good morning all,
i am hoping someone can help my stupid self.
i finally got a root to work on my phone, for the main purpose of removing mcafee. i start getting rid of the programs i don't need and can't find mcafee anywhere. turns out is in the "cannot remove" list.
so, i find a couple of tasks without any info and turned one off hoping that might be it:angel:.
turns out i turned off my input for the lockscreen. to make it even more fun, it is encrypted. i cannot get it to be recognized on my pc. i can get it to start in safe mode, and i can get it to start in the download mode.
it won't install the mtp drivers, but the rest are there.
so, i was hoping one or more of you wonderful, intelligent and, dare i say, beautiful people would know of a way to get around either the encryption or some way to turn the task back on so that i can enter my code.
thank you for not laughingtoo hard at my pain

I have been trying to figure this out on my own through searching, and when that failed experimentation, but to no avail.
What I would like is that every time I run an application from eclipse, my android device will wake (screen on and all that). Additionally I want, though this is not as important, to be able to wake my device from the command line.
The reason I want this is simple. I don't like leaving my device on as I sometimes read code and tutorials or get some food, and I end up not touching the device for a half hour at a time. I don't want to leave it on when plugged in (which is most of the day), and I end up turning it on with the power button about thirty times each day, which seems excessive.
Sorry if this is something obvious, but I can't find anyone talking about it anywhere.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Nobody else has ever wanted to do this? Noone has looked into this? Surely soneone has an interest in this if not knowledge of how to go about making it work.
moved to QnA, not dev related.
(probably why no one answered your question)
Solved!
Well, I've solved the issue on my own. I created an application called Wakey Droid that does what I want. Then all you need to do is set the command adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n bdjnk.android.wakeydroid/.Wakey to some convenient shortcut, and life is good.
Hi,
I am really annoyed of that pop up, that comes up, when you activate bluetooth, giving you the chance of connecting directly to coupled devices or search for new ones...
As most of my bt-devices connect automatically, and the S7 is obviously visible also for not coupled devices, as long as this window is open (at least the text says so), I do absolutely not want this pop up at all...
It is not even going away after some time...if you dont close it manually, it stays open forever.
So, can anyone tell me, how to deactivate this window? I just want my S7 to start bluetooth, when i click the quick setting, and if I need anything more, I go into the detailed bt-settings separately...thx for any hint!

P.
really, noone knows a solution to, or is at least also bothered by this touchwiz-supercrap?
I have the same problem.. pretty annoying. I world very much like to know this too :/
What worked for me after trying and trying to find a way around ACCESSIBILITY SETTINGS for hours...was just:
1: Clicking the green setup arrow.
2: Turning off Wi-Fi.
3: Clicking NEXT.
4: Choose KEEP YOUR APPS & DATA.
It then gave me an option to SIGN IN....and immediately ACCEPTED my most recent password!
SIMPLE, I KNOW...BUT hell, it worked for me. Sometimes, the most obvious things get overlooked. Was this just a fluke or is it really that easy to bypass?
I may have missed a step, as I'm no longer in the setup situation...but let me know if this helped you! :good:
I tried this and it didn't work.. wish it would have as that is what I think I triggered whenever I redid my phone.

Damn....yeah. All I essentially did was turn off Wi-Fi, skip setup...then backup from a previous installation. NOTHING else worked, even though one time before, I fixed it, too. BUT...I'll be damned if I trigger it on purpose, just to find out how! LOL. I literally tried Googling for hours yesterday...and EVERYTHING was patched that used to work. I found a way into Google, through Legal Settings in Accessibility....but it wouldn't let me download a file, or set a shortcut to get to split screen.

Hmm. Well for me I don't have a previous installation. And yeah.. I can't find anything either. It won't let me turn off Wi-Fi to skip setup as I guess its saying my phone doesn't have data? Not sure but turning wifi off just keeps me at that screen.
Hey guys
I'm new here and was wondering if anyone could help me! I have just downloaded and followed the instructions to install and use Substratum & Andromeda for my S8 plus.
I followed all of the steps up to getting myself a theme. Once the theme was installed my screen went black. I wasn't too bothered at first but now my phone is unusable! The only thing I am able to access is the camera by double tapping the lock button. The phone still vibrates if I get a call etc but I can't unlock it.
I get a message that pops up over and over again saying 'System UI has stopped' And the only option is to 'Close app'
I'm not gonna lie guys, I'm an absolute noob when it comes to this stuff. Is my phone gone forever or can I fix this?!
Cheers!
Perhaps some help?

Need some more information to help identify what you have installed last, or more specifically the offending overlay perhaps that does not agree with the "SYS UI"??? Next will be to ask if you understand or have any knowledge working with "ADB" as this will be needed to remove the offending "APP" installed you installed? Having asked this and having been in your shoes, I will tell you that if you have not ever given permission on a connected computer for "ADB" to have access to this phone you have put yourself in a place that a FACTORY RESET is going to be your best solution. I have found other ways to get into my phone using Bixby, as it can uninstall APPS but you would need to again know specifically the name of the offending APP.
My final thought/suggestion would be to spare yourself any further headache and just commit to the FRESET and then Google/Learn your way into an understanding with ADB - it can save you a ton of time while you learn about moding your phone:good:
My last phone you couldn't turn off, reboot, or change network settings while the phone is locked. This is a very useful feature as if your phone "walks away" tracking cannot be disabled so as long as your battery is not dead you have full tracking abilities.
I did notice this feature seems to work with GPS. If you try to toggle, it will prompt for a password but that alone isn't enough to track it. I need to lock mobile data as well. I could probly just remove it from my notification tray but that is an inconvenience as I do use that toggle.
Any Ideas?

Not all devices have added those as all it takes to beat them is removing the sim card and all android devices will reboot if the power button is held for an extended time.
Well I thought about the reboot and it will boot back up so I didn't see that as a problem. Didn't think about the sim card though. Well lets just hope if someone gets a hold of my phone they won't think about it either. Anything I can do to make it harder is still worth it.
Oh well. If someone has a way to make this happen please share. I don't even know if its something I can make happen with an app or by editing anything in the android system. I will keep looking in the mean time.

I can tell you that there are 3 steps when a device is stolen and the first one is remove the battery and the second is remove the sim card so no one can call it. the 3rd step is resetting it.
You will need a custom rom to get those options.
If you care about security too much, I would say never unlock your bootloader.
Its so easy to keep pressing the power button and reboot to bootloader and flash stuff to access your memory (With unlocked bootloader of course)
But with locked BL, they have to erase the storage in order to unlock it and do stuff. So, if security is a big concern to you, its good to always keep it locked.
