Earlier this week, someone was able to get a temp. root on AT&T OJ7. Now, I don't pretend to be a developer or anything of the sort, but does anyone know if his method would be helpful to us?
Fingers crossed!

My antivirus didn't detect anything. It might depend on which site your downloading from. There is srs-root.com and srsroot.com. srsroot.com reports the site with a hyphen in it is a knockoff site.
The version from srs-root.com is an old version 4.7, the last version it supposed to be 5.1, there is not any website that you can download the 5.1 without virus warning, I am using firefox, from IE you will not warned.
Also, You mentioned 3 different address, the last two are the same and is there where I found virus.
Thanks for the advice

If you understood punctuation then you would understand that I mentioned only 2 sites. I downloaded 5.1 and avast did not report anything wrong with it.

So is there any confirmation with this working or no? Just curious.
Nevermind I found someone's tweet who claimed that srsroot doesn't root our phones on Verizon even though the website says it does. But has anyone had any luck despite this?

I just blocked the OTA easy:
And for the average user who doesn't browse these forums at all when they see an update its just normal for them and is not a big deal at all. They probably don't even check that site for update information either. If your so worried about an update just flash a custom recovery and you'll never have to worry about it again.

I rooted my S4 after it was hit with the MF3 update with the new root method posted last month. I have read that it cannot be unrooted. having said that, I wanted to unroot. This is how I approached it.
I went to a best buy store where they had a Samsung kiosk. On the counter, I saw a laptop which had a program for re-flashing to factory firmware. The guy kindly re-flashed my phone with the MF3. At first it said it was already installed but it gave the option of continuing. After the re-flash, I tried the su apps and the did not work anymore. So, whether it totally worked or not, i don't know. but that's my story hope it helps you.

Dont know why Samsung would care. AT&T is the one locking the phones up. Maybe I will take a ride to the Samsung kiosk and see what I can talk them into . Who knows ? I will let everyone know later. If they do it, I will SURE try to see what they are using, and the process... ! I will be sure to let everyone know .

I was literally doing the exact same thing this afternoon too. My friends phone has the newest OTA and is on firmware D80010q.
I tried the normal methods to no avail. I was able to get Superuser on the phone, however, didn't have root access. From what I've been able to come up with we have to downgrade to D80010d in order to root it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50354625&postcount=2121
I also am looking for some confirmations on what I mentioned above. Thanks!

Yeah its not my phone, its a girl who lives a few hours away. But if the rooting software isn't updated by the next time I see her (2 weeks or so), I'll most likely give it a shot. Post here or PM me and keep me updated on how it all goes. I found a youtube video that went through it and it doesn't seem that difficult.
Yea my friend isn't exactly close and she is likely to be deterred by any extra steps.
Does that video cover downgrading the software version back to d? If so post the link. If it's just a rooting a video I don't need it. I already rooted my Sprint G2.

Probably the someone. I know it was just a tweet, so maybe he was joking, but jcase tweeted about a month ago that he will no longer be providing anybody with any *unpatched* exploits. Based on the way people complain about him not "sharing" any exploits he has, I don't blame him. Anyway, I'd pin my hopes on somebody else.
Or, better yet, put the phone up on Swappa or something and go out and buy a developer edition of something, because that's your surest bet that you'll be able to root a phone going forward.

So your saying jcase probably has an exploit or two but he just doesn't want to release it to the public? Lol. That's messed up! I guess its just a waiting game until somebody else out there puts out an exploit for us non-rooters to use. *sigh* :/
P.S. : What do you mean you don't blame him???

I didn't say he had any exploits. I reported what he tweeted: he will not share any unpatched exploits. That means, I am pretty sure, that if he has any exploits (for any phones), he will wait until they are patched with an update before he shares it publicly, if he shares it at all, making it rather useless for somebody looking to root the phone with the exploit.
Here is the tweet: https://twitter.com/TeamAndIRC/status/460157450318929920
I am pretty sure it was in reference to a non-Moto device, but I'm sure he means the same for any device.
OK, here's a perfect example. Read this whole Twitter conversation between Jcase and some tool who thinks he's entitled to a root exploit.

That being said, how do you like it? any differences?

You will probably be waiting quite awhile.... As I stated in my thread, little to NO devs are working on root for the s9/+... I've seen one Korean user mention he was trying in another forum for us SD users, and ONE other guy... That's it, just 2 people and myself. Don't expect anything before Christmas.

These updates from sam firm science allowed a lot of us to get onto oreo beta. If you know how to recover your phone why is this a problem. OP explained the risk with the bootloader.

I may just go to international S9+ if there root seems like a false hope on the SD variant. The only issue would be VoLTE and WiFi calling, oh and Samsung suddenly restricting call recording apps on international variant. I tried flashing those Engboot from other thread with no luck btw.
