One of Microsoft's big selling points of WM5 was that it could read and write native Office 2003 files. I've seen Office 2K7 in a few "home-cooked ROMs" here and would like to know if this is working natively with the new XML Office files. If so, has anyone had compatibility issues with syncing with an Office 2003 desktop environment?
Sorry for the long title, it was the best I could come up with.
First, the facts:
My work PC uses Windows XP and Lotus Notes 6.5.
My home computer is Vista Business, Outlook is NOT installed.
My phone is (well, will be, when it arrives) a Cingular 8125/HTC Wizard. From what I can gather on the forums, I have the option of running WM5 or WM6.
I only care about syncing my contacts and calendar, email is of no concern.
My questions are:
Is it possible to sync contacts and calendar info in the above scenario? From a few posts I read here and elsewhere, it seems you need to install Outlook in order to sync to Vista.
If this is possible, what mix of software will allow this?
I support I'd prefer WM6 for my device, but for no real reason other than being "the latest". Would I be better served sticking to WM5?
If I *have* to install Outlook at home to get this working, what version would be best? Would Outlook 2007 be able to import my existing rules/filters, messages, etc?
Am I missing anything else?
Thanks!
-Brett.

I have done some searching and I'm familiar with Easysync Pro. I'm running an older version now for my Pocket PC 2002 PDA now. (v4.22). The latest version has the following requirements...
Supported mobile devices:
Microsoft Pocket PC 2000 / 2002 / 2003 / Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC devices (ActiveSync)
Looks like it's not ready for WM6?

Do you have any personal experience with this?
I checked out the vendor's site and it looks promising:
Compatible Devices:
...- Windows Mobile 5 & 6
However:
Works with applications:
- Microsoft Outlook 98, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007
- Lotus Notes R5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0
- Novell Groupwise 6.5 SP2/7.0
- Lotus Organizer 5.0, 6.0, 6.1
- ACT! 2000, 5.0, 6.0
Looks like I'd have to install Outlook at home. Not a huge deal, but Windows Mail is working fine for us.
Thanks,
-Brett.
There might be a simpler solution: try one (or more) of the online syncing services. Many are free, some have paid adds-ons that are even more useful, and best - no extra software to install.
I haven't tried them myself yet -- but planning to do so soon -- but I want try mobical.net, zyb.com, and plaxo.com (in that order).
If anyone has links to good, informative reviews to these 3 services, I'm eager to see them.
"Do you have any personal experience with this?"
nop just did the search dont have any exp with notes
EasySync Pro is working well for WM6.
fyi .. I am using Atom Exec. Windows XP with Lotus Notes 7.0 and EasySync 4.2.4
IBM / Lotus have recently released EasySync 4.2.5 - but you have to pay for it...
Pity I didn't find that out before my Kaiser arrived today!
I can sync my Nike (O2 XDA-Star) with my notebook at home and previously it was also running with my notebook at my office.
ROM: Clean Black 2 Reloaded Office - Manila2D Special
Since I have installed "Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007" and "Microsoft Conferencing Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook" at my office notebook, I could not use activeSync to synchronize my outlook contacts, dates with my office notebook.
Sometimes I got no connection, sometimes I could connect, but could not synchronize the phone.
The same problem occur on another office PC from my colleague with a Omnia mobile phone.
Did anyone knows if this problem is really related to the PC-SW updates?

Hi people,
i want to sync my outlook notes with my TyTn II phone how have WM6.5.
to have my notes clearly organized i used phatnotes.
but it seem dont work with the 64Bit of outlook :/
do you know another to sync outlook notes with my phone ?
thx a lot people
Why are you running 64-Bit Outlook.
Microsoft said they don't recommend people run 64-Bit office because Add-Ins don't work, and of course there have been known issues with WMDC/ActiveSync since Office 2010 Beta.
There's no reason to run Office 2010 as a consumer.
You're free to do it if you choose, but no one on this forum will be able to help you with your problem.
Uninstall Office 2010 64-Bit and use the 32-Bit Version.
I have seriously doubt you have the PowerPoint and Excel document sizes large enough to warrant using the 64-Bit version and that's practically the only reason why anyone would install it over the 32-Bit version.
Hi peeps,
Never even seen a Samsung omnia 7, but tonight I was asked how you would sync MS Outlook contacts and calender from windows 7 pc to the Samsung omnia 7
I couldn't answer at the time because my last windows phone was a HTC HD2 running 6.5 and syncing that with XP seemed to be a bit backward compared with my old HTC Blueangel and ActiveSync.
Can you please point me / her in the correct direction. She has a pop email account, not hotmail and apparently is finding it a little difficult to find instructions for anything other than an MS Exchange setup.
I did a search and saw a few references to wireless sync, what's the way forward please?
If this MS outlook hotmail connector "Work around" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqJL9X0oqIk is the only work around then MS are truly nuts, what an own-goal. iPhone & Android have better sync capabilities with MS Outlook
you have to setup the phone to synchronize with Windows Live Website and then add in outlook (2007>2010) the hotmail account as mail account.
It will download the "hotmail connector" to download all data from windows live.
you can also use windows live mail 2011 instead of outlook (free and easy to use)
MSFT have stated pretty clearly that the future is in the cloud. Actually Windows Live mail is an excellent implemenation of cloud & local e-mail integration.. If you want to use google mail or something else, then fine, (and WP7 is fine with that too) .. but I don't know why MSFT have to support possible e-mail configurations - for free. If you don't want to play it their way try nuevasync, pipe everything via their service & connect as an exchange server.
