Hello guys, bought Verizon m8 at ebay but the lcd is damaged. I have a Sprint version (mboard damaged) and removed the front panel to use it on the Verizon, installed the thing and worked but when I put the back plate the vol+ is not working, removed the back plate and pressed the vol+ and it works.
Put the back plate again and the same thing, put the Sprint back plate and same thing happen, don't bother me to press the vol- and adjust the volume but it's really weird to me.
Anyone have/had the same thing.
Is the rocker flat or angled? I have seen them get dented in the middle, preventing one button from making contact.
no, are flat and tryied with another buttons from a spare m8 and also noticed can't boot into bootloader weird thing cause vol- is working have MM installed and S-ON.
Thanks for the reply.
Booted to BL with adb command, but cannot select anything from menu with power button, buuuuuut power button does work. WTH!!???

Is there a way to disable the volume key on the thunderbolt?
I got my hands on one (legitimately) that has had a pretty tough life. Must have been dropped on the volume key. Problem is... it's the down key... so now you get stuck at H-boot on every power up. So I S-off'd it and rooted it. (took many tries) But when I got it to boot via CWM recovery - it boots into safe mode. After poking around a bit - and the volume down key no longer working. (I think it's stuck "down". Or malfunctioning in some way that makes the phone think it's down during boot.)
I'm stuck with a stock phone that I can't even run apps on.
Which is one step further than earlier today when I couldn't get past H-boot.
Now I can ninja my way into it booting via recovery but I can't run a darn thing on it. Everything else seems fine. Aside from the scuffs and bumps.
I completely disassembled the phone to check everything I could. I can't find a cause for the volume key issue. Didn't appear to have a major water damage issue I can see. Although the indicator near the charging port was ever so slightly tinted. So there may have been a moisture issue at some point near the other side of the phone. I plucked at the tiny volume actuator under the buttons - even tried booting the phone out of it's casing to be sure the rocker was not deformed and pressing the key in any way. Same deal, got stuck at H-boot.
I planned on using it as a test mule for roms, and general douchebaggery. But is there a way to disable the physical keys in some way so I can use it? I don't plan on USING it as a phone, just as a toy. So not having a volume down key would be no big deal.
I'd hate to use an otherwise working phone as spare parts. But that's it's not so distant future if I can't get a work around for this volume key thing.
Might try loading a rom on it to see if 'safe mode' is disabled in one of them. I just tried booting my phone with CM7.1 on it with the volume key down and it didn't safe mode me. So maybe I'll load that and see what happens.
Any thoughts?
Not every day you walk into a beater TB for $0.
Yeah that totally worked. Wiped everything loaded CM7.1 and I have a working phone.
Still no working volume key. Oh well!
Yay!
hello everybody!
I have a broken power button on my nexus s and I have now remapped my buttons with the power on the volume+. It's not a great problem to have the phone configured like this, but I won't that my volume button turns broke with the intense use.
Have anyone replaced his power button? Does it need to be soldered or it need to be simply joined to the mother board?
Thank you :good:
Noone?
I took mine apart because it broke "open" so t was not possible to power on the device at all (until I messed around and found a way)
So there's 5 solder pads, 3 at the back 2 at the front. The middle pad on the back is connected to one of the outer pads, and the other outer pad is shorted to those 2 other pads when you press the button, The 2 front pads are used to hold down the switch.
Anyways, I got it out with a soldering iron but the 1 important pad got damaged.
The way I figured out to power it on was to install kies with the drivers option (just installing the samsung drivers was not enough), then get odin 1.83, this tool and CWM touch img file from the cwm website (converted to tar with that tool).
Then I turned on the phone in download mode (hold the 2 volume buttons and insert the usb cable), flashed the CWM touch tar file with odin 1.83 with the reset option on and the phone booted on into android. It's a pain but it works.
I found power buttons online for like 10$ but honestly it seems like a PITA to replace. I use button savior and if my phone dies it usually turns back on when I Plug in the charger or pop the battery in and out.

This guy works fine:
http://www.ebay.es/itm/321237784539?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
It's an half dolar on a local electronics store here (Turkey). And every samsung tackle button works with Nexus S.
You don't need to spend for that button much.
I also replaced my nexus S power button. Soldered by myself. Not so hard if you have some experience with soldering...
Mine costs about $12 for replacement, service included. Actually they took an old volume rocker thingy from a beat up samsung phone, and soldered it on mine. Been doing fine for 12 months now. I installed screen off and lock so I won't stress it too much again. Use volume rocker wake if it's included on the current ROM that you are using.. Again so that you won't beat up the little guy once you have it fixed.
Hi Everyone,
I'm have a problem with my One XL. It's an Australian Telstra item. I got soaked in the rain and the phone got wet. I put it in rice for a few days to soak up the moisture, then charged it up. After this the screen backlight would intermittently fail, and i noticed if I squeezed the LHS of the phone it would sometimes make the screen go on or off. The problem got worse over the space of about an hour and eventually the screen would not come on. I opened up the case, and noticed there was a split in the ribbon cable that is part of the screen at the point that it is folded over 90deg (I'm not sure why this was never a problem before the phone got wet?)
So I stupidly got straight stuck into taking it apart to replace the screen before backing up all my stuff. I ordered a new screen of ebay and replaced the old one. Now I am having the following behaviour:
1-Press and hold power button - Phone vibrates once, then does nothing. Screen doesn't come on.
2-Plug into PC - LED flashes red for a while then goes solid red. Screen doesn't come on. Nothing pops up in "My computer"
3-Press and hold (~10sec) power after 2 - Red light goes off. Phone vibrates once every ~30 seconds. Screen doesn't come on.
4-Press and hold power after 3 - Home/Back/Apps LEDs flash 20 times, no other change.
I also tried a number of combos of power + vol -/+ with no success.
Also, I was being lazy and doing this without putting the case back on, and my power button has fallen apart. It looks like that ribbon cable is only ~$5 on ebay, so no big deal, but means I cant really do anymore troubleshooting at the moment.
So I guess the big question is, can the phone still be salvaged? I'm thinking maybe it's stuck in a boot loop with the screen also not working?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris
The first question I have would be did you make sure you got the right screen? There are three different types of screens that came on this phone and you need to make sure you match it correctly. You can identify the type of screen by the colour of the flex cable attached.
Secondly, you should never use the power + volume up button combination, I'm not sure where you saw that information but it puts the phone into Qualcomm download mode which you definitely don't want. The only button combination that should ever be used is power + volume down.

Hi Timmaaa,
Both screens had the same orange/brown flex cables. I did read that there were different screens, but had thought there were only two and that the other had a green flex, so I definitely didn't get that one. Are the other 2 colours close?
I'm not sure where I read the power + volume up thing as I have read a heap of different threads. What would the expected behaviour be if I had put it into that mode?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Chris
The three different screens have very different colour coding on the flex cable, so matching should be a piece of cake, which I believe you've done correctly. Putting the phone into Qualcomm download mode is kinda like a bricked state, if you're getting the red charging led and the cap button lights flashing I think you're ok.
Another thing to note is that you usually need to sync your new screen when you install it. From memory I believe you need to power the phone on, remove the old screen while the phone is on, and install the new screen while the phone is on. If you didn't follow this process that might be why your display isn't working. Other than that your phone might have just suffered some fatal hardware damage due to the liquid ingress, which isn't going to be fixable.

Thanks again Timmaaa,
I had a closer look at my old screen and it does have the small green section on the flex cable which I didn't notice the first time around. Bugger.
So i disassembled it again and swapped back to the old screen. The display still doesn't turn on, but the phone itself now stays on and the computer recognises it! I'm transferring all my photos across to my computer now, then I'll try to sync it properly and see if that helps.
Cheers,
Chris
Ok so I swapped the screens back and forth with the power on, and now it's working! Thanks Timmaaa, I would never have guessed I needed to have the phone turned on in order to swap parts, seems pretty weird. Now just got to get a new power button.
Cheers,
Chris
Awesome. Glad to be able to help.

I was running the latest stock image (MMB29V) since yesterday on my Nexus 5 and today I used the Nexus root toolkit as always to root the device. Well TWRP flashed once and it said it copied the root files to the device. I had it in my pocket for a few minutes and after that it went into a crazy constant boot loop. It will stop eventually but if I keep the charging cable in it won't stop. I cannot get into recovery because I get the "Start" screen but I cannot advance because it reboots too quickly. I have found a few you tube videos where people push the power button like they are playing the old school game "Track and Field" but this does not work for me nor do I think it's a power button issue. I think I stupidly might have hit some kind of button combo while I'm my pocket believe it or not. I pulled the cover off and was hoping to pull the battery but Im not a fan of doing that since its not a simple task. Any help appreciated. This phone is dead to me and that is NOT good. I need to get this working.
TIA
Bill
Will the phone stay in fastboot mode or does it quickly restart?
Possible power button problem?

It quickly restarts. I want to say its not a problem with the power button because it has been fine for a few years now w/out issue and only happened after rooting earlier today. Right now the only way I can even get the phone to turn on is the plug the charging cable in and then the restarting commences. Does it sound like a power button issue? Possibly but its hard to believe, I dunno. Waiting on a call back from Google tech support to see if they are any help.
It could be a power button issue. You'll have to remove the motherboard to find out.
Once removed from the housing, quickly press and release the power button several times in a row using more pressure than normal. While the motherboard is out of the phone, clean around the power button with pure alcohol.

Is there a write up on that here somewhere? Guess I will have to search around for it.

Did NOT want to screw up my phone so I sent it to LG. Took a few weeks but it cost me 78.00 total for them to repair the power button issue. Whatever they replaced also fixed the low volume issue I was experiencing as well so it worked out.
I have an Oneplus Nord Indian version which broke into pieces during an accident. Now my display is not working. Before replacing the display I just wanted to make sure that the phone is still working. So I plugged it in and it vibrated for a second. I thought that the phone is booting without a problem. But after sometime when i put a sim card in the phone it doesn't seem to be working. When I unplug the charger and then replug it the phone doesn't give out any sound or vibration. So I thought about force restarting the phone. But to my surprise holding on the power button for a long time doesn't do anything because I already know that the phone will vibrate if it starts to boot up. So I went in and checked every flex cable connection. And when I replugged the battery again the power button worked, the phone vibrated but again after sometime the power button just doesn't seem to be doing anything. So I held the VOL + button and power button together and this worked, everytime when I hold those buttons together, the phone responded with a vibration. So I thought about flashing it with the MDM Tool as the data in the phone was not important for me. The flashing completed without a fuss and the phone vibrated again. And guess what, Its still the same. No charging sounds, none of the sim card works , no vibration when plugged in , the alert slider isn't doing anything. The only thing that the phone will respond to is by holding the Volume Up button and power button together. So my question is, whether this is because of not having an display connected or is the mainboard faulty here ? Because replacement displays are damn expensive and I'm not ready to buy it unless I'm absolutely sure that the phone only needs a new display. And is there any other way to make sure that the phone is working or not ?
I had a similar situation. I closed the trunk of the car and the phone was on the bumper and I hit it with the trunk lid. the glass cracked, but with a long press on the power button there was a vibration. I bought a new screen and replaced it. and everything works great

That's what I'm afraid of, if the phone is good it must vibrate when power button is long pressed which indicates that the phone is rebooting. Thanks for your reply mate. Appreciate it.
