My last Samsung phone was S2, since than i have used several Sony's and LG's and i have used to brilliant default keyboards with long press symbols and i cant believed it when i sol default keyboard on Best phone S7 - no option for this, no customization's, nothing.......
So i install Swift keyboard i am disappointed
Otherwise S7 is brilliant phone (might be to hot after LG G4?)
What do you mean? Like symbols in the top right corner of each key?

Samsung Keyboard uses SwiftKey prediction anyway.
Samsung keyboard is actually my favorite. It's the only one I can find that doesn't do key pop-ups (Very distracting for me), shows a number row above letters, and has long press for symbols. Every other keyboard is missing one of those 3 features for me.

I have a Galaxy Note 3 right now (Waiting for S7 pre-order). Samsung keyboard was stock. The long press for symbols works by default. Symbols show as a smaller font above each of the normal keys. The number row at the top doesn't have any symbols. Didn't have to change any settings for that behavior.
I used the Wanam xposed module which has an option to add symbols on my Tab S2 and S5
Im using stock keyboard and i do not have the long press for symbols either, nothing in settings to enable it either.
I think only the US versions have the long press symbols.
I also use the sammy keyboard with note 3 and it has the long press option. It's a great keyboard, IMO. Hopefully they haven't changed it.

swift key suchs it dont support japanese/chinese, and samsung do
I have symbols option under keyboard layout settings.
If you want 'long-press-symbols' to show on the samsung keyboard, go to keyboard settings -> customization -> keyboard layout -> turn on alternative characters
You'll get the 'long-press-symbols' by doing this

When I used the landscape keyboard to send an SMS message from my Skyrocket, the default layout of the message composition screen has the "attach" button above the "send" button, meaning I can't directly click send. I either have to go "back" to dispose the keyboard to reveal the "send" button, or carefully scroll the narrow view-port above the keyboard to reveal it.
When I used SwiftKey, I believe it had a button on the keyboard that managed to send the message. But I'm trying to use either stock or the ICS port keyboard since SwiftKey's space-bar was too narrow for my fat thumbs.
Is anyone else plagued by this? Any clever solutions?

OP: if in landscape mode, after you type your message, hit the BACK soft button.... that will hide keyboard and show the attach option abovd the send option
I will agree that's annoying as hell. Never noticed it bc I don't type in landscape. Thank god I don't.
In landscape hit done and it will send if i remember right
Where is "Done"?

When I used Swype, it had a "Done" button I believe. But I couldn't handle Swype's narrow spacebar. Why doesn't the stock Android 2.3.5 keyboard have a "Done" button, or the back-ported ICS keyboard (shown above)?
This is so frustrating! Seems like just generally poor designing by samsung. The SGS1 didnt have this issue and a part of me wants to pull the API of the messaging off of my Captivate on to my skyrocket. Does anyone know if this is possible
I am new to this device and am having some issues
I loaded some apps on it and now I am unable to get the key board up. The hand writing works and the hand writing recognition to text work but I can't seem to find the keyboard.
I wish there was a place to go to get a full tutorial on how to use the device as well.
any help would be appreciated.
If you are using the default keyboard, then in the script mode, you should see an icon that looks like a keyboard on the left side of the space bar. Tap it and you should be switched to the keyboard screen. If you long press it then you will see 3 icons pop up one for voice one for toggling between keyboard and script and the last one for settings.

There's also a user manual on the Samsung Site here...

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature (JB 4.1.1 UK on GT-N8000) but when I attach the hardware keyboard (the white one, original Samsung accesory) and try to write, pressing Enter on a keyboard makes the software keyboard popup. Ihave to press the "Back" button to hide it and then on the next enter pops up again. The same goes for the arrow keys, pressing them pops up the software keyboard.
Maybe a firmware does not count with the hardware keyboard attached...
All this happens when writing to a forums or sending emails through a web, not when writing in office etc...
Has anyone of you the same experience?

No check for a hardware keyboard just a voice input or keyboard (Samsung keyboard) nothing more for harware things...
But it seems it's a feature, clicking to a form on the web makes the keyboard to popup...writing in office has no popups...

Good idea, but then you have to switch between them if you attach/detach HW kbd...why there's no popup when writing in office, this should go with the FW developing....maybe someone's forgot something...maybe will be fixed in the next FW update...maybe I'l live with it...anyway null kbd is a good idea, thanks, never thought someting like that may exist

Unfortunately, a lot of silly things like this are often overlooked by the software developers and a workaround is usually created like in your example. At least there is a fix until/if ever they do eventually get it resolved.
I am so happy about this. Samsung was breaking my balls with this. Finally....

The menu button is objectively... wrong!
The first relates to Samsung's decision to include the Menu button -- an element Google removed from the platform at the start of the 4.0 era. The old-style Menu button was eliminated for a specific reason: On button-free devices, a special onscreen icon signals the presence of functions related to the OS or to specific applications -- functions like accessing advanced settings in Gmail, requesting a desktop version of a website in Chrome, or viewing your list of installed apps in the Play Store. In Samsung's setup, there's nothing to let you know when those options are available unless you think to tap the Menu button at the right time.

Not too bothered about the menu button, although obviously best Samsung move with the design of android. Would have rather they had changed the physical home button to a capacitive one. Although I dont see them changing that one anytime soon, because if they do that they might as well use on screen buttons, which would mean a slight decrease in screen size and perhaps the loss of their identity (as it would resemble a nexus/other brand phone).
I like the menu/back and the physical home button is one of the reasons i like them
each to there own and all that crap.
After my beloved HTC Incredible S, I vowed never to get another HTC as they had removed the menu button, leaving just 2 buttons.
First the incredibly useful search button gets removed off Android, now this.
If I wanted pretty much no buttons I'd go for an iPhone. But I don't - I want easy control over my phone and not having to rely on the touchscreen for every single command! :crying:
Yea, there's nothing wrong with that button. I like it!
Hardware menu button is logical and very intuitive. Instead of search and explore sometimes awkward interface, i can press menu button and get menu. Also, not every app looks good with always visible menu button. I'm using 3rd party dialer where only dial keyboard and call log/contacts are visible. Where to put menu button? Make whole bar just for this button? It's lame! And there are many other apps where on-screen menu button will look like 5th leg for dog.
I like present Samsung button layout and would like to have it in the future phones.
they should 100 % keep menu button its just nice having physical button will really miss it
they should keep the physical button i have no problem with it
I love the menu button!
My old HTC One S had a recent apps button instead of menu. All EVERY custom ROM ever did was remap it to menu! What I hope sammy does is ditch the physical home button and go metal!!
Actual buttons setup is very good (only difference from nexus is menu button instead of multitasking button). But multitasking is already accessible through home button (like in ios) and menu button is smart (don't have to search for the 3 dots). Removing it is a bad move, samsung would ditch one of its best intuition.

Menu button is definitely needed especially on big screens because on screen menu button is at the top! I hope it stays on the future galaxy phones.

Actually physical home button is one of my favourite features on Samsung phones. It just makes it so easy to wake up the phone (yes - i'm left handed, so power button on the right side is not very comfortable for me!), but also to answer a call. Especially when using gloves and/or S View pouch that i have.
I will be ditching Samsung next year when I am due for upgrade. They should ditch their crapwiz as well.

First of all...f*ck you Samsung!
There, I got it out of my system now..
I knew android had this button since always and I always used it since my first smartphone, the Galaxy S I9000.
I find the fact that they'll change it a horrible idea!
I hope the S5, Note 4 etc will keep the current design...
Even if they don't though, you can remap any key if you've rooted your phone and I'll make it again an options menu even if the icon shows otherwise.

Google forced the menu button to be inside apps so having a hardware menu button is redundant. I prefer the button too, blame Google... No more menu button, no external sdcard support for Nexus...

Hi everyone! It's good to be back. I just switched from an iPhone 6 to a Galaxy S6 (G920F) few days ago but I am not new with rooting and other things in android. I just have some questions and I need help.
1. How can I make the stock samsung keyboard to always show uppercase keys (like the one in the iPhone). I do not like using 3rd party keyboards. I want the stock samsung* keyboard to NOT display lowercase keys. I WANT IT TO PERMANENTLY DISPLAY UPPERCASE KEYS.
2. How can I remove the number row on the top of the stock samsung keyboard? Like the one in the S3 that does not have a number row at the top. I prefer not having the number row.
Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

You mean every time keyboard pops up, u want it to display only upper case? I don't think there's a stock solution for that. U can press the arrow twice and it'll stay in upper case, but not every time it pops up.
Try Google Keyboard. I think you'll like it.
Not the pop-up. The keys itself that the keyboard displays. Like an iPhone keyboard that is not changing into lowercase keys even you are typing lowercase keys. Pressing shift key or not, the keys aren't changing to lowercase when using iPhone. It's what i want to happen because the keyboard displaying lowercase keys kinda annoy me.
