Just looking for general advice and ideas regarding any solution to this puzzle!
Scenario:
Dell Streak 5, Android 2.2.2, GAUSB1A135100-EU
I've been using Titanium Backup Pro to keep regular backups of the data and apps on it.
Couple of weeks now Android Market was not allowing updates to run, giving the "101 error" etc that other people have posted. Most common solution to this seems to have been do a factory reset, to wipe off the linked gmail account, and recreate to get Market running again.
So I did a TB full backup, factory reset, and recreated my gmail account, and market is back up and running, and now updating the 20+ apps fine.
Problem: My Call Logs, Contacts and Messaging is still wiped, even after I have restore all my data and apps from Titanium Backup.
No, I did not have my contacts, etc synced to gmail, because I don't really use it that much and was concerned about privacy issues.
The question I have is this: Did the full data and app backup I performed on Titanium Backup backup my Contacts and SMS/MMS/Messages? If yes, then why will they not restore? If no, then is there any way to recover or locate them?
I'd like to recover my Messaging section most of all, if possible!

If I'm not mistaken, the SMS messages are under the TB entry named "[SMS/MMS/APN] Mobile Network Configuration" Try double checking you restored the backup for that.

No the data and app backup did not back those up.
@JMC: Thanks for the reply; yeah I've tried doing a restore on any item relating to Contacts, Messaging, SMS/MMS that is coming up in the Restore list under TB, all of which appear as Green items and sometimes with the [] at the start as you indicated.
Unfortunately, none seem to be restoring the messages etc. I've even looked on the microSD card to see if the TB backup files are empty, and they appear to be healthy sizes, so there must be "something" backed up in them....
@Zelendel: Thanks; well if what you say is true, then that is a damn shame. I figured TB would do a more complete job of backing everything up like it promises... bad assumption on my part if you're sure of your information.
I guess I'll see if anyone has a contradicting opinion, and the move on.
I wonder if you have any recommendations on how to backup that stuff for future adventures? Thinking of syncing Outlook with Gmail and then syncing the Streak with Gmail from now on.... mind you that won't secure SMS/MMS correspondence, just my issue of Contacts!
Titanium Backup will backup everything, but you have to make sure you have it backing up system app data if too, because the messaging app for texting is a system app. Regular app and data backup does not backup any system apps. You just have to be careful when restoring system app data. I tried restoring gmail settings to a newer version of gmail and I caused syncing to completely stop working. I haven't had any problems restoring SMS/MMS though.

Yes as stated above. Messaging is a system app so it your backing up user apps and data then it will not back up your messages. Then you get into the issue that unless you flash the excat same rom it is never advised to restore system data of any kind as there could be big changes that restoring system data breaks. I would use a 3rd party app to back it up.
LAst time i backed up all my messages call logs and contacts, was using an app called super backup. Havent found anything wrong with it. Forgot which folder it stores the files in, but after i did factory reset and downloaded the app again, i was able to restore everything. Hope it helps

I realise its probably too late to b answering ur q. But perhaps this cud b of help to u in the future:
TB does backup cal logs, contacts, n msgs if u choose to backup sys data. And generally, after doing a restore u need to reboot ur fone for the data to b back again.
It's that simple . And do remember nvr to use backup n restore of sys data unless u r going to b using the exact same ROM b4 n after!

Then it isn't advisable to restore system data from TB as
it can cause sync issues or even break certain system functionalities.
So, in the case that you're planning to use a different ROM, I'd recommend that you backup your call logs, messages on this app called SMS Backup & Restore by Carbonite. Thru this you can restore on any ROM thereafter.
When I was rooting my phone I backed up my contacts and apps through google sync. But when I put the apps back on my phone all my information or history with the app is now gone. Is there anything that when you back up and install it again it's as if it never went away (i.e. game data, purchase history, or workout logs)
Titanium Backup, ROM Manager, or any other such apps. Go Backup explicitly lets you back up contacts and wifi and such, but requires that you pay for it.
Yes, Titanium Backup for sure. You can backup and restore app data.
Sorry if I'm still a bit unclear. So I use the app to back up data. Then when installing a new rom you always do a full wipe. Were does the backup data get stored? If it's the SD card should I remove it before I do a full wipe?

edit: so I put the new rom on my sd, did a full wipe, installed the new rom, then everything started updating awesome. I'm guessing it just detects the backup and just restores it. Back to my previous question, does this data get stored on my SD? If so does that mean I could take another phone that's rooted put in my SD and essentially have 2 phones that are the same?
Even though titanium backup restored all my apps that I had on my phone, all my app history was not restored. (i.e. fitness buddy, angry birds, SMS, google now cards) is there an extra step to get the app history or is it lost forever?

TiBu on an unrooted phone only backs up apps, not data.

You have to backup app + data. You picked the option to only backup the app. Unless you did backup data but only chose the option to restore apps. Go to the option to restore app data and see if there are any numbers by it. If so restore the data. If no numbers then no data was backed up.

Thank you so much (clicks "Thanks" button) when the phone booted up for the first time it just restored everything I don't remember being prompted for anything. I went back into TB and did app+data and everything returned. :victory:
There are several Points in Titanium Backup - which of them contain the Accounts for VOIP data, which I want to recovery from my CM12.1 to my CM13 backup?
Where are the Account data for my Google Account?
I guess in both cases I just have to recover the data, not the app - right?
Did you ever figure this out? Also wondering whether Titanium Backup can save/restore the SIP (VOIP) accounts.

So I've set Google Backup on and left it to sync for 24 hours, then signed out, side loaded the Nougat OTA, reset and erase and wiped the cache partition, then signed back in and no settings nor apps or anything downloaded even though I asked Google setup to pull from a backup.
I'll be rooting the Nexus 6P soon, but for non rooted handsets, what are people using to backup and restore? Or what methods if they're just using the Google Backup sync process?

Home screen wallpapers
Gmail settings
Apps installed through Google Play (backed up on the Play Store app)
Display settings (Brightness & Sleep)
Language & Input settings
Date & Time

From this I can say that none of your app data (e.g. game data) is backed up and none of your apps are too, instead a list is created so that when you set up your device you can choose to download your apps again.

Hello, I've had the oneplus 8T for 2.5 years now. For a week now I have rooted it again, after 2 years ago. So I did a backup until today with the oneplus app. And I manually uploaded it to the cloud.
So I'm looking for an app that can backup apps, data, SMS, call logs, contacts, settings and the layout of folders on the phone's desktop. And of course the application can upload the backup to the cloud. To be able to have the scheduling option.
I did some research on my own and discovered the Following, but I need your help.
Swift Backup:
Backup apps, data, call logs, contacts, sms.
Stores the backup in the storage and in the cloud.
I also discovered Neobackup, Titanium Backup and Backup rom. Can you write me what are the differences between them? Because I haven't understood...
I read somewhere that Neobackup is the best but it does not backup call logs, sms, contacts. And it doesn't upload to the cloud either.
Note, the comments I read about swift, it was 2022. So I want answers with the latest versions of these apps.
Swift Backup is the best overall
kaskander​TWRP/OrangeFox backups whole device partitions (like /system or /data) with everything inside them.
By restoring this backup you can revert your whole device (android version and your data) to the state on the time of backup.
Apps like swift, titanium, neo backup, backup your apps and their settings, also you can try to backup system apps settings to restore layout of folders (lancher app settings backup).
Titanium backup was once a gold standard of android backup apps, but as it is not being developed since 2019, it can't handle split apks and doesn't work very well with the latest android versions. So it can still be used, but not recommended.
Swift backup works well with the latest android versions, you can choose to backup your apps and data locally or on google drive or something similar. If you backup your apps in the cloud you can easily access those backups from another phone and restore them.
Backup files are encrypted too and app is proprietary one.
Neo-backup, as far as i understool does everything as Swift backup, and is open sourced.
