[Q] FlashFire and update ROM - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
My S6 (SM-G920F) is still on Lollipop 5.0.2 rooted with PingPongRoot.
Can I safe use FF to upgrade to Marshmallow 6.0.1 and keep root without tripping Knox??
I read somewhere (on this forum) that this is not possible but just want to make sure before I decide to update.
If this not possible can somebody explain why - I do remember times when we could use OdinMobilePro and update S4 and keep Knox untouched.
Thanks

No ... You cannot get root in 5.1.1 and in MM without tripin knox !

Preparing for 5.1.1

I rooted my Verizon S6E with 5.0.2 and I disabled OTA. I want to be prepared for the 5.1.1 update. So when it comes out what is the best way to update to 5.1.1 with out losing root or triggering Knox?
Until it comes out, I don't think anyone will have a definitive answer. Flashing stock ROMs via Odin will preserve the Knox status, but, as it overwrites the system partition, root will be lost. No two ways about it. The only way I can imagine updating to 5.1.1 and having root, will be in hoping that a root method compatible with 5.1.1 comes out shortly after the update, and you apply that.

[knox] [root] 5.1.1 0×1➡0×0 galaxy s6

Hey devs i have a galaxy s6 g920f and i recently updated it to 5.1.1 via odin wih build number bofj
Im not liking the firmware as it cant be rooted via pingpong so i tried cf auto root but it stucks on the boot screen so is there anyway to root it? Or can i downgrade to 5.0.2 back and i have seen some guys who reset the knox counter (which is shown in the bootloader) so i have got knox 0×1 (00500) is there anyway ican get it back to zero? Any help will be appreciated
 @Chainfire

Is there anyway to root s6 on 5.1.1 without trip knox???

Hey, i got my samsung galaxy s6 new but its on 5.1.1, dont know why i though it will be on 5.0.2 but it is on 5.1.1 :crying:
Is there anyway to root my s6 without trip knox?? I dont want to loose my fingerprint scanner but i really want to root, is there any way???
The modelnumber is SM-G920F and the android version is 5.1.1 and my my basebandversion is G920FXXU3COI9
no sorry not as yet
You will not loose the fingerprint scanner if you root, only Samsung Pay and a few other apps require knox.
In the q&a from the pingpong root thread there is written:
Q: How to root 5.1.1 then since PingPong root will never work?
WARNING: User report that fingerprint sensor and incoming call stop working after using the engineering sboot.
A: The classic recovery root method. You shall find details in many other posts. If you are T-Mobile user, lucky for you that there is a leaked engineering bootloader which make root a piece of cake without tripping Knox warranty bit:

Update already rooted S7 (+Xposed installed)

Hi guys!
I rooted my S7 (SM-G930F [EU-Exynos]) when i first bought it (1 month after release), i rooted it and installed Xposed.
This was a long time ago, but now my phone is begging me once a day to update (which i cant because it is rooted and i want to keep it that way) and this is annoying me.
Now i read alot of threads about installing 7.0 and rooting it but i have not seen a guide to update a already rooted phone (without loosing data) to 7.0.
May someone be able to help me? I dont want to just flash 7.0 and setup my phone from scratch, just update.
And what about Xposed? Is it going to make trouble if i update? Do i have to update Xposed aswell?
Thanks in advanced!
Xposed doesn't support Nougat / 7.0 yet. If you upgrade to 7.0 you will lose Xposed entirely.
I may very well be wrong, but I don't think you can upgrade to 7.0 without doing a full wipe.

Rooted stock ROM

Hi,
Is it safe to root a S7 and stay on the stock ROM ? As Samsung doesn't publish regularly the updates (still on 7.0 ...), I heard that their phones are vulnerable to malwares. Is it easy to avoid it when rooted ? Or should I install a custom ROM to use my rooted S7 properly ?
