Hello everyone,
I apologize in advance for my English, but it isn't my native language.
I've a N8000 tablet and 2 days ago I wanted to flash Gnabo Rom V8 because I love new launcher, Air Command and new things of Tab S and new Note devices, even if I had Stock 4.4.2 ROM. So the first thing I did was put TWRP Recovery using Odin, and when I rebooted my Note (before install Gnabo Rom), a ban symbol appeared in notification bar, with "No service" instead of "Emergency calls only". I did some researches and I known that is the IMEI number which was deleted. However, I wiped cache, dalvik, data and system, I flashed Gnabo Rom and now I have a tablet with a beautiful system, with wifi, bluetooth, but without imei. So I can't put the sim there to call and use internet because the tablet don't recognize it.
I haven't any backup of EFS folder, I'm very worried, but with a Root file explorer I known that I have a efs folder with some files like mac address, wifi, bluetooth codes etc. I also have a IMEI folder with a "empty" file (mps_code.dat): if I open it with a text editor it says only "ITV" without any imei.
I know a friend who have the same tablet model, so can I put his IMEI file to my tablet and modify it with my original imei (at the back of my tablet)? Or can I modify my imei file with my original imei?
What can I do?
Thanks in advance,
Giorgio.
Modify IMEI is not allowed on XDA .
Suggest first you try flashing a stock rom .
Fails see multiple identical EFS/ IMEI posts on xda .

I don't have any imei, i don't modify mine but only try to repair this problem writing it in a empty file (mps_code.dat). Is it the file which contains imei or another?
However, later I will install stock 4.4.2 rom to try to restore imei.
Thanks for informations,
Giorgio.
Hi everyone,
I searched similar posts on xda and I known that the inexistent imei is due to flash a twrp recovery bigger than 8mb. So tomorrow I will try to install stock 4.4.2 and a smaller recovery (old version of twrp) with a original modem.
I hope well.
Thanks,
Giorgio.

Hello,
Yes it worked! Today I flashed stock rom 4.4.2 with original modem (and recovery) and now I have imei. The problem is when I flash Gnabo Rom: tablet goes on bootloop. I think is an older TWRP recovery. Later I will install a CWM based recovery and I will try to install Tab S Sensation (I like it more than Gnabo).

Hello...this is my first post!!! I would like to start off by saying this forum rules and I have learned so much from you guys here. I have rooted, installed custom roms, bricked, and restored my sgs4g, galaxy exhibit, and huawei prism. The issue is with the huawei. Its not a bad phone, I was able to root it, install cwm, and flash cm7 to it (with the help of your wonderful forum :good The issue is with charging the phone. When you try to charge it while its shutoff it boots into recovery mode. I saw somewhere that it was the version of cwm I was using and updated to version 5. The same thing still happens with this version and its my teenager's phone so this is kind of a pain. Its backed up, and I realize it can be restored but I saw somewhere in your forum someone suggested to flash the stock recovery image. That would be great but I have had no luck finding this image. I tried flashing the only stock recovery image for huawei I could find, but it would not let me (install aborted). I'm running U8650 cm7, but I believe the phones a U8651 (its a prism). Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated

Try flashing my firmware package again, then flashing the ROM again. If you still have these issues, then wipe data/factory reset from clockworkmod. This is working for everyone else reporting, including me.

highly unlikely to impossible in this version of reality.
Look at mac address of both phone. They are the same. And both phone connected to the same ip of a router.
Even i use 2 routers, and connect one each, they seems to drop connection very often.
Unless a phone turn wifi off to let other one stay in good connection.
Do you have another alternative firmware file? So it could have different mac address ?

Looks like you restored the same /data backup to each phone. MAC address is determined by your wifi hardware, not this firmware.

I did not restore anything. While both phones on ics they both worked fine without duplicated mac address issue. Then i followed the instruction of the 2 files for upgrade to jelly bean. I didnt do any back up or restore. Just flash the firmware zip then jb rom zip the. Everything of my data are still there wifi are working fine untill i flash another phone to jelly bean too, both phone must have one wifi to turn off to make another one's wifi works fine.
Do you have the flex and upgraded to jelly bean by this two files? Could you tell me your mac address of your wifi ?

Apologies. I've verified the problem, have traced it to mmcblk0p10, and here's a fix for you that changes the MAC by one:
Flash this from CWM:
md5: 4e7940c1b5d3690e0e38b083f224a7f1 OSCAR-WIFI-MACFIX.zip
NOTES:
This problem is because the hardware MAC is stored in that partition and read by the wifi firmware. It should never present a problem for people unless they have more than one Flex running this update on the same local area network subnet.
The MAC address starts in mmcblk0p10 at hex offset 30204, and an image file of this partition can be edited CAREFULLY with a hex editor and copied back to that partition. Doing this wrong may result in a bricked device.

In recovery (cwm), check the md5 of the file on the sdcard against the posted md5 like so:
adb shell md5sum /path/filename
If it's not matching, you will get that error.
If you don't have the shipping ICS aboot, you may be stuck. You can't flash or boot images if you've taken the jb update. You still haven't detailed what you started with and what you have tried to do and where it went wrong, so it's hard to tell you exactly what to do or even if there is anything to do.
Any idea about stock rom? I don't have cwm. Only need to restore using original farmware. P8010 already stuck.

No stock firmware from Pantech? I thought the firmware in the first post is STOCK? No? What about a caught copy from the OTA from AT&T?
Dear all.
I know I messed up. I've been reading forum threads for months. So I thought nothing could go wrong. First flash compatible CWM, create nandroid backup, flash root.zip from recovery, boot into android, install any root explorer to copy the efs partition contents, backup EFS partition if any current app is compatibl with froyo, then back to recovery to install the rom, etc, etc. Piece of cake.
But I messed up. I should have Odin flashed the PDA file for my BK1 froyo rom locked by Movistar. But I could not find it after many unsuccesfull searches on Google and XDA and a few dozen links to megaupload, so I used a KB3 version instead. Being so close KB1 ad KB3 I believed it would work just to boot android and would probably exhibit erratic or bad begaviour on radios or side stuff I really did not care abour since I want that stock rom out of my phone.
Big mistake. Now I have a working recovery and a nandroid backup after that, but the rom will show the boot movistar logo then reboot. I cannot get to partially working android so I can proceed with the EFS backup with the supposedly newly aquired root access. Any suggestions to get that EFS backup from recovery?
I tried searching but looks like neither ADB or anything esoteric would help. I feel like the only way to go is just a working rom compatible with the CWM I have. So here is the question. Can I install another froyo rom with certainty it won't touch the EFS partition?
If so, I can proceed with the ROM flash, then backup EFS and move on. If not, Is there any other way to backup the EFS?
I believe CM11 installation saves EFS partition then restores it somehow. But I've seen too manny threads and cries regarding EFS, IMEI and basebands to let it go so easily.
Please, do not spank me too heavily if you manage to get better search results. I promise I used the search button a lot.
Thanks a lot!
[EDITED]: Better english and typo correction.
I just noticed there is an option on Odin 1.85 that apparently confirms my conclusions ("Phone EFS Clear" checkbox), but I cannot afford another mistake. If I am wrong the IMEI would be lost and the smartphone becomes an ipod.
Acording to this thread, I can flash any rom that does no repartition as CM does.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329937&highlight=efs
Am I understanding it right?
IMEI is stored in the EFS partition of your device and it is unique for each and every device. IMEI is important and so is the EFS partition on your phone. Whenever you flash any custom rom, the efs partition is never touched and is always present on the device unlike the SYSTEM and KERNEL partition which vary with firmwares.

maksimus0021 gently provided me with KB3 rar file, but I still feel I am missing something. Wouldn't repartition in ODIN delete my EFS partition?
Just to give this thread closure.
I did not follow the instructions to reflash stock and only flahed the PDA from stock. EFS is not touched at all and my IMEI is still in place.

EFS Backup Restore tool for N900
-When you select backup - It will backup and make efs.img file onMyEFS_mm_dd-yyyy-hr-mm_Device IMEI folder on Int SD card, also it will create text file just to stamp time, date and device model while you created backup. Now move both file to safer place.
-When you needs to restore, put efs.img file (your backup) on root directory of Int SD card, run application and select to Restore. Once restore done, Reboot device.
Note : This application is not for just playing around, DON'T restore just to check/test application, Restore option must be used only when you really needs it.

I needs to call again because we have seen now a days that some kernel causing change in EFS and you losing IMEI if you flash older ROM.
I have already explained this in details. Again explaining shortly
- Right now we have found a new base NE1 which used by VN ROM V14 and Stock ROM NF3 (and may be all ROM base now onwards)having kernel that causing some modification in your EFS folder. A modem which is built in with ROM is compatible to read this change and you won't have any issue till you are using ROM.
-In case you downgrade any other ROM then modem of that ROM won't able to read EFS modification and ultimately can't IMEi and you won't have readable IMEI and you won't able to connect to network.
-If samsung implement such changes then all upcoming ROM all will have scenario.
-Now suppose if you have Installed sucj new base and you want to flash other ROM, you have two options
1.Flash any other ROM and after this flash new modem (which is able to read EFS modification) - Remember you have to do with everytime you flash ROM
2.If you have EFS backup which you have made prior to flashing new base, then first flash any desired ROM and then restore EFS backup (which you have made prior to VN ROM V14) - This will remove EFS modification
After this again you are free to flash any ROM - you needs to do it once only
Above said tool have Backup as well restore option. Restore option needs efs.img format. So if you have made backup with any other tool and format is different from efs.img this tool can't restore it.

2 Question D.R
1. using your aroma install in the K1 - 9 Roms i made an EFS backup where is it stored ?
2. if no such backup is found and alas i found my self on VN-V14 how hopeful can i be in regards of breaking our of this NE1 anchor i unknowingly put on my phone
Check Int SD for MyEFS folder. If created on my rom it should be there. MyEFS /efs.img and also build.prop file will be there, which show you when you made it.

Hi Doc
do we have to backup every time we install a new rom , or one solid backup from a good rom is enough ?
Not with every rom.
But if Samsung mess up something then pre and post mess.

If you are using this ROM;
Get started backup ROM legend vn14.1
install a new ROM (modem should be different)
Reinstall the backup legend
Enter recovery
Perform the wipe
re-install the same ROM
Before you install the ROM again I unfortunately did not improve collectively. I'd never use anymore xxudne3 modem.

If you don't have made EFS backup prior to flashing VN14, you have only way is to flash NE1 baseband (that comes with VN14) every time you flash other ROM.

I've had an LG E970 running the stock ROM for about a year and decided to try out CM. I'm new to this, but I did some research and went ahead and rooted the phone, and then installed ClockworkMod. That went smoothly, so I tried to install CM through CWM and it appeared to work until it finished booting up and led me to the encryption PIN screen. My PIN from the stock ROM won't open it. CWM can't mount the encrypted data partition to wipe it.
I can boot to CWM or the CM encryption screen. I tried doing a restore on CWM but keeping getting MD5 errors. I haven't had any luck finding the stock ROM anywhere online, I tried an LG tool to get the kdz but it kept giving me error messages when I entered the serial number. I used Titanium to backup everything beforehand, but I can't figure out how to use the files to restore the old ROM. I can put files onto the SD card with my computer, but don't know if that'll be any help. I tried using the ADK to connect to the phone in fastboot, but the phone doesn't show up when I enter the fastboot devices command. Will an older version of CM thats based on the same version of Android the phone was encrypted with be able to open the data? I've tried researching this but everything I've found suggests going about it in different ways and nothing I've tried has worked.
If anybody could give me any help I'd appreciate it.
You may wish to refer to [GUIDE][E970]Using LG Flash Tool To Flash .tot Files {Alternate To LGNPST}[WIP]
Of note to you is Post #8 If you still have issues, you can post on that thread as well.
I followed that guide, but got stuck because the LG Flashtool is identifying my phone as a Nexus 4 and not allowing me to install the E970 files. I think the phone ID changed because the CM version I downloaded was converted from the Nexus ROM. I was able to flash an earlier version, but it had the same problem. Do you have any suggestings for a ROM with the correct phone ID? Is there any other ROM that might be able to decrypt the stock Android encrypted data?
Thanks!
I fixed it!
By plugging my SD card into the computer, I was able to add new ROMs to it and flash them in CWM. I was trying out different ROMs, hoping one would show up as the right phone model in LG Flashtool, and I found one for LG Official Kitkat 4.4.2 Stock. It was able to decrypt the data and now my phone is usable again. I'll revert to the stock recovery, wipe the phone (including encryption) and then start over with CM.
Here's a link to the ROM in case anybody else has this problem later:
