Just got my S7 and see this tiny USB-A connector. What's that for?

OTG connection for OTG and wired phone info swap. I have seen some reports that some people go a Micro USB to USB-C connector, but I think they might have confused the OTG connector for a USB-c adaptor. Others say they didn't get any kind of connector at all in their box.

lucky you!! someone must have stolen mine out of my Verizon s7 box before they shipped it to me, because i didn't get one!
so i *****ed to best buy, and they gave me a $15 credit, to which they said i can goto the store and buy the samsung adapter myself..i was like sure why not. it's not a small little piece, but it's got the wire so it's a little longer.
still, i'm glad best buy customer support was cool about it!

I would recommend monoprice.com or amazon. You can get a stack of micro-usb cables for <$10 normally.

Generic charger will work fine as long as the plug is Micro USB. Never buy cables in stores unless you're cool with 1000% markup

no markup if you know the right people in a local shop
not so fast
So you SHOULD be able to use any old usb cable, but its not always the case. I tried to use my Kindle USB cable on my fascinate and it DID charge it, but would NOT allow me to mount the SD card on the host computer. On closer inspection it LOOKS like the cable wouldn't go in all the way. Tried a differant cable and it worked fine.
The odds are that any cable WILL work, just sayin that sometimes...
I got a couple micros today from
monoprice and they don't sit all the way in but are enough to transfer if you don't bump the phone. My plan is to file or dremel the plastic head a little this weekend.
The receptacle is recessed just far enough to keep the plug from fully engaging.

My kindle cable works.. It's the latest Kindle, not sure if yours is older or not. It doesn't sit flush, but as long as you're not playing catch with the thing while it's plugged it's fine. I do all my adb work over that cable.

same issue here. I get all my cables from monoprice. Too bad the micro head is too fat, but filing it down is a good idea. I need to try that.
This one (OEM Samsung, but from another model) is cheap and works fine.
Can anyone recommend a long (6' +)USB cable that's compatible with the Touchpad? I bought a 6' from Ebay, but it was crappy. I could not use it to connect to PC, and the charging takes longer than the normal USB cable that came with TP.

I just posted that I found a compatible 6' cable (actually a pair of them at Meritline for $4.99 after using the discount code). The description on Meritline says that the cable they're selling is compatible with the Evo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475537
Let me know if the code still works.
The Meritline link is for HDMI cable, not USB. I was not able to find any micro USB cable there that say it's compatible with the EVO.
The Walmart product comes with a 5' USB cable. I think that's sufficient for me. Thanks!
This one from Amazon has been flawless for me.
Sorry, can't post links. Search B006DCSUB0 . That is the ASIN# on Amazon.
Exactly the one I was going to order. Glad it works!

Heya,
I have a tablet stand and the cable delivered in the box doesn't fit under the tablet when on the stand.
That's why I'm thinking about purchasing an angled USB OTG cable.
But here's the thing:
Other OTG cables doesn't seem to work? I already purchased a normal OTG cable (just like the one which was delivered in the box), but that one doesn't function.. Do I have a faulty one or will the out of the box OTG cable be the only one which works properly?
Hi
I bought a few cheap ones on ebay. Angled or straight and all work well on my A700 or Galaxy Note.
Just one decided to die after months in my pocket near knife and keys but that's my fault
I guess you got a faulty one.

Turn the tablet upside down, problem solved!!!!
@Itchiee, possbile, but ugly. Also, I don't think that works with every app out there. Was also curious if somebody else experienced this problem.
@laloutre, thank you for your reply. I think it is a faulty one then It didn't work either with my phone, but I guessed it didn't support OTG. Stupid online company. I also bought a usb hub there which also didn't work..
There are USB connectors/adapters out there that are not specified as OTG compliant; these won't work. I got my OTG cheapie from Amazon & it works perfectly:

Most of the dealers are Hong Kong but a few are in CA. Worth the $2.
Does anyone know where you can buy good quality Usb 3.0 data cable for S5.
I bought two from amazon (AmazonBasics USB Cable - 3.0 A Male to Micro B (6 Feet / 1.8 Meters)) but they are not working for me,
on one cable connector is to thick for phone to plug in and when i plug in the other in to a PC nothing happens ( using original Samsung cable connect phone to PC just fine.)
Thanks
I know nothing about these but I was watching a review and this guy said it worked perfect for his s5. May I ask what is the purpose of these cords

weird..I have 2 diffrent usb 3 data cable from external harddrive and it works just fine
Keep an eye on monoprice.com they have the best deals on cables for sure and they are always high-quality cables. I don't see the USB 3 to micro on there just yet though.
Just sent them an email to see if they plan to carry them (i'm sure they will) and if so when they might be available. I'll post their reply.
You just go amazon or ebuy and throw your word "USB 3.0 data cable" And i think you must be select good reviewer product. and i think you can find a good 3.0 data cable from ebuy and amazon.. Just search your item..
I have Honestly no way to understand how Motorola will now refuse to sell the USB C headphone adaptor to its customers that pay 750.00 on the MOTO Z FORCE. I honestly can not believe I purchased this phone and NO WAY TO UNLOCK (Verizon) OR ROOT???????!!!!!!!!!!
If you purchase this adaptor on amazon or ebay you will not find one that works or it will not last long so does anyone one have a suggestion as to how we can find this Adaptor??? Can't get it from Verizon or Motorola so what do we do????
Perhaps they didn't understand what you wanted? Anyway, there have been threads like this before. Here are a couple:

I ended up getting a replacement for free. When you call, be nice and try to speak clearly. If the person you talk to won't help you, call again. Don't ask for a free one, just explain your situation. If they don't offer to send you one call and talk to someone else.
I also ordered these ones from Amazon;
Rancco Type C to 3.5mm Audio Headphone Stereo Adapter Connector, 2 Pcs USB 3.1/ USB C to 3.5mm Audio Microphone Female Adapter for New Macbook 2015, XPS13, CDLA, Headphone,Type C Port Devices https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KJNN2PW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wjVoybJNM7C2R
They work just like the original. I ended up using shrink tubing to "permanently" attach an adapter to my main pair of headphones. The other I use in my with truck.

they transferred me to another dept, where person took all my info, IMEI of phone and shipping address. Told me a manager will get back to me via email if any are available. but the next day the only email I received was with the FedEx tracking number saying that my order had shipped.)
This Method does work, But please note they will ask for IMEI Number to see if you have warranty in my case i do with extended warranty and i was then told it would take 3 to 5 days but the adapter is on the way.
Hope this helps.

Intersting. The description says they're CDLA, That should mean they have a DAC built in. How do they sound?

I can't hear a difference between using the included adapter and the one from Amazon.

I have the Rancco adaptor from Amazon, too. I can't tell the difference between the one that came with the Z and the Rancco (as far as sound). They sound great. It was $6.99 for two.
