Do you still use KitKat? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I know we are 2016! But I still feel like asking, do you still use KitKat? if you do which ROM? How do you take care of play services battery drain? I like MIUI ROM. I used it.. But it's 4.4 based and has battery drain issue with play services and I couldn't fix that issue.. Any help / ideas / thoughts / experiences appreciated !

Okay.. I guess nobody uses it anymore. Mods pls close / remove thread. thanks.

Daily driver material?
Hi!
Just wondering..is this rom good enough for daily use? Is it better than stock 4.1.2 (4.2.2 is terrible btw) because i do bot know whether to flash this or not. Also, can you flash it using cwm as I dont really like the TWRP ui

I think it's stable enough for daily use. I use it for many days without any restart or any problem.
You have to update to 4.2.2 first (It won't work on 4.1.x bootloader)
You must know to backup whatever data you don't want to loose cause a full wipe is needed.
Read the first post for warnings, bugs etc. The main bug is bluetooth headset (if you own one).
And yes, you can install from CWM. Instructions on first post.
Also, read third post to keep it fast as long and as "hard" as you use it.

I think @Bestaki23 should compile with 240dpi density.
@sujith88 no, for custom roms you need custom recovery ( CWM or Philztouch)

How to get sources for CM11 for I9105P?
In "[ROM][4.4.4][UNOFFICIAL][M11]Cyanogenmod 11.0" the location of the device specific source code is given as https://github.com/SamsungBCM-Cyanog..._samsung_s2vep and https://github.com/SamsungBCM-Cyanog...ys2plus-common and https://github.com/SamsungBCM-Cyanog...ys2plus-common.
How can I set up a build environment for the I9105P? I already read (an understood) "Learning to build Cyanogenmod" and getting the CM11 sources with repo is no problem, the only problem remaining is how to specify the above mentioned two device specific sources. Can this be done with a local mainfest in the local_manifest directory? If yes, how does this have to look like and what steps are necessary to sync with these two repositories? Are additional steps specific to the I9105P necessary to start a build?
Vibration
So you said the rom is good for daily use... In the main thread I saw numerous comments about vibration being buggy and sometimes non functional. Is this true? The 4.4.2 cm11 by cooldevelopement has fully working vibration. So should I flash cm11 m11 (4.4.4) or 4.4.2? And in the m11 build, are there any other bugs apart from whats listed under "known issues"? Now Android lollipop is just round the corner I hope to have at least the second latest android version :/ 4.1.2 is starting to show it's age when it comes to app compatibility...
Set mobile data limit my phone crash
Hallo,

Hi, thanks for replying! I already know there is a 4.2.2 offical firmware for the s2 plus, thanks. I dont know about you, but when I updated it I experienced major lag issues, even after doing a factory reset, claering cache, reflashing, etc. Its overall a terrible update from the almost bug free 4.1.2. However, 4.1.2 is soon 3 versions behind and I was looking into flashing one of these awesome looking ROMs that are running 4.4. (Just love how AOSP looks :3) However, I dont really know which ROM i should flash
I think I have decided to flash a cm rom, anyways, but which version should I flash? I used cooldevelopement's cm11 4.4.2 rom in the past, which seems mostly bug free. However I switched back to stock 4.1.2 due to the old youtube app versions having the pixelated vid that the 4.2.2 stock rom used to suffer from. Is this 4.4.4 cm Better or worse than the older 4.4.2 cm I installed before? Thanks in advance sorry for a long message

I own moto g xt1033 dual sim phone currently running crDroid rom latest kitkat version. As per my experience, the custom version of lollypop android for our phone is just under development with few or many bugs yet to be fixed. I don't know cause I haven't tried any till date but there are many custom roms based on cm12 in the development thread, however, with some bugs on them. If you've tried xperience.cyanogen rom, 4.4 version then you'll know that they have the best audio quality and battery backup plus high performance. According to their last update in their Facebook page, they are developing cm12 for moto g. So, I'm waiting for their release.
Wait... the actuals roms of lollipop are buggy. Stay on 4.4.4 and be happy!

Best Lollipop (5.1.1) rom for daily driver?

Hi guys, i'm looking for a lollipop rom to suit my daily needs -- i'm currently using marshmallow but i need to downgrade due to some application compatibility problems.. can anyone recommend me any?
also, do i need to downgrade my radio/bootloader/etc for this? thanks
What's wrong with stock 5.1.1? If you're moving between major revisions, the recommendations that I've seen constantly are to do a full wipe and reinstall, so you'd be taking a risk if you try to install piecemeal, with components from different versions of the ROM. I'd say do a backup of your essential data and then a full refresh.

Euphoria has some great features and is buttery smooth. I downgraded from 6.0 to it. I don't think you need to downgrade anything, just full wipe and flash. Might need to unmount \system if you get an error. Heres the link to the download.

This is and has been my daily driver for a long time, you could also opt for the official Euphoria ROM I think that's on google circles though.
thanks for the heads up .. will look into euphoria

Advice Please regarding Marshmallow on Note 3

Hello.
I have a Galaxy Note 3 currently running the Vodafone official Lollipop ROM. I find it very sluggish and would like to speed it up.
Would I see any benefit in rooting my phone and going to CM13 or an alternative Marshmallow ROM ?
I have 2 apps that I use constantly - IBM Verse and VPNCilla, both of which I use for work. Would both of these apps work
on a custom ROM, as this would be a deal breaker if they did not.
If all of the answers to the above were yes, where would be the best place to download the necessary ROM etc, as it has been a while since I have done this.
Many thanks,
Simon

Yes marshmallow is more smooth relative to lollipop.
As for your apps it depends on the ROM, if the ROM you are using has a VPN bug it means you won't be able to use vpncilla properly ,just check known issues of the ROM before flashing to make sure
XDA is the good place to find development
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/rom-unofficial-cyanogenmod-13-0-t3238064 try any other if you don't like it ,lots of marshmallow based ROMs out there nowadays

ordered Samsung s7 Exynos version[SHALL I INSTALL CUSTOM ROM]

Hello,
I got a real good deal on the samsung s7 so i took it.
My question to you is, shall is stick to stock os or install a custom rom?
the reason i ask this is cause i was using a redmi note 4 and the custom firmware is kinda buggy, i need to reboot once a while. its running on 8.1.
it has LTE issues, Keyboard issues, apps crash randomly, slows down once a while.
Also, if i root it and install 8.1 on my samsung will the camera quality go down? i have heard this is true? can someone please correct me.
Honestly i want a stable experiance with a good camera, thats all.
Please advice.
Stable & Full camera quality, stick to stock
You need a TouchWiz ROM with stock camera app to get 100% camera quality
Custom ROMs are much more likely to be unstable than stock, but I haven't tried any

I've run a variety of Custom AOSP / AOKP Roms on my S7 - Nougat and Oreo 8.1 - After the latest Samsung Firmware update - I figured that I'd run Stock Rooted for a while - Stock is Definitely more stable than any of the AOSP /AOKP Custom Roms and the Camera is one thing that is constantly being complained about on AOSP / AOKP Roms.... That being said - If you like the idea of Running a Custom Rom & are prepared for some bugs - They can certainly be used as a Daily Driver ??

Hey thanks for the reply guys!
i thought maybe since the device is old someone might have ported a stock quality like camera.
its easy for me to say i guess! im sure its tough. well, i guess i'll install the pixel rootless launcher and keep using this beast! im not much of a heavy user its just whatsapp and instagram chats mostly.
though i'll miss android 8.1. but stability is worth it!
i was thinking how about i install a 8.1 rom+ google camera[ is it stable and better than stock now?]
