FoxFi wifi tethering for Verizon Unlimited Data - Verizon LG G5 Questions & Answers

UPDATE MARCH/31/2016 : It has been confirmed to work on Verizon LG G5.

I too would like to know this. After a little research, it looks like it works on the G4 and V10, so chances are it will work on the G5. Let's hope!

From bestbuy or verizon? I haven't even received shipping confirmation from bestbuy

Not sure , I saw somebody has a verizon LG G5 posted on swappa. So I am assuming a few who pre orderd, have received their phone.

So far I'm liking it, but I'm coming from a rooted S4, so anything is amazing compared to that. The build quality feels really good to me; feels solid and has a little weight to it. I'm also liking the metal back, it isn't as slippery as the plastic on my s4 or the glass on the new samsung phones. Everything seems to work smoothly and you can uninstall, not disable a lot of the bloatware (games). I also like the soft navigation buttons, because LG included the option to rearrange them and even bring down the notifications without moving your hand to the top of the phone.
The only thing that will take me a while to get used to is the lack of the app drawer and how it organizes the icons. I created a new page for my music widgets and when you have the phone organize the icons if you moved them around (I like them alphabetized) it will pile all the icons around your widgets, except on the first page. I'll give it a try for a few days, then might goto nova launcher.
Overall though, the phone is awesome. I've been messing with it nonstop for 2.5 hours now. It started with 25% battery and is down to 15 now. It hasn't had a charge yet, so the percentages are going to be off until it learns the battery.

After switching from my Galaxy S4 to my LG G5 2 weeks ago, I'm impressed with the speed and general stability /reliability of the G5. While I ordered the external charging bay+spare battery I really haven't needed them as often as I did with the Galaxy S4. While Foxfi has continued to allow me to tether on my VS987 Verizon G5 until I get it rooted, sometimes it acts odd and changes the SSID from the one I set to a foxfi numbered one. Also, my microwave kills the Hotspot when it's running. If I had the ability to change the Hotspot channel or, even better, switch to 5ghz, I could avoid the interference. This is my primary reason I'm hoping for root ability soon and monitoring those threads. Good experience overall thus far, eagerly waiting for the improvement possibilities root will bring

Verizon Unlimited data/ FOXfi
I have been using Foxfi for a long time and also have had unlimited data with verizon for even longer and even with the newest android update (15A I think it is) it still works great, though I have noticed that there are times that it fails to activate but if you try again it still fires up right away.

Me and my S6 " The love hate love relationship"

I've always had an android phone. My love relationship with them started with Verizon and the Moto Droid. Needless to say flashing roms and rooting phones is part of the reason I but phones.
I'm not a big fan of the progressive size increase in cell phones, but I owned a fee large phones. My wife got and iphone 6 dividing our house a few months ago and while I would not get an iPhone, I marvelled at how is was small and manageable. Yet able to perform any task and take great pictures.
So I sold MY white LG g3 to get a blue 64gb S6. I rooted it immediately and it was quite impressive. It offered all of the things I like about the iPhone 6 and a great fingerprint scanner. I have two young boys and a selfish obsessed wife and the cameras on this phone are great. So great my wife takes pictures with my phone when we are out.
One day I decide I want a white S6. So I purchased one on Swappa.com and sold mine there as well. I confirmed that it still had a root able version of lollipop, but when I get the phone the seller upgraded the phone the day he shipped it. So I tried to rock with the unrootable S6 checking everyday to see if OF1 version of lollipop had been rooted. I hated the phone. For anyone that is stuck with a S6 on stock OF1, I understand your pain. In my opinion Samsung is losing money because of restrictions on the stock version of this phone. So I'm currently selling that phone on Swappa.com for reasonable price.
I went and purchased a gold 64gb S6 and it came rooted and the feel if the phone is night and day. The speed it just how I remember the phone a drunken my battery life is sick. With stock OF1 I would only average 11-14 hours with maybe 2-3 hours of screen time. This is my first day with the rooted s6 and I'm currently at 11 hours and 2 hours of screen time with a few restarts to flash different themed items and I still have over 40% of battery life left.
My recommendation is that of you love the form factor of this phone and everything else it has to offer and you are stuck on OF1 version of lollipop, sell your phone to get a root able version of the s6. You will practically break even with the swap.

I've been thinking of selling my rooted S6 so I can leave Verizon. I didn't see any other White 64GB S6s that were rooted on Swappa so I wonder if there's a decent demand.
I love almost e everything about the phone and it is rooted the biggest main issue i have is it lags alot for me. Yes i have a decent amount of apps but my m8 is set up exactly the same and it doesn't lag at all even with just 2 gigs of ram. And my other issues which this is mainly because of verizon is development is almost not there. I am grateful for the roms we do have but it still takes away from the phone for me somewhat.

I HATE my s6. The cell reception is fine, I'm lucky enough to be rooted as well, but this thing is junk IMO. Don't get me wrong, the camera is ok and it was the primary reason to get this phone. I use it daily for pictures and it performs pretty well actually. The fingerprint reader works pretty fast most of the time as well, but I would absolutely 100% not buy this phone again or recommend it to anyone else. Even during pictures this thing is hot and battery life is unimpressive. Yes wireless charging is included, but once again super hot while charging as well.
Battery life got much better after root and the screen is amazing, but I'm jumping ship here in a few months, I actually consider it a downgrade from my LG G2 except for the camera
I miss my HTC ONE M8. Totally rootable, totally customizable. Love the specs on the S6, but Verizon is making a huge mistake locking their phones down. It's the antithesis of Android, Linux, and open source in general.

Yea I guess I should of clarified on that one, it was a long day
-The lack of a removable battery is a killer. My battery drain is pretty serious and needs charging throughout the day. Eventually I will need to swap that battery....
-My two S6s have both lagged from day 1. Removing bloatware helped but still laggy. Have to clear our app caches once a week or so.
-The camera lens is elevated from the back of the phone and makes it not lay flat well. Not a biggie, but annoying.
-Touchwiz.... I hoped we would have CM by now or something close but its a big setback.
Most of the other issues I have are software related and would be fine when/if we can unlock the bootloader. I've come to learn over the years that a waterproof phone is a big advantage here in Florida too, my gf's old S5 was actually just used during the last flood we had and was great. I guess I agree with the OP, it is a love/hate, just mine is more hate than love.

I agree with the camera lens. I like cases but hate that I need a case to protect that.
My battery gets me through and average day. But that is always a user experience. I can see how it wouldn't be enough for many users.
I've never hated it but there are days where I am less impressed than others. Where TouchWiz shows its ugly side. Hopefully whenever you get next works out better for you

Yea it seems so I'm only stuck with it for a few more months and the gf and I are both bailing. Its a shame too because these phones are damn sexy too lol. Right now I'm stocked up on wireless chargers and have them strategically placed around work and home and it seems to be working out ok. Its not too terrible since there are no plugs to charge.
Came from a rooted s4 with xposed to the g6 and I feel lost. The g6 gets good battery life and works just fine but I am having major Bluetooth issues between that and sync for my car that I never had with the s4. I will do better research before making my next purchase. I don't care how good the camera is etc... If the boot loader is locked down I will purchase a different phone. Not everyone wants to use samsungs bloat ware. Also if I want to turn the volume up and blow my ear drums out I don't need a visible warning to appear telling me I might do that....I can hear just fine Samsung....

I'm pretty sure the BT is a known issue. Does anyone know if the update fixes that? I know I cant get more than 5m or so from my phone before it cuts out. I used to get almost double that with my G2. I agree with you on the headphones warning too lol. Almost as bad is the Verizon crap it tries to install each time you hook it up to a computer. I flashed the fix but it sure was annoying waiting on root first. Guess we can blame V for the bloatware too.

Would you still recommend Galaxy S7?

Hi there,
I'm in the market to buy a new phone and teh S7 is on top of my list. I waited a little to see what problems arise in the first month after launch. I see some problems with front facing camera and rear facing camera video. After using this phone for 30 days would you still buy it or recommend it to someone like me. I had a LG G4 that i really liked but it had some small screen problem so I returned it. The LG G4 is half the price of te S7. In these condition would you still buy the S7? Please argue you answer.
Samsung galaxy s7 have many new features coming one of them is android marshmallow. The other hidden features you are not aware of like:
- Screen Lock Shortcuts
- Set up Gear VR
- Samsung Pay
- Motion Photo Option
- change the icon backgrounds
- Always On Display Option
After getting all these features i definitely recommend you to buy this phone.
I have the Exynos S7 and this is the best phone I've had.
The battery is great (getting 2 days minimum on a charge).
The camera is great although it has a (very) bad tendency to over-sharpen.
Touchwiz is very slimmed down and its performance is flawless.
The 4gb of ram are very useful and I've rarely (if ever) seen apps reloading when switching between recent apps.
What I don't quite like is the design - very slippery and smudgy - I don't recommend ever using it without a case. Coming from an S4, for me it's also a bit on the heavy side.
I'm ~2 weeks in and at this point I'd make the same decision again. I was hesitant to have a phone without root but so far my fears where unfounded. There are a few things I miss but nothing major.
3 weeks in coming from an LG G3 and no regrets. Best smartphone I've had yet.
I have the S7E. Pretty close to each other. It's a pho e with no compromises. Software is fast and fluid. Camera rocks, though it tends to overshapen but still impressive quality. Battery life for days. I cant tell you any flaws with it at this point.
Battery life alone is worth it. Came from an s5.

I'll second this. I've only had rooted phones since the original droid and I was pretty worried about not having V4A, quick unlock, and add blocking. So far, the only thing I've really missed is add blocking but I'm still totally happy with the phone.

Have you given Adguard a try? I've come to like it enough I purchased it. Just be sure to disable battery optimization on it until (if?) they can get that bit fixed. They have new versions on the way which should be even better.

No, I haven't. I looked into some non-root ad blockers a week or two ago (don't remember if this was one of them), and they all had pretty terrible reviews.
I'll give Adguard a try though. Thanks for the recommendation.

For the full version it is not cheap, but worth it to me as I was getting REALLY annoyed by all the ads in apps.
You can check out there progress @ https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardForAndroid.
Try adguard available on their site and not via Google play for obvious reasons.

Edit: I forgot to mention I wish the DAC allowed for more headphone volume.

Yeah, I was indeed referring to the materials. I really hate this all-glass trend. All metal or at least plastic back would have been more to my liking.

Just download Adguard, click on buy premium and then change the currency to russian rubel.
Now you can buy a lifetime licence for around 4€.
Adguard works like any adblocker on a rooted devices (only the little key symbol is annoying)
You can get rid of the symbol by using tasker and only activating Adguard while the use of Chrome/Apps with Ads
After this little investement I don't miss root at all

Then only start adguard while having chrome/ app with ads open.

Opinions and help on lg v10 watch purchase? What works with it?

Curiosity killed the cat I guess and I'm finally looking to get a smartwatch ASAP. I'm a female with a decent sized wrist, so I think I can get away with the bigger watches if needed. Let me know if I posted this in the wrong forum. Its been a while since I've logged on. I went to the dark side for a bit and went to an iphone with Verizon (Samsung went stupid getting rid of sd card support on their s6 and my hubs s5 was too glitchy for me to go to, thus the dark side and leaving my old note4 ) before finally switching to ATT and getting a V10 and back on android.
I'm torn on if I should try out the LG Watch Urbane 2 or if I should try a Samsung Gear S2 Classic or if I should look at something like the 2nd gen Moto 360.
I tend to not do great with silicone-like products (yay allergies) so the band on the LG Urbane 2 has me concerned but everything else about it seems to be ok.
On the Samsung side, I worry about compatibility and being able to use its features well. However, I love the bezel on it and the ability to change out watch bands.
What about the moto 360 second gen?
I want to be able to track my distance pretty easily, (even with the phone) when I go running, and I want to have notifications as I need them. I want the dang thing to work with the v10, I'm hearing mixed reviews about this phone playing nice with others. I also want a pretty decent battery life to go 12-16 hours when needed.
Help, ideas recommendations before I drop a pretty penny on this device? Also, would you go for the ones that connect to a carrier or just through the phone and no carrier involvement?
Thanks folks!
CMMELTON2
bump please?
I can't offer any input at all on the smartwatch area, don't have one, and actually don't know anyone with one (although, I'm starting to get an interest). I do have a BT headset and I've also paired it to 3-4 different car BT connections without issue either. So I haven't experienced any connectivity issues, if that helps at all
As far as the V10? I think it's a great device. I've been very happy with mine(AT&T). The development end has been very very slow going, due to lock down so if you are really interested in custom ROMS, there might be something available for T-Mo, but with the locked bootloaders on AT&T/Verizon custom ROMS are going to be really hard if not impossible to get.
That aside, I can typically get 4 maybe 5 hours screen on time. Admittedly, the battery on my Note 3 was much better, but I actually like the V10 better than the Note 3. (I'd also had Sam devices since the Captivate/2010'ish) so the change was very welcome
I have been looking at Smartwatches for quite some time. I wanted to get the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition when it first came out, but it got pulled before I could buy one. So I started to look into others. The Gear S2 was the only other one that grabbed my interest. Having the ability to make and take calls and to text and basically be untethered to my phone is what I want. If you have an LG phone and go with the Gear S2, you lose a lot of that. Now that the LG Watch is back on the market, I have preordered it and will be getting it in the mail tomorrow. I can't wait to try it out. I will let you know how it is, but I can tell you this, since you are in the LG ecosystem, I would heavily consider the LG Watch as you will have better results. Also, this watch was first designed to work with the V10 so that is a major plus for me.
Thanks for the replies. Let me know how you like that LG watch 2 for sure. My biggest worry is that I will wind up allergic to the band. That and I'm not thrilled with them only getting black this round and no option to change the bands out.
I did not know that the watch was designed to work with the v10. That's a huge plus.
I hope the battery and fitness options on it works.
Anyone with opinion on moto 360 2nd gen or if I should try one without a carrier involved.

Yea, that's the one I am looking at. The only thing is ATT only offers it in black with no plans for others anytime soon and I'm worried if the band is something I'm allergic to then I'm SOL when trying to switch out bands because its not allowed.

By the way, in response to your other post, I love the LG V10. I'm a little peeved that there isn't as many products that are compatible with the phone compared to iphone or samsung, but the ability to not be as afraid of dropping my phone and only keeping a clear case and glass screen protector on it is great.
As for the custom roms, when I had the early droid motorolas and all of the samsungs, I felt the absolute need to customize and throw on roms. Plus, VZ and ATT are horrible about bloat. On the v10, I feel like I can actually use my phone regardless of bloat and there is no horrible touchwiz hell. The need to root and customize the rom is low in this device which is a first for me with android.

Yea no kidding. My plans to go out an about today went to hell after that hit. I really don't want to explain why i have a swollen eye and eyelid with bruising all around it today to every one I see. Make up isn't covering it and as a female I really don't need a bunch of people thinking the worst.
Go figure my girl doesn't hurt or have any pain from it, she's got a hard head like her daddy.
Does anyone else have an opinion on a watch before I spend awful amounts of money on a smartwatch in the AM?

V20 review, kind of. Came from Note 7.

Well, here's my thoughts. I've been with Samsung exclusively for a while now. Last non Samsung phone I had was the HTC Evo 3d. Loved that phone. I had the Galaxy s3, the note 3, the s6 edge plus, then the note 7.
First, there is no denying that the Samsung is sexier than the v20. There's really no contest there. The all glass/metal construction of the Samsungs is beautiful. When I got the recall notice for the 2nd time my initial plan was to say "never Samsung again". My coworker had a n7 too, and swapped for a S7 Edge. I held the phone and absolutely loved the look and feel of it. I regretfully decided to give Sam one more chance. I called around to every tmo in Charlotte and finally found one that had two s7e in Stock. My wife also had a n7, we pretty much always have the same flagship device.
We drove across town to get it, and the rep informed me that would have to pay 180 down for EACH new device. I protested saying there is no way in hell I'm paying as multiple tmo reps told me I could just come in and swap, but he wouldn't budge. I left furious.
After calming down I decided to call tmo and just order the two s7e. The rep told me I'd have to go the store again, ugh.... I explained the entire story to her and she took mercy on me saying she would just send the phones to me no money down and I could just return the n7s to my local store. Thank God.
Then she tells me the s7e is on backorder until Nov 28th. This wasn't acceptable. Then it hit me: the universe was pushing me towards LG. I asked if we could just pre-order two v20, and she said of course. We even get the cool headphones.
That was Monday. We received the new phones Wednesday (9 days before launch, nice touch tmo!) and immediately opened them up.
Now, I've never had an LG phone before. Maybe before smart phones, but never a smart LG. So being that I was so accustomed to Samsung I'll admit I was a little disappointed when I first held the phone. It just wasn't quite as "sexy" as the note 7 was. Not even close, really.
But, after using it for a day, I've come to a few conclusions. First, the design on the v20 is much more "industrial", and I don't mean that in a bad way. It definitely feels much sturdier than the Samsungs, and though it's a trade off on looks, it's a win on functionality.
The software, I quickly learned, is the undeniably faster than the n7. I had such a hard time admitting to myself when I had the note that a 900 dollar flagship could be laggy, but It really was. I've been using Samsung so long I apparently grew accustomed to the lag. This is NOT the case with the LG. Even with all my apps installed (and I have a lot) it's not laggy in the least bit. Again, you trade off some of the sexiness of TouchWiz, but get more functionality.
A removable battery? What a novel idea. It's been years since I've had one. This means of course that the phone isn't completely sealed, which again trades sexiness for functionality.
The only thing that really disappointed me was the lack of water resistance. That was a feature I was truly excited about on the Sam, because I love taking photos and the prospect of pulling out my cam in the pouring down rain was a cool one. So one strike there.
I thoroughly enjoyed the "always on" display of the note 7. Functionally wise, the second screen for the LG does the same, in fact more. I'm still getting used to it, but I really love being able to access things like flashlight and settings instantly. This is definitely not a gimmick to me.
The screen? Jury's out for me on that one. The note 7 was absolute dropping, but it's not like the LG is a slouch. I mean really guys, 2k on any screen this small is going to look amazing. I do miss those amoled blacks, though. I'll admit that.
What will TRULY make this phone amazing for me though is if we find out the bootloader is unlocked. I regret deeply that I haven't been able to root my last 3 phones because Samsung keeps everything knoxed up so tight. If I can root and start installing custom ROMs, I'll be like a fat little prick in a snickers factory. I'll be quite happy.
Android 7 is exactly what I expected, amazing.
I can't believe I actually considered iPhone after the n7 debacle. I read reviews from lifelong Android users that switched to iPhone and they all said after a month they were begging for their Androids back. I'm so deeply ingrained in Googles ecosystem that it wouldn't have been feasible. Not to mention my entire smart home/entertainment pretty much requires I have android.
I hope this will help someone decide.
Oh, one other thing, I LOVE that LG included a IR blaster on this phone. It's something so simple but I LOVE being able to turn my TV on and off from my phone. Well done LG!

But there is something that people either dont know, or dont understand. Touchwiz interface is mainly a launcher with few other things added to the UI. (settings and camera look). But the launcher part, it can be easily fixed. Just download the TouchWiz launcher and you are good to go! you have the launcher in the play store, and it will definitely work on the LG V20
Good point! I'm more of a Nova / Google now launcher guy, depends on how I'm feeling. But an excellent tip for those on the fence!
Well here's my thoughts. I've had the phone for about 6 hours now and I haven't put it down. Its extremely light and fits in my hands perfectly. As stated above its not as sleek as the n7, but ill be throwing this in a case soon so that's not an issue for me.
Pros...its fast. Zero lag. The audio is phenomenal in my opinion. The audio volume is high too, you don't want to turn it all the way up with headphones.
I really like the dual screen. I like to have notices pop up and I like flipping between a ps.
Downside...its not a blazingly crisp screen. Its like the note 4...a step behind the note 5.
Its going to take some getting used to having all your apps on the screens instead of an app drawer. Its a pain to find apps because I don't know how to alphabetically sort them.
That's the worst I can mention
Batter life is ok so far...it is slow to charge though. I've charged it twice about 40% each.
Hoping we are bootloader unlocked. If we get that I'd give this phone 5 stars.

I hate when people say this. TouchWiz is the entire UI, apps, and framework, the launcher is just one aspect of it. Yes you can replace the launcher but that doesn't make the device not run TouchWiz.

Lol i never said you would get the whole TouchWiz package. I said "Only the launcher part", I know TouchWiz is more than just the launcher , settings and camera interface as i said. However, since the V20 is not a samsung , there is no way you can get the full TouchWiz package, only the launcher. And people will have to adjust to that like it or not. Its either keep the phone or go back to samsung

thank you so much for this. this is just what i needed
Exactly what I wanted to hear!
I am coming from a S7E and that phone itself is literally a bad ass electronic device.
The reason I am upgrading is....i dont know really, my addiction to smartphones? I guess it dwells down to wanting to have the latest OS update honestly. And the only two phones that are running it out the box happen to be TWO very awesome devices.
The reason why I went with the V20 over the PIXEL XL are because of availability mostly. But then I started to think, the option to remove the battery and expand storage is a plus! So I am not too concerned with my decision.
Things that I was on the fence about, Camera and screen quality. I guess I can live with having second best in both of those categories. As long as it isnt the worst then I can accept it.
Cant wait to receive this baby, I have two cases waiting already. WOOHOO!
Oh, I also tried the IPhone 7 route. I thought maybe I could finally sway away from Android since Apple has finally made a no compromise phone...wrong. The hardware is fantastic...but Apple doesnt do notifications and other small tasks as well as Android. I returned the device after 12 days of use. The Jet Black paint also scratched in that time frame. Glad I will be back on an Android.
Came from an S7E(also own a HTC 10)and man is it way faster. You mentioned the Note 7 was laggy the S7E was laggy as hell for me and I owned three different ones. Here are some quick observations.
-Battery life is great especially on Standby(thanks in part to Nougat's new doze)
-The Screen is not bad as some people say. It looks great, yes it's not Amoled but Blacks look suprisingly good.
-At night there is light bleed from the second screen that is very noticeable
-Sound is Killer on this, surpasses the HTC 10 which also has great audio
-No waterproof sucks, didn't know I would miss this
-My only quirk with the Software is the settings menu. I reccomend changing the theme to the High Contrast theme and also changing the DPI size
But ya Great Phone, haven't had a chance to test out the rear camera, but from what I can tell the front camera is only meh
Is it just me or is the fingerprint sensor on this wayyyyy better than the Note7? It seems to get my finger every single time (even when it's not on there that well). The Note7 would struggle a lot and say it didn't get it. Like others, I'm not too crazy about the placement of it but I'm sure it'll grow on me with use. Just not used to it yet. Having the option for a "knock code" while the screen is off is really nice and makes up for it. I will agree I liked the amoled screen on the Note better but it's not that big of a deal to me. I feel like I'm in the minority but I actually liked the look of the edge screen and how it made the profile of the phone smaller. Yes, the functionality of it was really gimmicky but it made it look nice. Overall I'm happy with this phone so far though.

No the fingerprint reader is as it should be on any phone. Super fast and accurate. The Note7 one was crap and an embarrassment for that phone. The Note 7 had so many little flaws that I am glad it went into flames. Seriously. The fingerprint reader on the Nexus 6P was similar to the V20 one. When I got my note 7 I was so disappointed: It was slow, inaccurate and you physically had to press the key which was just stupid.

Seriously though. This smartphone is getting better and better for me everyday. I have 65 apps (USER APPS ) installed and many of then constantly synch, and the battery could easily last for more than 2 days if i dont use it alot . (I said easily, so it means it could be even more)
I was one of the ones that stitched to an iPhone after being an Android user since the G1. I lasted 6 months before I was back to Android. If Apple opened up the API then I could deal with it but simple tasks I took for granted on Android were hard to accomplish on iOS. That being said, I use an iPad because I think iOS has Android beat on tablets.

returning the LGv20...

I feel like this phone is a great phone for a small audience.. And that's for music lovers.. Other than that this phone is actually pretty bad... The camera is useless with all the grain.. The screen is horrible at night it bleeds out so much.. The UI is disgusting.. And OMG THE LAG IS ABSURD.. How they released a phone thats constatly lagging..
Tbh very disappointed I have never returned a phone in my life. And I buy almost every phone that's release... Now I have no option to switch to iphone 7 until I can find a pixel xl for a good deal...

Is this a joke? This phone is smooth as butter especially compared to the v10, you're either running it with a poorly performing sdcard or you've got a defect.
UI is disgusting? What it's like every other freaking phone. There are plenty of 3rd party launchers to change it as you see fit.
Camera I am unsure of since I haven't really used it much yet but I am sure its not horrible like you're claiming.
Either way good luck with whatever phone you choose next. I am being sincere if my phone was like that I'd change too but mine has been good so far.

Don't take this the wrong way. I'm just explaining my experience owning the phone since October so that you have more info about its capability.
Are you on a stock phone?
The rooting process and custom roms have allowed Dev's to fix many of the issues that existed on stock.
Lag? Mine is fast as sh*t. I came from the note 4 with one of the best custom roms (tx_dbs_tx) and this phone is much faster.
I'm on OvrDrive's rom and couldn't be happier. The latest update has the camera working faster and taking exceptional pictures. Better than my note 4.
Yes, the screen is not a sammy. When we are able to integrate kcal it will be close. I had kcal on an early rom version that really made the screen look good. Unfortunately, we have had problems with modifying the kernel, but I believe it is only a matter of time until it can be done safely.
I'm using a custom theme which looks great, especially at night. I don't spend a lot of time looking at my phone in a pitch black room, so I rarely see the bleed. This is the price you pay for a second screen, which I really like. I wouldn't trade the second screen for a phone without the second screen just to lose the bleed which I only see .01% of the time.
I got my wife an S7 edge. It is stock. Other than the great sammy screen, there is nothing that would make me consider trading my V20. I have so much more control over my phone than hers and can do much more.
If you are on stock, then maybe that is the problem. Rooted with a custom rom is great. If you aren't willing to go down that road, then, yes you should switch.

I am rooted. I have had the phone for about 10 days. I am on weta rom.. Is just I feel like this phone is phone is not the android experience I am used to.. I used the s7edge as well and did not like it either.. I am more of stock android. And I am starting to realize why people refuse to use anything but stock android.. I have had zero used for the second screen yeah it looks nice and I can see someone use it. But not me.. And the camera is. Really bad like dammed I think the nexus 6p takes netter pics. Selfies look like you have makeup.. Even with beauty turned off. AGAIN THIS IS MU EXPERIENCE.. Is my device defective?. Idk but highly doubt it.
I understand with the camera. I came from the v10 (also tmobile) and I can't figure out why the camera on the v20 takes such blurry/water color grainy what ever you call it pictures sometimes. Still hoping it's a software fix because the hardware is there. Should be at least as good as the v10 if not better... And it's not.
As for lag, I don't get it. Mine was smooth and fast for a while but now it lags sometimes. Open a text and count to 5 while I wait to see when it feels like actually popping up.
Sometimes I'm typing and waiting for the letters to pop up.
Ugh.
I wonder if it could be blamed on my SD card... It's the 200gb card that came with the v10.
I use SwiftKey keyboard. Never had a problem with lag before so I don't think it's the keyboard's fault.
My v10 was doing the same thing with the stock text messaging app and it wasn't even set to save anything so I don't think it had to do with large files or anything.
I set it up as new so I didn't bring a bunch of junk from my other phone and I don't really have all that many apps. I don't use the Facebook app and I don't have any problems at all with battery draining. The battery is awesome!
But I do wish I could figure out the lag. It doesn't make any sense that it should take so much time to open up my text messages. I would be tempted to blame it on the fact that I told it not to delete them anymore but like I said, the V10 was doing it and that one was deleting everything all the time!
I have costumized every aspects to get as close as to what I am used to and no luck at all.. I really tried to give this phone shot.. But just not for me..

Ok, I get it. But why not give OrvDrive's rom a try since you are rooted? Can't hurt. His rom has the least complications of the others, not to bash them in any way. I appreciate the effort of all devs and know that behind the scene they are working together to some degree.
If you do find a better new phone, let me know. I might switch too.

Well good luck man hope it all works out for you. The no external memory support and the ridiculous price point for the pixel is why I didn't choose it.
To be honest I would not be using the v20 if a workable modern Samsung Note were out but we are about 6 months out for that and my v10 got the dreaded boot loop so I had to have a phone. Pixel is too expensive for what it offers, Apple is a scumbag company that I absolutely do not support and the s series from samsung doesn't interest me.
I am a big fan of removable batteries too despite not really using a phone long enough to need to replace the battery but I love aftermarket battery packs. LG is the only one to offer this and it looks like it might be the final high end model to feature this (the g6 looks to be water proof)

I was skeptical about the pixel.. But I'll tell you this..just the pure android and smoothness of a pixel phone alone is worth it.. I had never run into a single issue with that phone. Always butter smooth and never had a fc on any apps

Camera great?. I s voted one of the worst camera of 2017 based on consumer..
Not sure why you think the camera takes poor quality pictures. This was taken with the wide angle camera (which most people think is generally terrible) in super low light, in situations where most phones would fail.
I'm also not sure what's bad about the UI? There are now a dozen or so themes that theme the actual system ui, and a trillion different launchers to theme your icons and app launcher.
No lag here. Over 60 user apps installed.
I use the second screen all the time for the quick flashlight access and for controlling Play Music when the phones docked in my car.
Your phone is either a dud, or you've got an app rampaging in the background somewhere.
Edit: ignore my broken TV. It somehow was cracked while wall mounting, and we handled it like it was the world's most valuable but brittle gem stone.
The second screen is practically a requirement for me after a year with the v10, the music controls without turning on the phone is such a fantastic feature along with the quick function shortcuts.
I am going to definitely miss it if the v series turns into a non removable battery phone or the note 8 grabs my attention.

Honestly, just learn how to root it. It fixes every problem you have and more.

If I can't root a phone I don't want it lol.
Also, maybe its the ROM your using, there are a lot of factors that play a part.
