Who uses always on - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Display?

I did for the first day. Since it does not show email notifications, I installed light manager (set different colors for notification led) turned aod off.

My S7 will use this "Feature" when my S7 will arrive tomorrow.
But i hope they will update the AO for Gmail and WhatsApp Support.

so, what does the always on show ?? is there still the notification light ??
have not read tfm yet, sorry. lol

I think as of today it only displays notifications for Samsung apps. Other apps like WhatsApp etc. are not supported (yet?).
Yes, there is a notification LED integrated.

What are the chances of a LED notification?

It looks like the touch surface at the bottom of the device has slight translucent look about it. Might it serve as a notification LED as well?
I think the chances are good. I noticed that as well.
Also, in the video over on android central of the g4 rom running on the nexus, he mentions led notifications built into the rom. I'm not sure if he mean built into the hacked rom or the standard rom.
Hopefully there is

Problem is that development will now have to corporate that in to the roms
I can confirm that there is LED notification located just to the left of the ambient light sensor. There is also a Notification flash setting under the display settings. Flash LED light notifications optinos include: Missed call, SMS/MMS, Email, Voicemail, Reminders, and Alarms. Of course it is also used as a charging notification.

There are multiple color options. I do not know which colors are for what but I do know that emails are green.
Great now I have to decide... HD7, or myTouch 4g?
I'm kinda scared to shift to a new OS, just because it is so new that I have no idea if it will adjust well with how I use a device, however... if I get the 4g it will take forever for official updates to come to the device...
So hard... I guess I will have to try both devices at the T-Mobile store.

Definitively android. wp7 will be a flop.
I too can confirm. youtube wirefly's channel. they got a unboxing AND a small review. (the review has the notification light blinking)
Can anyone who has actually used the phone confirm that there's an LED for notifications and that it's functional? Thanks.

Are you all talking about the notification light at the top that turns on as orange for charging and blinks green for emails? If not I have no idea where this is located :/

[Q] Settings for Notification LED?

This is my first motorola phone in a longg time, so apologies if this is some well known thing.
Is there a way to change the settings for the LED?
I like that FB is blue and my texts are Green, but then my emails seem to also be Green... Would rather Gmail be red or something.
Thanks!

Where are the controls to turn on these light notifications (for received text, for example)? I didn't know the default settings used the notification light at all. If I had, I might not have gone looking for an app
To answer your question, there is an app called 'Light Flow' that allows you to customize the notification LED for different events. You can change things like colors and flashing speed for different app notifications (text, gmail, calendar notification, missed calls, low battery, etc) and also add other apps so that their notifications can trigger the LED.
There is a 'Lite' version of the app that is fully functional so you can try it out. I just started using it but I really like it so far.
No idea, mine were on by default haha.
But thanks! I'll go check out the app.
I don't think there is a way to control the LED without a 3rd party app.

Lightflow is awesome!
I now have my led turn orange when charging and green when charged! How did Moto forget something so basic?
Hi:
Thanks to Vector for pointing out Light Flow. Between the mysterious, single, unread text message imported from my old phone and all of the emails sent out by groupon et all in the middle of the night, the green light was flashing all night.Thankfully, Light Flow has a sleep mode that turns the light off at night.
I was ready to return the phone as it was keeping me up. Really appreciated!
Tom

LED notifications

Anybody tried LightFlow or any other apps to control the notification LED?

They work if that's what you're asking. Light Flow and Light Manager are the two I tested. Definitely prefer LF of the two.
Light manager seems to work for sms but not email. Always on also does not show email notifications. Arg!

LightFlow is not working for me. Did you enable the LED in the display settings and did you enable or disable the workaround for Samsung?
I have been emailing the dev for light manager. in order to get it to work, you need to turn on the 5.1 workaround in the apps settings and you have to let it wake the screen for notifications. then the led colors work correctly. one thing that does break is you can not longer expand the gmail notifications in the notification pull down shade. he said he doesn't have an S7 yet to test on but is getting one.
LED Blinker Work correctly
I didn't install light manager yet. I'm just using signal for SMS and changing color of LED in its settings. inbox is blue and I guess missed calls would be the same blue default. Works for now. Also charging is red by default and green I think when charged...
LED Blinker Work
my g930f led notification does not work properly. i have no white its kinda pink ish and yellow is a orange with green??? does anyone else have this problem? i have tested it with Light Flow, Light Manager, Blinker and Led Tester
i had nothing like this with my s5

Yes LED Blinker works. I have tested under S7. And many customers told me, too.
Just enable workaround 5.1.1 in app settings (its needed for Android 6, too sadly).

Same here. (With Light Manager) So it seems to be a hardware/model related issue.

Needed screen on for me too (for Gmail at least, some apps worked okay - Handcent/Whatsapp). Which I didn't really want to use but it's better than nothing at this stage.
Ah, sorry, it's Light Manager I used - I was trying a few and got confused!
Ok then what now? Do we return it to samsung and ask for a good one or just live with it??

LED Blinker works, but has the same problem that all of the other LED notification programs have....The Gmail notification icon in the status bar will not auto clear after reading email. It must be cleared manually. Light Manager does the same thing, and according to the developer, it is an issue with Android 6.0

you have to disable the light/led in all apps you use, gmail doesnt have such option, use google inbox instead.

Thanks, but I use Google Apps, with multiple email accounts, so Google Inbox really doesn't work well for my use.

Heads up (Banner) notification in B360

Hello guys,
I flashed successfully from B131 to B360.
All works fine as soon.
All notifications arrive immediately but not all were shown in banner mode (heads up) although I chose it in notification settings.
For example AquaMail is only show as banner if I choose in AquaMail settings high priority notificationas.
Tapatalk or other apps are only as icons in statusbar. Whatsapp or sms are shown as Banner.
I'm very confused. In emui 4.1 all notifications are heads up.
Is this a bug
Thx for helping
I am having the same issue with EMUI 5 with Android 7. Searches on google and xda don't give many answers. Have you tried exempting all apps from battery optimization yet? That's the only other answer I've found so far, but some claim it still doesn't work.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/notifications-t3454081
The more I learn about this phone, the more I realize that EMUI simply gets in the way of how Android is supposed to operate. Banner and LED notifications are either overridden or ignored by EMUI for third party apps. The only way around it is to use apps that have built in notification settings that can override EMUI.
For example, I use Textra as my primary messaging app and its banner and LED notifications only work when I select those options within the app. EMUI doesn't seem to recognize those functions for Textra and a bunch of other apps as well.
That would explain why I only see notifications for default apps.. will see with the settings in the other apps..

And this applies to the LED notification as well. I turned on the phone screen yesterday to find 3 different apps had notifications in the status bar, but the LED never flashed to tell me they were there.
Hii @PuffDaddy_d
Yes I have the same issue
And the only thing works is the sound notification
But then missing the LED one
LED manager will take over and control the LED notification - just a shame you can't turn off the battery charging LED.

Yes, that app works very well, but it is a huge battery drain for me. It wasn't worth keeping installed.

Notification popup with preview on AOD.?

Hi all I've just made the switch again from iOS to Android last Android being a note 3.
Really loving the s8+ such a nice device. One thing I do miss from iOS is whenever I get any notification the screen turns on with the notification and a small preview.
At the minute I keep missing emails as all I get is a icon with no preview on the always on display.
Is there anyway of having all notifications popup and either turn the screen on with the notification (Samsung bubble popup) or have a preview on the AOD
Thanks

Yes there is.... Just turn off AOD and install for free from playstore "glimpse notification".It just do exactly what you want. I had it on s7 edge, Note 7 and now on S8+ and is working perfectly with more less battery consumption from AOD. You will not see any deference in you battery consumptiont. Just activate it, give him all permissions deactivate app notification (you only need notification from all other apps) and from settings choose as white list which apps you want to turn screen on (to show notifications) and click to led notification light to work together, run the test and you are done.
It's working perfect and all the times
Thanks I'll check it out
Just having a play with this and it works well. I do like the always on display though. Will this work with that still enabled?
Thanks

I think that yes it must work...just try it out, but maybe with this 2 activated you will notice deference in battery consumption
