A bunch of stupid questions on 4.0 MM - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I updated 2 Sheilds to the 4.0 MM os and have a few questions. Please help if you know the answers
1. Do I have to swipe and select USB Transfer Files everytime I connect to a PC so I can see my files and folders in Windows? It defaults to Charge Only everytime I connect it.
2. I formatted the 64 GB SDCARD up as Internal. I cant see the folder anymore in Windows for it, only the Internal Storage drive shows under the Tablet, and its 11.6GB in size (WiFi 16GB tablet) Is this intended? Is the card only usable by the OS now? If I set it as Portable, would I still be able to move/install apps to it the same as Internal mode AND access it via Windows Explorer?
3. On the desktop I have a row of icons for some apps I use on a regular. However, there is a small white dot underneath the icons and the white circle shortcut for "Apps" is below that, I cant do **** with this shorcut and its annoying me. If I turn the tablet landscape the cicle shortcut will appear on the far right of the screen. I cant long hold/move it like any other icons, it just opens "All apps"

program icon left in menu

umm kind of stuck , i installed a program on my xda and i did not like it so I have now removed it using remove programs...... it has left an icon behind in the programs menu how do i get rid of it? do i need registy editor if so where can i get one?
no need. if you've completely uninstalled the app you can simply use file explorer in your xda. go to my device - windows - start menu - programs. look for the icon; click and hold for 3 seconds until the little menu box comes up; click delete and there you go.
or...when your unit is in sync with your pc you can use your computer's file explorer to go to the programs folder of the xda and delete it from there.
been there done that
When I go into the programs menu and select the icon I want to get rid of, I hold it for 3 secs and nothing happens... no menu to cut/copy delete ect. Also when I browse through the xda with my laptop there is no icons/program files in both "windows/programs" and "device/program files"..... I used a registry viewer and there are still a couple of entries in the registry of the device refering to the program icon i want to get rid of as it is now uninstalled.....is there a "regedit" type programme for the xda?
that's strange. when i install a program i normally transfer the icon to one of my designated today menu folders (like games, accessories, etc). when i uninstall it, the icon is left in the folder but now it's only a white rectangular box. previously; say the app was pacman; the icon would be in the shape of pacman. once uninstalled, it becomes a white rectangle with no function. is this the same as the one you have?
when i use file explorer; i then go to the folder where the useless icon is located. i then hold the stylus on it for like 2-3 seconds and the small menu box should pop up with the options of deleting.
normally uninstalling apps should remove the icons as these are part of the program being removed. try doing a reset and maybe it'll clear up?
cheers

Is there a way to disable "USB Mass Storage" warning?

I find this pretty annoying, everytime I i want to use my phone as mass storage device I have to jump through 3 screens. I want to skip all the warning and confirmation crap and just be able to select "mass storage device" from the 3 option menu when you first plug it in and be done with it.
On stock 1.5 you just had to tap the notification and voila.
In 2.1+ you have ot go to this special screen -.-
Yeah very anoying.
Until there is a fix im helping myself with an 'extended controls'-toggle widget
Single tap on your homescreen and you 're done
I have extended controls as well. I guess I'll have to live with it for now.

widgets disappearing

anyone having problems with their widgets completely disappearing? everytime i power off my phone and turn it on again pandora and tiny flashlight disappears from my screen. it also happens when i connect my phone to my comp as mass storage mode. this is very frustrating. in order for me to get it back i have to uninstall and reinstall the app. i cant just add the widget to the screen again because it is not listed when i do so.
If the app is stored on SD card that will happen. Check and move to phone:
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> <Problematic App / Widget> (And if available) -> Move to Phone

[Q] Shortcut/Widget to Unmount media

Is it possible to make one? Something you could tap and it unmounts the media you specify. Or would that mess with the system unmount?
tap your clock, this opens the notification area.
then tap the disconnect icon next to the listed attached device that you want to dismount. (you have 2 symbols there, one to browse the drive, one to disconnect it)
I don't know of any shortcut for this.

Settings icon deleted

I have accidentally deleted the settings icon on my screen (I swiped up too hard and fast and deleted it instead of opening it)
How can I navigate to settings without the icon?
How can I restore the icon?
I'm able to access the settings on my device but swiping down on the notification area and selecting the settings icon.
I didn't know it was possible to delete the icon from the app drawer...
Of course!!!!
D'oh!
Now that I have found settings again (thank you thank you) I'll go about recovering the icon to the "desktop"
Arrggh!
I can't restore the shortcut to the "desktop" and because it's still a new-to-me phone, I like to have it there.
It is in the list of widgets, but when I try and swipe it to the desktop nothing happens!
IMO the easiest way to recover lost or deleted Android app icons/widgets is
1. To touch and hold on an empty space on your Home screen. This method should cause a new menu to pop up with customizable options for your device.
2. Next, select Widgets and Apps to open a new menu.
3. Tap Apps. From here, you can choose the app icon that you previously deleted by mistake.
4. Hold the icon and drag it onto a space on your device. (You can rearrange it later.)
Your app should now be exactly where you want it to be, and it’ll be ready to use right away.
