As you may have heard, US carriers did not receive a 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA update. They are not going to receive any Marshmallow 6.0 or Nougat (7.x) updates either. There are CM12.1 (Lollipop) , CM13 (Marshmallow) & CM14.1 (Nougat) customs roms available though. If you are a lucky owner of an XT1526/28/29 Moto E 2nd Gen 4G (Surnia) with an unlocked bootloader you can now also enjoy a stable stock rom intended for the Asian markets:
Current update options:
Android version 5.1.1
Android version 6.0
Carriers supported:
Sprint
Boost Mobile
FreedomPop
RingPlus
Ting
Virgin Mobile
TextNow
Verizon (XT1528 when an unlocked bootloader is available)
Open Mobile
LTE in Rural America (LRA) Partners
If you have a GSM carrier this may also work. Change the Preferred network type from LTE to Global.
In progress:
1. The 4G icon is the default rather than LTE icon. This was by design for this Asian rom. Looking into a better alternative than just replacing the 4G icons with the LTE icons located n SystemUI.apk.
2. Adding carrier specific apps. As I am a FreedomPop user, I only need to know which carrier specific apps are required for the following carriers: Sprint, Boost Mobile, RingPlus, Ting, Virgin Mobile, TextNow and where they can be located (Play Store, a different rom, etc.). If not downloaded from the Play Store, you must test them out first on the rom you are testing (5.1.1 or 6.0) before reporting back.
3.. Workaround for the menus for Activate/System Update no longer existing. (You can still update PRL by dialing # #72786# (# #SCRTN#).)
4. In About Phone->Status->Sim Status: it displays the network as your MVNO carrier when on 1XRTT or eHRPD 3G. Sprint is displayed when on LTE Band 25/26 or TD-LTE Band 41. ( The lock screen also does the same thing) . 1XRTT or eHRPD 3G is being retrieved from the data/eri.xml. Not sure where "Sprint" is being retrieved from but I think it has to do with Sprint's MCC MNC of 311 490 for LTE bands 25, 26, 41.
5. Locating the picture file displayed under Settings->About phone-> Regulatory information so it can be replaced with one for the XT1526/28/29.
6. Adding support for other CDMA variants (XT1528, XT1529, XT838L) if their boot loaders can be unlocked. I heard Verizon XT1528 is permanently locked. Not sure about Open Mobile XT1529. The XT838L is listed with the same hardware as the XT1528 & XT1529 but have no idea what country it is being sold in.
7. APN changes if necessary.
8. Safe way to make sure a newbie doesn't flash their bootloader to a previous version and possibly hard bricking their XT1526.
Let me know which carrier you have and Android version tested. Please test all of the following:
1x
3G
4G
Send MMS on 3g & 4g
Receive MMS on 3g & 4g
Send SMS on 3g & 4g
Receive SMS on 3g & 4g
Outgoing Calls on 3g & 4g
Incoming Calls on 3g & 4g
USB Tether
Wi-Fi Tether
Your experience with issues 2 & 4 above.
Anything else you feel is relevant.
No flashable zip yet but follow the instructions below . Flashable zips are in post#2

Thanks go out to deega for his Flashable LTE fix.

Newbie Guide
If you do not want to update the bootloader, then basically, you go into custom recovery and flash the Surnia_Moto_E_2015_xxx_Stock_Partition_Updater.zip (xxx=5.1.1 or 6.0) first and then the stock rom of your choice.
The Surnia_Moto_E_2015_xxx_Stock_Partition_Updater.zip is necessary ONLY ONCE and ONLY if you have an EARLIER version of the gpt.bin installed. For example, if you upgraded to 6.0 and installed Surnia_Moto_E_2015_6.0_Stock_Partition_Updater.zip already and want to downgrade to 5.1..1 then don't run Surnia_Moto_E_2015_5.1.1_Stock_Partition_Updater.zip before the stock rom. You also don't need to use it if your reinstalling 6.0 or any earlier version either. If you downgrade, please DO NOT ACCEPT any OTAs as this may lead to a hard brick.
1. Backup the entire data on your Moto E 2nd Gen 4G before proceeding. http://guidebeats.com/2015/09/09/backup-data-android-smartphones
2. Sufficiently charge the Moto E 2nd Gen 4G battery before proceeding. At minimum 60%.
3. You will need an unlocked bootloader. https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
4. Install the Motorola USB drivers to connect your Moto E 2nd Gen 4G to your PC. https://support.motorola.com/us/en/Solution/MS100797
5. Enable USB Debugging Mode on your Moto E 2nd Gen 4G, from Settings -> Developer options. http://guidebeats.com/2016/02/19/en...y-android-smartphone-running-at-kitkat-higher
6.Download, and then install the Minimal ADB and Fastboot tools on your PC. http://guidebeats.com/2015/10/12/guide-to-install-minimal-adb-fastboot-flash-tool-on-windows
7. Download the appropriate Surnia_Moto_E_2015_xxx_Stock_Partition_Updater.zip below.
8. Extract the gpt.bin and the bootloader.img to your Minimal ADB and Fastboot tools directory (along with a custom recovery if you do not have one installed yet - link below).
9. Boot into bootloader mode via [Press and hold the two buttons Vol. Down+ Home at the same time, Release all buttons when the Moto E 2nd Gen 4G vibrates and displays the logo on the screen.
10. Connect your Moto E 2nd Gen 4G to PC while it’s in bootloader mode.
11. Skip this step if you are downgrading or reinstalling the same version. Otherwise, double click the MAF32.exe in the Minimal ADB and Fastboot tools directory and type in the following commands:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash recovery <name of custom recovery image if you don't already have one, e.g. "twrp-surnia-3.0.2-r1.img">
12. Copy the proper stock rom below to your internal storage.
13. Tap the Vol Up/Vol Down buttons and choose recovery mode. Go to Wipe-->Advanced Wipe. Check Davlik /Art Cache, System, Data, & Cache. Swipe to wipe. Go Back and choose Install.
14. Select your stock rom and tap Install image.
15. After it completes, reboot phone and wait at least 12 minutes to get to the Welcome screen. I suggest waiting until you see a 3G or LTE icon before setting up Wi-Fi during setup.
16. Congratulations, you just updated to stock 5.1.1 or 6.0!

Known Issues:
1. Cosmetic
- (6.0 only) In About Phone->Status->Sim Status the Cellular network type displays as 4G rather than LTE.
- (XT1526 only) In About Phone->Status->Sim Status the Network shows as Sprint even if your using a Sprint MVNO or Sprint subsidiary. (The lock screen also does the same thing)
- The picture file displayed under Settings->About phone-> Regulatory information displays the SAR information for India's XT1521.
2. The menus for Activate Device (Self Service)/System Update no longer exist under System in the settings menu so you cannot access Update PRL, Update Profile, or UICC Unlock. Update Motorola software has been moved to System updates under Settings->About phone. XT1526 users can NO LONGER update PRL by dialing # #72786# (# #SCRTN#) either. You will need to make a backup, install another stock rom, update prl and profile, then reinstall backup.

Uploaded V2 for XT1526
Links for V2 are now in the Newbie guide in the post above.
I am now using the Christmas Nightly 2016 Cyanogenmod 7.1.1 rom. I will no longer be providing support in this forum for these roms.
Changes:
1. APN Changes
2. New Default wallpaper
3. The picture file displayed under Settings->About phone-> Regulatory information no longer displays the SAR information for India's XT1521.
Known Issues:
1. Cosmetic
- (6.0 only) In About Phone->Status->Sim Status the Cellular network type displays as 4G rather than LTE.

Optional:
For Sprint CDMA variants:
Reboot into Bootloader Mode, connect your device to PC and from PC terminal type:
fastboot oem config fsg-id boost if you are a Boost Mobile user
fastboot oem config fsg-id frdm if you are a FreedomPop user
fastboot oem config fsg-id rngplus if you are a RingPlus user
fastboot oem config fsg-id virgin if you are a Virgin Mobile user
fastboot oem config fsg-id sprint if you are a Sprint user or not listed
fastboot oem config fsg-id usc if you are a U.S. Cellular user
This was implemented by Cyanogenmod and I was going to use this to fix the remaining cosmetic issue in the Known Issues. I have lost interest in these roms so I am leaving that cosmetic issue unfinished.

I like this guide. I also own an xt1526 on sprint and successfully flashed the marshmallow rom using the instructions. Great Job!

Thank you for the instruction!
Is it still possible to root on the Marshmallow firmware?

Thanks for setting up this support thread Buzbee - I'm moving over here from the original one.
I'm still getting no joy sending MMS via LTE on Boost. I put in APN settings manually on Cypher's rom and that could send in 3G but as soon as I switch to Squid's CM13/Asian 6.0 OTA on LTE it fails with stock/Hangouts/8sms/etc. It fails immediately too - it doesn't even seem to be trying
An old thread on the Moto G forums suggested that Boost requires authentication for MMS on LTE but not on 3G. That probably means it's a big hassle to get it working but I'll keep digging and see what I can turn up. Thanks again for all your work on this, for everyone on all networks - it's very much appreciated.

Thanks for getting back to me. Settings does not want to play nice! I've added the APN but it only shows up if I'm in airplane mode. As soon as I reconnect (whatever my Preferred network type setting) it disappears and the original Sprint and Boost APNs come back. Switch to airplane and they disappear and the one I entered manually is there. Screenshots attached.
I've been playing around with various things and testing them with Debdude (who opened a thread about getting APNs to stick under Troubleshooting) but these errors and disappearing settings are weird. That's not the expected behavior, is it? It seems to affect most roms at the moment, at least on Boost (I've been flicking between the Asian MM OTA, Squid2's CM13 and Cypher).

They like to disappear when the MNC is zeros. Try Changing it to 120. If that don't work try changing APN to n.boost.ispsn like the other one.

Make sure to add 120 for the MNC or the APN wont appear in the list after you save it.

Thanks again.
I followed your advice with both the Boost_Mobile APN and installing Hangouts. Still nothing...until I tried again after a few hours and MMS worked, both on Hangouts and stock messaging app. Great, I thought, and uninstalled Hangouts. And then it failed again. Re-installed Hangouts, gave it a couple of hours, and MMS was back.
I know Hangouts uses its own APN settings which I believe it grabs when first sending an SMS, so maybe that's the key, although I was amazed that stock worked as well. I feel a bit like an impatient ---hole as it seems that giving Hangouts time will sort problems with the system. Either that or a combination of it and the extra APN, even if it doesn't show up under the APN settings. So thanks again for all your help.
If any Boost users are having similar problems I suggest installing Hangouts and then being patient...

The installation batch files are down. Are they just fastboot installers with some adb commands sprinkled throughout? I might be able to manage without them, but would much prefer the bat file.
If I wanted to upgrade straight from 5.0.x to 6.0, I wouldn't need to download the 5.1.1 ROM right? Just everything except that.

Yes you can go from 5.0 to skipping 5.1.1. One of the batch files was missing. It's back up now.

What was the phone's previous carrier? Sprint, Boost mobile, Virgin mobile, or FreedomPop, etc.? Is it a XT1526? If so, go here and download one of the roms (official or deodexed). Don't use any other zips on the site(partition updater, hotspot fox, etc.)

I got a US Cellular XT1526. I don't plan on using it on CDMA, only GSM networks like AT&T/TMO. Will this method work with GSM & how about flashing EU XT1524 6.0.1 OTA instead of XT1521?

I have never used the EU XT1524. The retail asia rom is all in English with nothing but Google and Moto apps. It has an extra google keyboard and language packs but they are not even noticeable unless you go into language and input. You could easily just install the XT1521 rom just don't apply the Buzbee_R3.zip. It shouldn't be needed. Don't accept any OTA's either.

I was about to point that out. The methods of previous model that prior known to work is EXACT SAME, just the little app which allows us to access that menu for S4. I also would like to know about band 2600 and if it stays intact for Rogers/Bell.

Perfect. If you have Rogers sim, you should be able to get 2600 if you force it since most places get it unless you're in a area which doesn't. Maybe do a speed test to make sure but yeah it makes sense that it stays intact.
Folks,
Would it be necessary to change it back to MTP or MTP+ADB mode when done?

If you see my screenshot, the phone remained on B7 (2600) with 20MHZ (that is how we verify it is indeed LTE 2600). No need to worry about it "sticking". That being said, I won't be caught dead going out and getting a Rogers SIM card...ever
Would this re-lock the phone, if I unlocked it using the ServiceMenu method (i.e. not using a code)?
EDIT:
To answer my own question; patching the supplied .qcn *will not* re-lock the phone if it was unlocked using the ServiceMenu method.

Best news ever for all S4 users.
would this have to be redone if at&t or alike releases a firmware OTA that updates the phone modem?
I am in sensory overload with all the bootloader excitement today and am trying to get this AWS TMO thing straight in my head. I have been bouncing back and forth between the the TMO threads and the AT&T threads trying to stay up to date and now am just utterly confused.
If I do this mod to my rooted and sim unlocked AT&T i337 and then put a TMO sim card in it I should be able to get the faster 3G connection speeds instead of being stuck on Edge speeds? Depending on my area and service availability of course.
Is this what I am getting with the AWS enabling? Or do we still need to flash a different modem to enable fully the TMO frequencies on the AT&T phones?

You don't need to flash any different modem, this will fully enable TMobile freq on your ATT S4
Yes you should be able to get faster 3G connection as well.
Will this enable t-mobile LTE on our phone or is that impossible?
How is this different from the service menu unlock posted last week?

T-Mobile LTE is already enabled. This mod does not affect that.

SIM Unlock = Any SIM can be used
AWS Enable = T-Mobile 3G / 4G on 1700/2100 will work in addition to 1900 and LTE.
These are two different ideas.
The one you were asking is to unlock your phone which you already did, and the method listed here is to let you access AWS network.

[PATCH] Patch CDMA to GSM for Android Global Phones

This is a patch to fully enable the GSM on CDMA Global phones.
The Global Phones are phones with CDMA and GSM modems but that are usually configured to primarly work on CDMA network and at least to be able to call on GSM network.
The patch is working on every Stock Rom, on every AOSP Rom and on every Android version.
If you are successfully using this patch please comment the thread with your phone model.
This patch will enable:
- GSM/UMTS -> [GSM auto (PRL)] in Testing menù
- SMS
- MMS
- 3G Data
- USSD Code
- Call Forwarding
- Testing menù to manage the baseband accessible dialing the code *#*#4636#*#* (locked on Verizon Phones)
How to install:
- Copy the .zip file to the external memory or memory card
- Reboot your phone and enter on your custom recovery
- From the Install menu select the .zip file and instal withotut signature verification on your Rom
Risk of briking:
- no one: during installation the installer checks everything is ok and stop installation in case of problem; in case of problems after installation the old settings can be restored by simply installing the patch a second time. In this way you can test the gsm settings without any risk.
Advice post-installation:
- If the patch has not been installed on a clean system then you have to do a factory reset
- On the AOSP Roms the Patch is persistent, when you will update your rom you do not have to reinstall the patch
- *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone info -> Set prefered network type -> GSM auto (PRL)
How to uninstall:
- To uninstall the patch you have to reinstall it a second time from the custom recovery
The patch should work on every CDMA Global Phone.
The patch should work on every Rom.
Download the patch here
If someone successfully use this patch on some other model please leave a comment in this page, so I will be able to update the above list.
If someone has edited this patch to support some other phone please inform me so as not to waste information and in this way I can update the patch.
Any help is precious.
HOW TO POST REQUEST FOR HELP:
You have to entirely read this thread, I do NOT answer redundant question.
If you want to know if the patch is compatible with a phone then you have to attach the /system/build.prop in your post in this thread because i don't know all phones. (You can also send me the build.prop as attachment via the contact section of my site.)
If you installed the patch and there are problems you have to attach (and do not post) your /system/build.prop and your /system/build.prop.bak.
I do not answer to requests for help in private, I have neither the time nor the interest in doing so.
Any doubts, questions or requests must be posted in this thread in order to answer a single time and help everyone.

The patch has been update.
Everyone can help me to extend support for more phones.
Thanks.
Patch updated for better GSM support.
works flawless on my Razr xt912 in Pakistan using Gsm network.
Thanks a lot man.:good:
Available a new update to solve problems with apns on 4.3.x roms.
It works on my Droid razr Maxx xt912 with CM10.2-20131020-NIGHTLY-spyder ROM, my phone is using GSM carrier
New version working well on Vodafone Ireland with cyanogenmod 10.1.3 on XT912.
This version also leaves the ROM version intact - older version for 10.1.2 seemed to update the string.
The version that changed the string was only for the xt894 with cm 10.1.2, that was the first version.
Works great on my XT912 with MIUI v5. Thanks.

I may have misinterpreted the topic I guess, but did install this while I was overseas with my Verizon phone, everything was fine but now it seems as I am unable to find 3G network back in the US. I have changed the specs from GMS/CDMA , etc on the settings but no signal of 3G/LTE.
Anyone has had this issue before? Any way to turn it back to normal so that I can get data here in the US?

In US you can not use the GSM on many Verizon phones, you have to use the CDMA and you have to restore build.props and apns list.
The patch has been successfully tested on droid bionic xt875 in and outside the US and on droid 3 xt862.

Mentor I have a question.
I flashed on XT912-Spyder CM 10.1.3 but even before I did flash I would have no service at all , I have Euorpean sim card which has active roaming.
When I put it into iPhone 4S it shows T-Mobile USA but in settings T-Mobile.Poland settings so it roams, it gets signal, receivies texts.
IN XT912 it only shows phone number in settings that is all , i flashed your patch.. I will do it again maybe it will help I don't know.
Can you help me? if I get sim to work I will have my buddy replace screen, battery everything and put this phone into use for someone.
You could try installing the patch on clean system before first boot without restore any backup.
Let's me know.

EDIT:
Same thing I just did what you told me it instantly showed the European phone number Poland area code +48.
Signal Strength : 0 dBm 99asu
I can't understand how when I put it in Verizon 4S which was Unlocked by VZW it shows signal, receives texts etc.. the droid razr after JB update was suppsed to be unlocked for European use for example.
It even synced local time in Poland which is +6 hours! it seems to pull up number and time but no signal
Is there anything else I can try?

Yep did that and still no ago same thing.
Before I got the phone (Got it for free)
when I first put AT&T simcard it showed me roaming triangle for few seconds ever since that time the signal just does not work.. at all.
The xt 912 is GSM locked in the US and could be locked for AT&T sim outside US too, you could try with another sim.

Well yes I know so why when I put in T-Mobile Poland sim card which roams on T-Mobile USA it shows nothing but only phone number? it's weird.
Works fine in 4S unlocked by Verizon.

Help needed for CDMA data service (downgrading from 4.4.2 to lower version)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 CDMA Verizon & GSM phone. Originally it was on android 4.1.2 and working fine for both CDMA and GSM (one at a time). CDMA EVDO Rev A data service was working fine.
I am using this phone in Nepal (not in USA). It was carrier unlocked for both CDMA & GSM when I purchased from Amazon. (so, I guess, Originally it may had some customized firmware/ROM for International use, I don’t have much idea).
I was asked for firmware upgrade every time when I run Samsung Kies. One day I clicked to upgrade the firmware. The upgrade was over successfully. But the new android version I found on my phone was 4.4.2.
In this version /new upgrade, I was unable to use CDMA data (EVDO-rev A). So I wanted to reverse back to old version. I search the process in Google and tried to load firmware with the help of Odin3 using this file:- “I535VRBMF1_I535VZWBMF1_VZW.zip”, but it was not successful. Result: Fail(Auth)
Then I loaded firmware for 4.4.2 using Odin3.09 (AP: “I535VRUDNE1_I535VZWDNE1_I535VRUDNE1_HOME.tar.md5”) and now the phone is working.
• If I use GSM SIM I can make call and use HSPA data service as well by adding new APN.
• If I use CDMA RUIM I can make call, BUT DATA SEVRICE using CDMA EVDO Rev A is NOT WORKING!! (I can not save APN in this case).
Now my issue is how to make CDMA EVDO data service working in my phone, because my basic requirement is to use this phone for CDMA service (voice + data).
I can edit the APN but when I click “Save”, nothing was saved. So I can not select APN for my carrier. I tried using APN Manager Pro too, here I can enter & enable the APN, but did not work. The phone is not able to dial the data access code #777 (verified from CDMA service provider side trace).
Can someone help me what I should do to make my phone working for CDMA data. My phone is rooted.
I guess it may work for CDMA data if I downgrade it to 4.3 or 4.1.2,
Can I do that. If so what are the procedures / steps. Any help in this regard would be highly appreciable.
My data worked this way

I think your problem is the region is not set Nepal...I installed dark jb rom in my phone and data was gone since then. Then I manually downloaded stock firmware and flashed through odin but still data wasnt working,nd while in recovery mode i saw region INS ie India. then something came in my mind and.. .I changed it to NPL and now i can use data in only sim 1 only not in both sims. So i also may need some help.
For you *#272*IMEI# . Use your phones IMEI number there (*#06#) . Select NPL region.
NOTE: It will hard format your phone installing required carrier apps, aps, bla bla and hope work on your phone

Well, it looks to me as though you've locked your bootloader and are now stuck on 4.4.2. For some reason, Verizon forces Samsung to lock their bootloaders, which means we (the consumers) cannot install "custom" firmware on our devices (or downgrade).
Once you're on 4.4.2 NE1 your stuck with it. No downgrade possible at least not without a Jtag service

[Tutorial] [How To] Enable True Spark LTE If Missing Spark Boot Animation

If you have a Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920P) 64gb and don't have the Sprint Spark LTE boot animation it is very possible that you may not be getting a true Spark LTE Signal. You may be connected to band 41 (Spark band) but could only be using 4g LTE instead of Spark LTE. This is a tutorial so you can rest assure you are getting the Spark connectivity you so well deserve as the majority 64gb models (and possibly some 32gb) don't seem to be updated with this right out of the box. So lets get started!
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY OF ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICE TO RENDER IT USELESS
First thing you are going to want to do is download a program called ODIN 3.10.7, it can be found here: Odin 3.10.7
Next you need to download the stock TAR file to flash in ODIN which can be found here: N920PVPU1AOGD_N920PSPT1AOGD_SPR----STOCK TARBALL (Thanks rlmiller)
MAKE SURE YOUR VERIFY YOUR MD5sum!
Go into your Settings and if you don't have Developer Options enabled, enable it by going to your About Phone and tapping the Build Version a good 5 to 6 times until it says you are a Developer.
Go back into your Settings and you will see Developer Options. Under Developer Options, turn on OEM Unlock.
Boot into Download Mode after you have both of these files by holding Power+Volume Down+Home Button before the Samsung Logo appears.
Go past the warning screen by pressing Volume Up.
Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable and ODIN should recognize it is connected (if not you need to install Samsung Mobile Drivers).
Check AP and click AP
Select the Stock Tar file you downloaded. Under options, check the following: Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time, Nand Erase All, Phone EFS Clear, and RTN for Sprint.
Your phone will install the tar file after wiping everything and your progress bar will show.
Once you boot back up, some pop ups are going to occur for connecting your device to the carrier.
Allow these pop ups to proceed and reboot when requested.
Your PRL, Profile and RTN will be automatically updated and a reboot is necessary.
The final automatic reboot will give you a Sprint boot animation with the Sprint Spark LTE!
(There is no sun dial on the Galaxy Note 5 in the Status Bar nor is there on the Samsung Galaxy S6+Edge so don't be worried).

I'm not sure if its working with Spark, but the Spark logo does show up now when booting the phone.
Also, I had an issue with my Note 5 where wifi calling would not show up and following the OP's method got wifi calling to show up.

Correct but without the boot animation you may not be receiving "true spark lte"
Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk
I just want to throw this out there. The yellow Sprint spark boot animation has absolutely nothing to do with wether your phone is or isn't receiving and utilizing the Sprint spark services.
From hearing your reports of missing features such as wifi calling and mobile hotspot, it sounds as if a batch of Note 5's have a bad firmware flash out of the box. These features are controlled by: 1. having the correct software for your variant of Note 5. 2. Initial setup using the correct CSC features for your device variant ( carrier, country, device model#). 3. your bootloader will access and identify your device model and use the corresponding CSC accordingly. The new Lollipop and later bootloaders play a much bigger role than all previous software versions. It is the central "hub" so to say. So as long as you have the correct software flashed on you device variant (wether brand new out of the box or otherwise) then doing a factory restore/reset or flashing the latest device specific software using odin will give you all of the intended features including the ability to access the Sprint Spark services, wifi calling feature, hotspot, system, update for sprint, etc, etc. This is a known fact and I have personally verified this theory over and over again on my Note 4 running lollipop 5.0 and 5.1.1. The same principles will apply to the note 5 and other Samsung devices running Lollipop 5.0 and later software. I hope this helps some of you understand why and how some features on you phone could simply be "missing" and/or not working. The bottom line is if you suspect your phone is missing features that another identical not 5 has right out of the box, then you may need to make sure your phone has the correct software flashed onto it and/or do a factory restore/reset. During the first boot is the critical time when CSC features is setup correctly on your phone. If something happens during this initial setup process it is very possible that some features, services, etc will not properly setup and you will be scratching your head in confusion. This bit of info should help you decide how to proceed with your device if you have similar symptoms. Fix it yourself by doing a factory reset and if that doesn't do it then flash the latest official Samsung rom tar using odin on your pc. This will set you straight. Thanks for reading.
The phone is spark capable right out of the box. The only reason this instruction works for giving you missing features however, is only because it's doing RTN. If you do nothing else but an RTN reset (carrier reset) using your MSL (Some devices may call for MSL), you'll trigger a provision and carrier specific features such as wifi calling, Hotspot, and carrier bloat apps will install. The dial code is ##72786#

Not necessarily true. I was missing wifi calling and doing a ##72786# didn't bring it back or install the feature. Using ##72786# doesn't require a msl and will only reset the phones provisioning and reprovision on boot up.
I also tried a ##786# or known as (##RTN#) and this reset the phone (factory reset) at as well as the provisioning. This didn't work either. Using ##786# requires the msl code.
Reflashing the stock rom via Odin, erasing the EFS and selecting the Sprint RTN option in Odin, made wifi calling come back.

Quick question, is the spark animation something different than the yellow page with the Sprint logo... That's all that shows up when I restart my phone.. My LG G2 had another animation with the spinning sun logo after the yellow Sprint page... I have signal check on my phone and when I check it, it says the different bands I'm connected to like 25 or 26.. I've only seen 41 once in new Orleans.. What would be missing or the problem if I don't have the spinning sun logo animation if that is what you are referring to?

What if your all ready on AOJ6?
As far as I understand you don't need the Spark logo at boot for the phone to be on Sprint Spark.

Yeah, Sprint is removing the spark logo from the boot up and notification tray on all phones. Spark still active though.

The Note 4 is a spark device but it does not have carrier aggregation like the Note Edge and every other device after. Also you don't need this to get true LTE+ speeds on a CA enabled device. This was just a misconception by the op.
Spark is just the use of all three LTE bands wether they have CA or not. Unfortunately your Note 4 isn't capable. This is what LTE+/CA looks like and as you can see no spark symbol on my tray. On a positive side, you're probably up for an upgrade by now if LTE+ is really a big deal for you.

Note 5 SM-920P bought in China

I bought a Note 5 which worked fine with China Unicom, the phone was 5.1.1 so I decided to manually update the phone to mm. After the update the phone can make calls, but it can't pick up data signal. I've tried everything from flashing the modem back to 5.1.1 (which was the one that worked, originally) but no dice. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this. The phone isn't rooted and its constantly trying to activate its voice and data, even though the voice all ready works.
Enter the APN settings manually for your network. The same happened to me on my Unlocked N920P. I entered the APN (Airtel India) and deleted all the others. On upgrading, it will automatically pick up the Sprint APNs. So add a new APN and enter your setting for your network manually.

It happened to me too. The first step was the APN. changed the APN manually on mine but still it seemed no data connection was active. On step two I discovered that even the data seems not active, in reality there was a data connection and everything was working, but the icon was not showing due to something missing in the Sprint's SystemUI data connection icons.
So, try to put your apn manually and try and check if there is a data connection, i.e. using the browser to navigate.

Open the notification panel - touch the "down arrow" symbol on the upper right corner to show all the icons and look there must be the data connection icon you're looking for.
As for the update: Updated myself to MM and everything works fine with the exception of 4G. This is not something caused by the update but because the LTE-4G bands the phone works are not compatible. Check yourself @ willmyphonework.net
Flash pure GSM kind of roms.
First go to official MM by ODIN, root it,
Via TWRP, flash Lamlazy ROM or aurora rom which is compatible rom without sprint stuff.
Try this rom http://bbs.gfan.com/android-8394771-1-1.html
Download link pan.baidu.com/s/1c2JZgje PW kr10
I didn't try yet. but it says N920p supported. If u are on sprint, am not sure how it works.. but GSM should work well.
That V7 of Lamlazy can be found here -- thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=153
