Ares8 5.1 rom from i708Q - Miscellaneous Android Development

If you scroll down to *************************Most current version*****************************************
you can get the latest version install able via twrp.
This rom is from i708Q http://www.iviewus.com/index.php/i-708q.html
Our Ares 8 use 5.0 which has bad memory leak, the rom from i708Q doesn't have the leak problem, so it's a good match for our Ares 8, it's and upgrade plus fixes our tablets leak.
known problems
volume is low on speaker, head set sound is fine
camera doesn't work.
Those that want to try are more than welcome, I tried to find the easiest way for you all to install it, I installed long way myself and tablet runs great, I will just post short way here, I flashed my tablet's bootloader back to 5.0 to make sure this way works.
I have included a windows and Linux scripts, you should only need to set permission on Linux script and it should be good to go, I guess same for windows.
adb reboot bootloader
then launch the script, I just open terminal drag and drop script in terminal windows.
once done tablet should self boot, takes sometime to boot, commands can also be typed via hand if you rather not run script.

Here is twrp backup.
download, extract to twrp folder, factory reset and restore.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24421527759885374
*************************Most current version*****************************************
This is the most updated rom, includes camera and rotation fix.
To install place on sdcard boot into twrp and install like a normal rom or zip file, doesn't contain root, you can flash chainfire su to get root.
Twrp may seem like it's not doing anything but it is installing rom, onced rom is installed you will see a button saying reboot to system, first boot takes a while.
I always start fresh and factory reset, it may or may not be needed you can try either way.
I can't find a solution to the sound being low, so it will remain that way unless someone else finds a solution and fixes it.

Awesome

Anyone tried on Windows yet. I would myself but laptop is down.

Just personal noted, I don't use the live wallpaper, And I removed some apps I don't use, The system.img is complete and defaults to live wallpaper, you can keep or change to regular wallpaper, root and remove apps you don't use.

vampirefo,
I see you are back from vacation. I hope you enjoyed our State!
Just a dumb question more for my education than anything. Why can one not just upgrade with a TWRP image made from your upgraded tablet?

You need root to install this.
I have D838 32GB and it work for me
Backup,Full Wipe,Wipe Cache,Wipe Dalvik Cache,Install Rom works.
Only was not working Restore a Backup.
I make a Testrom, but Aborted Installation. Is my bad,i think the Updater Script have an Error, but the Rom works.
I can confirm this works on my D838 16gb Taiwan model.

recovery without backup restore. riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
The recovery is able to flash zip packages. I flashed a font and it worked perfectly!! The big question is if we will be able to flash a ported rom, lets say from G Flex for example.

[Q] Problem with adb push (Samsung galaxy express 2)

Hi!
I pulled the nandroid backup from my phone and now I can't push it back. When using adb push, it does not finish the process on command prompt (I added a picture below).
When trying to restore the backup in CWM, it says ''md5 mismatch''. I reinstalled the original ROM (CM 11, KITKAT by thewhisp), but all my settings are gone and it's really frustrating to set it up again.
Do you have any idea how to fix this?

Nope, doesn't help. I tried copying the file on my sdcard and to the internal storage as well, but it does not show up in the ROM manager, nor does the manual restore in recovery find the file.

I got the solution for this
1- open your recovery folder
2- open (nandroid.md5) with text editor and clear everything in it , but backup that file to a seperate folder first.
3- try backing up again :/

I tried, but I still get an error during the MD5 sums check: ''MD5 mismatch! /tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM manager to report the issue.''
What I did was I downloaded file manager, opened clockworkmod>backup>nandroid.md5 and deleted all the text, then tried to restore the edited backup file. Did I do everything right?

[Q] Is anyone working on a custom ROM for the OF7 firmware?

It would be awesome to have some information on or about anyone working on a custom Rom for the Sprint S6 running the OF7 firmware...
Wrong place to post this question..
I think you need to read some of the posts... and what he said ^
That would be a no since there is no custom recovery yet
Once we have working TWRP recovery for 5.1.1, I'm sure Sac's updated ROM for OFE build will soon follow.
There is unofficial versions of TWRP that work with 5.1.1.
Check the TWRP thread.

Oh okay. In that case, download a custom rom of choice, Arter or SkyHIGH kernel, flash the latest twrp 3.0 for the GSM note 5 via odin, full wipe, flash rom and kernel.
Also if you're interested. Follow the steps above but flash this rom instead. It's the latest COKC but deodexed and rooted already, you just need a kernel.

Oh okay. In that case, download a custom rom of choice, Arter or SkyHIGH kernel, flash the latest twrp 3.0 for the GSM note 5 via odin, full wipe, flash rom and kernel.
Akari if your interested. Folie the steps above but flag this rom instead. It's the latest COKC but deodexed and rooted already, you just need a kernel.

Oh I see what you mean.
1st boot into download mode
2nd plug in phone & flash twrp 3.0
3rd go in to recovery & do a full wipe
4th flash rom & kernel
The kernel will install root
Nice...

So no need to do any root method just do what you said? Or do I still follow the other tutorial on the general thread?

Basically if you want to stay stock rooted, download a supported kernel like the ones I suggested, find supersu latest beta (google), get twrp 3.0 for GSM note 5, get odin.
Now would be a good time to get an OTG usb drive to keep roms and kernels on as well as backups.
Follow these steps:
Put kernel and supersu on phone or otg
Put phone in download mode and use odin to flash twrp 3.0
Your phone will reboot into twrp.
Make a backup of your entire device in twrp
Flash kernel
Flash supersu
Reboot
You're now stock rooted.
If you just want to flash a custom rom.
Move rom and kernel to phone or otg
Put phone into download mode and flash twrp 3.0
Phone will reboot to twrp
Make a backup of your entire device in twrp
Wipe all but internal
Flash kernel and rom.
How now on custom rom

The kernel will not install root, it just allows root. That's where supersu comes in when you just want to be stock rooted.
To skip all those just flash twrp wroth odin and flash that rom I posted in the link above you quoted of me.
