How to disable the camera shutter sound (in third party apps too)? - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The option is missing since the 6.0 update. The sound is present in the Evernote camera app even when the phone is in total silence (do not disturb mode).

go to /system/media/audio/ui/ and look for cameraXXXX.ogg and either rename it or cut and paste it somewhere else. no more click

The stock camera app doesn't appear to support that. Many third party apps do.
Your work-around with the stock app is to just turn the ringer volume down...

I have the paid versions of Camera360 Ultimate and Vignette.
There's demo versions for both on the Market.
I don't think Vignette supports no camera sound, but Camera360 does.
I was disappointed that I had to buy two different camera apps to get the features I wanted (use volume buttons to take a pic, and mute the camera click sound). In all fairness to the NS, though, my other Galaxy S phones don't have physical camera button options out of the box either.
another alternative is...
to use root explorer or some other file management app and rename the sound file

Yeah, that works, but a bit tedious if you don't want it permanently off. Maybe an SL4A script and a shortcut that did it (renamed it back and forth) would make it more convenient.
But really, the easiest thing is just to turn the volume off on the ringer until you're threw taking your discreet pictures.

Disable Camera Sound CM7

Is there a way to disable the camera shutter sound on CM7 without the obvious ( turning the phone on silent)? I can't find a setting like in the sense camera app
You can use your favorite file management app (make sure to mount /system as R/W) or adb to delete or rename the following file:
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg

using Root Explorer, in R/W mode, i can delete camera_click.ogg (or rename it), but it just comes right back. thoughts?
Use Tasker and have it turn off system sounds when camera app is open. Works wonders for me.
Also Tasker is perfect for turning my ringer down during work hours, putting phone on Airplane mode in the middle of the night (i average 1-3% battery drop over 8 hours of sleep) and disabling the lockscreen while plugged into power. It's a great program and worth the few bucks.
use root explorer and copy camera_click.ogg and then use ringdroid or another audio adjustment app to shorten the track to almost nothing or make it a silent audio track and drop it back in the right system folder. worked for me.
ringdroid doesn't support .oog filetypes as of yet. I like the idea though...
Any 1 know of an editor that does?
now that I seen this thread the camera sound gets on my nerves
Swyped from a galaxy far far away......
With your phone or computer, make a one second or so silent audio file in either wav or mp3. Look at the properties of the camera_click.ogg to find out what bitrate and sample rate it is. Find a free audio converter program that can go to ogg. Set the encoding parameters to similar of the original ogg file. Rename the original ogg to something else and name the new file exactly the same as the original file. It works, I've done it many times before.
I've also had crashes in the program like camera or camcorder if the sound file is missing.

I just used Root Explorer to rename the file:
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
to
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg.old
Works fine. Although that just silences the actual shutter sound, the phone still makes the beeps after done auto-focusing. Any ideas on that?
Tasker is an awesome tool.

I'd be looking for that also, exactly how to disable/rename whatever sound is responsible for that beep when focusing.
I miss the simple ability to disable sounds from the sense camera... also the ability to touch focus too

You can replace the file /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg with the camera_click.ogg file that I placed inside of the attached zip. This works for CM7.
Wrong thread this belongs in the Q&A forum .
Bumping this up for any information on how to disable or quiet the auto-focus beeps. I read something that hinted that the beeps aren't a sound file but a function call to the tone generator? Is there a modified version of the camera APK for CM7 with this removed?
Regarding the shutter sound, what I do is rename camera_click.ogg to .bak and then copy effect_tick.ogg to camera_click.ogg. This gives a nice quiet but audible feedback that the picture has taken without being too loud. But the focus sound still distracts or wakes the baby...

This will remove all camera sounds from cm7. Flash in recovery

Hey thanks, I'll try that out. Is there any way to disable only the focus sound but allow the shutter sound? If this simply rewrites the camera_click.ogg I can replace it again afterwards - if the APK is modified to not even call it though, is there any instruction on grafting that back in?

[Q] Disable shutter sound entirely?

Mainly an issue I found using 4.0.4. When muting media volume completely, the phone still makes a shutter noise unless you put it on silent mode.
Is there anyway to just disable it altogether by editing system files or whatnot? Or an app or something that can do it? Or reassigning the sound to something less attention grabbing? I usually take picture of slides during class time and it would be annoying for my phone to keep making shutter noises every two seconds for the slides I need.
Thanks!
If you have a headphone jack plugged into it, even if the wires are cut. I belive it silences everything. You can try that. Otherwise CyanogenMod roms have that option built into them. I'm sure plenty of other roms do too.
I'm running AOKP and if it's on silent there's no shutter noise.. I think
just delete the shutter and recording .ogg files.
located in /system/media/audio/ui

There are two methods to disable Google camera shutter sound, if you are stock nonrooted device you have to mute it manually by lower down the ringtone volume which means it's temporary, or if you have rooted device than using root Explorer or es file manager you can disable camera_click.ogg (rename it) which is buried in the following path: system/media/audio/ui this work permanent, if you want re-enable it just reassign the old file name....

How to turn off the camera shutter sound?!? (NOT IN SETTINGS)

Hey, i want to turn off the camera shutter sound when you make a picture or a video but i dont have this option in my settings (cause its not allowed in my country). I have the unikernel and have root. I DONT WANT TO USE ANOTHER CAMERA APP!!! So i navigated to /system/media/audio/ui and i clicked every audio file and i deleted all the sounds that had to do with the camera app and now it doesnt make any sounds when i make a picture or a video ONLY WHEN I MAKE A SELFIE WITH THE FRONT CAM IT STILL MAKES THE SHUTTER SOUND, BUT THE SOUND ISNT IN THE DIRECTORY!!! I only have this problem on the frontside cam when i make a picture!! What can i do to remove the shutter sound for the front cam???
Im on 5.1.1 and i have the unikernel stock and i have a sm-g920f
have you tried CSC expert?. I think it has the option to turn it off. Its in the playstore.
Thank you very much!! i changed the value and deleted the app after reboot and its still in the menu this way i didnt need to change the others.xml file manually

Hi NZnewbie
FYI, I've successfully used CSC Expert for enabling the shutter sound menu option for my Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920I (Aust.) exactly as you have prescribed (Lollipop v5.1.1)
Many thanks.
Hi TheKingOfQueens
Thanks for asking the question.
I too changed the audio files believed to be obvious (via: /system/media/audio/ui )
Cam_Start.ogg
Cam_Stop.ogg
camera_click.ogg
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_multiple.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
................by adding ".bak" file extension at the end and "******_" at the start of the file names.
I didn't delete them.
Immediately, the shutter sound for the REAR camera SEEMED to stop.....but on RARE occasions the shutter sound would occur.
Unfortunately, camera shutter sound for rear BURST SHOTS always happened and I can confirm the same for the FRONT CAMERA shutter sound (I was unaware of this one until you mentioned).
Weird........
CSC Expert is the way to go once and for all!
Many thanks.
The developer deserves a medal or some recognition to encourage him to hopefully continue his good work.
Regardless, I would be interested to know WHY the camera was still making the the numerous shutter sounds even after the renaming of the audio files (pre-implementing CSC Expert).

Sure and funny enough I discusssed it today with a friend but the "Shutter sound" camera menu option only mutes camera sounds whilst providing full "alert" audio for everything else.
"Volume down" also achieves this but taking photos of recent neighbourhood events would make this a chore.
Shame I didn't know about this CSC fix earleir.
