Hi Team,
Just wondering if it would be possible to create an app for the Gear S2 for unlocking NFC enabled door locks such as the Samsung SHS-1321 NFC Enabled Door Lock?
Cheers

I am interested in this application as well, I feel it would be of benefit, I will look more into it
Excellent, thank you! I am glad to hear I am not the only only one who sees value in this solution.

This is one of the things that drives me insane about Samsung.
This is a great idea and for s company like Samsung who is trying to get into the home altomization so bad they should have made this already.
They should have a Samsung Pay app for the watch by now.

Yes, they should have. However, it may be a more realistic idea to have other third parties making it a reality. Other companies also have similar solutions just not an app for the Gear S2.
Ospon Android Smart NFC door lock
Apartment condo Android NFC smart door lock OS6600NFC
Smart Phone Open NFC door lock
All of these are on AliExpress and have there own phone apps.
Would it be any easier develop a android wear app?
Cheers

do anyone have a app that can generate a NFC code on S2. I can program the hardware (arduino, raspberries, nodemcu. ..) to receiver and process that code.
Just stuck on NFC of gear s2

I have an old app called Air Toggles. I love it. It is still installed in my Note 3 gear 2. Unfortunately Air Toggles is no longer in Samsung store. I have it on my note 7 through smart switch but no way I know of to transfer it to gear 2 since Air Toggles is no longer in Samsung store. Is there a way to do it?
Alternatively, all I really need is to see phone battery percentage from watch without removing phone from briefcase. Any app that will tell me that % would be fine.
I would also love an app that would allow me to lock my phone from my gear 2..the old one not the new one. I'm stocking up on gear 2 to keep ir blaster.
Thanks for your help!

Air Toggle still exist and still in the Gear Store. Like all Samsung Apps, depend on the phone model and on Gear Model.
It is in my Gear 1 and in my Gear S with my Galaxy S4.
There are also some others apps like this : Quick Settings and others...
For phone batt we have some faces with this info like : All in One or the xWatch serie.
Apparently air toggles blocked for Note 7. I have it still on another gear 2 and current watch is gear 2. Wish it were still there for Note 7. I only want to control wifi and sound remotely and see battery %. I do not understand why not still there. I'm sure it would work. If you go to Sammy store can you find it?
I like the weather watch face and do not wish to change it.
I am using wearable widgets to get battery percentage but much preferred the air toggles app.
Thanks anyway.

For others phone parameters there are a samsung app "Paramètres instantanés" (search US name) with wifi, data, audio, Gps....
I can see AirToggle on my Samsung Store with my S4.
Hello,
you propally already know that the features 'nfc.tag' and 'nfc.peer-peer' in the Gear S2 are currently not officially supported.
So I would like to know if you think that it might be possible to unlock all features (especially nfc.tag) for the Gear S2 by rooting etc.?
Or could it really be that the NFC-chip is by hardware technically unable with that?
Here is a example where unlocking NFC on the iPhone was succesful: https://www.macobserver.com/news/nfc-on-iphone-can-be-unlocked-but-should-you-care/. And here a XDA thread where someone got to unlock full NFC support on a Sony Smartwatch 3: https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch-3/orig-development/sony-smartwatch-3-nfc-support-package-t3219713
If you have an opinion I would like to know it and if you have a concrete idea it would be even better.
Thank you.
Good Morning Everybody,
So I am now rocking an Asus Zenwatch 3 and since the Android Wear 2.0 update is not coming, I am trying to get myself a new smartwatch.
I am thinking either to buy the Gear S3 or to stay on Android Wear 2.0 and going for the Huawei Watch 2 Classic or LG Watch Style.
My phone is not a Samsung and I don't intend in getting one soon, I currently have the Google Pixel XL and in a couple of days switching to the Blackberry Keyone.
Question, is this watch worthed and useful?
Does it work well with a non Samsung Device?
How's Tizen compare to Android Wear?
Thanks
The whole functionality you'll only get with a Samsung phone from 4.3/4.4. (Samsung Store/Pay, watch updates and so on often failes on different android-phones)
Some Android-phones are completely not supported (not only because of root and custom roms..), like my Mediapad X2...

https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/themes/how-to-gear-s3-unsupporteted-android-t3521532
(AndroidWear is working fine on my phone, without any limitations, also 2.0 update with my Huawei Watch 1)
I switched from using an LG to a Samsung phone with the S3.There was very little additional functionality gained. Here's a chart that compares all the features across Samsung, Android, and iOS devices.

Thank you guys
Well, I'm using it with the Blackberry Priv and I don't have any issues at all. It is connected via Bluetooth. I logs my walks, hikes and bike rides and I can view the info on the watch or in the S-health app on the Priv. I can update or install apps and watch faces from the Priv. I have been using S-pay which I still find weirdly fun to do!!!! But the Priv still runs Marshmallow. I don't know any details but there are or may be issues with Nougat on some aspects of the Gear S3 (others can let you know if S-pay works).
I'm also active on the Crackberry forum and there have been a few discussions of the Gear S3 there. There's also a Keyone thread and maybe you could ask for info.

I'm using the S3 with a Moto G4 and everything works with no restrictions. Don't feel like you need a Samsung phone to use all the features.

What does the comment help all those who do not have all the functions with his android phone?
Or what is the general benefit of this observation?
Additionally, the thread creator has no Moto G4 -
if I am not wrong
I have been using Samsung Galaxy Note 5 as the carrier with earlier a Gear S2 and now Gear S3 Frontier (and Moto 360 prior to the Gear watches), and absolutely love my S3.
The key aspects of the watch which I find very useful - The rotating dial and unique interface, excellent battery, nice in built S-Health, Samsung-Pay, etc should work with all Android phones. With Gear app and S-Health app available in Google App-store, anyone with an Android phone can install them and make use of them.
The other features I also like very much is ability to sync all messages and email on the S3 itself since I use the Samsung native messaging and email app on my Note5. This I believe will be the only things not available with other Android devices.
Overall - The message/email syncing, S-Pay from wrist, decent stock health tracking app, very intuitive and nice interface with rotating bezel, and extremely competitive battery life (I get 4 days with Always on Display off) has made me absolutely adore the S3.
I am wondering if anyone knows a way to run an android app on the gear s3 watch which is Tizen I guess ,,, the reason is I want to run life 360 tracking app on it because it is a verizon LTE stand alone watch with its own number.
thanks Scott

Is this possible yet? Really want life360 or similar app to track elderly parent that has dimentia.
Hi
I'm thinking about buying the pocophone, but first I would like to know if it works with my gear s2. There is someone who has a way to prove compatibility between the two devices.
Thanks to anyone who helps me with my problem.
yes, I use my Gear S2 and my S3 on my Pocophone F1. The 2 watch are on the phone and works. Just see last time I used the S2, I not see the Calendar event on the watch with the widget. Do not know if it is just a one time bug ? after I used the S3 and the S3 displayed my events.
confirmed, i use the pocophone f1 as well on beta version

Maybe consider getting the Mi8 too, this way you will absolutely get all of your LTE bands, plus have AMOLED.
My gear 2 works great with the Mi8 and since the mi 9 came out yesterday. MI8 Prices are being cut by a large margin.

I use the Samsung gear S3 with Pocophone, but...
I have several issues I didn't have even I still had my Samsung.
The connection to my phone is lost often, and mostly I have to manually reconnect it from my phone.
I often don't get notifications even though the connection is there.
The find my phone feature doesn't work.
But, it is alright.
The Pocophone is really excellent and a very good buy. Just don't count on a smooth operation with your Samsung gear.
You must exclude from battery optimisation all apps needed : Samsung Wearable, Gear S plugin et Accesory service. And verify at each reboot and exclude again because some or all this 3 apps do not keep the battery settings after reboot. And prevent from unload with the lock icon on running list apps.
