If you try to do it really fast it might not focus correctly. so It is fast but not always great, you need to take a sec to focus.
The camera launches really fast and you can use the burst mode to take the snaps you really do not want to but it will be in focus or not, that's pure 50/50.

I've been very happy with the camera speed. You can take pictures very quickly. I enabled both the power-button-double-click to launch the camera, and the flick-your-wrists-twice to launch. Both work very well.
Burst mode works very well. The slow-motion camera is great (although it seems to truncate the first second or so).

Ive found the camera to be the same speed, but better quality than the s9+.
There is only about a half second delay between opening the camera and being able to take a clear photo
