Sprint variant - invalid sim - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

My phone tells me "invalid sim" when I insert any sim other than Sprint. I don't get an option to insert an unlock code. I feel this is all software related as multiple have reported the phone is the same hardware wise on every carrier.

What was the first sim you installed if I may ask?

AT&T

Apparently there is an unlock folder in the developer menu.

That's for the bootloader

When you put that AT&T sim it locked to AT&T

That's the best part, it's still locked to Sprint. Even with AT&T sim inserted first and completely reset to retry it. Still only accepts Sprint cards.

Was anyone able to figure out OP's question? I have the same problem too. I have a Sprint Galaxy S7 Edge and I'm trying to unlock it with a T-Mobile sim card, but I don't get the unlock code entry screen. I just get an invalid SIM card message. Where can I enter the unlock code? Thanks.

Hello, I am encountering the same issue. Please help? TIA

You either need to contact Sprint and have them send out a Profile Update to your phone to get it network unlocked or use a 3rd party service

Same problem here. Any solution? How to make my phone ask for an unlock code?

All, read this thread here. Looks like you can just call Sprint and get it handled or dish out some $$$, but I wouldn't recommend that.

Phone Not Allowed MM#6

Hi,
I recently unlocked a Vario III. It was successful in the sense I could insert a new SIM card without it barring me from starting the phone, I do end up getting an error when inserting the new SIM, "Phone Not Allowed MM#6". Does anyone know what that means? I inserted a T-Mobile SIM and while it doesn't give me the error, it doesn't connect to the T-Mobile network either.
I'm mostly curious to know if this is a defect in the phone, network, or the unlocking procedure.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Wow........digging in the graveyard.
Have you check with your carrier to make sure that the sim you are trying to use is enabled for the network and not locked . The sim unlocker, unlocks your phone to use any sim. It does not unlock a locked sim card.
Have you ran the sim unlocker?

I'm in Bolivia. I have a samsung galaxy s, I unlocked with SUperOneClick (for rooting) and sgs tool to unlock it. Then after using a local carrier for about two weeks my phone got the mm#6 error. I was looking for solutions, and then my brother realized that I have to register the phone with the line (IMEI with line). Here in Bolivia exists a law that block phones if they are not registered at someones name and Id. So with nothing to lose, I called assitance of the carrier and register the IMEI I found in the Android menu (About phone>status>IMEI) with the GSM chip/line I have. Wait for 20 minutes and voilá! phone got signal and it's working now. I hope still working from now and on. SO IF YOU HAVE THIS TROUBLE CALL YOUR CARRIER AND REGISTER YOUR PHONE'S IMEI WITH THE LINE YOU ARE USING, IT'S SIMPLE. YOU CAN TRY THAT BEFORE GETTING INTO SOFTWARE STUFF.
HOPE THIS HELP SOMEBODY.
GOOD LUCK!

Issues Unlocking Infuse

Just bought a used Infuse, already have it rooted and running Paranoid Android Jellybean, but I'm having trouble unlocking it. All of my other phones were unlocked automatically when I flashed a custom ROM, but this doesn't seem to be the case for the Infuse. The phone won't detect my T-Mobile SIM at all, even to say "Invalid SIM" etc. Now, I know one of the first suggestions will be "reflash" but at this point I've tried 2 custom ICS ROMs, unofficial CM9, Zeus, and have flashed PA 3 times, and none of them are detecting my SIM or prompting me for the unlock code, which I've already obtained. Is there any way to force the prompt for unlock code, or some other way to enter the code, some way to do it through Odin, or using the PC...just looking for any way I can get it unlocked.

That's news to me. I don't think I've ever flashed a ROM that automatically SIM unlocked the phone as well.
It seems very odd that it wouldn't prompt you for the unlock code as soon as you put a foreign SIM card in it. Have you tried an actual AT&T SIM card in it just to make sure that there's not a hardware issue with the SIM card reader? Also, it may be worth going all the way back to stock and seeing if it gives the prompt.

Like I said, I already have the unlock code. I just can't get the phone to prompt me for it. I read that thread, it's actually the one I used to obtain the code, and didn't see anything that helped with my particular dilemma.

I'm on the latest PA build and I was able to unlock just fine. Is it reading an AT&T sim card? First off make sure that the sim card you are using is actually activated. I just got a straight talk sim card that has not been activated and when put into my phone I was not prompted for the unlock code. I used my sister's T-Mobile sim card and it prompted for it. Make sure you swap them while the phone is powered off as well.

Unless you bought Straight Talk's T-Mobile BYOP SIM card, you wouldn't be prompted for an unlock code. Straight Talk's AT&T based SIM cards will work right off the bat, with an AT&T branded phone. When I used the hex editor method to find my unlock code, I used an old T-Mo SIM card that hadn't been active for well over a year, and I was prompted for the code as soon as I booted the phone up.

It is an at&t compatible sim card, so maybe that is why it didn't prompt, I just thought it was because it wasn't activated.

Still baffled on this, if anyone knows how to force the unlock request screen, or some other way to unlock the phone, I would be very appreciative. Will donate for proper answer.

Go to a T-Mobile store and pick up a prepaid SIM with 10 miniutes of air time. Power down your phone, and insert the SIM card. Power back on your phone, and you should be prompted for an unlock code. Your phone will be permenantly unlocked after entering the code and pressing enter.

Thanks but as I've said I've already tried the standard method.
It seems most likely that its a hardware issue; the phone isn't even reading AT&T Sims, so it might be a lost cause at this point.

No SIM card error, help

Woke up the other day and my AT&T s6 randomly got this issue. I am using my cricket sim card on this smg900a. Tried another cricket sim and it also did not work. It is not my sim either as im currently using it on another phone. Also does not appear to be a hardware issue as it detects when i insert or remove the sim. Just says No SIM, Emergency calls only. Please help anybody.
Perhaps some faulty SIM cards? Try one from another operator. Also AT&T phones usely works only with AT&T SIM cards if I'm correct.

Cricket is an at&t sub carrier. All at&t phones work on cricket actually, ive been using at&t phones on their service for quite a while now.
Try to contact the carrier and see what they suggest.

Well all they tried was put in a new sim card which did not work.. said it was the phone. But i believe it might be software related.

I can see several more people have same issue, including myself, but I tampered service mode and EFS folder, so I guess there could be a problem.
Unfortunately dont have original EFS folder backup, or warranty, as I am not the first owner of the phone.

invalid card

can some one please help me....i purchased an unlocked former sprint lg g flex 2 from ebay to use with my gsm sim card.
I have used the phone for 10 days without any problem but from nowwhere today it just showed invalid card.
when i reinsert the sim,it detects the sim for about 10 min and then brings a pop up on the screen saying "the phone ll reboot until you insert a valid sim card"then it reboots and stays on invalid sim.
Tried a different sim it also works for roughly 5 min and then does the same thing.
I have tried hard reset, factory reset, rebooting it and everything that i found on google but nothing works, still stack on "INVALID CARD"
Any help please i ll appreciate!

Best thing to do is return it. Never buy a sprint device for use on GSM carriers. Only buy a sprint device if you intend on using it on Sprint.

No clue. Getting it to work can be difficult or could be easy. But it's just not a reliable device to use on GSM carriers.
Did you make sure network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE?
If so your best bet is to check out this thread not sure if it still applies https://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/sprint-g-flex-2ls996-gsm-domestic-t3122813

Just unrooting wouldn't solve the issue. The device was most likely rooted with changes to make it work with a gsm carrier. That phone in its stock state won't work on any other carrier at all besides sprint.

You should be able to since it's updating. But updating will actually make it to where you won't ever be able to use it.
You have more of a chance getting it working with a GSM carrier while rooted than not.
The issue your facing is not a problem, it's supposed to say that when inserting a non Sprint sim in the sprint device.
Remember that model has to be tampered with to make it work on a GSM carrier. It's not supposed to work on a non sprint carrier without things being changed.

Broken Antenna
I've had my LG G Flex 2 for a little over a year and this happened to me.
SOLUTION: The antenna is most likely broken and needs to be replaced. The lady at sprint said it is common with this phone so I'll try to figure out how to do that.
