T-Mobile USA Galaxy S7 BOGO - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Has everyone heard about the BOGO?
What's the best way to take advantage of the situation and end up with 2 phones and one line?

I did this on the 11th. But you have to add a line to get the free phone.
My steps:
1. Add a line
2. Purchase both phones. They will be on their payment plan. You will have to pay all the taxes and a possible down payment (depending on your account/credit) on BOTH PHONES UPFRONT!!
3. Sign up for rebate immediately. You have to use the new line's number to do the rebate.
4. Wait until you have your rebate IN HAND. (At most 8 weeks). This means you'll have to pay for about 2 months of the line and payments on the phone (~$30/per phone/month).
5. Use rebate card (which will be full amount of the phone's price) to pay off the 2nd phone and cancel the extra line. Some people say they are shady about canceling lines right away, but 3 different T-Mobile reps on 611 told me to do it this way. You'll still have the first 2 month's worth of EIP payments left on the gift card.
Hope this helps! It also works on the EDGE but it has a mandatory down payment of ~$50. Good luck. I'm having a blast with the phone so far. Just hoping for root.

I got the bogo.
I had 2 lines. I upgraded one line added another line for the bogo. So 3 lines in total. But the store I went to said there's no rebate, theyll just deduct the eip payment from the bogo but I just keep paying for the other one till it's paid off.
What I'm thinking about doing now is just pay off the phone and they'll just release the bogo phone to me right? And then cancel the lines?

Trickery!

That's tricky.
The phone is not really free, it just gets paid for externally.
They're not giving you the rebate so you won't cancel the line.
If there's no line then no one's paying the EIP and the phone is never paid for.
You should ask for a rebate.

Are you sure about that? I used the main number on my account and it showed I was eligible. It's under review now.

I ordered my 4 line plan on March 2nd. And I was told I have to get a new line. So here's what I did and will do.
I got a new line and got the BOGO deal on GS7.
After I get the MasterCard rebate card, pay the phone off.
Transfer the number I'm using to the new line and cancel the old line.
I told this to sales and they said it was totally OK. And told me to make sure not to cancel the BOGO line (sim) or I will be charged full price of the phone.

TBH, I'm not 100% sure if you have to use the new line for the rebate. But it's what all 3 reps told me. I also played it safe cuz, IMO, it's still very much worth paying $10/month for 2 months for a new phone.

Yea I forgot to mention that as well, I was told to keep the new line with the bogo if I wanted to cancel any lines and keep the phone. Totally fine with a new number. lol.

I am an att customer and interested in only buying the device.. no intention of moving to tmobile.. Is it okay to close both lines? or should I have to maintain at least one line.. if so for how many years?

Only one device is free.
You'll have to pay full price for the phone that's not free as soon as you cancel the line.

oh yeah absolutely.. I get that.. my only concern was if I cancel both lines.. would they ask me to pay for both phones and etf.. as long as I pay for one device and cancel out all my lines.. I am fine with it.

There is no ETF because there is no contract.
1. You'll have to pay for one phone
2. Get your rebate on the "free" phone
3. PAY OFF THE FREE PHONE WITH THE REBATE
4. Cancel both lines

That's what I told as well. 2 months to process the rebate. But I would record the conversation with customer service before canceling the BOGO line.

Hey I tried to do this online and they'r asking me to choose a family plan, did you do it in store or over the phone?
Also what plan did you get on the dummy line? Did you just say "Let me get the cheapest possible plan..."?

I did it in store to avoid shipping/waiting (I'm impatient). I already had an account with 4 lines for $100. So I added the "dummy" line for $10/month. So for me it's only going to come out to ~$20 w/taxes because I also get a 20% corporate discount.
Edit: forgot to mention they did charge me a $20 sim card fee for the dummy line. They tried to charge me another $20 for my existing line but I talked them out of it. (I'm Indian and don't ever pay mode than I have to! LOL)

Sim card fee? I ordered over the phone and it came with a new sim card in the box. No extra charge. I put my old sim card into the new phone and used the new sim card to activate free data for life on an older tablet

Bought phone on launch..

and paid 200 bucks.. think there is any way i can get att to give me a better deal since i can get it for free at walmart???
From what I read, the only way you can get it for free is if you sign up for an AT&T account that is way higher than standard.
I could be wrong though.
I thgt tht i could get a good discount on my captivate phone, but the sales rep told me at the ATT store that if anyone was eligible for an upgrade it would show automatically on their account.
He said the ATT software runs some "algorithms" based on the prev history, plans etc etc..
The walmart eligibility requires tht u should be on a plan paying $100 or more for month for the past year and no upgrade has been made on the phone over some period, Additional points if u have a lower rate plan.
Bottomline, not everyone can get the phone for free at walmart. Likewise not everyone can get the $50 off on the $199 contract plan.
My phone cost me $199 + $45 (9.25% on the original price of $499) in California. can anyone in CA confirm this?
Thanks

That's what I paid at BB in SoCal
Why would you pay tax on the full price of the phone? I was only taxed for the $200 price. I live in Arizona though, different taxing methods in CA?
That's how Apple does it too. They tax the highest price.
i was only charged tax on the actual purchase price of $199.99 in socal... but then again, this was a manager override because the stores were having issues with the actual pricing when the barcode was scanned...

The sales rep who processed my phone told me tht many times ppl aren't charged the tax while buying the phone but it reflects in the first bill and then they hav customers coming in and demanding explanations from them.
So better watch out for this in the first bill

I think you need to change ur signature now.. change status to "Obtained..."
--------------
Captivate(d)
I just ordered it from Walmart as an upgrade on my plan.
They told me it has to be the primary phone if it's a family plan. The secondary lines aren't eligible for the free price. I had the old 550 minutes plan, which I had to change up to 700 minutes. After my discount thru work, it was $8 more than I pay now. Other than that, they told me I just have to maintain that plan for 6 months to avoid charged from them, and I'll get the phone for free.
I guess it could come back from AT&T as a "NO" when they check with them, but I checked 6 ways from Sunday with them and they said I was eligible for any upgrade.
Im in CA too, the tax is just crazy
but one way around it is to get your phone off amazon wireless, which doesnt have tax for CA (yet)
technically your supposed to report that in your taxes but no one does

The only way, I thing, would be to go back to AT&T and use your 30 day money back (except $30 for restocking) and the buy your phone at walmart

exactly what i did.. the guy at the att store told me to call and complain about he 30 restocking fee and they'll credit my account.. free phone will be here thursday!
If you buy it through Amazon wireless, you pay no tax in CA.
You could try bringing in a printout of the deal but as its been pointed out there are a lot of stipulations to get the fee price and you are agreeing that if you change your account they can charge you thee full retail price of the phone.

TMobile ETF Question

Hey Guys,
I just opened up a new line with TMobile for my new job and got the One S.
I submitted the rebate, (which I did not know at the time forbids you to return the phone for a refund after applying for the rebate.)
I then found out that I have to purchase my work phone through Verizon and will not be able to use the new One S. The account has been opened for about 6 weeks now and should get the 100 dollar rebate in another 2.
When I ETF this acccount and pay the 200 bucks, do I get to keep the phone after paying to cancel the contract?
Dont know what to do in this case. Any suggestions will help.
Thanks!
If you pay off the contract then the phone is yours.
In my case, The One S was a ''free gift'' and the money i pay is for the line rental. So if i pay my ETF (which is about £210) the phone is mine
not bad considering the phone is £400 new lol

Same here, after the rebate, I will probably pay the etf and switch to tmobile prepaid. It will take about a year to make up the difference in plan cost.

Is the prepay cheaper?
Also to the OP, if your from the states and want to sell you're one s shoot me a message. I could always use a backup.
What about this scenario...you buy the phone, sign up for the cheapest plan you can, then cancel as soon as the return period has expired?
You can get the phone for $99.99 ($49.99 if you count the mail in rebate), assume $30-50 for the one month of service, $200 ETF...you get a $600 phone for $350+/-...
question is then...can you then sign up for a value plan or would you have to wait?
Rebate will take up to 10 weeks plans will run you from 70 to 85 plus taxes, 35 bucks to activate. Chances are that you won't get your rebate within a month since ups for example don't deliver to p.o boxes. Even if you get the phone for 50 dollars after rebate you would spend 300+ dollars on services. Keep mind that T-Mobile has no warranty for your phone in pre paid so you have to deal with HTC directly. The original warranty will be voided as soon as you installed the pre paid sim card.
If you want to sign up for the value plan your phone will still not be on warranty so why do the 2 year contract. 200 dollars more would be involve again in ETF of the value so you wouldn't save money.

i don't see any reason why the warranty would be voided if you switch over to Tmobile monthly4g...and if you buy the phone new at full price and sign up for the monthly4g plan you should still have warranty.
Opening a regular account and switching to pre paid will mean a Different account, if I were you ill keep the receipt just in case. On pre paid for obvious reasons you have to send the phone first to get replaced if it has warranty. Even your saved voicemails are lost when you switch over along with your tmobile back up so I'm pretty sure warranty will not be verified either.

To whoever asked about Value Plans...that's a postpaid account. So if you open a postpaid account, close it and try to open another postpaid account, they will reopen the original account.

I'd like to cancel my plan, and I think I will because the service blows. But with the app lock, I can't unlock it for 40 days. I even called and told them I was going out of the country, but they sent me an email denying my unlock.
Here's my question: The original purchase of the phone came with a $50 charge for the plan. Then I just paid $57 for the first month. If I cancel now, will that original $50 I paid and the $57 get me the 2 months of service that I need in order for the unlock?
EDIT: I just called again. I didn't pay $50 for the first month, so they say. Also, I have to wait out the "buyers remorse" 14 days before they will submit the phone for unlock under the "international traveling" exception.
Also on 30 a month prepaid Walmart plan here. I was told I would need to buy in store this Friday
Hey fellas...I have the answer you seek because I just paid full price for mine also on the $30 plan
I started a new line of service, paid the $50 no credit check payment, paid for the phone full price. Otherwise you can't buy the phone outright (yet) So once I know my promotional gifts have been accepted and sent to me I'll cancel this line and get my $50 back via a prepaid card.

Please make sure that you added a line, and meet the requirements. If you do, submit your rebate redemption at www.t-mobile.com/promotions no later than 30 days after the purchase of the second device.
When do I have to complete the rebate by?
You must complete your rebate submission within 30 days of the purchase of your second eligible device.
Is there a way to track my online rebate?
If you want to track your online rebate, please go to www.t-mobile.com/promotions and use the “Promotion Status” link in the upper left hand corner.

The question is if people who bought the phone in full can just return the phone and get this offer. Because it doesn't make sense to leave a free phone on the table.

It requires an added line - probably with some tough requirements

Yea the newly added line requires a 24-mo financial agreement.

That's true a new line is a must. Since my wife doesn't care about her number, we got her a new line and will cancel her old one. I called and confirmed this and the new phone is on the way.

The leaked offer became official. Here is the article. I read that people who pre-ordered, still can go for it.

Just got the BOGO offer. Dialed 611, told them I wanted to add a line. From there, once I was connected with Sales, I told them I preordered a S7 Edge (I already have it, but I didn't mention that--even though it's pretty obvious since I'm a new customer and wouldn't be able to dial 611 from my old phone lol) and wanted to preorder another one so that I can do the BOGO offer. CSR didn't know about the offer yet, so he asked supervisor. As long as you order it before your order is completed (so before launch I'm guessing?), you are eligible for the BOGO. Paid about $460, have my order already being processed and almost ready to ship.
Once you get it you have to apply for the rebate I guess and you get the card with all the money for the device on it... Still charged monthly for it.. Only thing I wish is that device is just waived from bill. I guess you can still do that by using the card to directly pay off the EIP though..
TLDR; everyone here that has the phone or preorder it can still take advantage of this offer.
Great deal, came at a time where I was actually going to buy another phone for my boyfriend anyways, so I'm pretty stoked I got it for free lol.
Edit: The promocode doesn't work yet. But you have 30 days to submit the offer anyways.

Did the same thing and they didn't even care if I had the S7 Edge already and I told them that I would cancel my other line and they said as long as you add a line that's all they care about. So there ya go.
Wonder if i can do this and still get the VR headset and netflix.
As long as you regester device before the end date for that. This doesn't affect the pre-order bonus.

Cool. will do
Thinking about getting my brother a phone to replace his LG G3 with this. Anyone see a reason the below scenario won't work?
I was going to pickup an S7 tomorrow in store and add a new line in order to get the BOGO from my S7 Edge. After activating it, take the SIM out and put his in it. Although we'll initially have to pay $10 + EIP for the S7, once the reimbursement card comes in the mail, I'd pay off the EIP and the phone would be owned outright. I'd then cancel the new line and get the $10 off my account. The only hitch I see is that cancelling the line makes the full balance due on the phone, but it would be paid off in full, so that wouldn't affect anything.
Am I missing anything obvious?

Double check but i think someone said you have to keep the line for 24months.

I think you'd have to keep the line, and you're correct about the full balance when cancelling the line. Also keep in mind, that this wipes out the Jump on Demand if you're on it. The guy at the store told me that they're trying to get rid of the JOD anyways. So, technically you'd have to keep the phone for 24 months.
Man I bought mine outright... I am dissapointed right now. Now I have to jump through hoops just to get one free... I hope they can make exceptions for people.

The fine print I read does mention the full balance coming due if cancelled, but that would be $0 if paid off using the card. Unless it's like a cable TV agreement when you receive the $400 card and is essentially a 2 year agreement to keep the device active.

Worst case, return the phone and immediately re-buy it on EIP. Wait a week and pay off the balance.
jump through hoops. such a pain and i gave to do it and wait a few weeks potentially

T-Mobile doesn't technically do 24 month contracts anymore. As long as you pay off your EIP for the phone, you are good to close the line. I would keep the line open for 2-3 months to be safe so the rebate can be fully processed.

$145 Essential Phone on Sprint!

The essential phone is currently $145 on sprint!! Not a promo. This is the new normal pricing. This is basically a steal!!
Is there a way to buy it, pay off the contract and unlock? What would be the total cost? I am going to visit US in December and that might be a deal I am looking for, if possible.

You might want to go to the Sprint website and do a little more reading. The $5 x 18 months is a lease price. If you want to purchase it after your lease ends you still have to pay the difference between retail $699.99 and what you've paid in on the lease. The full retail price is listed as $699.99 as of a few minutes ago.

The buy out is 30.00(written on contract) for this phone as I did the lease (5.00X18) = STEAL:good:
To unlock the device if going this route you have to have the phone activated on their Network for 50 days

Nope, it's actually $145 (plus taxes) Activation can be waived through purchasing online, otherwise I believe it is $30 instore. $25 down, $5/month (flexlease) then a $30 payoff after the lease payments are complete. Yes you can pay the lease off early then payoff the phone. Getting it unlocked immediately after is a little more complicated/"hit or miss". Many people are able to unlock right after paying it off, others have been told they have to stay on Sprint for 50 days. You do have to upgrade/add a line or open an account.
But the price is confirmed and there is many accounts of this in the https://www.reddit.com/r/essential/ subreddit.

I just got this price on it last night, buying the phone through Best Buy.
I thought the buyout price was still $175 at Sprint stores or sprint.com, rather than the $30 that's showing up at Best Buy... but maybe not?
I had my phone paid for and unlocked within 12 hours of receiving.
25 down + 90 + 30 + taxes
I can verify first hand this is legit. View my post history where I went into more detail in another thread.
Okay I stand corrected. Online it still shows that info on the site. I guess they have a special "pay off" price.
Just signed up for this one. Phone should be here Tuesday. Contract shows $25 down, $5 a month for 18 months with buyout of $30. With taxes my total is $157.
I'll report back when I pay it off and any issues with it.

I didn't even have to deal with customer support. Paid off the phone, next day went to UICC unlock in the phone menu, it unlocked fine. Put in an AT&T sim to test out calls and data work just fine.

Don't worry if it isn't unlocked yet tomorrow either. Took mine two days after paying it off before I could do the UICC unlock, but it's been working great ever since.
I'm new in the US and i dont know how the contract works, i went to Sprint store to buy this and they told me that i'll have to get a plan with the phone which was 45$ a month. I wanna know if there's a way to get just the phone and not the plan. And if i have a friend who uses sprint, can i get the phone showing his plan and not getting any new plan?

You have to get the plan, but you can transfer it or cancel it anytime. What I did (as recommended by the internet) is the following: Get the phone and the $45 plan, pay off the lease, wait +-2 days until the phone is unlocked, then get this simcard off of amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B013OUS19E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You then transfer your sprint line to that simcard. Because it is a pay as you go sim you don't have to pay anything for it and can just let the number die, at the same time it will disappear from your sprint account and because the month wasn't over yet you won't be charged for it.
The only problem if you're new to the us might be your credit score. If you don't have one or it's low then I don't think they'll approve you for the lease.

You can buy the phone directly from essential website with no contracts. You can buy it from Amazon with no contracts. And you can buy it from Best Buy with no contracts. The price is $499.09 from essential and Amazon, and sometimes it's $449.00 at Best Buy.

Phone was locked right off the bat, online order. I popped in the Cricket sim before the Sprint with no luck. Popped the Sprint sim back in, let it register on the network and then called customer service. Pay off was $120 on top of the $37 i had already paid, so $157 total. Amount matched the lease with purchase price option (buyout)
Requested the phone unlocked for international travel and the agent put in the request and I have the confirmation #'s for ending the lease and the request for phone unlock. Told 3-5 business days for unlock. We will see how it goes. Plan to check the UICC button over holiday weekend.
