S6 reboots when locked - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys and girls. New guy hehe.
I have a HUGE problem. Everytime i lock my phone or it locks itself, it turns off or reboots.
Anyone else heard of this before?
I've wiped, hard reset, everything Googling has suggested to no avail.

As far as I can tell it is not. It happens on fresh installs as well as backups :/

I think I finally got rid of the problem by restoring from an old backup through Switch.
Been 30 mins and no reboot yet.
Will come back after work with results from the day.
Update: back to rebooting.
Doesn't happen when an app is playing music/radio (Spotify etc)
Is there any way to get back to 100% stock?
Had to use twr to get out of bootlooping.
Or a link to get a working custom rom.
SMG920K is my model. Swedish version.

Any way around not having to clear the "cache" on BOOT?

So I am running into the problem that my phone wont boot up if I turn my phone off, or it dies.
The only way around to getting it back on is getting CWM up and doing a "cache wipe".
The symptoms I am having when I try to turn it on is I do not get past the LG logo. The soft keys are lit and the screen back light comes on and off (black screen) with a 2-3 second intervals forever (have not went past 10min).
I am running xboards tweaked 2.3.3 with fauxes stock volt kernel, any more into?
Thanks guys.
No one? Really?..
Sounds like an errant app is causing you problems. Once you boot start uninstalling apps one at a time that you think are the culprit and try rebooting. Do this until your phone can boot again and then you'll have a good idea of the problem app.

The only thing I can think of is maybe an issue with the custom kernel. Do you remember having the issue before you flashed Faux's kernel?

I installed fauxes OC (over clock), and its working fine now, I was having problems with SV (stock voltage), maybe that was the culprate?
P.S. After restarting my phone (I have been doing it every so often to test for stability) my home screen got reset to factory? I had all my apps and everything, it was just factory..??? Only happened once tho.

[Q] Random Reboots Since 4.4.3

Anyone else?
Fully stock? Do a factory reset from stock recovery.. Should fix it. If you're on a custom rom, do a clean flash. (wiping everything except data)
- Sent from an IceCold Hammerhead!
Thx for the advice.
But was wondering if anyone else is getting them.
I'm trying a few things to fix it as I never had a reboot since I owned the phone in November last year, until 4.4.3
At the moment I'm trying an older radio, but it's hard to pin since my last try of using a 4.4.2 kernel kept me up for 35 hours before it happened again.
got an rma replacement.. still happening

no, is completely fresh
tried everything under the sun over the last month.. factory image installs, running safe mode, no apps installed, new Google account... ect ect
can't stop a soft reboot occurring every 2 or 3 days.. I use to have 'up times' of over a month on 4.4

Upgrade to 4.4.4 and see if it sorts out?? You get random reboots even when the phone is in safe mode?

I'm assuming you're stock, unrooted??
still suffering from this
i have noticed that if location is not set to off, it's much better, where it can run for over a week at time
as soon as i turn location off, I'm lucky to get much over 30 hours before it soft reboots
going back to 4.4 it is completely stable as it always was

[Q] Can Only Boot to Recovery

About 30 minutes ago my phone was working fine, the last thing I remember doing was sending a text. A few minutes later I look down at my phone and notice it is in recovery. At this point I'm confused wondering how it got there, but figure it's whatever and reboot into system. It reboots back into recovery and at this point I'm kinda freaking out. I do a backup, wipe, and restore from a backup ~2 weeks ago. Again, rebooting just causes my phone to go into recovery.
Earlier today there was a notification on my phone about an update but I just ignored it as I didn't have time to deal with it. I assume that it automatically was applied and that is what caused this problem.
edit: If you have this problem, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/fix-stuck-custom-recovery-trying-ota-t2907508
Same thing just happened to me.
I turned off OTA from earlier today and also removed the notification using AppOps and now I can't boot to anything but TWRP

Was coming here to say this worked - I was already doing this.
I'm back up and running again.
Not sure wtf caused the issue - I didn't take the OTA and have been fine on the phone all day until just now

Gotta love XDA.. i was getting ready for bed.. saw a bright light, it was my phone. Same thing as mentioned. only rooted and bumped. Have been denying the OTA. Even did the hidden menu trick, but still got notifications for some reason. Flashing the ZIP showed success; trying to restore my back up now.

I mean I still have Root and TWRP, I might have factory reset in my panic last night before finding the fix above. Probably the cause of losing all my apps and data
ATTT Forced UPDATE
It would appear after cruising the forums this morning that ATT forced an update to all users last night. It happened to me and many others like yourself. even people that had turned off updates in the hidden menu. It is total crap and not to happy about it obviously. good thing it sent me into a boot loop, and @autoprime zip fixed me up, even though i was back up on stock rooted, I took this opportunity to move over to the PoweruserV1 international rom to attempt to keep this from happening again. Luckily our DEVS are getting development moving and soon this will be a thing of the past....
I froze Software Update with TB and did not get auto updated last night and have not gotten any new nags today. I did try to update yesterday and got the stuck in TWRP thing and flashed the fix to get back working.

whats the name of the apk to freeze? Thanks
Just adding to this, that it was 'forced' onto me as well, and also sent me to soft brick loop (TWRP), so I'm having to use the get out of jail thread. THANKS LG!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!! It is called Software Update in TB. I only have it frozen since last night so hopefully this does the trick...it also removes update option from settings FYI.
Anyone else have this happen again last night? Phone was fine at 5am, woke up at 8:30 to recovery. Flashed the same zip and now it's all fine again.
Freeze software update with titanium backup so your phone doesn't try to install the update agian
wow att and their updates f*** with everything, currently having a locked s4 with old firm of mf3. i plan on upgrading my device but on the fence with all this lock down bs. switching to tmobile seems like a decent option...... so confused and undecided

Root worked fine for some time and then suddenly fell into bootloop

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has an explanation for this.
I have T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 G930T and had working root for quiet some time until one day some apps started to crash. So I thought I would try clearing app cache and rebooting. Thats when the phone fell into a bootloop and got stuck on the Tmobile logo. I was able to boot up with factory reset but still would fall into bootloop again when restarted. So I redid everything by going back to stock and reroot. Now everything seems to work fine but I was just wondering why that happened? I mean its not like I'm getting bootloop while rooting but all of a sudden after its been working fine for quiet some time. I wouldnt want it to happen again since its a hassle setting up everything.
I am on the latest PIA firmware and could it be google and samsung security are catching up? I think there were rumors where your google accounts could be blocked for rooting which seems highly unlikely. Many are also rooted on PIA firmware but I havent heard of anyone mentioning this. Anybody care to explain to this noob?

Lost SIM signal again! Please help!

yesterday I got it happened again: one of my sim cards suddenly lost signal. completely. and since then it keeps happening so randomly. please help!
im currently on oreo 41.3.A.2.75, BL unlocked, kernel packed by serajr's tool using ta_poc method with my own original TA, magisk installed, systemlessly xposed. i got it all working fine. until this issue happened.
i've also tried different ways: reflash, wipe data completely including sdcard, switch to DRMfix method, remove app by app, remove xposed... even switching SIM slots.... no luck so far.
about the issue, it just happens randomly without any clue. one of my SIM card just disappears. sometimes this one, sometimes the other. until now the only way is restart and pray it won't happen again.
please help! please!

Bro I'm having the same, loosing randomly my second sim card... Thought it was caused by some apps abusing of phone permission, but no luck it's not that. I cleared cache and art yesterday, now it's has not happened, but I guess it will happen again soon

it will, unfortunately. i tried almost everything except uninstall magisk, lose root and restore TA & stock image. maybe it will fix the problem but whats the point if we no longer have root right?
back to nougat it was running flawlessly so i have a doubt that it has something to do with the combination of oreo + magisk + ta_poc method but i have no idea.
in ta_poc method i see it executes something like ua_modem_switcher. does it has something to do with modem?
@serajr you mind having a look pls. sorry to bother you the master but im running out of hope...

Yes, removing magisk will lead to loose root access. But we can keep SONY features with kernel and TA.
The idea is :
-trying running stock OREO without root
-then adding custorm kernel with or without TA (original or drm_fix)
-at least adding magisk
I guess we need to try each step for a while
Maybe Serajr will have an idea, on my side i will try these steps and report...
highly appreciate that. i will do some more testings on my side too. the point is, although i know it will happen eventually but it happens so unpredictably its not easy to reproduce.
it may sound odd but you're here so i can at least hope it is just a software problem not hardware.
I was never be able to get my xz working with magisk 15 or 16. Always get the sim not recognized problem, maybe yours is magisk related.

My phone is working fine for some days so far. Just cleared cache and dalvik as I mentionned earlier. BTW before doing this I've updated my Magisk from 15.3 to 16 without clearing anything (maybe the problem is related). Will report soon if it's still working or not...

I did that, many times. clearing cache and dalvik seems do the trick. but it actually doesn't. it will work for a few days and the issue will happen again. unfortunately.
by the way I spent some times paying high attention to the screen just to wait for it to happen. It looks like the moment when it happens, SystemUI (or Home Launcher I dont know) is terminated (stopped) then I am brought back to lock screen and at that moment, one of my SIM gone. So to me it looks like a service (or an app) is terminated and isn't restarted properly?
have you tried using stock rom and see if the problem persists?

@Pandemic hmmm im not saying i dont believe but how do you explain it runs just fine for days after restart? usually 2 3 days then it happens.
and like i said the moment when it happens it looks like the whole systemui and running apps get force stopped.
lets say im playing a game then it becomes a bit laggy like its running out of memory then everything just closed then im brought back to lock screen and one of the signal indicator on status bar disappears.
do you happen to know any command that can restart the modem / cell / signal service? or any services related? just wanna try to manually execute it see if it fixes it.
also wanna mention again that im using ta_poc method for the drm sh!ts and it does have something like ua_modem_switcher executed. no idea whether it could be related
Hy guys, juste a quick update, my phone was working fine until 2/3 days. I've removed magisk but problem still happening, even clearing cache and dalvik didn't fixed it. My guess is, it could it be app related or crash due to RAM to high (my ram usage average is about 2.5 Go/day)...
Hi guys,
I have the same issue on a Note 4 (sm-n910f)....
I have been flashing roms in a long time and this is the first time it happens to me.
For me, the phone shows some lag, it auto restarts and the signal is lost. I can get it back by clearing delvik and cache, but this will happen at least twice a day.
I flashed stock and the problem goes away, does not happen even once on stock. So this tells me its not a hardware issue (i was so close in thinking its a motherboard issue)...
From reading various threads on this, i get to the conclusion that it is not device specific.
I have flashed half a dozen roms and only stock eliminates the issue. I stayed on stock for 3 days no issue, then reflashed lineage 15.1 and the problem is back. The really weird part is that this happened suddenly, not after a new flash or any operation on the phone.
Anyone figured this out?
