What is it hardware or software that limits the capacity for the external sd card in the Note 3's to 64gb ? And is there anyway to change that to 128gb or more ?

Hi
I was just wondering if anyone has ever used a 4gb SD Micro card (with adapter ofcourse) on their Xda 2 and if so, is it fully compatible?
I was gonna go for the normal 4gb SD card but then that won't be compatible with the newer Xda's should I decide to upgrade since they all take the Sd Micro's..
Cheers,
Riz.
not sure about the 4gb version but i have kingston 2gb micro with a sd adaptor and that works like a charm
Hi
I´m currently using a SanDisk ultra II 4gb and it works ok. I have qtek2020 with wm5

There is a difference between 4GB Sd and 4GB Micro SD Card.
The Micro SD > 2GB is only available as SDHC card, and that is not
(yet) supported by HTC
Our apologies regarding the FAQ, it is currently incorrect and the department who is in charge of the website has been informed.
The FAQ should state that we support up to 4GB with SD cards and 2GB with Mini and Micro-SD. We do not currently support SDHC/2.0 and as such we could not say as to whether these formats would work correctly with your device.
So as to repeat your question on capacity briefly, your HTC P3300 is supported for use with up to a 2GB Micro-SD card.

just curious
afaik, no one sells microSDXC yet and no hardware sets support SDXC yet.
i still have a hermes and original rom didn't support SDHC... but custom ROM sw upgrade did the trick.
will it be the same for current generation of phones whether WP7, DROID and any phone? will current gen. be able upgrade from SDHC->SDXC?
any1? SDHC is still 32GB max. i'm out of room already
Unlike SD > SDHC, SDXC is a hardware spec. It's not possible for a custom ROM to implement SDXC unless the hardware supports it.
Yep.As Marty did well to say, there is no software trick to make SDXC to work.If you want more space than 32gigs,then you have two choices:
1)The 64gb version of the iPhone, and that's only if you want to fill your space with music, video and pictures or
2)With Android, get a Samsung device. Most come out with 16gigs of space(there are 32gb versions of some) and have a microSD slot for up to 32gigs more, totalling at about 45gigs(You can't use the whole space of the internal memory, some is reserved from the system).More than enough I think, and it can store any kind of file.
The choice is yours.

I understood that the hardware specification has remained unchanged, but the card is formatted as exFAT on SDXC rather than FAT32 on SDHC.
The simplified specification implies this too, although I am not 100% sure.
https://www.sdcard.org/developers/t...ified_Specification_Ver_3.01_Final_100518.pdf
The relevant bits seem to be "Card Initialization and Identification Flow", which only checks for SD 2.0 (HC) for initialisation purposes, and the following text, which mentions Physical Layer 2 in conjunction with SDXC but is a bit more ambiguous:
Card Capacity Classification
In terms of card capacity, three types of SD Memory Cards are defined:
• Standard Capacity SD Memory Card (SDSC) supports capacity up to and including 2 G bytes (231 bytes). All versions of the Physical Layer Specifications define the Standard Capacity SD Memory Card.
• High Capacity SD Memory Card (SDHC) supports capacity more than 2 G bytes (231 bytes) up to 32G bytes and is defined from the Physical Layer Specification Version 2.00.
• Extended Capacity SD Memory Card (SDXC) supports more than 32 G bytes (235 bytes) up to 2TB.
Only hosts that are compliant to the Physical Layer Specification Version 2.00 or later and the File System Specification Ver2.00 or higher can access High Capacity SD Memory Cards and Extended Capacity SD Memory Cards. Other hosts fail to initialize High Capacity SD Memory Cards and Extended Capacity SD Memory Cards.
Only hosts that are compliant to the Physical Layer Specification Version 3.00 or higher and the File System Specification Ver3.00 or later (exFAT supported) can access Extended Capacity SD Memory
I am in the same boat needing 50GB for MP3's. I will be waiting until an Android phone supports SDXC to buy a new device.
There is no such animal as 64GB iPhone yet, perhaps within the next 30 days?
Any Android music app I've tried, you can not have your music library span two drives. So on a Samsung Galaxy you either choose the 16GB internal storage or the 32GB removable card - not both at once.
I think the spec says it has built in 16gb storage but I see my G2x shows only 5.77gb. Am I missing something?
i thought the specs said 8gb internal with expandable SD card

There is 8GB of storage built in. It is partitioned to allow space for the Android OS, with the remaining memory for storage. The device memory itself can be expanded by a 32GB micro sdhc memory card, but the phone does not come shipped with one, so you would have to purchase it.
Yea 8gb internal and supports up to a 32gb using an expandable SD card slot.
Hello,
I have a dumb question.
What is the difference between the 16 and 32 GB versions (besides the obvious)?
Is this the amount of internal storage on the device? Or is it the maximum total amount? I thought I read somewhere that the number represents the amount you can upgrade to, not the amount onboard?
Thanks!
J
Just that one has 16gb internal storage and one has 32gb.

Thank you!!!
So both of them also use an external flash memory card? What is the maximum size (Mb) the external card can be?

32 GB is about the largest micro SD you can find. So that is the limit of what you can ad to the tablet itself. But the dock has a SD card so you can add another 32+ that way. And the dock has 2 USB ports where you could plug in a hard drive for TBs more storage.

wow so if you get the 32 GB version you can have:
32 Gb (built-in) + 32 Gb (tablet) + 32 Gb (dock) = 96 Gb
the next thing i will be getting is an external solid state drive for the USB ports
I have a 32 gig class 10 patriot in my 32 gigger Nothing in my dock yet!
Anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the internal storage? 16GB is probably enough for me, but I was just wondering. With a bit of luck it would just require opening up the case and replacing an internal SD card. Has anyone opened one up yet?

32GB (built-in) + 32GB (microSD) + 64GB (SD) = 128GB
But remember, you can only save apps to the internal memory.

Way more than that. You always connect external hard drives to the USB ports! Terabytes of stored for your TF!
One thing to note is that the 32gb models seem to have less quality issues than the original batch of 16gb units. But that is probably just due to 2nd and 3rd run build improvements. My 32gb doesn't seem to have many of the physical issues that many people are talking about.
What about 64gb sdhc

I would be shocked if its like the Win Phones where its just a micro SD card in there. Likely its soldered to the board because its going to be high speed NAND flash as its used for the OS and Application.
That is one of the reasons, I would bet, that the 32gb is $100 more than a $32 gig card you can get on Newegg. Its not just a Kingston memory card, its likely NAND on die. Now, whether or not you need that much high speed memory is up to you.
That is why I opted for the 16gig, I will probably only have a couple of gigs of apps, but the 4 gigs of music I have on it and then most of the pictures/video etc I would put on the SD card for easy swapping out of content.
If it really is the case that the 32gig is having fewer issues than the 16 and my 16 has a defect then I would upgrade just for that purpose.

Sure it is - any over 4GB SD is SDHC.
But I guess SDXC is being meant?

I just got a 16GB from the latest Best Buy run. They must be improved too, because I notice none of the minor issues some reviews complained about early on, like chassis flex.
About sixteen.
And then the world changed:
http://gizmodo.com/5805482/the-worlds-first-64gb-microsd
Now it's:
32GB (internal) + 64GB microSD + 64GB SDHC= 160GB Total
P.S. I have a 16GB and have none of the issues so far (knocks on wood).
I'm pretty sure that 64GB microSD wouldn't work in the trsnsformer as its SDXC not SDHC. That and probabaly won't see it in stores too soon.
Hi there!
Is the Xperia Tipo compatible with 64GB Sd Cards?
Officially there will be just Cards up to 32GB supported, but in other devices with the same note 64 GB Cards work.
Has anybody ever tried?
memory card will work and show 64 gigs capacity but your phone may slowdown due to increased time in media scanning.
