Hi guys!
I got a G3 yesterday and decided to root it. I installed TWRP and decided to install Cloudy G3.
Immediately on boot, all services stop responding. There's a loop of popups saying things like "System UI has stopped responding." The same with download manager and other things. So I figured the rom didn't install properly. I went to my backup to restore it and TWRP doesn't have it listed. I looked in all directories I could (saved it initially to /sdcard/) but it's not there. The weird part is that when you click the restore button going into the list of your backups, my backup pops up for like a quarter of a second and goes away.
I decided to use TWRP's wipe function to do a system restore. It completed and now my android version is "Cloudy g3 2.5." So... System restore installed the rom? I'm just really confused at all of this. Anybody have any insight to the stuff I've mentioned?

Did you use wipe before flashing the rom? If not that's Why you had the issue you didn't wipe. You MUST wipe when flashing a rom.

Did not know that, and no I didn't. But I appreciate you letting me know that, probably some volatile information I should've been aware of.
May I ask why the device fixed the CloudyG3 rom when I did wipe it? I thought wiping through TWRP sends the phone back to factory settings, but it just fixed the rom and booted fine.

Your welcome
It wiped your current install, current rom being cloudy it reset it to factory settings. Doing a wipe won't put you back to stock.

Ah, so flashing the stock lg firmware would be the only way to send a device back to factory settings? I'm enjoying this learning process for sure.

I have a friend who has the Skyrocket.
He is rooted and has TWRP installed, but he is still running the stock rom and kernel.
Today his phone randomly rebooted and now it is stuck on the samsung logo. We have been able to take out the battery and boot into TWRP no problem.
We do have a backup from a while back and he is also considering trying a new rom at this point, but we'd like to be able to get this to boot.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get this thing to boot? What could have caused this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
If the backup is a nandroid backup made in twrp restore that in twrp

We do have a twrp backup and can restore it, but we're hoping to find something that will fix the boot issue.
Do you think it could possible fix the problem if we flashed a new kernel and then tried to boot? Can't hurt, right?

You could try the kernel our you could also try wiping just cache and dalvik. I assume you're trying to save the data.

We aren't trying to save the data. We already have a backup. We're trying to get this thing to boot without flashing a new rom or reverting to a backup.

I've got viper one rom and I'm trying to install android revolution hd. I checked the md5 and installed it with TWRP, but when the phone boots and the setup begins the first thing that appears is viper tweaks (from the viper one rom) requesting root access. Once the setup is finished a message appears saying "blinkfeed has stopped working" and then I can do absolutely nothing except power off the phone.
Shouldn't viper be removed when I wipe in TWRP?
Anyone have any idea wtf is going on?
I went from nV RLS 1.1 to RLS 2, clean flash in TWRP. When it booted my same setup was on the screen with everything force closing. I went back into TWRP attempted again, and it was still messed up. Tried to restore a backup, it failed, then TWRP started crashing. I could only get into fastboot.
Anyways, you can read my post in this section. I had to go back to stock, then restore a nandroid.

I actually just downloaded and installed nV RLS 2 with no problems at all.. My problem may related to the Android Revolution HD rom itself.. I'll have try to figure it out another time.
Thanks for your help!
For anyone who's interested I was able to successfully install ARHD to my phone after doing some research. Rather than just doing the standard wipe in TWRP (it wipes delvik, cache, and data) I had to selected "advanced wipe" and wipe system in addition to delvik, cache, and data. I believe this had to do with the htc build version on the phone being outdated but I'm not 100% sure.

+1. I always use advanced wipe in TWRP, and wipe as you indicated. I'm thinking everyone posting here should also indicate which version of TWRP you are using, as that may be an issue as well.

Hi guys, can somebody help me? I received the stagefright update this morning and after downloading it and rebooting, the phone stopped working. It shows the logo animation for a few seconds then the screen goes black. It's a rooted and unlocked phone so i don't know if thats the cause. Also, i can access the recovery mode pressing power and down. Other than that nothing.
If you were rooted and updated ya..the rooting may be the reason
So as you can access the bootloader just flash the stock rom back and you will be done with it..

I always forget how peacefull people with knowledge can be. Thanks mate, will do that.
But, just for curiosity: rooted phones tends to have problems after updates?
Yes It may get error or Somthing Else Thats Why I prefer if a update is avaiable flash back to stock and then proceed
Just a quick update. Flashed stock, worked fine. Thanks all.
Also, sorry for posting under general, i was so worried that i forgot to put this under HELP TROUBLESHOOTING.

Technically, it should not install at all if it's been rooted. It's interesting that Moto has let this slip by.
In the future, if you have made a single change in the system partition...root, build.prop edit....anything...even custom recovery or kernel...you should reflash your current factory image, reboot, then flash your updated factory image. It's VERY IMPORTANT you reboot between flashing one factory image and the next, though. You may have more issues if you don't.

Not if you only flash the system, boot and recovery image files
Recover the factory
I did the update and as mentioned previously on the thread stales after the logo. (bootloader is unlocked)
I can not find my oem backup. I tried twrp on recovery and was able to backup other stuff. Is there a way to generate the OEM so that i can flash or any other roms that are compatible with Moto G 3rd generation?
Try wiping cache, dalvik cache and data with TWRP. Don't use stock recovery for the data wipe or you will lose all the files stored on your internal partition, as well.
Edited the build.prop file by adding 1 line, restarted phone and now I keep getting System UI has stopped message.
Any way I can edit the file to fix my phone?
Have you tried to clear the cache in recovery? If that doesn't work, try a full factory reset.
If the phone is running a stock rom, try flashing just the system.img file in fastboot.
Before doing any of this, make sure you backup your data.

Thank you, I ended up backing up the data and cache via USB, then did a flash of Cataclysm ROM. I'll let you know if it works.
Can I just restore the data ASAP after installation or do I need Google to finish restoring my backup first?
Edit: Well, restored data, stuck with the boot screen loop again, then goes to Android is upgrading... and shows it optimizing 10 apps, and back to the boot logo.
Did the phone boot without restoring data?

No, I made sure it was completed.
Now Play Store keeps quitting when I try to install apps. I can only install specific ones.
I recommend flashing a stock rom to make sure there isn't a hardware problem. Don't restore anything until you are sure the phone works.

So the stock rom works fine?

Yes, thank you.
I don't think I want to do another custom ROM for now.
The stock rom is the best with the bloat taken out .I think the kernel can be improved though. I use EX
The problem is kinda complicated. Previously, I flashed a custom ROM on my phone (a modified version of Oxygen OS). Just now, I updated my phone using the official ROM downloaded from Oneplus's official site (no idea what I was thinking), and I was only able to boot into the stock recovery. So, I tried reinstalling the TWRP recovery. I was able to boot the phone, but upon boot, it would say something like "Settings stopped working" and it would shut down immediately. I tried flashing a couple of different ROMs using the Install option in TWRP, but I still get the same error when booting my phone. Is there anyway to solve this problem? If not, would there be any way for me to recover my files at least?
Go back to factory stock using the MSM tool. If you can get to TWRP you can backup your stuff.

I am able to get to TWRP right now. However, I did noticed that the Data partition in the TWRP Backup option is only 76MB. Does this mean that my data's gone already somehow?
