[Warning] 2/20/2016 Webview Update Force Close - X Style (Pure) General

I just wanted to inform everyone that I took the android system webview update from the playstore today and it caused several apps to crash, including the playstore when you try to read the description of apps.
If you get these errors just go to playstore and search for webview, then uninstall updates. and don't forget to uncheck auto updates. Hopefully they will patch this soon.

The update hasn't caused any issues on my XT1575. I'm on stock 6.0, rooted and unlocked. I didn't but try clearing your cache.

i'm cool too...stock/rooted/xposed

I haven't had any issues either. Are you on a custom ROM?

Google play crash with CM12 on OPO

Hi all,
I updated my OPO to CM12 and the google play services can't be updated leading to the notorius battery drain plus several other issues.
It's all stock, less than 1 month old unit, what can I do?
The previous version, CM11 was great, the current YNG1TAS17L is creating only problems.
Please help.

Head into settings > apps > google play services > clear data.
After that head down to apkmirror.com and download Google Play Services and manually update the app.
This should fix the systemupdate service bug on the older version of Google Play Services

I have gone back to previous version.
Try this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psvtQB7NizI. I have had to use it several times and still have the trouble. Best case is factory wipe and reload from Google app.

Thanks for your message!
I can't access google play app crashes and I can't upgrade the app via the google play webpage.
I downloaded the latest version of the google play services (it appears to be the same version I already have installed) but I can't clear the data of that app (there is no clear data button just clear cache).
In order to install the apk, all I have to do is select it with a file explorer app (provided I have set the option of allowing the install of non google play apps?
Thanks,
Marc

If Google Play FC, head into settings > apps > Google Play > click clear data and force close
To clear data of Google Play Services, head into settings > apps > Google Play Services > (I think is) manage storage and it'll bring you into Google Play Services app, scroll to the bottom and click clear data. After that, force stop and uninstall any updates you may have for the app.
To manually update/install an app, use a file manager and head into the directory where you downloaded the app and just click on it and package installer will do the job it needs to do
hi all,
**EDIT** 20/10/15
So I wiped my phone again - cache and system. Flashed "cm-12-20150901-SNAPSHOT-YNG4NAO253-bacon" and "gapps-lp-20141212-signed" annnnnd it all works!
I still don't understand the cause of any of my troubles and I haven't tried doing this with CM 12.1 because stagefright is still an issue?
I cannot get Google Play services to function properly on my OnePlus one- have tried Factory resets, installing from a backup, Stock, CWM and TWRP recoveries. installing from apk hosting sites. clearing cache and all data in settings>apps>google blah blah, hoping someone can help me.
- several months ago i flashed TWRP as my new recovery and then flashed SuperSU and I have enjoyed this set up ever since as I love using the app AllStream which requires root access.
- after putting off updating my phone since doing this, I finally decided to update the other day...
- I downloaded the CM12.1 .zip , moved it onto my phone, booted it into recovery and flashed the bastard (figured everything was going smoothly at this point).
- When my phone booted up I figured I would download the Google Play store from the built in browser, and then download all my apps through that, BUT when I logged into my google account the play store said all my apps were already installed???
I downloaded some apps from some apk hosting websites and installed them (allstream, facebook, snapchat and a couple others) they all worked fine.
When I downloaded Google Play services Version: 8.2.99 (8299240) for Android 5.0+ (Lollipop, API 21) from apkmirror.com it installed and then gave me the error "unfortunately google play services has stopped"
every 3 seconds or so.
I have tried flashing Stock, CWM, Philz and TWRP recoveries, doing a factory reset and then flashing the CM12.1.zip. get the error in all cases.
I have tried clearing cache and all app data in phone settings>apps>google PS>clear cache/delete data
I have not had Privacy Guard running ever (some forums have suggested this can cause issues).
**EDIT** 19/10/15
I've realized since posting that I have had Privacy Guard running (i had thought it was a separate app).
I have since experimented with different settings within Privacy guard such as turning the "wake up" and "keep awake" options on or off - no success
No idea what to do now, have I done something obvious? What else can I try? What other information should I provide to help diagnosis?

APKMirror Site - updated apps

I've been looking at the APKMirror site and notice there are numerous updated Google apps which appear to be later versions of the stock versions. E.g. there are higher versions to Google Play Store and Google Play Services to which I currently have (Marshmallow 6.0 MRA58N). Am I safe to assume that installing these more recent versions will be of benefit? I also assume it's likely these apps will be updated with the next release of Marshmallow.
Lastly would installing these more recent Google apps interfere with future OTA updates?

There are multiple misunderstandings in your post.
1. The APK Mirror links are safe to install, assuming you grab the correct ones. For instance, with Play Services, you need the 438 build with the N5 on Marshmallow.
2. Google will push these updates to your phone automatically, given enough time. You will never see update prompts for Play Store/Services, but they still update. You will see updates for the other Google apps.
3. The apps may or may not be updated with the next version of Android. I mean, Android will force an update to them, but the OTA may or may not have them included. I'll say no to this question.
3. Will installing them be of benefit? No. It's generally not dangerous either, though.
4. Does not interfere with OTA updates, as they are put on /data partition, not /system, where the OTA installs.

Try this....go to apps, then find the play services app. stop it, then, clear the data/storage.
Then, go back and uninstall it. This deletes any updates, back to the point to the version that
came with the phone. Reboot. Go to the playstore & update it again, should upt the newest
on your phone.

Google Play Services won't run unless you update Google Play Services

This notification keeps on popping, I already search for solution in the net but still persisting. I tried clearing GPS cache and data, FC GPS, restart, manually updated the app and downloading from apkmirror the latest. Also tried updating from PS but it say up to date and my only option in PS Is to deactivate GPS.
All Google apps are working like playstore, Google search and etc.
I'm on stock, non rooted, exynos, SM-950F/DS, on latest security patch. I'm using swift installer fully updated.

Boot to recovery and wipe cache partition.
Or maybe the ROM has the most up to date version of Google Play Services that the ROM can support but some apps you have installed require a newer version of Google Play Services that isn't compatible with what you have.

Question Webview not detected issue

All of a sudden webview is not detected. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, switch to beta channel, leave beta channel... Nothing
Tried to reinstall Chrome as well.. Didn't help
All apps crash with webview provider missing.
I'm using android 13 and everything worked well until this morning.
I have the exact same issue! On Android 13, everything was working fine and today the majority of my apps keep crashing.
When I open WebView it says that it is not installed.
I wiped the cache, cleared data and uninstalled webview updates but the issue remains. I updated webview and chrome but still nothing.
I wonder what's causing it.

webview dependent apps such as Gmail crash immediately
Last night, after an update of Android System Webview, webview dependent apps such as Gmail crash immediately. I've gone through the troubleshooting, by uninstalling updates to webview, same with Chrome, disable chrome but the issue persists. Any other suggestions?

Update: I was able to fix it!!
I uninstalled the secure folder, and then uninstalled/reinstalled webview and.. voila!

UPDATE:
I managed to fix it without uninstalling my Secure Folder.
What I did was install Webview inside the Secure Folder via the Play Store as well as inside my Work Profile. As soon as I did that apps stopped crashing.
