Nano sim card slot - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

Just replaced my sim card slot after killing it with a sim card adapter.
That got me thinking. Would be awfully nice to be able to replace the regular sim card reader with a nano version instead of the default micro version.
Haven't seen one anywhere and I doubt that they exist but.. I figured I'd check and see if anyone's ever seen one?
Since my main phone (Nexus 6) and most newer phones use nano sims it would be nice to not have to fiddle with adapters (and risk ruining the reader again..).

Sims now come pre-cut in all 3 sizes. You just pop out the size you need.
Doing modifications to the phone is bound to cause more trouble. How did you even manage to break the sim slot?

Sure, but that doesn't really help if you want to switch between phones alot.
After I broke mine I checked around and apparently it's quite common. The small springs in the card reader gets stuck in the tiny gaps in between the sim and the adapter.
Here's some examples for instance: http://www.androidcentral.com/warning-using-sim-adapter-incorrectly-brings-down-world-hate
The replacement reader was dirt cheap and really easy to replace so that wasn't a problem really.
Some days I just feel like using a smaller phone while others I prefer my bigger Nexus. It'd be nice to just be able to move the sim without having to use an adapter.

Doubt we will ever see a nano sim reader on a phone that has been discontinued by many carriers.

You're probably right. It would've been nice if some third party were to make one.

anyone have the Universal Digital Dual Sim adapter?

I mean this one....
http://www.2-phones-in-1.com/english/products/universal_digital_dual_sim_II_us.htm
Id like to try this software on my dual sim, just because I can
if so, PM me
I would suggest you send your sims to them to be cut by their machine, I destroyed 2 sims. Other people have reported success, it says on instructions that the metal on sim should not be cut, on many sims there is no chance of it fitting without cutting the metal tabs. I threw mine in the bin, that doesnt mean its no good though.
mine worked fine, cutting went perfect
Yeah, I've used a cut up dual sim with a UK 02-uk Contract and orange PAYG sims. Some people said the O2 doesn't work: I had no trouble.
I very much hope you're note paying 37 euro for it: I got mine for £1.75 from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6415916094&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT
However, note that the STK menu is something special: it's a menu that gets loaded up when you load a program called "sim toolkit" built into most phones. Then you can choose your line. The one I bought doesn't have this, you go to flight mode on, flight mode off and it'll switch lines.
Cutting the sims requires a careful hand. Get them cut by machine if you can (the guy i got them from will cut them) but you get templates that you should follow carefully with fine scissors and you shouldn't go wrong.
The instructions say that you DO cut the metal tabs on the SIM, there's no other way, but that does not damage to the sim itself. But be careful, practice and try them one by one - you have something called a "Resume card" that is basically a holder for one of the tiny mini-sims. Try this with each cut sim individually to ensure they work, before putting them in the metal tray. I used a nokia to test.
Don't forget to REMOVE THE PLASTIC TEMPLATE. Jeez, this was so obvious but once you've nervously cut the sim up, you'll forget the transparent guide sticker is still on them. Remove this obviously!
In the Magician it took a lot of messing about to get the phone to recognise both sims, because I think there's not much pressure on the back of the sim in the phone's holder. I stuck a little bit of paper down the back of the metal slide to apply some pressure.
It does work, just persevere!
Vijay
PS I read via google that the STK software drains battery faster. I'm sure it wouldn't, but one review said it did? It's not much more effort.
PPS Don't use a sim copier if you're in the UK (eg 16 in 1). It'll destroy your SIMs, they're not compatible here.

[Q] Second Micro SD Storage?

Hi all hope to have my Raphael next week sometime.
I have been looking at the specs and user manual and have a question
Is it possible to store a second Micro SD card ontop of the sim card under the battery cover?
If you have a Touch Pro and can confirm this for me I would be thankful.
As per image there seems to be some space on top of the SIM card
Thanks
Jules
i just checked, and i cant find any space big enough to fit the card .
The space u describe is just a little too small, so the card does not fit and the cover can not be put back on
you beat me to it.
Indeed, once the cover is on, the space inside is so tight tabove the sim that it would not fit.
There's also not enough space anywhere else inside as it is all pretty snug....!
sorry to dissapoint you ... i checked every space under the cover and the only place it would fit is indeed on top of the sim but there is a millimeter short on space. i dont know if it would hurt to cut a little piece out of the battery or the microsd card or both .. i wouldnt try it.. also there is no room for it between the keyboard..
There is room...
On my touch pro i keep two spare SIM cards on top of the battery, under the cover. I just align them slightly below the camera hole, and the cover goes on fine...
as microsd is smaller than sim, i reckon u could get 3 of them in there

Yep, micro sd card fits on the battery under the cover
If that's the case, I wonder if a dual-sim simore adapter will fit (the type-2, that doesn't involve cutting your sim cards).
Thanks for all the effort guys,
Nice to know I can store a second sd card if needed

[Q] sim card and sd card popping out

Hi! So I just bought the Honor 6 a couple of days ago, and the thing that is bugging me is that it seems my micro-sim card is a little too big for the phone. I would assume all micro sim card are the same size. So the open/close plastic bit for the sim/sd cards is sticking out a little, and has opened sometimes when I take the phone out of my pocket. So then my sim card isn't longer connected and I have to restart the phone.
And today I bought a microSDHC card, and since the plastic bit isn't completely into the phone, then the sd card isn't in. So when I put my finger on the plastic bit to close it, then the sd card work, but is somehow being removed when I don't have my finger on it. And so my sim card isn't longer connected anymore and I have to restart my phone.
I have tried to look up others with the same problem, but haven't really found any.
Am I the only around here who has this problem?
The cards don't need the plastic to be in position ! Push them more in the holes, you must have a "clic"

It worked! Thanks! I had to use something tiny to get them really in place, I guess my fatty fingers wasn't enough!

Moto g turbo sim card slot replacement

This post has been opened to know issues relating to sim card replacement for moto g turbo(Merlin).
I'm not sure I understand... Take out the old SIM, insert the new SIM, adjust APN or have carrier auto-provision as necessary, and go on with your day to day activities.
Do you have a specific question or issue?
Actually my first sim card slot which had 3 golden pieces one got removed, will I be ever able to use sim slot 1 again cause everyone is saying that the whole phone has to be opened. Will the phone work as before if they open the whole phone, phone moto g turbo xt1557

Oh... You mean the SIM socket or slot itself. Sorry I misunderstood the issue. I can't help there.
SIM slot (socket) repair is both difficult and risks permanent damage to the logic board. I'm no expert in it myself but I do know that there are a few eBay vendors who deal in replacement slot (socket) modules for very reasonable prices. Replacing the unit -- from everything I've read and seen on the subject -- involves some intricate work with a soldering iron. There are some YouTube instructional videos should you wish to try.
From everything I've seen through replacement parts and teardown videos, you can complete this repair without soldering anything.
That being said, it does have its risks. It does require you to do almost a complete teardown of the phone in order to get access to the main logic board to remove and replace with a new sim flex connector. They're pretty reasonable for price on ebay, and do not need to be soldered, but you'd do well to order and replace the frame sticker as well.
Keep in mind that you will no longer have the ip67 (water/dust) rating after opening your phone. (The replacement frame stickers generally don't claim to prevent water penetration.) Aside from that, the phone will function as before (provided that the repair is completed properly).
On the other hand, if the second sim is still working, and you don't need the dual sim functionality, you can always leave it as...

Ahhh. I see what you mean. This model sports the flex connector versus Moto's usual solder connected slot. I stand corrected. Good info.

Anybody have a hard time opening the SIM card slot?

The second time I had to open the SIM card/ SD card slot was the most difficult experience of it's kind for me.
I thought I'd messed up installing the SD card, but I know I didn't. You **** well know again this time I also made sure both the SIM & SD card were seated properly.
I've owned like 50 or more Androids. Some to use & in the past to sell. Selling them never worked out for me LOL.

Everytime I have to open it or close it
Lol, every sd/sim card holder extraction seems sketchy to me... fun times if it jams.
I thought it was just a Samsung thing.
Check the card(s) for fit; sim cards are notorious for break off tabs sticking out, trim if so.
Note where the tightness is/begins.
Eyeball it carefully for uniform dimensions or a raised spot, same with bay.
Fine tooth file or 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper if need be... carefully.
&
Never ever force it.
