Verizon Expects Galaxy S5 to have Marshmallow this month. (April) - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

I have chatted with Verizon asking when the S5 going to have Marshmallow. Well, this morning I asked then they said it is possibly coming out this month. They said "We do not have the resources to tell a date but we expect I to be released sometime this month." Who can't wait until the update rolls out. Leave in the comments your date for the release. I would post a picture but this is my first post

I expect it to be released 4/16

Sorry man.
Try Eclipse or FreedomROM

There's an old saying, "If a Verizon rep claims something in a forest, and no one is around to hear them, is it still incorrect?"
It's been my experience that if you get told anything by 1 rep, 4 are waiting in the wings to completely discredit the other. If you can get 5 out of 5 reps to claim something then, maybe, only maybe 50/50, it's correct.

I've had verizon for over 10 years... when they say it'll be out, it'll be out either a year after they say or never

No, right now the only way to root M is to modify the bootloader, not possible on BL locked devices which is the case for 11s last I checked.

Does this mean that one may be coming to ATT S4 soon?

Haven't heard of any OTA that doesn't remove root hahaha, none the less you can still reroot with motochopper, it's just a performance update, not security.
I thought we not should do any updates until the bootloader is unlocked since it may change the unlocking parameters. My concern is we have to watch out that we don't update and lose the unlocking capability.

4.4.2 downgrade to 4.1.2 - Possible?

Hello everyone,
I have a SCH-I535 running 4.4.2 that I bricked last night after running ez-unlocker (attempting to modify the bootload) and just got it back to work after using a debrick image... I would like to know if it is possible to downgrade back to JB 4.1.2? and if so how will accomplish this since it is not letting me bypass the odin process due to a recovery failed error...
Thank you very much!

Wait a week or so. I had an idea the other day and we are just now trying to put it to the test. It may unlock the bootloader, who knows! The method works on Motorola phones with the Qualcomm msm8960 chips. And guess what. The s3 has the same chip. And the exploit was directed towards that chip.

That link has been posted in these forums before. That downgrade only works on the i9300 international version, not the i535 Verizon version. The screenshot in the article you linked even shows the about phone as the i9300. This article you linked is from 8 months ago. If this worked on the Verizon version it would have been all over these forums. The article you linked even mentions how trying this process resulted in hard bricks on the AT&T version. Anyone trying this on the Verizon version will suffer the same fate.

11/10, that way my Nexus devices will be up to date while I ignore them for Fallout 4.
My guess is Thanksgiving. Keep us distracted with phone issues or turkey... One way or another we will pass out from the process...
4 weeks from when it is first available on a nexus device.

Beauty of an unlockable bootloader ... Return to stock, get OTA. Only potential "issue" is that TWRP/root for M may take a bit (not sure on that though as I'm no dev)

Wait for one of the great devs to post a stock-rooted flashable ROM.

Absolutely! :good:
While I'm very excited for Marshmellow, as others have stated, I don'y think we will have to wait for the official rom to drop. There will be some awesome devs that port it to out devise from the Nexus devises long before it's officially available.
My guess you have to be pretty quick after release because unlike in previous years we no longer have to wait for carriers to approve the updates
3 weeks from code release...Based on how the lollipop rollout went for the 2014 Moto X. I do want to mention that this "update to marshmellow" we are all guessing will be within the month of Oct. will most likely be only a soak test.

If it's anything like my Moto G 2nd gen I ain't even got LP 5.1.1. Moto updates are just as bad as ever

Verizon 5.1.1 Root??

Sorry, but I have searched, and can't find a direct answer, is 5.1.1 rooted for Verizon?
Where can I find the guide if it is.
Currently I am rooted on 5.02, have been delaying any OTA since purchase, rooted using Ping Pong
Thanks in advance
Anxiously awaiting this myself...I do know that Verizon locked the bootloader on or before 5.1.1 and as far as I know there is no root...yet.
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
It does not exist. Not even the top rom makers and programers have been able to do it. The 5.1.1 update will also make it so you can't go backwards to 5.0.2. This is the first time since I've owned cell phones that I've seen a company finally beat the cell phone gurus but they finally did it on this one. However if you are not on Verizon or AT&T you can still do it through ODIN.
So if you have a phone pre 5.1.1 that rootable and root it...will you be able to flash 5.1.1?

It will not be released ever. That has been said a few times. It uses(from what I have heard) a Zero Day exploit, meaning it's very damn complicated, and it has a high chance of bricking people's phones. That was never meant to go to the general public. It was aimed at other devs. It's a proof of concept, meaning it CAN be unlocked, just not through that way.

0 day exploits are OS vulnerabilities that the manufacturer themselves aren't aware of. It doesn't necessarily mean that exploit itself has a high chance of bricking the phone.
Not releasing the method could be any number if things. These reasons could range from stolen proprietary source code being used to the exploit's author deciding that he doesn't feel like sharing the method.
I heard that the team that found the method said that they would NOT release it at the moment but that in the future it will be available.

I know that it may not have a high chance of bricking the device, but with the device, I assume it is thanks to shenanigans with Verizon and Knox. I have already discussed legal issues briefly in the s4 bootloader thread... Damn Money Sucking Lawyers. It is what it is. I think it has given some people hope because there IS A WAY... Just maybe not that way.
