I have scoured the Internet for information regarding any custom work for this phone.
I stumbled upon samsungillusionforum dot com, which is a dead forum with ancient posts and near zero activity. It seems to be an alias to samsungfascinateforum dot com. Why anybody would set a forum up in this manner is beyond me.
Last month I bought the Verizon Wireless Samsung Illusion SCH-i110. I waited around a month to see if anybody would post any information regarding rooting/ROMs for this phone to no avail.
I plan on trying SuperOneClick to root the phone, but as for Custom ROMS I don't know what is out there.
I would appreciate any and all information anybody has regarding ongoing customization work for the Verizon Wireless Samsung Illusion SCH-i110 running Android 2.3.5.

I too have been looking to see if i can find a way to root this phone...i like the phone, nice and responsive and just a good midrange phone, however i do want to get root access for wifi tethering.... I have tried superoneclick, doomlord, z4, gingerbreak, and universal androot all to no avail... if anyone has success getting this rooted please share the knowledge and it'd be highly appreciated....
I am in the same boat here... My girlfriend recently picked one up and hates all the VZW apps that are installed and we want to remove them and tweak the system a bit. I have scoured through the interwebs for close to 2 weeks trying to find anything that can root this phone. Unfortunately, anything out there as far as I can tell does not work... Same here. Starting to think no one will ever root this phone. It boggles the mind that there is an unrootable android phone on the market. :-(

I was an idiot to suggest to my wife she get this phone from Verizon - I just assumed it was going to be a quick root for this cheap phone and I'd get all that Verizon crap off of it and it'd run great...

It's not that it's unrootable, it's just no one spends time rooting/modding prepaid phones... I'd be willing to work on it but I would need a tester, someone who can use ADB
I personally have tried everything including ADB to root this device. It isn't a prepaid phone. It is a contract phone through VZW

I have the straight talk version S720C Samsung Proclaim which runs on Verizon service.

i Just got my one plus one last week
it was amazing , it was snappy , the screen is gorgeous , and the CM is plain great , albeit many apps did find unresponding oddly enough
i've had many phones in the past that are not so great x10 mini , x8 , galaxy ace, galaxy nexus
all of which are miles away when compared to the one plus
and since they are so freaking lag i decided to root them and gave them root and changed their bootloader
but from one phone to the other all of them seems to die out in about 9 months after i root them , and i don;'t know what i did wrong , most of them are dead because i fried the motherboard or something
still why would you root the one plus when it's already so fast ? i am considering rooting mine but i am really scared i might kill it
First, rooting doesn't make it faster or slower. Also, it doesn't broke the phone neither now or in 12 month time.
Second, you need root for some in depth access on your phone, or some programs like Titanium Backup may require root to work.
Third, the rule of the thumb say, if you don't need it, don't do it!
greenify, adblock, titanium more than enough reasons to root.
I go by the old saying "If you have to ask, you'll never know"
Generally anyone who's asked me if they should root their phone, or install 3rd party firmware, my answer is no. It has to be something you want to do and something you're willing to accept the risk doing. I'm a flashaholic. I flash a new rom every few days, or update existing ROM i have. I'm never content with the status quo on my phone and devices and always play. I accept the risk of running into a situation where I go to make a call, watch a movie, or open a email and my phone locking up due to running bleeding edge untested code. Mind you I can always recover from bootloader and know how so I know I won't permanently screw a phone, just until I can flash a older rom, or recover with a PC. If you have to ask, it means you're not sure about what you're getting into. If you fall into this situation I would refrain from asking others and instead read around in the 1,000's of posts in this OnePlus forum and decide for yourself.
Not that being said, root is simple. It's a more of a "Set it and forget it" type of deal, at least until a OTA update arrives. Custom roms is where the aforementioned comes into play mostly. If you want to start getting into the Flashing world with Android its the place to start. Myself I read and read after I got my Galaxy S4, first real Android phone, and went straight to CyanogenMod with it. Skipped rooting.

He may not be aware of what can be accomplished with root access and find the profits interesting. He doesn't necessarily know if he wants to do if he doesn't know it exists/is possible.
I don't want to flame or anything, but since you've been around for almost 3 years, you should really know better.
Firstly, rooting does not fry your motherboard. Seriously, why would you think so?
The fact that your previous phones became slow after a short while is because you probably got them stuffed with bloatware and have not maintained your phone in a healthy way.
As to why you should root your phone,...
Well, most apps that help you maintain your phone and keep it as optimized as possible require root.
This kind of proves my previous point regarding the speed of your previous phones.
I would start reading some more and eventually you'll be able to answer your own question.

Well that's easy, if your not interested in using apps that need root access there's no use in rooting your device. It's nothing magic which will make your device fly or make a cup of coffee for you.

I'm in the same boat as many of you -- I purchased several Note 5's new from Verizon and then learned that they are not readily rootable....which prevents me from using their full functionality. Irritating.
I have a decent amount of experience with software development/reverse engineering/breaking things/making things work...but I've never messed around with phone firmware before. Usually I connect directly to the hardware chips via JTAG or similar to dump/upload the modified images. I don't really want to crack these sealed phones open though... surely there must be a way to dump/image the phone via the data port? I've read that Note 5 for other carriers are rootable, so how does dumping/uploading bins work for them? What is different about Verizon's model? Are they requiring digitally signed bins? Also I've seen a few people mention Knox....if Knox is tripped does it blow a fuse or can it be reset?

Samsung Knox gets tripped and effectively bricks the device the second it detects root. It blows a fuse. Dead phone.
If you have to ask this question then rooting is not something you need! =D Coming from rooting every phone for the past 5 years, I haven't had a need to root this phone. Granted there are a few things NOT working because of verizon nit picking hsit in the build. Fonts not working for one, nothing that is really a deal breaker. I def dont miss the flashing of builds every week/month, keeping things updated and waiting on developers. Google is smart enough to listen to its consumers and for the most part every new build of android has vast improvements and functionality.. rooting for the most part will be so that you can control the hardware and do whatever you want with your phone, which I believe that is how it should be...i ve stuck with verizon because of the quality of service they provide. Awesome speeds, damn near accessible everywhere, havent had a dropped call in YEARS. But from a tech standpoint, they are a bit ridiculous when it comes to their hardware. I hope they release a line of phones that are rootable and still keep a "protected" option for those who dont want phones that can be tampered with by rooting, security issues, etc.. who knows.. but i wouldnt hold your breath waiting on root for this phone.. best bet is the note 7 coming out and hope a root is found.. but, I imagine its going to just get harder and harder for developers with encryption and new securities..

I understand and agree about the flashing and dealing with the bugs on new roms. All I want is the ability to delete apps I don't want. I know debloaters are out there and they work and that's great and thanks to their developers. I think we are owned the freedom to delete what we don't want. It's like the cable companies sticking us with shows we never want or watch.

I used to feel that way. I used to root every phone I got (if I could) just so I could use Titanium backup to first disable apps and then if I had no problems, uninstall them. Bu with my Note 5 I've concluded it would be a waste of time, even if I could do it. I use Package Disabler Pro (as do many on this forum) and no, it doesn't actually delete apps. They are still there taking up space. but they don't run and unless you are critically short of space, the actual space they consume is minimal. My only complaint against Pakcage Disabler is that I wish it worked on my Asus tablet. but alas, it only woks on Samsung devices.

Has anyone compared Package Disabler to Debloater?
Yeah, Package Disabler is the way to go (IMO). You don't need a computer as with Debloater. Don't get me wrong, Debloater is great, but it's nice being able to disable apps on the go. Not to mention, Package Disabler allows you to export your lists of disabled apps to an XML file, so you can simply import the list back if you need to (say, after a factory reset). Just my thoughts.

It's not rooted yet. There is something in the works, but nothing yet. We haven't given up yet.

no root buddy if ure on mm mm requires bootloader unlock to root and between att and verizon they have the tightest locked bootloader of them all
i got rid of my note 5 but it was the first device that wasnt make or break over root like other posters said get s package disabler and ure good

it disables all the bloatware on ure note 5 even without root saves loads of battery and speeds up the device in my opinion
this one works by being a device administrator and it lets u disable tons more stuff than in the standard application manager on the device

I soft bricked my Note 5 and then had problems flashing with ODIN. After I was able to flash though, the screen briefly showed an unlocked padlock. Is that typical? Is the bootloader rendered insecure when you upgrade for a brief window?
Okay, I know I don't post much in XDA, but I do read a LOT of threads!
The reason I am posting this is because I am wondering if anybody achieved root on this phone.
I have tried KingRoot, KingoRoot, OneClickRoot, none of those work.
It is running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
I am about to screw around with ADB, see what I can do. I'll post back when I have got something.

I've tried every root method available without the PC and nothing. But, there maybe good news. In developers options there's a switch to unlock the bootloader. Now I'm no dev but I hope this makes cwm or tarp easy for devs to port and root.
I found https://mobile.twitter.com/srsroot/status/810325782417592325?lang=en srsroot claims it supports ZTE Z833. I've used srsroot once before but on another phone I have no PC so I can't test it but someone should test Cydia impactor see if it works.

1. I too saw that twitter SRSRoot business and tried it thinking, "Oh joy!" no, not working. Tried it every way you could (yes Kingo, KingRoot, vRoot, iRoot, FramaRoot, uRoot, & we-all_Root (the last two were jokes don't be so serious, nor was it a complete list of what I did actually try, ha!) too). I even wrote the people at SRSRoot telling them that it didn't work and have gone back to download their latest versions, still nada, zip, zero. FML on toast!
2. Cydia Impactor is not for Android devices, it is only for iOS. I went and double-checked just to make sure I wasn't trippin' thinking that maybe they have gone cross-platform. No, they have not.
3. I have the phone in question, I submitted a formal request on here in the best way I could find to get it added to the XDA devices list and I have been eagerly monitoring awaiting the day it happens. I was even considering trying to compile TWRP myself, but I just bought a different phone because I was tired of the headache. I couldn't figure out how to extract the zImage from it in order to give it a go (I think that's what it was). Anyways, I'm writing this before finishing reading the rest of the posts and may be rambling, but I had to respond. I have spent much time doing this. I ended up buying a different MetroPCS phone called the Samsung Galaxy On5 and was able to successfully root it and after much waiting finally got ahold of the Superstarz ROM that finally went out for that one. Just an FYI in case someone happens to see this before making the purchase. I will say that I feel like the ZTE Avid Trio Z833 has pretty good response time for such a cheap phone, then again they had a deal on it in the store, it looked to be more expensive at retail pricing. Anyhow, I digress, but felt the need to contribute rather than just lurk.
Oh, and another thing... The development option to OEM Unlock is "checkable", but as for actually booting to the bootloader it WILL NOT DO IT. The only way this is gonna happen to be rootable is if you use a custom recovery (which none exist yet) in a tar format and ODIN the friggin thing from download mode. So, there's your catch 22. If anyone knows how to extract the zImage and whatnot (without root obviously) I'd be more apt to give it a go and boot my happy bunghole into Linux and give compiling TWRP another go. I finally have had a lot of life stresses temporarily die down since I decided not to leave my current living situation and just stay with these irritating bastards another month at a higher rate. I should mention, however, that SRSRoot attempted to use it's "Exploit 8." So, I went digging into it's directories to see what the script was, but it was binary (and I didn't have reverse-engineering **** handy like PE-ID, and whatever else the kids are using in this newer age). So, I was like "wah-wah", but if any experienced ppl know more about the specific exploits that aren't ancient and actually working with Marshmallow that would be interesting to hear feedback about as well. Thanks. I really would like to use this second phone still, but right now I'm just using it as a Kodi/Megabox HD + AllCast Projector to watch streaming things without having to interrupt my working phone in the middle of it. It would also be cool to use as a straight VOIP phone with no cell service connected, but I've yet to find the free Google Voice VOIP loophole that is currently working. PM me if you know of these
P.P.S. I wrote another spicy post on hardr3set dot info about what crap I felt about their B.S. (weaksauce compared to anything legit which we all know you come to XDA for the meat-and-potatoes) because I was so tired of searching the Goog for root ZTE Avid Trio Z833 and having it be the top result over and over. Finally this has risen up. Thank you for starting this. Oh, and also, please... If you would kindly also request for this device to be added formally, maybe it would encourage development. Not sure how all that works, but yeah... power in numbers right?

Can not be done. This phone is an unfortunate accident by ZTE with numerous problems and they are not small issues but ones that affect the performance of the device. Replace that phone or your only adding to your daily stress.

following, bought one this morning hoping to have a cheap rootable phone.
I got mine from MetroPCS for $29. lol Yes, it's frustrating and has got problems (I've already put two of them through my dashboard and had to replace them, within the first 2 months, but it only cost 30buck so WTH. Anyways, I decided after I destroyed #2 that I was only going to use it for work and add no apps to it, except maybe GasBuddy and Winamp. Other than that, it's stock and I haven't had any real problems with it to speak of (problems aggravating enough to make me want to destroy it yet again).
So my suggestion to anyone who owns this phone, or is thinking about owning one: Don't install any more than a couple small apps, add a 32GB uSD card for music and other stuff, and use the thing as a phone and a media player only. The camera is pretty much worthless for quality photos, so there's really no other use for it. But it makes a great txting, voice calling, and music playing phone!
Of course, if you end up paying more than $30 for it, you probably paid too much. But it sure is a pretty nice phone for 30 buck!

I have a Z833. The phone only lags apps that are over 100mb I'll have test this out agin
I have ordered one of these phones for $20 should be here by Monday. When it arrives I'll be able to confirm if its bootloader is unlocked or not. In the meantime here is the firehose and support files (rawprogram0.xml and patch0.xml) as well as the MetroPCS B16 firmware to be flashed with QFIL or MiFlash. This will allow people to recover their device and hopefully if the bootloader isn't locked flash custom images.

Nah it's not dead. Just use magisk.
What you say is true about it becoming increasingly hard to root your device as time goes by (and in some cases less need for root) but if root is "dying" it wouldn't necessarily be for the reason you listed.
All of those apps are still easily usable with a rooted device provided you know what you're doing.
I'm on a rooted Galaxy s8+ and Netflix is still in the play store, I can use Snapchat just fine and I'm sure Mario wouldn't be an issue either.
Its my perception too that root is becoming less popular though which is unfortunate because its such a powerful tool to fine tune every minute detail of your device to your liking. It gives you a level of control like no other so I'd hate to lose the option completely.

It seems like Everyone who has paid apps especially frown on it...so many people exploiting their work...so I understand to that extent only
I loved having absolute control over my device that I spent more than I could afford to have.
Problem is, well in my case it feels like service providers (carriers) stick it to the paying customer...who not only got #WalletRaped , we also have to follow their lousy ToS...so we are pissed and go find a way to save money by hacking paid apps...which really is stealing from someone...and they cry to Google who turns to the carriers and thus completes the cycle

I can't I have locked bootloader
Rooting is Dead ?. And the intent of rooting was and is not to steal apps it was for personal sercurity. To know who and what apps we're collecting information on you ?. Now any and all apps apps can do that with the blessings ? of Google and sad ? to say xda and other sites like them. They have all been bought. The way of the world. Now, open to attacks, but please start the conversation. We all know it's true ?. Money talks and BS walks!!!!!!!!
Now correct me if I'm wrong and I have been known to be wrong a few times but root is not completely dead yes they are finding more and more ways tree shrink that area and the programming that root hides so it makes it more and more difficult to be able to root a device. But I cannot remember where what thread I read it in so if anybody knows please share it for me but a certain somebody has found and is working on a way to hide root and part of our devices kernals once that is fully achieved it will be hard and a long time before they are able to find a way to stop the phones and certain apps detecting roor
Root is not dying. Right now, @topjohnwu the creator of Magisk, has found a way to root Android Q. Root will live on and new and new android versions will have vulnerability that users can root their devices. The difficulties will increase of course but not necessary impossible. Just need more time to find the perfect moment.
Hope everyone is well I've been away for so long I feel as though toot is dying myself. I joined this for I'm back in 2012 I believe in fact I had a Sprint Galaxy S3 and the minute I unlocked it I was an XDA just... It became my biggest hobby after a couple years I switch to Verizon and got in on the Nexus 6 and Nexus 6p game. I became very involved in me arise sound mod and met so many awesome people the amount of information I learned from 6 years rooting building ROMs and all sorts of things is priceless to me. I must have bricked seven brand new phones over the course of 5 years! The lately I cannot seem to get a phone where I can unlock the bootloader. I cannot get a Sprint phone devil allow me to unlock let alone root... I brought my pixel from Verizon to Sprint had it unlocked and rooted but could not get LTE over voice and it was just a mess. I still have my Nexus 6 and 6p in my opinion they're the most amazing phones ever. It seems now Verizon's even locking everything up.
I'm about to bail on Sprint can anybody else there give me advice on what carrier is still allowing unlocked bootloaders and has a large XDA following. I'm so sick of being a slave to my locked up phones!! I would love to hear as many opinions as I can possibly get I have a big purchaser on swappa, I would love a few of you skip please shoot me some phones that are unlockable and rootable and which carrier is the best for cooperation in this matter.
I've been thinking of T-Mobile but then again do I have to purchase a non-carrier phone? Any help would be much appreciated to get back in the game before I throw any more phones across the room and frustration. I'm finished with Sprint at this point at this time I believe... I get better reception and service with two soup cans and a string! Thank you in advance I'm sorry if this is not the right thread! I just never understood why companies have such a fit with developers here allowing us to customize our phones other than the fact the talent that belongs to this forum blows away the hacks that work for providers!
