Lockscreen Bug - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Can anyone confirm whether this happens to them. I have fingerprint lock with either a pin or pattern as backup.
If on the lockscreen I swipe the screen rather than use the fingerprint lock the pin/pattern screen comes up with the blurb "Use Fingerprint or draw unlock pattern" However when i then put my finger on the scanner it doesn't register, its as if i haven't put my finger on the button. The only way I can access is via inputting pattern/pin. Once i have done this i can repeat by locking the screen and swiping and the reader registers.
However if i leave the phone for 10-15 minutes it then goes back to not registering the fingerprint on the pin/pattern screen again?
Anyone else getting this?

Getting the exact same issue on the Galaxy S7Edge with Australian firmware, and it completely ruins the usefulness of the fingerprint unlock method.
It's definitely a bug in the software - a few people have already experienced the exact same issue we have encountered over at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/help/fingerprint-reader-half-lockscreen-t3341574
Hopefully Samsung are at least aware of the issue and can patch it..

I had something called lock screen launcher or something like that I did uninstall it and it was normal again

Can't lock S6 anymore!

Hi all,
I have a very strange issue since today. I used the fingerprint to lock/unlock my device which worked very nice; until today.
If I place my finger onto the home button it will not unlock the S6 anymore! But, I can unlock it easily just swipe my finger over the screen. Seems there is no protection anymore. I changed the settings to unlock with pin, but here the same issue. The S6 don't ask me for a pin and I can unlock it by just swipe my finger over the screen.
If I restart the phone, it will ask me the first time for pin/fingerprint. But after the first unlock it is unlocked like above.
Any body else with this issue?
BTW, the home button feels a little loose since todat too, but the issue is also by pin unlock etc.

Fingerprint While Screen is Off?

My wife just got her S8+, and we were trying to get the fingerprint sensor too unlock to the home screen the way her pixel would. The way it works now, she has to awkwardly reach for the sensor, then swipe up to unlock the device. Any suggestions, or are we out of luck unless Samsung devices to make this a feature in an update?
Did you enable 'Fingerprint unlock' in the settings? I'm able to unlock my S8+ while the screen is off just by putting my finger over the scanner without swiping anything.
I'm not sure of this caused it, but we ran a system update and it started working as expected. Again it may be a coincidence, but it started working right after the update. Mods can delete this thread of they want, it's not a relevant question since it seems to have been a bug.

Yeah, same here
How is the fingerprint unlock supposed to work? On my Nexus 6P, with the screen off, you just put your finger over the sensor and the phone turned on, unlocked. But it seems the S8 requires you to push the power button, then use the fingerprint scanner. Is that correct? Is there a way to have the fingerprint sensor turn on the screen?
(Yes, I do have "fingerprint unlock" turned on in settings.)

I don't have to push my power button to get it to unlock. I just place my finger over the sensor with the screen off and it works instantly and doesn't show the lock screen.
Don't delete it, I almost gave up on this option, reading this made me try again and it's much improved, thanks!
Interesting. I'm not sure what I'm missing, but I can't get mine to do that.
Edit: I may have bigger problems. I can't actually get the phone to lock. I have smart lock turned off and only pattern selected for screen unlock type, but I can just swipe on the lock screen and go to the home screen, without entering the pattern. I assume these two issues are related.
Further edit: OK, the second issue was because of the "secured lock time" setting. So, unrelated.

Well, I got it to work. It actually was the "secured lock time" setting. Basically, if the phone isn't actually locked (because the time in that setting hasn't passed), even though the screen is off, the fingerprint sensor won't wake it. But if more than the set time has elapsed, it does.
Not the best design, but that explains it. My advice: set the secured lock time to zero ("instantly with the power key or when the screen times out").

Hmmn, I have mine lock instantly via power button and tried it... Still works for me
I didn't explain it well. Locking instantly is the way to go.
For some reason, it's set up to use biometrics only if the screen is locked, not just off.

Both mine and my wife's works exceptionally well.

Posted this before but with all the setting correct.
You can simply put your finger on the sensor and it will unlock right to the home screen.
You need to habe the finger print unlock turb on.
This has to be my favorite feature on this phone, beside using it to pull the notification bar down

Does it work on s7 edge?
Is there anyway so I can unlock my phone when it's off using fingerprints?

This is the S8+ forum. You would get a better response in the S7 Edge forums.

HTC U11 Screen off without locking

I have an HTC U11, upgrading from the HTC ONE M9.
On the M9 I used a utility app called "Screen Off & Lock" which worked really well, since I wanted it to lock.
But on the U11, if you lock it, you can't turn it back on with just the finger print scanner. You have to also use your passcode to unlock.
I need an application that functions exactly like the sleep time expiring, so that the screen shuts off and is unlockable with the scanner and not the pin.
I've tried... a TON of different applications, many that claim to do this. None of them do this. They all lock the screen and the finger print scanner won't work until it's unlocked.
Anyone?
In essence, I need something that simulates the power button, which does NOT lock the screen. It just puts it to sleep.
Again, no luck with the dozen or so apps I've tried.

Still hoping for a solution.
Yes very annoying, I get the power button confused with my Vol - button all the time.
I bought Gravity Screen some time ago and it at least has an option for SmartLock and fingerprint readers. I'm testing it now. It works, but it isn't ideal as there are some bugs with the screen not waking fully or too long of a delay after the fingerprint is read correctly.
I'm not sure I'll keep it up and running, but it may be an option for you.

I might totally be misreading this, sorry if I am. But check in settings/security or lock screen and go to secure lock screen of you have that and see if those options fix it.
Going to hopefully bump this up, as this is still an issue.
As clearly as possible:
- On the HTC U11, if you hit the power button, you can unlock the phone with your fingerprint OR using your PIN.
- All of the screen-off utilities lock the phone and then require the PIN to unlock and will not respond to fingerprint.
- I do not want to disable or alter the security settings of the phone, since this is, obviously, already something the phone can do without changes.
Has anyone created a utility that works for the U11 yet?
For me, I'm using Nova Launcher with double tap to sleep. The remaining problem is that Nova launcher just turn the screen into black and navigation buttons is still functioning for the next 5 seconds. I have to wait for 5 seconds so that I can put it into my pocket. Otherwise, the screen can be accidentally turned on.

Achieving NO lock screen, as apposed to replacing it with a swipe-screen

I would very much appreciate any thoughts anyone has on tackling the following:
OK, so if you have lock screen switched off, your device goes straight in, with no unlock or swipe screen whatsover. All good.
If, as I do, you use "trusted devices", this theoretically bypasses the lock screen and gives the same effect. Except that it's doesn't. What you get is a swipe-away screen instead of the lock screen.
Does anyone know a legitimate way, or a fix or crack or tweak, or a 3rd party app, that gets rid of the swipe-away screen, so that using a trusted device or location to bypass lock actually does so, giving the same result as not having lock switched on at all, rather than just replacing the lock screen with a swipe screen? Many thanks.

It really depends on your phone. When my phone enters my car and is connected via bluetooth, its a trusted device. I simply can turn my phone on and it will work without a lock screen. I'm using an S8.
Then again, if I did have a swipe screen, its the same thing as having no lock because you dont even have to swipe to open the phone. Not worth trying to look for a 3rd party app for something so minor, in my opinion.

OP 6 Automatically unlocks

Hi,
I have a problem with my OP6. I hae the latest OOS 5.1.11.
When I have the phone in my pocket, it's locked, than quite often when pulling out of the pocket I naturally grab it the way, that mu thumb is in the screen (I am not touching the fingerprint sensor) and when I take it out of the pocket, the screen unlocks itself.
Is this problem related to the issues people have posted regarding pocket mode not working and allowing to unlick with fingerprint while still in pocket or another bug or maybe hardware issue?
Thanks
face unlock??
No, its even before it's able to "see" my face. I just feel a small vibration under my finger and it unlocks. Also, for face unlock to be activated I would need to wake up the screen, but the problem is, it wakes up on it's own.

I think you have enabled the 'double tap to wake' option. Sometimes when you hold the phone and touch the screen, it recognizes it as if you double tap it, and then face unlock kicks in. I personally have enabled an extra required swipe up after face unlock to unlock my phone as a solution.
Yes, I have been using double tap to wake, and everything was fine, as I have the phone since the launch. I have started noticing the issues recently. Also, if just touching the screen activates the "double tap" then obviously something is not right, because it happens quite often. I have disabled pocket mode for now to see if anything changes.
