Shield Tablet K1 - twrp - SD - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm having a headache with my tablet. I have rooted the tablet but kept the stock rom. Root does work. But apps still can't write on external sd unless they implemented the new way to request access. What I don't understand is that I don't have this problem on my htc one m9 rooted. For exemple, VLC player. On my M9, I can delete file on my sd from the app, but not on my tablet.
The other problem is with twrp. I try to make a backup to my external sd and it says external_sd is read only.
Is there a way to fix these?
thank you

How do I mount SD card as R/W in 3.2?

I just received a replacement Xoom from Moto and its on 3.2. I put a 8GB Sandisk and want to delete files on the SD but I can't. It's mounted as Read Only. What can I do?
root! Can't do it, yet, with stock 3.2.
Stick the card in your laptop and delete the files.
if you're prepared to root there is a solution here in the Xoom Android Devel thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068999
Root it, use this program to remount as read/write and then use whatever file manager you prefer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1173195
I figured I'd have to root it but I was wondering if there was a solution on stock. I'm going to root it hopefully today if I have time.
That sucks. I'm going to just stick in my Evo for now and delete files. It's kind of a pain and dumb that they didn't include it in stock.
Mine is root 3.2 3g. I coonect my xoom to windows 7 pro and able to detect my sd card but unable to put any file there. Any help much appreaciated.

This was told to developers at Google IO in 2011. There's a different API for R/W now to the external file system and developers just aren't using it yet.
The proper fix is for developers to change their apps to support the new API.

[Q] SD Card not writable

I went to Wal-Mart and picked up a 64GB SD card. I just purchased the tablet yesterday and rooted it using towelroot but that's all I've done. I put the SD card in and it's recognized and showing the correct available space. I'm able to create a file using ESFile explorer but I can't do anything with it. I tried a couple torrent clients to download files to the SD card and it keeps saying unable to write to folder or that it's write protected. When in file explorer I can create a file and under properties it does show it's able to be written to. I also have downloaded and tried the kitkat SD card fix app. I've gotten pretty frustrated with it so just did a complete factory reset and going to start from scratch. I was able to move apps to SD card using an app but that's all I could do. I'd really like to put any/all downloaded apps and files on the SD card since I only have a 16GB version.
Any ideas what I can do?

Well just an update after doing a factory reset everything seems to work now, of course i get to download everything again. I think it might have had something to do with the OTA update. After doing the factory reset it kept the update. Now I can freely move to and from the SD card so all is good.
FYI, since you are rooted I would suggest installing the Xposed Framework and then install the "HandleExternalStorage" module, the KitKat update cripples external SD card access so file managers, emulators, and the like can no longer write to the SD card. Installing this module re-enables external SD card read/write access for all applications, it is not the device. There is also an app on the Play Store call 'SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD' which accomplishes the same thing, however the Xposed module is much safer as it can be enabled and disabled at will. Simply install the module, enable it, and that's it.

[Q] Moto G External SD - cannot make r/w!!

Hi everyone,
Like many people, I am having trouble making my external SD card play nice with my Moto G. I have read extensively through the forums and applied all the fixes I could identify (more detail below); however I haven't yet been able to fix the problem.
Specifically, when I first format the card, I can read and write to it; however after a short period of time (anywhere between 24 hours and 5 minutes), the card can no longer be written to.
For example, when I first format the SD card, I am able to do a full Titanium Backup to it However, after a short period of time, I begin to get an "insufficient space" error whenever I try another backup (which indicates that the card has become unwriteable).
First, some basic details:
SD Card
32GB Class 4
Phone
Moto G 4G (xt1039 peregrine)
Firmware - Stock Kit Kat 4.4.4.
Rooted with Busybox and Xposed installed.
Custom Recovery (TWRP 2.8.3.0).
I have already tried the following fixes, none of which seems to provide a permanent solution:
the SDFix App (apologies, can't yet post links).
manually editing the platform.xml file (replicates what the SD Fix app does)
Falseclock's SD Card fix Xposed app.
Some further info:
- I have tried formatting the card both directly through the stock firmware, as well as via TWRP. When I format using TWRP (in FAT32), the write access seems to last slightly longer (although this may have been for other reasons, I'm not sure).
I'd greatly appreciate any advice anyone has on possible further solutions! I would prefer to keep using stock firmware, if possible.
Thanks,
Ben
An additional issue to the above: on my most recent attempts to format the SD card, I have found that when I reboot the phone, the SD card goes from FAT32 to RAW (meaning that the phone now thinks the card is "blank" and can no longer read it).
Is this part of the Kit Kat SD card issue, or do I have a faulty card??

[Q] Updated to 5.1 and having problems with external 64GB SD card

Since updating to 5.1 (latest BlissPop ROM) from 4.4, I've run into a lot of issues with my external SD card (SanDisk 64GB Ultra, also tried 64GB Extreme).
Unable to install apps from apk/amazon app store if they have permissions for the SD card
Unable to move apps to SD under Manage Apps
Inconsistent write ability to SD.
After a lot of googling, I've seen that there's the issue with platform.xml (adding media_rw to WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE), that the SD card needs to be formatted as NTFS and/or renamed. I've tried these without success. I can use Folder Mount to move app files but this doesn't fix the installing apps from the amazon store. I can unmount the sdcard, install and then remount but this is a bit ridiculous.
Are there any solutions that allow the external SD to work consistently and without constant hassle? I rely quite heavily on the additional storage.
Thanks,
-m
I had the same problem with a SD card from Sandisk 64 GB with my Shield Tablet on lollipop. She worked flawessly and a day, I wasn't able to write on it sometimes, some files had disapear, I couldn't mount.... Check your SD card first. Mine was HS. And be aware to make it writable, lollipop don't allow permissions. You must be rooted for that.

I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean. Or how to verify the card is writable. I can write to it using a file explorer with root access, but that's about it.

How can I stop apps from crashing when writing to SD card?

Hi, I have a Huawei P8 lite. I'm having some issues with the SD card on my device. I have rooted the phone and installed an unofficial build of Lineage OS 14.1. Some time ago, I started to have troubles with apps that want to write to SD card. Note that this didn't happen before. My phone seems to be unable to properly give write permissions on the SD card to apps. You know how you need to "Select SD card" on apps in order to give permission? Well, that window doesn't pop up at all on my device, therefore I can't give permissions to apps. Whenever an app tries to write to it, it freezes and then crashes. I've tried many different file explorers and all of them crash when writing to the SD card. Read access is fine, music apps are able to see and reproduce my music which is stored there. I haven't found much info on the topic, I modified the "permissions.xml" file that you can find on the system partition to no avail. This doesn't happen with my PC. My PC is able to read and write to the SD card both inside and outside the phone. Any clues on what I might do?
