Pocket factory reset - SM-G925V, Android 5.1.1 - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Folks,
So yesterday my Samsung s6 Edge did a factory reset in my pocket...At first it was just an annoyance to set it back up, then I realized my images and videos did not restore...Apparently I did not have them backed up anywhere. So, I googled and found tons of stuff related to retrieving images, and the like...but most things come back to needing Mass Storage capability and rooting the phone...Would prefer not to do that, but it looks like I could not, even if I wanted too, since I have Android 5.1.1.
Is there a way to downgrade/root the OS, turn on mass storage, then run recuva (or whatever) to attempt a restore....then flash back the factory OS?
From what I have been able to piece together, the locked bootloader is a problem. I have tried different things like droid samba to have my phone appear as a drive, but to no avail.
So, is there anything I can do to get the lost images, or am I out of luck?
TIA...Mike

Mike,
Did you ever find an answer to your problem? I was shocked when I read what happened as I thought it was isolated to just myself. I had been using my G925V and when I pulled it out of my pocket it was in the middle of a factory reset. Since then I've tried recovery tools but they all require root to perform a deep scan. I happen to be on 5.1.1 and have not had any success. I've been unable to use my phone for 6 months because I cannot replace these pictures.

Mount the phone to any computer, see if the phone will mount in recovery mode, run recuva on the device?

Need help backing up NS with broken screen, maybe relocking

The Short Version: Screen's trashed, bootloader is unlocked, can I install Clockwork Recovery without losing the data on the phone right now? And can someone at least step me through the Clockwork Recovery menu, as my SAMOLED display is actually damaged (I've done the software hacking before)? If I can't do the CWR thing, can I at least force the phone into USB boot mode so I can pull the backups I do have in USB Storage before Samsung nukes the phone?
The Long Version:
Title says it all. I know there are other "help me back up my phone with a busted screen" threads, but the ones I've seen so far all reference camera buttons and such. There's some data on the "local" storage I'd like to try and recover, if at all possible, specifically data in a time clock app, a car maintenance log app, and save games would be a nice little bonus. The apps have native back-up features, but they aren't automatic, and I can't trigger them with the broken screen.
Here's the kicker: I rooted once and installed CM7, CWR, and the rest of the usual toys, right before ICS came out. Then once ICS came out, I ran into all sorts of trouble with the manual upgrade, and basically undid everything... almost. I know the bootloader is still unlocked, and I'm pretty sure I removed Clockwork Recovery (like a damn fool). Is it possible to reinstall CWR without nuking the main storage? And, of course, since my screen is totally trashed, is it possible for someone to help me navigate the menus?
I'm pretty confident in actually installing CWR and removing it and relocking the bootloader. Tons of guides out there, and I've done it once before, I just need to know if I can do this without losing my data. If I can't, is there some way to force the phone into USB Storage Mode so I can at least recover the data on the phone that is auto-backed-up (or backed up previously)?
Thank you for anything you can do to help me out here!

[Q] Used wrong Lock-Pattern, now phone is locked. No method tried works for unlocking

Hey guys how's it going?
Story:
My little cousin borrowed her old HTC Desire S to a friend.
This said friend, might have changed the Google Account and activated a Lock screen-Pattern, although she claims "I didn't change anything".
She claims, her sister tried to access the Phone while she was in school but couldn't, because of the Pattern Lock, so it locked up.
My little Cousin had a similar problem before (she knew her pattern but somehow it didn't recognize it and locked it. I unlocked it with the Android Device manager, since it didn't work with her Google Account).
She hasn't put a new Lock screen-Security Pattern/PIN/Password since then.
What I did so far:
tried putting in the Google Account Information of my Cousin
tried it with the Android Device Manager, but it couldn't even find the phone
tried entering the Recovery to perform a factory reset, but it just boots up normally
tried gaining information on How-to re-flash stock firmware but all I've found, required you to get into "HBoot" for relevant Information (which I can't access somehow)
So, is there anything I can try to regain access to the Phone, I don't already have?
It would most likely be a back-up phone, so, if it's lost, it's nothing too bad but, I mean, it cost quite some back in the day...So yeah, would be cool if you guys have a solution!
Thank you in advance for reading this post and thinking about/providing a solution!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, that my PC doesn't even recognise the Phone properly. It finds a removable Drive but it says "Put in a storage Device in the removable drive(H)" and if I want to save disconnect the device, there is only ". . ." listed and it doesn't do anything. I assume it is in "Charge-Only mode" or something.
Oh and it's connected to my Wi-Fi but it wont install apps (through Play Store in my PC Browser), since I tried one of those "remove Lock-screen" apps.
Pull the battery out for 15 seconds then put back in then press and hold volume down + power button. That should get u into bootloader and there u can try factory reset or if all fails try a ruu.

Regain access to old data of mine

Hey Guys
Im in a bit of a situation here
It sounds a bit odd, but when making up my electronic stuff, i dug out my old Galaxy S7 and several other phones and i got a bit nostalgic about those times and what i did back then.
So i started charging them up and scrolling to the photos and messages of that time. (im not the type of guy who has everything synced, i mostly start from scratch on a new phone).
However on this device, i was not able to figure out the PIN Code nor the Google Account i was using back then.
So i am now trying to get access to this data by working around the pin code or something like that.
I thought that with the ADB shell i could do this and i found some hints on google about it. However as it looks, you need to have USB debugging enabled to get the shell access. Which of course i haven't and i cannot set as i am not able to get into the system the usual way.
There is no custom recovery or similar flashed on the device. Stock. I might even have wiped it back then but just curious And searching solutions for problems like that is in my nature.
So does anyone know a way how to get there?
I am not interested about the os or something, just my old personal data.
Is unlocking through odin still a thing? and can i get a custom recovery on the device that way WITHOUT loosing the data on the phone? so through that recovery i cloud get a shell to bypass the lockscreen?
Or is there just no solution to that?
I found that there is some SD Card installable flashes to bypass the lockscreen, but here i would first have to buy an SD Card. Since this is just a project i dont want to waste money. Do you guys know if this works for sure? I mean, can i even install this tool without a custom recovery? I have the menu option to apply updates from sd card in the standard recovery, just not sure if this does the trick.
Any other approach?
And yeah, i would probably find it out one day by just trying the codes, but it locks you for 60 minutes after every try now, so this would take ages ^^

Question OnePlus OTA update softbrick

Hi,
Posting this as I cant find anything online and not sure if anyone else has experienced this. The newest update (seemed like a minor one) has made my phone unusable after the restart.
It boots into OS same as always but displays blank screen after boot (can't tell if it's on cos oled). I know it's in OS because holding power button brings up the native android power menu. It as keeps constantly micro vibrating. Like when you're typing really fast or something. Not sure what the issue is, and haven't yet tried resetting to factory, but fixing isn't gonna be fun since OEM unlocking is disabled.
I'm trying to get some files off it somehow before I try anything else but can't seem to find a way in.
The ver. According to the power menu is: RKQ1.211119.001
You need to have OEM unlocking enabled in dev options for that tho don't you?
I turned it off a week or 2 ago as I thought I probably won't be unlocking the phone anytime soon, if at all.
Option only seems to be msmtool.
Have you tried going into recovery (I assume you are on stock recovery) and reset system settings? I believe this does a factory reset without wiping data. You might want to fact check that as I have seen the option but never used it, there is another option in there called erase everything which I would assume is a complete factory restore (as in new out of the box).
Yeah checked there, theres only one option unfortunately, seen vids where they have multiple but their ver is 2.0 whereas mine says 1.2. I intend to try that first but wanted to see if there was a way around incase that was a full reset + wipe internal storage. Tbf now that mention it, it's still possible internal storage is unaffected, which is what I want.

Click to collapse
let us know how you go.
So, issue fixed with factory reset thru stock recovery (Wipe Data -> Wipe User Data), however has come with the downside of all data including internal storage being wiped. Everything seems to be working tho, and works after restart.
Well, that sucks. Hope you didn't lose anything you couldn't get back.

Android data recovery without root

Hi guys,
I am looking for some time now into the possibility to recover data from a data wiped phone. The phone is not rooted and basically stock with MIUI installed (Xiaomi 10T Pro).
First, I tried “normal” windows data recovery programs but with these I am not able to select the internal drive of the phone when connected to the PC just the hard drive of the PC. Then I read this could be when the device is not in MTP mode but after enabling it I still couldn’t select the device. I tried different programs also some mentioned here on XDA like DiskDigger, TestDisk, GT Recovery, Restoration and so on.
Then I tried it on the phone itself with the DiskDigger App, GT Recovery, File Recovery, Photo Recovery and so on. I got the feeling that all these apps don’t really look for data or do a deep search. The progress stops usually after a second with no results at all. Access to the storage was given.
Then I tried different recovery programs for Android I found on google like EaseUS, Android Data Recovery and so on. At least a dozen of those programs. Some of them unfortunately weren’t able to recognize the phone. And honestly, most of the programs look quite the same, have similar stile websites and installers and all claim to be number 1 in restoring. I also read that they scam people but I can’t really tell because they usually want you to pay for a result. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem in paying a price to recover some pictures but I have to pay before I even get a result if some data can be recovered. If I would get at least a preview that something was found and can be recovered I would give it a shot.
Is it really so hard to find a decent software or app that can help me with trying to recover some pictures?
If anybody can lead me in a good direction, I would really appreciate that.
Thank you!
As anyone EVER recovered data after a Factory reset?
As anyone EVER recovered data after a Factory reset? There are so many people who just give blind advice to use android recovery software which actually doesn't work. I have contacted all data recovery they claim it's not possible after Android...
