Custom Rom Tips - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've found several helpful things when trying all of these ROMS from our dedicated developers. I might as well start a thread for helpful tidbits that I find. Every once in a while when I find something, I'll post it. ?

PAC-ROM + L-SPEED = Best charging speed. Left untouched, it can charge up to 60% in 60 minutes. (approx.)
Also the smoothest of the ROMS.

What kernel? And what settings in L-Speed to achieve that charging rate?

I used no kernel, check the switches, battery & fast charge. anything else is your choice.

TIP: I've figured out that as time goes by, a stable custom rom gets smoother and faster. Seems counter intuitive, but within 12 hours of run time, that is when the butter starts to melt.

LONGEST LASTING BATTERY stable ROM/kernel

Hi. I am using stock ics. Getting 1.5days of battery with light usage of data(2g). However. Is there a rom that can push it, to a full 2 days? I'm irritated having to charge my phone in the middle of the day. also I would prefer a stable rom only.

you can put a custom kernel that can extend your battery life. i recommend glados for ics.
Are there any problems with it ?

about GlaDos
if you have S-amuled you will have a greenish screen when waking the device
(that can be fixed with some voodoo configuration editing)
other then that i personally think this is the best available kernel for ICS right now.
it has Deep Idle so you will probably see some improvement of battery life

i have 9023, lcd version.. should i flash Nexus beam with it?
Battery life depends on ROMs and your usage habits.
If you can get five hours of on screen time your doing something right.

Um is this normal ?

My battery life is horrific Im running jelly"bean" v7 and IMO's lean kernel

Here's a pic of the build and kernel

Is this the first time you've used LeanKernel and Beans? It's normal only in the sense that it happens to some of us, myself included, on the first flash of LeanKernel. Give it a day and you should see Android System revert to normal. The app "Better Battery Stats" can help you identify what precisely is causing this but it's likely just the initial flash of LeanKernel. Reboot and give it a day and you should see this settle. Also, make sure your cpu is set to whichever speeds you want it to be set to. I noticed one time that my min cpu speed somehow was set to 1.1ghz which is ridiculous.

I think ima just reboot clear dalvick cache and regular cache and fix permissions and then give it a go and my min is at 350 MHz lol so I know its not that

I just flashed beans 8 with lean kernel 1.4. I'm getting similar drain but it is normal for media drain and system to be high for the first day. It will settle and get much better.
Verizon S3, running which ever tw rom I've decided to flash today. .

I'm on beans 7 with lean 1.4 I flashed it yesterday I'll give it another day I just read on other places that turning off motion and put the WiFi sleep saves more battery and hopefully android system doesn't hog the battery haha

How much is your screen on time? Usually if you get around 4 hours on a full battery, that around normal.
Im on 3 hrs 5 minutes of on screen time with 45% battery left.
Verizon Samsung SIII
ROM: Jelly Beans 8
THEME: Magnum Cream

happier off not using cm. and havent tried the stock rom on my n5 either(booted first boot with a custom rom/root). who said cm is fast anyways? its not a rom built for speed, its a rom built for features.
Its just usually always felt the same speed at very least this is the first time I feel its a bit slower is all was wondering if it was just me or not.

you have enough posts now, and can ask in their thread. there will be a lot more cm users there to answer you. have you tried messing with the governor/scheduler? try ondemand/deadline, then set the ondemand governor with upthreshold of 98 and the sampling rate to 15000. that should give you a bit of a boost
Thanks I'll try that

Cm vs stock with mods

On my phone running stock with Franco kernel, xpossed gravity box, and Nova.
On past phones I always ran CM or a variation of CM. For the n5 with my current set of mods... What does cm have that I am lacking?
The answer most are thinking is flash and find out for yourself. Only reason I am not doing that is I feel the differences are probably minimal and currently my phone is running perfect. In the past lots of flashing around has left me needing to do more than a restore in cwm.
So if someone would be so kind to educate me I would appreciate it.

cm has many more bugs than your current build running. if you feel that you are lacking bugginess, than flashing cm should be a priority.
i think xposed + gravity box needs a lot of battery. with cm + cmkernel i got nearly 5h SOT. possible with xposed + gravity?

With my current a setup I only average 4 hrs. Less if I am using navigation and streaming music... That's closer to 3hrs.
So compared to the current setup cm will most likely give you better sot.

I disagree. Same kernel and everything, 5:30 on both. Doesn't really matter.

It usually goes bad when I am using waze, streaming Spotify, and on lte. During that I will also be texting, browsing fb, and making phone calls.
Except for gaming not much more strain can be put on the battery I don't think.

[Q] [Opinion] Batter life on kernel/rom.

I would like to ask this community for their opinion on which kernel or rom they would recommend, that has good battery life and good performance. Mainly battery life. I'm running liquid smooth, and I love it. But with the way I use my phone, it just gets hot and dies quickly. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I like ktoonsez kernel myself or even lean kernel. Everyone gets different battery life depending on how you use your phone really

Well, I use my phone for music in the morning, and the occasional text, yet it still gets super hot. Even without my case.

Mine does occasionally also. If I leave it alone it will cool down rather quickly. I have had to take my case and battery out maybe once or twice but that's about it. I use trickster mod kernel settings and it will show you the cpu temp and battery temp in real time. There are other apps that can do that also but that one seems to be the easiest

To the op the best Rom is the one you like, these posting typically turn into a flame session.......... so.......
