Hello there,
I'm trying to decrypt backups from WhatsApp. I want to root my phone right now to make it pretty easy to find the key and so I'll be able to decrypt all backups easily.
My question is if the rooting process will change the decryption key of my whatsapp that's currently installed. Because that's the key I'll be needing to decrypt the backups.
P.S. I'll be using a root method that won't delete any data of my phone.
Thanks for the help in advance !
Hi,
I found a few threads on the whatsapp decrypting subject,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2689911
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583021
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770982
As far as your question of rooting changing the key, I would look through these threads, especially the first post or more, and ask in one of those threads if you don't find an answer.
Good luck!

Hey there,
not sure if this is the right forum but I'll try.
Before unlocking the Bootloader I created a backup using PC Companion and MyPhoneExplorer.
Please take a look at the Filesystem and let me know if there is a chance to get the TA.img out of this.,
Thanks and best regards,
Oliver
Pretty sure there's no way to do so. Otherwise the whole "root - backup TA"-procedure would've been obsolete.
I guess your DRM keys are lost.
PS: This is a question so next time please post in Q&A (even if you're unsure about that, a dev section is nearly never the right place )
Hello guys,
this is my first post on this forum (sorry for my poor English, I'll try to write my best), and I'd really like to ask you some advice about my situation.
I used to have an Android 2.3.3 device and Whatsapp installed on it, regularly updated (I still have it, but I'm not using it).
Almost a month ago I bought a new device, with Android 4.4.4 installed, and I immediately put WhatsApp on it.
Before removing SD from the old phone, i saved my backup file OLD.db.crypt8, in order to let the "new" whatsapp restore my messages. Unfortunately, a month passed before i could be able to think about restoring my old messages.
Thus, i have accumulated (?) a month of messages, and i "backup-ed" them in a MIDDLE.db.crypt8 file.
I already managed to decrypt the "middle" db.crypt8 file (extracting the key file from my android 4.4.4), but don't know how to decrypt the OLD.db.crypt8 file.
OLD, in fact, comes from Android 2.3.3, as said, and i got no key file
My final goal is, after decrypting all three databases (OLD, MIDDLE and "NEW" - provided that NEW is the database i'm "growing up" on my phone at the moment), merging the three databases in an only database (and this is possible with the XDA guide i already have read)
Can anyone help me?
Thank you very much

Hi and thank you for using XDA Assist
That's a very unusual situation, but try to ask over here for better help, if no one answer you then try to ask here > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting .

I installed Flashify on Meizu M2 Note . It's rooted with kingroot and I managed to take backup of Stock Recovery and Stock Kernel with flashify . I saved those in my phone's internal memory . But Unfortunately I can not find those any where in file managers ?
Where to locate Flashify backup Files ?
Are those Rec. and Kern. files flashable with other apps ( like my favourite - TWRP ) ?
Anyone with kind suggestion will be highly appreciated .
Thank you .
I really need those two files before flashing ported rom in my Meizu M2 Note .
No one seems here to be caring about newbie queries .

Lol, well, you aren't getting replies because the answer is so simple.
Anytime you install an app yourself, it is installed as a user app. All user apps either create their own folder in the user partition to save data in(user partition is the partition that your download folder, Bluetooth folder, DCIM folder, etc.. are located), or they store their data in your Android/data/(name of the app in question) folder or one of its subfolders.
In your case its in Android/data/Flashify/files/backup/boot/(name of your boot backup)
and in Android/data/Flashify/files/backup/recovery/(name of your recovery backup)
They are restored using Flashify, not TWRP. The backups that Flashify create are a waste of time anyway, if you want to create and restore backups then use TWRP to create them and restore them, not Flashify, Flashify's only function that is worth using is its ability to flash custom Recovery .imgs.
A Google search for that question would have easily answered the question. The fact that you came here to ask means you didn't even attempt a search before asking because if you had then you would have found the answer very easily, questions that can easily be answered with a google search as the kinds of questions that get ignored.
Next time you ask a question and you don't get any answers, it should be your first clue that you can find the answer yourself very easily with a Google search.
The XDA forum rules state that members are supposed to search then search some more before they post their question, this keeps excessive and unnecessary posts to a minimum. You obviously didn't search first, that is very discouraged in this community.
I DO NOT PROVIDE HELP IN PM, KEEP IT IN THE THREADS FOR EVERYONE TO SHARE
Path of storage
Android/data/Flashify/files/backup
Hope this helps
Hi, so some background, it has been a long time since I have touched custom ROMs or root access on an android device (back when the Nexus 2 released) so I don't really remember anything and know nothing about how the android environment has changed.
The reason for my post is that I was "hiding" sentimental/sensitive material in a folder associated with the Google Drive application using a file manager app (cut and paste into Drive folder) so that it wouldn't appear in Gallery scans, and when my drive app wasn't working as expected I (stupidly) uninstalled the update (can't actually uninstall the app on stock ROM) causing the folder to be wiped. Now I'm trying to find a way to recover the files but all the solutions recommended by a google search that I've tried require root and from what I know, correct me if I'm wrong, unlocking my bootloader to gain root access will wipe my internal storage which would probably defeat the whole purpose(?) of trying to recover information as it will overwrite the sectors. So does anyone know of anyway that I can recover this data from my device? I am willing to root as long as it will yield results.
tl;dr - need to recover files on stock P20 Pro (locked bootloader, no root), please help I am lost and a noob now
Thanks in advance!
P.S. This was (incorrectly) posted in the discussion forum before and I have requested it to be deleted

Stop bumping. You are simply in the wrong section. None of us has a Pro model. This is the P20-Forum. Not Pro, not lite. I can not understand why people see 3 different devices as one. Ask here. Good luck!
Hello Gurus
I've tried searching around to find a solution for this but I've faild.
I'm trying to copy my whatsapp key from my (Pixel 4a) phone with CalyxOS installed. However, it seems like it's not possible to access the key without root, and it's not possible to root CalyxOS.
I've seen posts saying it's possible to install Magisk on CalyxOS (even though I'm not sure if that's something I install on my current ROM or I have to reflash everything).
I'd appreciate any suggestions on what's the easiest way to get the key out. I don't need a general root solution, I just need to copy 1 file out, so I thought maybe there are easier ways to get this done.
Thanks a lot
For what it's worth I was actually able to get the key out by downgrading the whatsapp APK and then using `adb backup`
Cheers
