallery pictures from camera does show as camera in MoonKik but on the regular version of Kik it still shows gallery. Also, when I go into the Kik sites and search for some apps (like Chat Now) they do not show up, but they do show in the regular Kik.

Be sure to read the new update, the Fake Camera was patched by kik a while back. Unfortunately, all old versions of Kik now show "Gallery" when sending camera pics. Also, keep in mind that Moonkik is on an old update (like all other modded kiks), so some of the new features won't be compatible with it.

What exactly does camera spoofing do? Super-curious... ?
Yes. I feel like I explain this quite a lot, actually. This app is old. Some parts don't work because of Kik's patches. I haven't touched it in more than a year, and don't plan to ever again.
Hey guys,
I just placed an order on Amazon for the International S7 Edge version. I was looking on the xda forum and the Playstore for certain tweaks that will help with the transition from an iPhone 6 Plus to S7. I will admit it's this is overwhelming for me, it's like learning a whole new language.
These are the apps and tweaks that I mostly use on my iPhone. Can you tell me if there is anything similar to these.
- Cydia - All in one app for mods, tweaks, torrent client, etc.
- Protecti+ - Allows me to only show you want I want to show you when someone uses my phone. I can choose to hide apps, pictures, text messages, etc. I can use an command to bring everything back like hitting my home button three times.
- GV Mobile+ - I use this app if I am selling something on Craigslist and I don't want to give out my real phone number. I am able to use a different phone number for texting and calling by using my real number but it's masked with my fake number.
- AppCake - it's a pirated site for crack apps. Just an FYI, I do purchase all of my apps and tweaks through Cydia but I have learned my lesson to try it out before buying.
- TorrentBox - Just an app I use to download torrents.
For torrent Client - flud has no rival.
For torrent search - Use torrent search app from the playstore
For cydia - there are a lot of applets outlet on Android. Do your search when you get your phone.
Protecti+ - Use guest mode on Android or use security apps to hide whatever secret you've got. Your best bet here will be to use the guest mode.
To hide/mask a number, there are a lot of apps that do similar things on Android. You might want to root and discover new ways of doing that. Google search and you'll find virtually all the steps needed to do whatever you want to do to your phone. Make google your friend.

I'm not sure about Pay, but fingerprint will definitely work. Moreover, there is a private mode by default which hides gallery, music, voice recorder and files. If this isn't enough, you can easily find new apps on the play store. Most of them have free versions, so you don't have to buy (at least at first).
If you do root your device, you can install xposed and get almost all the network & location spoofing done. I haven't personally needed an app like GV Mobile+, so I'm not sure about it.

Thanks, I'll check out xposed for location spoofing.
Google Voice is great if you don't want to give out your real phone number. You can make calls using a Google number which will call you to your real phone number then once you pick up it will then call the number your trying to call so it only shows that Google phone number not your real number.
I'll checkout Guess Mode. I only hide personal apps like my back account, settings, shopping apps or anything someone can go in and make changes.
Just going through these post on here is crazy. So much to learn. I just hope the auto correct and multi tasking is great on the Samsung. Right now my phone reboots 8 times a day when I
Multitask with my iPhone 6 Plus.
For Cydia equivalent, use Xposed, it works almost the same but you don't need to add source like cydia does.
I don't think we have any AppCake equivalent source/module, but most of the Xposed module came free with a complete feature.
for Torrent, uTorrent on the playstore would do the trick, no need to root, just install it.

Thanks, so xposed is not a location spoofing app but more like a Cydia, gotcha. I am familiar with uTorrent on my PC so that would work.
I don't think I need to root my phone. I am not trying to change the color my my keyboard or make changes to my layout. I just like certain tweaks like different multi-tasking options, hiding apps, location spoofing for apps and much more.

Thanks,
Do you need to root your phone to load xposed and use tweaks?
Having used appcake I don't think xposed is really equivalent at all. Xposed will give you more control over our os and installing mods. You'd probably want something like blackmart or apptoid which are more similar to appcake. You can find these apks by doing a Google search. Once you download an apk it installs like a normal app. Doing this is called side loading and you have to go into your security settings and check allow from unknown sources.

Yes you need root. You will want to unlock your boot loader and install a custom recovery first thing. They're some great guides on here on how to do that.
Keep in mind, once you root, you'll never get to use Samsung pay, which does work on international devices. Where are you located?

Yes. Looks like you've learnt a lot already! And yes, in iPhone terms, xposed is like Cydia
Keyboard, I'll either suggest the Google Keyboard or Switkey. Both are free, so you can try them. Swiftkey has a special mode for the edge screen which is kinda helpful for me, so keys don't overflow to the edges of the screen. And it learns your typing patterns damn well including where you press for each key.
As for multi-tasking, its quite epic with the 4GB of ram. You should be able to do all your work. No reboots at all here!
I hope you have the International variant! Because it has a lot more support and is easily unlockable / rootable. If you do root though, you trip a security switch called Knox. This will harm your validity, which is why Samsung Pay would mostly likely not work (people might find a way around it). But in normal day usage, rooting has no effect whatsoever.
If your banking apps can see that you've rooted and refuse to work, there are modules in Xposed that can help you hide it. So its a negligible.
Anything else?
Thanks guys,
I will mess with the phone this weekend and see what I can come up with. I know it's going to be a learning curve for me but I am sure in the end it will be worth it. If not then I always have my jailbroken iPhone I can use.
Appcake on iOs, Blackmarket on Android. I can get any latest version apps(from the other country) when it still not available for my country. On Appcake you cant update your apps, need to reinstall it (cmiiw)

And then a handful of people in here goes on to tell you to root and install Xposed. Right. I would NOT root or do any heavy modifications to the device at first. You're coming from an iPhone and Android is completely new to you, so I would recommend you to get to know Android first, and then after a month or so when you've learned how to properly use the thing, then start looking for alternative apps, services, mods etc. Don't look at a product you haven't touched yet and ask your self "how can I improve this?", when you don't know what to even improve.
People around here will, of course, tell you to root, tweak the battery and launch it on a rocket to mars. Don't listen to them. You are however interested in some alternative apps to the one's you used on your iPhone.
- Cydia = Xposed, but the latter is much more powerful, and thus much more dangerous. It's a fun app to use, but it requires root, which will void your warranty, and Samsung Pay will be long gone. It'll trigger KNOX, and your phone will forever be marked as modified. You won't be able to make it completely stock again. Ever. So I would hold off with root and Xposed for now.
- Protecti+ = Private Mode, which you can find in the drop down notification center. You can toggle it on and off there, and you can set photo albums, files etc. to private, and the files will only be visible when you tap the Private Mode-toggle, access it with your fingerprint, and then all the files will be visible in the Gallery, file explorer and so on. When you want to hide it again, just exit Private Mode by tapping the Private Mode-toogle again.
- GV Mobile+ = No idea, but it's a Google Voice number, so I guess there's a solution out there. I don't use it myself, so I don't really have an overview over what's going on in that area.
- AppCake = Piracy is something that is really easy to do on Android, and it's a serious problem for the devs, so please don't do it. The Google Play Store has a refund function, which means that if you buy an app and you're not happy with it, then just tap "Refund". Voila. That's it. You can use the refund-button for about 2 hours after you've bought the app (or more), but you can easily get a refund after a month to if you really want to. The point here is that there's no reason to pirate any app. Pirating an app is also risky, since the APK can be modified with malware and so on. This is literally how malware spreads on Android. Cheap people who can't spend a buck.
- TorrentBox = Flud. Simple as that. It looks great, and it works great.
Again, just use your S7 Edge! Just use it and get used to Android. Are you bothered by something? Alright, it can probably be tweaked. Don't like the default messaging app? Okay, so just install a different one. Don't like the browser? Install a different one. Don't like the look of things? Download a theme or two from the Theme Store. You have no reason to root right now. At all. If you do, I'm sure we'll read a Q&A thread from you soon where something has gone horribly wrong, and you have no idea what to do, since you have no idea how things work
J.biden is 100% right get used to s7 edge before you start playing with tweaks and root.
Once you root you can never go back to complete original firmware as out of the box and you will void warranty. To some including myself that doesn't matter but many it does especially those new to android.
Don't rush it just tske your time.

Well put JBiden??
I wasn't planing on rooting the phone at first. I need to learn how to switch between apps, learn the settings and learn how to use other functions.
With my iPhone I don't even use custom themes. I just like Protecti+, Intube, Flex2, and TypeStatus.
I only use AppCake to try out paid apps and if it's something I like and does what they claim then I will delete the app and pay for it. But honestly I don't buy that many apps at the App Store because everything I need is free but I do but a bunch of tweaks and apps from Cydia. I just hate it when developers don't update their tweaks.
Can I download custom app switchers / Multi-Tasking tweaks?
Is there Visual voicemail on the International S7 Edge?

One biggest thing that I am still trying to find a good resolution to is group mms messaging and with pictures video mail. Imessage was great and reliable and didn't compress images and videos.
U should shut off imessage and FaceTime on your iPhone a few days prior to porting that number over to Android.
I also had an issue that if people sent me a text to a thread that was when I had imessage enabled, it didn't go through. I needed to have my family erase and start brand new text messages to me in order to receive them.
I am not sure if any of the 3rd party SMS apps out there work better with group messages, picture mail and videos. I think either one u use, your carrier will compress the file.
Hangouts and whatsapp is only good if everyone installs.

Typestutus was cool tweak but not something available off imessage platform.
There is also an ad blocker for Samsung browser on playstore that works pretty good.
I miss youtube+ on iPhone as that blocked ads and allowed u to fast forward or rewind ten seconds with a push of a button.
I haven't found a good YouTube replacement on my s7 edge yet that.
I would suggest fooling around with default apps prior to installing 3rd party ones. I used android allot in 2012 and I had a replacement app for all default ones. Coming back to Android especially with Samsung there r big improvements.
I am.currently using the default keyboard and touchwiz. U have all those themes u can download to theme keyboard as well as touchwiz. Touchwiz has many options but.if u still feel that's not enough nova launcher is all I hear about when reading.
I used to love the tweak on iph

Iphone where u could slide cursor by sliding on keyboard. There is an option with the default keyboard to do that which was surprising.
Amazed how many options default KB has.

Thanks for this. I was trying to figure out how to move my curser using the keys on the keyboard. This helps out a lot.
The only thing I am struggling with is finding a way to hide selected apps with a gesture. I have been looking at a bunch of guest mode and privacy apps at the App Store but I don't like them. I also can't find a activator to enable and disable an app.
How can I hide apps and where can o get an activator?
Thanks.
So I'm trying to get my mom into the smartphone world. She's older, rates a negative value on "tech savvy" scale. I've bought a Samsung on5 for this project. What is the best method to setup a phone in "mom mode"?
Ideally phone calls and video calls... No texting (one step at a time)
I'm trying to make it as few screens or icons as possible to avoid confusion. I know you can do contact shortcuts for calling. But I've never wanted or needed to setup super extreme easy grandma mode before so I'm out of my element.
Any advise would be appreciated.

If you had bought a Xaomi device, some versions of MIUI comes with a " child mode" which could've been useful in your case
But what you can do is uninstall any useless bloatware. Then temporarily freeze/hide any app that you don't want her using yet. Just leave the basics like the dialer and such.
Place them all on a single homescreen then lock the desktop (Nova & Go Launcher both offer this function). That way she can always find what she's looking for and her icons won't get deleted or misplaced accidentally.
Also, you could hide the app drawer as well (or just remove the app drawer icon from the home screen). That way she'll only have access to the apps you've placed on the single homescreen. There's also the issue of her accidentally messing up/accessing some settings from the QS panel.
But that's something I'll speak on only if it's a concern to you.
Doesn't samsung devices have easy mode? A quick google brought me this.
Hope I can help u out in this issue
MINIMIZE:
Start the process by reducing the complexity. Uninstall apps that your mom is gonna never use. Have the right no. of homescreens with the absolutely necessary apps and widgets set up.
LAUNCHER:
Wiser and Necta are two launchers perfectly suiting your need. They both provide large and simple icons in a clutter-free environment for easy access.
BACKUP:
Right from contacts to images and files on your phone needs to be backed up. Dont ever live with the fear of losing your data.
SETTINGS:
Rest of the changes lie in the Settings app.
Simple Pattern lock
Disable all Auto-Correct options
Choose the desired font size
And others too...
And there u have...'A MOM-FRIENDLY PHONE':good:
HIT THANKS IF IT HELPED

Yep. They have. Samsung Devices (including ON 5) have an 'easy mode' in settings app to greatly simplify its use. Xiaomi devices have 'Lite mode' for the same purpose.
I bought the on5 because it was cheap and since it's experiment I didn't want to go crazy. She only uses the phone for calls... No text.. Basically I wanted a way to video call... One of the big problems is except for me and my daughter who have android phones, the rest of the family are iPhone users.. So will have to use duo for video calls.
The rom I installed is pre rooted with pixel launcher and a bunch of cool stuff.... It's actually impressive considering the phones limited power. Useless for this particular instance.
I'll try and set it up and see how the mom experiment goes. Hopefully she won't get overwhelmed.
I sincerely appreciate all the replies! Thank you guys for taking the time.
If any one else has additional details or advice, keep it coming. Thanks again.

Since those 'cool stuff' find no place in this instance you can try flashing AOSP rom. This reduces the complexity of the Samsung's UI.
WhatsApp, FB Messenger, IMO, Skype, Google Hangouts are other options to consider for making video calls between iOS and Android
get a samsung and use the easy home launcher built in to samsung phone..
Samsung phones have easy mode. You can try that.
