Helo, I have a rooted Z3 running stock 5.1.1 .264 firmware (locked BL)
I want to set custom CPU setting for some apps (just to get a bit more battery life and a bit less heating ).
I used Faux123KE app on my old Xperia Z (with unlocked BL and a custom kernel, Perapp control really gave me better battery life on that phone) to do it but it seems it just doenst work on the Z3. I also tried Per-app Modes app and Kernel Tasker app, and it also didn't work. Then I played with Tasker and Kernel Audiutor but still without any results.
So, is there any way to ger per-app control working? I don't think that the stock kernel is the main reason why it doenst work hence I can change its governor and freq setting without any problems in Faux123KE app (set on boot is also wokring)
Any advice?:fingers-crossed:

guys...my phone sometimes freezes on the lockscreen....and I have to pull out the battery...the problem is that this happens with all roms, sense or not based....
what's going on?!
You may get more help if you provide a little more info, ie:
-Are you using a specific 3rd party launcher with roms?
-Are you using a custom kernel, and if so what are your settings?
-Have you tried running in safe mode to rule out 3rd party apps?
-Did this problem begin after anything in particular you can think of?
-etc....
Maybe too low CPU values?
Undervolt can cause this as well.
It happened to me while using APEX on ARHD.
But indeed more info is needed.
this started a week ago...with miui official/faux kernel and now with aokp b38/tamcore kernel....I know tamcore kernel is undervolted, and don't know nothing about faux's one...
I use nova launcher, setcpu is set at 384/1188 and I have a profile screen-off at 192/432...
uh, forgot, I use SIO scheduler...I set it with no frills and uninstalled it after, to have just one cpu control app (setcpu)...
this morning my alarm didn't ring! then I had to pull out the battery because it was freezed...luckily I woke up by myself this morning XD
I recommend to use a higher off-screen value (384 MHz) as a first try. See how it reacts and also use an app to check the current voltage (like system tuner / st pro).
If this does not helps then start isolating apps.
I have NOOP sched and 384-432 Off-screen and had no issues far, but I remember that with 192 Mhz a while ago the screen did not wake up a few times (on ARHD 6.3.x).
I updated to b39, nothing now....if it freezes i'll try setting a higher minfreq...
thank you all! thx+1
Hello everyone.
I have rooted my tab 2 (model: P5110 running official android 4.1.2)
I recently installed the setCPU and tried to create some profiles
for example: working in 1008 mhz in performance mode while charging
However, after I screen off, it would be powered off automatically and I have to long press the power button to power on again.:crying:
I guess that it is not about the profile I set but the setCPU crashed in Tab2.
Is there any method to solve the problem or cannot not use the setCPU?
Thanks a lot !
I am guessing you are using stock kernel as well?
You will need to install a custom kernel that will allow you to overclock to use SetCPU.
With stock kernel, you don't have an option of changing CPU clock speed. I don't know if that is why you are having problems.
Yes, I am using the stock kernel.
I am not going to overclock my tab2 to 1.2Ghz or even higher
but I just want to increase the minimum clock speed since tab 2 is very lag.
For example running at full speed while you are charging the tab
install android tweaker from play store for better perfomance
It's known problem. I called it, sleep too deep. Do not play around with the CPU governor if you are using stock kernel.
Yes, you will need a custom kernel before you can mess around with CPU settings.
Hey,
I know what's the difference between cafs and aosp kernels, but my question is about the difference between both Cyanogenmod-Roms...
I am using the aosp Rom, what reasons are there to switch to cafs?
Difference in Android/CM-Features?
Noticeable performance boost?
Can I just flash it over aosp-version like flashing the nightlies?
These are options within settings or easily seen differences I noticed and not how one feels vs the other.
You'll have to test that for yourself.
CAF: Ambient Display(Fully functional exactly as it works on the Nexus 6). Turning this on though breaks volume skipping tracks on 12.1. Works fine on 12.0
Color Options(Vivid, Standard, Custom)
In Performance Settings there is an option to automatically change the CPU clock speeds per app(not user definable).
No changeable settings in Performance Settings to the cpu speeds and governor.
Requires CAF TWRP.
AOSP: Downgrades the radio back to 5.0.2
Downgrades the bootloader back to 5.0.2
Low system UI sounds.
No Ambient Display
No Color Options(Vivid, Standard, Custom)
No per app option in Performance Settings.
Has changeable settings in Performance Settings for cpu speeds and governor.
Requires AOSP TWRP.
I've been flashing back and forth between them for days with no issues. If you do flash one over the other just don't post issues in the main thread until you've tried fixing them with a clean flash.

Thank you, I think I'll try caf...
Ambient display is reason enough to switch ?active display does not always work as expected...
This is the complete guide for the maximum battery even with power usages.
First of all i am really sorry for my bad English
ROM
Dr. Ketan ROM l21 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519897
Applications
TW Launcher frozen with titanium backup both TW Home and TW easy mode.
Using Nova Laucher as my primary laucher.''
Usning SnapLock instead of Built in Lockscreen. (set Built in Locksreen to none from the setting).
Uninstall the useless or bloatware apps like group play, google now, g+ samsung store etc.
Greenify
Added all apps to greenify except WhatsApp, viber and Sayhi.
Setting
All air and motion functions are off.
Power saving mode on for 24 hr.
Brightness auto -5
Kernel
This is the important and main part to save more battery recently i found Pekaka kernel for my Note III. Their are many comments about drain and getting device too HOT.
So i decided to play with kernel setting. And install setcpu setting thats work for me like a charms.
So after flashing the kernel do worry about getting device too HOT even with Playing Heavy Games also i have attached the setting for the SetCpu... Match your setting below and let me know if this setting also work for you.
The first three setting are to cool down the device if the device gets to hot, it will automatically scale the processor down to allow it to cool.
The other four are to save battery while the screen is off. This will lock the CPU between these lower frequencies when the screen is off, using less mv, resulting in less battery usage.
Thanks to Dr.Ketan for such a wonderful ROM
Thanks to Pekaka for the Great Kernel for Lollipop
Thabks to the developer of SetCPU app.
Give it try and let me know by your comments if this setting work with you or not.

I can see it now. According to ur ss, usage all over wifi or 3G?
@satslu Usage over WiFi.
WiFi remain always ON in my device I'm mostly indoor user so never OFF the WiFi even not in Use.
Here. Is New Results according to which you can use Almost 8hours with screen On.
Because this result are estimated from 92% battery not from 100%.
Your screen on time is quite impressive. I was on L21 up until the last few weeks. It was much better than stock TW, but still not what I wanted. I was thinking about switching kernels, but ended up on cm12.1 and couldn't be happier. djmax81 is finishing up a kernel for it that should improve battery, and it is incredibly smooth, even compared to Dr. Ketan's rom.
@mwbuss8 can you post the screens with djmax8 kernel ?"

I don't have his new one. he said it should be done pretty soon
I have a Lenovo P2. My carrier has not provided any OTA updates since an old Android 6 version, before the Spectre/Meltdown issues, so once the warranty expired I installed Lineage OS, now 15.1.
Only problem is that the battery life is significantly reduced. This is while using the second-slowest setting before battery saving mode in Lineage.
I want to try to change the kernel governor settings to see if I can improve this. I think I need root access to do so and tried installing Magisk as it seemed the most user friendly. When trying to flash the 16.0 and 17.0 zips in TWRP (newest) for the P2 kuntao, it fails as it cannot mount the /vendor partition. Posts suggests this problem has come and gone before, and that basically Lineage 15.1 doesn't try to cater for Magisk, rather the philosophy is that root/SU access is either there or not, no trying to circumvent SafetyNet checks etc.
Does anybody know a solution to (in order of priority):
1) Improve the battery life issue.
2) Change the governor settings without root (defaults settings in Lineage OS appear to not be well suited for Lenovo P2).
3) Install Magisk.
4) Recommend a good alternative Android ROM or perhaps just a kernel, which I can adjust power settings for, but still allows security-sensitive programs such as banking apps etc.
Thank you!
More details: Various battery analyser programs including Better Battery Stats don't seem to uncover any programs (and I have no social media apps). I sync manually and generally have WiFi turned off (no secret scanning) and also the screen turned off (no double tapping to unlock). The culprit appears to be system standby (not radio, its usage is reassuringly low). Reading posts suggests that the CPUs are governed too high when in standby and that the best thing to try at this point is to adjust the kernel governor settings. I don't particularly want to root (I develop software, but don't know much about linux), however it seems it is necessary to do so.
