Change Device Name - Asus Transformer TF700

... as seen from a Windows PC. Helping a mate service a bunch and it's tough knowing which employee owns which. They're running Zombi-Pop 5.1.1.
Would post this in the Zombi-Pop sub, but I can't seem to.

IF you only had one connected - there - at times - can be several. I don't understand why this is so difficult.?

Because reach device supplies it's name to Windows. The renaming should be done on each device itself.
When you have multiple devices connected, it shows all the devices, and the serials should allow you to tell them apart.

[Q] Kindle Fire demo model

I bought a Kindle Fire off Craigslist and got home and realized I had been had and was sold a demonstration model. I'm hoping by rooting the Kindle I can possibly reverse this. I followed all the instructions in death2all110's thread but the first step I can not perform because when I try to go into settings I get a message saying "demonstration device this feature is not available" This is the step that allows you to sideload. Is there another way that I can sideload? Even if I am able to sideload, do you think this will fix my problem? Please help.
Anybody able to help me out with this?
Should I be posting this somewhere else?
Perhaps you should try posting it on death2all110's thread.

I can't post there until I've had 10 post.
Some threads require you to have a certain minimum number of posts on xda before you can post. It is to keep the content of such threats free from spam.
As far as I know, side loading is the only way..... I wish you luck in your search though!
Yeah I think sideloading is the only way but is there another way to sideload?
Hmm, probably can force install it threw command prompt or try allowing unknown sources threw it.

Thanks. I'll try that.
Nothings working. Help! Help!
Techno,
The demo model will not let me go into settings and allow unknown apps to be installed. When I tap on that it says "demo device, demonstration only" Any other way?
I found something for you! I think it will work!

Just need to figure out how to get it on you fire, since it does not have market, I am working on that part.
Yeah if I can get that app on my Fire it may work.
Any other options for sideloading?
any success in removing the demo I am looking for detailed instructions and cant find it anywhere !!!!!!

I also have a Kindle Fire 8.9" Demo unit I just purchased but, have not received yet.
I am guessing that the unit will not allow ADB debugging to be turned on and is not turned on by default.
As a result, I am confused how any of the posts describing how to load TWRP and other reloads will work.
Thus, if ADB debug is not on and cannot be turned on, how is the Demo unit not a brick with a working display?
Does anyone have a description of how to load any working firmware on the DEMO units?
I am presuming that the fastboot -i 0x1949 routine will not work if ADB debug is not enabled?
If there is no hope for this Demo unit, I will list it on Ebay or similar.

Desktop aplication for removing apps in android

Hi there mates,
I remember once stumbling upon a desktop client that would connect to your android phone and let you from there uninstall apps and do some other things, the problem is I cant recall its name, all I can remember is I either saw and download it from Techspot or Lifehacker but now I am unable to find it.
By any chance someone else knows what I'm talking about?
Could it be your adb or your sdk
sent from another galaxy
Yes these things can be done via command line with the adb but I'm sure a quick Google would find a GUI

PlayJam Gamestick: open port: possible ADB over wifi?

Hey guys!
I recently got a Gamestick. I already tried a lot of things to get under the hood, I am unsuccessful so far.
I have discovered the Gamestick has an open port, number 7002. It appears to be an adb bridge, as typing:
Code:
adb connect <gamestick_ip>:7002
on my PC yields a succesful connection, however, "adb devices" then says that the device is offline.
Has anyone with a bit more know-how (and a Gamestick) tried this? This device looks really useful, but it's locked down and very limited in what it can do right now. I want to try running my apps on it, but it's locked down.

Seems to be because of the authorization... You know - when you connect a phone using the adb for the first time, you have to confirm the connection for the first time... No luck confirming the adb on the gamestick...

any luck?
Sorry for re-opening an old topic but can somebody please repost the guide to side loading here? seems like it is deleted from gamestickers.net
I recently created a small custom ROM (more like a conversion) if you don't care about the Gamestick store (like me) and you want a open android stick that still works with the game pad, let me know and I can upload the ROM somewhere after I finish some details just make sure you understand that you won't be able to access the GameStick store at all, in fact your stick will no longer be a Gamestick, and well you might brick it, and all those disclaimers, blah blah blah
you can always go back to the original ROM

Well. I'm trying it on my HTC One with CyanogenMod 11, and can't seem to connect to my work computer. I've tried a couple different networks, and none have seemed to work.
I followed the steps word for word on your "Help" page. Making sure they're both on the same network, start the service on mobile, make sure both are discoverable, and start the search, and it never actually finds my other device.
Can this app do screen mirroring (mobile to mobile )? Most of the time when I'm using my tab, I wanna answer Whatsapp or share links /page to my friends in Line over my phone. It would be great if this app can do that. Really willing to pay if it does.

As you can see, I don't think anybody really knows exactly what you're asking about. I'm not really sure either. If you mean the name of the wireless hotspot, go to settings>Network & Internet>hotspot and tethering>set up Wi-Fi hotspot. You can change the name where it says 'network name'.
Not sure if this is the question that is being asked... But I would like to know how to change the device name that is being reported to my router.
It is currently an unfriendly name --- android-xxxxxxxxxxxx

I don't have the Pixel 2 yet. Just researching for when I do. So forgive me if this info is outdated and no longer works. All my devices are still Lollipop.
Anyway, I changed the name on my devices by adding a line to the build.prop.
Code:
net.hostname=[I]devicename[/I]
Just change devicename to whatever you want. Not sure of any character limitations or restrictions. But my router always showed whatever I use. Hope that helps...and still works.

Look at my post above yours.
I have that setup with a proper name but as suspected that only applies to when using your phone as a mobile hotspot.
It doesn't affect the name of the device being sent to my router when my phone is connected to my home's wifi.

This worked perfectly for me! Thank you!
You can use the Find Device app from Google self, to change the name of your device. Is don't have the option on my phone (Nokia 6.1) because of Android One but it worked like a charm with the app.
Just download the app.
Open it and login.
Select your device if you have multiple devices
Touch the 3 dotted menu button upper right and select 'Change device name' of something like that (I'm from Belgium so I don't know exactly how it's called).
Now change the name to whatever you want, and wait a bit. If you go the play store on a desktop computer and choose an app to install, press the install button, your devices will be listed. Now the new name of your device should appear. Also, if you check your device name under settings > advanced > about phone, there is a big chance it's changed there as well.
Now you can delete the app if you want.
I know what he is asking about because I'm also searching "how do I set my hostname in pixel".
As we know, every computer / server have a hostname to connect to a network. On linux, we set hostname by editing the file `/etc/hostname`. On Windows, we do it in `settings`. hostname will be shown on router, and others in the same lan can perform `ping someone_hostname.lan`.
