Note 5 T-Mobile overheats with Gear VR? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note5

I'm in love with the Gear VR so far, but my note 5 overheats pretty fast (under 15 minutes) no matter what Rom/kernel I use, and even on stock the same way. Could it be the T-mobile variant of this phone, and its processor at fault? How long can you guys use your phone with the Gear VR? (on Amazon, people say they can watch a 2 hour movie easily, without the overheat warning).

The first time I used VR, it overheated. After a couple updates, it hasn't done it at all.

Probably a dumb comment, but are you leaving off the black cover? If not, I would use the Gear VR without it. It just holds in heat.

10+ heavy use Android?

It's there another smartphone that battery hold 10+ on heavy use on AT&T? Like Verizon Droid Max?

10 hours is nothing, if your a heavy user i would look at extended batteries, Right now ZeroLemon is a power house they can a Samsung Galaxy S3 or Note 2 last 4-6 days, pretty crazy right
It really depends on what you define as "heavy use". If you are truly using it all the time, even an extended battery is only going to last 8-12-ish hours of screen on time for the S3. I'd take a look at what you're really using now, how much the screen is actually on, and go from there.

Only bad thing about extended battery is making the phone bigger and heavier...

Does the quick charge feature make up for poor battery life?

Simple question guys.

Thanks for your quick answer. I'm currently using a iPhone 6 plus, thinking of a change.

I'm a pretty light user and can get 36+ hours (more realistically closer to 48+) on a charge, so I get the best of both worlds
I am using the phone a fair bit can usually get more than 12 hours use

Impact on Battery Life with Quickcharge
I have not experienced any Battery Problems jet and i'm charging it every night and my Battery is fine.
quick charger is in the box still. I use what was a Blackberry tablet charger 1.8A with fixed 6ft MicroUSB cable attached. I charge every night and after the first couple days where I was using it constantly I've made it every day without having to charge up. 15-16 hours with more to go before hitting the sack. I always charge when sleeping.

I know a lot of people are getting below average battery life but in my case I'm very impressed with the battery life. I had my first S6 which was decent in battery life for a month, then I switched to the LG G4 for a couple of weeks and now I'm back on the S6. Battery life has really impressed me granted I'm rooted and running a custom rom.

Running rooted stock on ATT, Google Now and location history off, location set to GPS only, I typically get 16-18 hours off charger with 3.5-4 hours screen on. Mostly Facebook/browsing/forums/g+. No gaming.
just as 1st reply...
yes
I'm getting a minimum of 5 Hours screen on time over 48 hour period and around 5.5 to 6 over 24 hours. Quickcharge just means I won't be caught short if i'm using GPS a lot.
I am still testing differences between regular Samsung charger and the quick one ... And for now I think if you charge your phone over night with the regular Samsung charger it gets a bit better ... But I still need more time to come to dome conclusive answers ...

For me it seems to as I don't think there's any problem with the battery on my S6. I always have portable battery packs with me, but I LOVE the rapid charger, it's one of my favourite features. I love getting up seeing my phone at like 15% because I forgot to charge it and thinking crap have to go to work in 20 mins, and being able to plug it in and have it be at like 50% in such a short time period. I find it good enough that it's the only charger I use and make sure I don't lose it!

Gear S2 and Galaxy S7 Edge DRASTICALLY Draining battery

I've had my Gear S2 since October, (the sport model), and originally paired it with my Galaxy S6 Edge up until a few weeks ago when I received my S7 Edge. I used to get EXCELLENT full day battery life, like 10+ hours with like 30% left by the end of the day. Long-story short, incredible battery life. But every since I paired it with my new S7, not only does it drain the battery faster, but almost at unrealistic speeds. I'm talking 2 hours max and the battery on the watch is at 30%. I haven't changed anything but pair it with my S7 Edge. I can't imagine what would be causing it, or even how to run a diagnostic to be able and see, but I can't wear my Gear S2 out anymore because its just absolutely killed the battery. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Have you tried factory resetting and repairing with the S7 edge? Could be a Rogue app or something.

[GALAXY S6] Battery goes fast down at 30%

My s6 is now just 1 year old and suddenly the battery goes very quick down when it hits about 35%. Maybe within 10 minutes it drains to 15%. Then when i plugin the original charger it goes back up to 34%.
This problem is now for about 2 weeks or so. Running on the original latest software.
Anybody else has got this problem before?

if you do get a new battery then turn off fast charging to make your battery last longer. fast charging is not good for the battery and phone. to much heat and tear and wear,
can go to local Samsung store to get genuine battery...
these cheap mobile shop have cheap battery made by 3rd party maybe made by Chinese company.

I am not even sure that you can get S7 Edge battery from Samsung directly, at least I did not find such option. I've gotten mine from a reputable Bulgarian mobile shop, and it was about 20 euro with the delivery.
You can. If you go samsung official service center. They order for you oem battary. I was working there 3 years.
Yeah a friend of mine has his own mobile shop, he buys original batteries from samsung itself.. samsung does deliver original parts to other repair stores.

How is you battery life after Tizen 3 finally ?

Hi
I am considering swapping my Pebble Time to Gear S3.
I am concerned about battery life ( which is 8-9 days with Pebble ). I read that after Tizen 3 S3 battery got worse.
How is it finally ? I do not care about fitness apps or GPS. Mainly I will use S3 as extension for notifications from phone.
I'm a "moderate" users. I use it mostly as a watch, and to check notifications during the day.
probably check the time around 10 times a day, 10-25 email/text/phone call notifications per day.
At the end of the day I typically have 70-72% battery life remaining. I use a mostly black background,
white numbers for the clock.
Tizen 3 will give you 2 days of usage maybe less, used to be 4 days before the update. It is also laggy.
My advice is to wait Gear S4, it is around the corner with better battery, bluetooth 5 and overall hardware.

battery it is draining abnormally fast for me. i get only up to 10 hours just wearing it, usually less. battery stats showing s-health using 60-70% battery even with no heart rate monitoring or workout detection. it is crazy, doesn't samsung test their products any more? tizen 2.* was really good, i got at least 2-3 days out of it easily with all the bells and whistles going on but after 3.* it has been pure misery and seems to be getting worse.

The "problem" I have with the 4, based on "leaks" is they are said to be incorporating a "larger" battery into the wrist strap. IF that ends up being the case, I will probably pass on the Gear 4 because I don't like the "buckle" type resin wrist straps. I prefer the all metal one piece wrist straps.
Maybe they will make two versions. One with the removable/replaceable strap, standard battery, and one with the non removable strap, extended battery.
