Looks like it was just a modem update. Nothing too serious.
Only difference that I can make our is teh baseband updated from G935TUVU1APB6 to G935TUVU1APB8
Modem updates are generally about that size too if I'm not mistaken.

So this should not effect the bootloader? Its the one thing most people are afraid of messing up in fear of no future root.

Hard to tell without looking at the actual update. They could have added something else into it that's just not showing up in the ABOUT section.
Got mine this morning as well.
Did it earlier this morning, so far so good, not noticing anything unusal.

Isn't the bootloader locked? I thought root was dead as it is.
Maybe its a quiet update that will allow us to unlock the bootloader . Anyone toy with it yet? Wishful thinking im sure, but stranger things have happened.

Software Update force closing.
I did the 41mb update we all got, and now every time it checks for software updates I get a force close. I haven't tried resetting yet, it's kind of a pain, but has anyone else encountered this?

During the update, it seemed the device goes into Download mode, flashes new radios and firmware. Yay stability?
For me boot time is noticeably slower, and I have more trouble with apps on the sd card not having icons/being available for much longer at boot than before the update. Tests of sd transfer speeds are somewhat slower post update.
After the update, my wireless connection is TERRIBLE.
At first I thought my wireless router, but everything else in the house works great :-\ If I turn off the wifi, everything is normal. I'm glad I have truly unlimited LTE, because this is going to be annoying until they release an update patch.
I've already booted to bootloader and cleared the cache, no help. It's like a delay in connecting to anything wireless... Speedtest won't run because it times out on the ping test.
Hangouts works, but it's delayed. When I type a message, it says, "sending...." for about 20 seconds before it sends. :-\
If this is a nuisance at work all day today, I'll probably just backup everything and push the original stock rom from KIES.

I would imagine force stopping the system update software would get rid of the message and then using something like Package Disabler Pro to disable it would prevent it from checking again.

Bought my GS4 yesturday, this morning around 10am i got an OTA that was about 28mb. Not sure what that OTA did because i cant find any change log anywhere or anybody else talking about it...does anybody know anything?
Build Number is JDQ39.I337MVLUAMDL
On Rogers in Canada
You should probably have put down Rogers on the thread title. I didn't receive anything but I am no AT&T. But one more thing, I was talking in this other thread with the Canadian carrier guys. Is your Contacts and phone app white or black / blue?
Even though I'm on AT&T, I am happy for Rogers customers. Can anyone elaborate on what this update does? Hopefully it addresses the lag?
On US AT&T and no OTA. I wouldn't download any OTA's though just in-case they address the hacked bootloader.
@geoldr: The OTA was launched by Samsung globally.
Good to see you again P-Pat! I got the notification, but rooted before installing in case there was patch to stop root. After I tried to install and it said my phone has been modified and updates are not available. I am now searching to figure out how to install this....

I'm a bit confused at this. Even if Samsung releases an update, we won't get it instantly because the carriers have to test it out and everything right? Hasn't this always been the case or am I missing something?

From what I have read, so far it has been launched on Sprint, Rogers and the international version. I am sure AT&T will come soon. Samsung launches the updates, but the carriers distribute them...that is why Android version updates have different timing for different carriers.

Somewhere I read they can force push security updates onto the phone without you even having to accept it. This is something I think they would do over the bootloader to prevent people from stopping the patch.

not always, i received 2 updates on the GS3 that were released from sammy and did not go through carrier testing, unless they did it so uniformly that it didnt seem like it, but then again, telus and bell got it the same day rogers did, but those updates were stability and securtiy related, they didnt bring any features, so i guess it really depends on what the updates changes
This link confirms what David Dee was saying, it also matches my build number and size of update

I haven't noticed any differences apart from an annoying problem. I get constant 'Prevention information' errors:
"An application has been forced to stop for an unauthorized attempt to access system in your device. It may be solved by the policy update service. It may be safe to delete an application obtained from an unauthorized route. Check now?"
If I try to use the 'Security policy update', it fails and says: 'Update failed due to network issues'.
My phone is not rooted and I don't have any dubious apps.

Personally I wouldn't update to it yet, it seems to enable Knox and/or secure things a bit more. So I've no longer got root (yep my own stupid fault I know - should have left well alone) and cannot now downgrade to an earlier firmware to enable root.
I'm really, really hoping someone comes up with a way to flash a firmware on this version as root was really useful for Tasker with SuperSU. Plea for help here.

So I'm running completely stock, never rooted Android 5.0 on my Nexus 5. I got the 5.0.1 update today and when I go to install, it gives me the dead android pic with "error". Anybody else having the same issue? Also, would me enabling developer options have anything to do with it?
P.S. Already cleared my cache partition and it's still giving me the error.

Except, like I said, I didn't. I did not root or unlock the bootloader or play around with the phone at all, strictly for this reason. I didn't want to go through the struggle of factory resetting my device every now and then. The closest thing to "modifying" the phone was me unlocking developer settings and I was asking if that could have something to do with it.
Every other thread on the forums has to do with people rooting so no, it's not like one of the millions of other threads.
Describe more.
The best way to update is by flashing the factory image in fastboot, i don`t trust/hate OTA`s personaly
I updated from kitkat to Lollipop with no issues from the OTA update. That was really recent and I haven't changed anything having to do with the system since then. Yet the 5.0.1 update is giving me the error message.
I'm trying to avoid doing a factory reset as that was the main reason that I've kept the phone completely stock. I figured not rooting the phone would let me update in peace and, since it's a nexus, it's been enough to handle my needs without any customization.

Just double checked and nope, bootloader is locked. Yeah :/ I was trying to see if it's an issue with anybody else on completely stock devices. So far mine is a no go, even though the 5.0 update worked flawlessly. Why would the 5.0 update go through, yet the 5.0.1 believes the system has been modified..?

Well, there's a way to get the ota but it is going to be tedious. It involves rooting with towelroot, then using bootunlocker from the play store. That'll allow you to unlock the bootloader without wiping your device. Then you'll need to flash the system, boot, and recovery image with fastboot from the 5.0 factory image. Then do the ota.

Thanks! I may just wait until the next update and see if there's a chance it'll work. Or I may just have to do a fresh new install which I am not looking forward to at all Lol. But thank you for your help!
Uhhhh, ok. So I'm not exactly sure what happened. I figured I'd give the OTA another try because why not...and it worked I noticed it downloaded a bigger file too, 30ish mb as opposed to the 13mb OTA that would give me an error. Not sure if I got sent a wrong update file or what, but if your issue comes close to what I experienced, just keep trying the OTA update. I'm also on T-Mobile (phone bought directly from T-Mobile) in case that makes any difference.
Just today around 5am pst I got a software update for my s7 has anyone else got it? Should I update or avoid it? I attached two screenshots of what It says!

I don't think we will ever see that fixed the right way. I'm 99% convinced it's a hardware issue.
My update is running now. Agree the update is pretty big. If this fixes battery drain, no need for root for me.... Between package disabler pro + runtime permissions, not much is needed anymore for root. The only thing is some are saying if you use package disabler pro, there can be more battery issues than not because the OS tries to reference those disabled packages. I'm not sure how that would be any different though if you froze them with titanium backup or something

The last paragraph says it all. If someone is working on an exploit to unlock the bootloader in it's current state, and you take the update, * After updating , you will not be able to downgrade to the old software because of updates to the security policy. * Then you would need to wait for the next exploit to come out to get past the new security updates.
Whatever, the phone is great stock with package disabler. Only thing I might want root for is unlimited tethering.
So I was away from my computer when the January Security update came out so Im on the December update.

Time to start clearing data on the dialer related apps, or reset the phone. I am hopeful that will help you. If it was soley update related the forum would be blowing up with complaints.
