Confirmed Details - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Here are a couple of details that I was able to confirm.
(Hint: I was holding the new device in my hand)
1. Combo MicroSD/Sim slot. Yes the SD card slot is back. According to Samsung, you are able to pull the combined tray with no effect of having to remove the sim card at the same time.
2. 3000 mAh battery. The battery is pretty large and takes up a huge chunk of real estate within the back cover. Again Non-Removable.
3. No IR Blaster. Samsung is done with IR. According to Samsung they have no intention to bring it back.
4. Beveled Glass. The glass has more of a bezel on the front, instead of the slight bevel to the frame on the S6, it is much more pronounced.
5. Curved glass back. If you want to know about the curve look at the s6 edge. It is pretty pronounced.
6. The Camera hump is all but gone. That camera hump on the S6 and Note 5 was huge and was a major complaint. Samsung scaled it back.
7. 12mp Super OIS camera. Yes it was scaled back but the aperture is better and low light pictures were crazy good.
8. Front facing flash... well the screen flashes.
9. Micro USB no USB Type C. According to Samsung Type C is still, at the moment, a flagship or 2 away.
10. 5.1 inch screen.
11. Wide Angle front camera. Sounds familiar.
12. 32 and 64 models will be available. Conflicting Stories here. Removing until confirmed.
13. Heavy. Compared to the s6 it is a fairly heavy device, on par with the Note 5 weight class. Thicker milled bezel adds to it as well as the bigger battery.
14. Confirmed colors - Black (Real black not Sapphire Black, Gold, Silver)
15. Home button is ever so slightly more recessed in without the silver bezel around the button. Fingerprint scanner works faster on recognizing and unlocking the phone. Compared side by side it unlocks about a half second faster. recognizes prints easier without having to rotate fingerprint while adding.
I'll update if I see or hear anything else.

How bad are the fingerprints?

Pretty much the same as the s6. The front screen did not take too many prints but the back is just a huge mess. Something I fight with on the Note 5.

Regarding 12, my rep mentioned it would be strictly one class, since they brought back the SD card. How'd you confirm it, so we can figure out which one is right?
It does have Marshmallow out of the box, as well (not that I think there was much doubt at this point).

My rep stated it was both 32 and 64 even with the SD Card. I think I may remove that one considering the conflicting stories.

Yeah, mine mentioned that Samsung saw what a cluster the different classes were (32/64/128) and that they wanted to offer a single device that would be available anywhere that sold the S7 (whereas now with the S6 a lot of places only have the 32, maybe the 64, but in different colors and... yeah, cluster!)
He also mentioned they'd be releasing a thing to take 360-degree video for use with the Gear VR. If I could actually use the Gear VR, I'd be way more excited.

I heard the same with the VR, I wouldn't mind some kind of extra in regards to it. The s7 fits into the Gear VR set as well. Another reason why they kept it the size they did. Supposedly if you pick up an s7 you are supposed to get a free one anyway.

It is supposed to be if you pre-order only.

Are you sure about the 3,000 mAh battery? Other sites are reporting 2,800. Did you see the phone with the back cover removed?

Bummed to hear it's noticeably heavier than the S6, which is already heavier than my wonderfully light S4. The two things I strongly disliked about the Note 3 I briefly owned were: too big for 1 hand, & the massive weight in my shirt pocket. A larger battery adds weight, of course, but Note-class weight in a 5.1" phone sounds terrible to me. More weight = harder impact when dropped. I'd actually pay extra to get a lightweight & FAR tougher polycarbonate body. I'm one of the people who doesn't care at all what a phone looks like, though.

What about waterproof?

Does this include the Edge? Since that has the curved glass not sure if that would fit the Samsung VR Gear or not.

My guess from all the leaked photos is that it isn't water or dust proof. This makes me rethink upgrading from my s5.

Yes. Checked the internals on the phone and it was showing 3000mAh under capacity.(However Samsung has been known to change things right up the the point of launch.)

The phone is supposed to to be IP67 Waterproof and Dust resistant. No way to check it though. But from what I've heard a Samsung Rep was fired after posting a picture of it in the toilet. (Hearsay though)

Wireless Charger Module, S4 or S4 active

Just thought I would share a cheap accessory I found. This is a wireless charging module for a QI charging base. In the past I have bought alternative modules (this one) and they never seemed to work right. I would spend a lot of time moving my phone around trying to get the charge working(my wife always got so annoyed)... but this one does the trick.
I have a S4 Active and it works flawlessly, you may lose the water seal but it is worth it in my opinion. I picked it up at Tmart (here)... these guys have always taken care of me(fast shipping and so on).
Here are some pictures of how it looks, I also bought the gold battery works great and has great battery life(a little less than the OEM):
If you have never seen how this works... basically just insert the module, put the back of the phone back on and toss it on the charger. Hope this helps!

I don't get it.
Why bother with S4 Active (instead of regular S4) if you don't care about water seal???
What is the purpose of switching from original high quality Samsung battery for "gold" one with smaller capacity??? Does it have some other Austin Powers or Goldmember magic powers? Was it desperate move to get rid off NFC from your phone (you know, PRISM is watching us)?

I had the s4 and the active is much better, the LCD kills the amoled I'm and that was the selling point. Water resistance is still nice and I think if I was to drop it in water it would hold up a little better than the s4. I use the second battery as a back up so I can go multiple days without a charge. I don't use NFC much so no problem there. But thanks for your concern .
Oh almost forgot... the Active doesn't scratch or break as easy, it is a lot easier to see outside(screen)... it is what the S4 should have been... I like the hardware buttons because I don't accidently press the back button when playing games... The brush metal on the glass looks better than bubbles... It has a better build quality... Plus almost all the features of the regular S4....
How does the charging module perform through a thick(3mm) case?

Yes, now it seems quite reasonable.
I personally prefer SAMOLED over LCD, so I think it is great move of Samsung, that they differentiated Galaxy line so much, that everybody could much features and specifications set to their preferences/usage/needs.
Keep in mind, that S4 Active uses Gorilla Glass 2, while regular S4 have latest version - Gorilla Glass 3 (it is 40% more scratch resistant and 50% stronger by manufacturer's specs).
btw. gsmarena rated battery endurance factor (measures battery lifetime for average usage model) for regular S4 S600 for 69h. For S4 Active they measured 57h. It is half day difference. That was for stock batteries in both phones. If you switch S4 Active stock battery with non-genuine battery ("gold" or other questionable zerolemon etc.) this difference will be even more than half day. Probably close to one day. This is huge difference in real life experience.

Well on the s4 I have used I got scratches on the plastic easily, the active has taken everything I have thrown at it and not even a tiny scratch has surfaced. The glass is less but it is also cheaper to replaced... The lcd and digitizer is only 100 bucks which is half the cost of the s4's equivalent part. The battery life between the s4 I have and the active seem the same and I can get easily 24 hours on a charge with about 2 to 3 hours of screen time. The gold battery is perfect for what I use it for and I am well pleased. The LCD looks much better than the amoled, I had to return it because of the cartoonish looks and ugly whites personally it was a turn off. If they would just get rid of their pentile pixel layout the screen would be amazing.
Basically you have 2 types of people, some love over saturated screen and some like natural. Samsung has got both camps covered with both of these phones. For me the active is the phone I have been waiting for from Samsung. The regular s4 is awesome and I wish they had a version with lcd but the only choice I have is this beautiful active.

Active S4 Active wireless receiver up in Ebay today
ebay item number 181200237784 Ive sent him a message saying it wouldnt fit he replyied the following: I've had both in my hand and it fits I wouldn't put something up if it wasn't for what they say it was.
Just a heads up only 2 units left

Screen size b/t the Note 3/4 are the same, can I use my existing screen protectors?

So, the same screen size between the Note 3 and 4 means I can use the screen protectors I have on my current Note 3?
5.7" correct?
I think so
Note 3 rooted knox 1, my last Samsuck crap. I want freedom. Stay away from Samsuck!
If true, yay.
Depends on whether or not the proximity sensors on the front of the phone have changed or not. Personally, I wouldn't bother and would purchase one made for the Note 4.
Sensors are the same on front on note3-4, look at pictures

What kind of a super rare/expensive screen protector are you talking about reusing, instead of just buying a new one specifically for the $800+ Note 4 you will have just obtained? As well, the glass on the Note 4 is not flat, it has rounded edges(not talking about the Note 4 Edge), which may prove interesting for screen protector production.
The front facing camera seems to have a bigger hole and the edges of the Note 4 are curved so the same screen protectors might not be the best to use. Get a good new one.

The Note 4 "should" cost a lot less than it does. Given that it's no more than an incremental slight upgrade from the Note3, I'll upgrade when I get around to it. There's no rush in it for me. I may only get it because my T-Mobile Jump plan lets me. However, I take issue with the whole "$800+" upgrade stuff. I want to know what I can repurpose from my existing device such as screen protectors because honestly, I just don't see buying everything all new again simply because they moved this up one number.
I'll wait and see for myself if anything is compatible between 3 and 4. Thank you for all your feedback.

Why did you even ask then? If you were already set on waiting or possibly not upgrading? Please tell me that saving money on a glass screen protector didn't make the difference? Cases will be different as well.
As for cost- NONE of these phones are selling for anywhere near what would be reasonable considering what they cost to make, but the curved screen and the fact that it is 4K, plus the hardware improvements to the camera (it now has optical image stabilization as opposed to digital image stabilization)... those 2 things alone i am sure they use to justify the bump in price. Is it overpriced? Sure, but aren't they all?
Looking at this video, it looks like the home button on the Note 4 is just a bit bigger. The cutout for the home button that is on my Note 3 tempered glass screen protector fits just right so I'm thinking it will be too small. I could be wrong though.

I've always wondered about this & situations about cases but to each their own.

Samsung and Quality

Just a quick report of my journey buying a S8 without any issues in Germany. I had now 5 S8 midnight blacks here. Every one had atleast one issue of rhe following.
Yellow tint or green tint with non uniform white. Not removable by white balance correction. Light leak above front cam and iris sensor or at edges of the glas. Bixby and power buttons were also often too loose.
I have now written a message to the office of Samsung Germanys CEO Office complaining about their Quality Control. I think im done now. Its really annoying. This is in my opinion not acceptable for a premium phone. Its impossible to find a phone that has not at least one of this issues and i fear that S9 wont be better.
Lol and they confirmed all of these defects?
Mann when I hear this I am so happy with my s8+ coming from a one plus 5.
Bet you wouldn't succeed having 5 swaps with the customer service of one plus.
It was at 5 different shops but they all said that this should not happen. Before i had a sony and there was everything fine from the beginning.
Well I bought it and it's working flawlessly. Might be you are the lucky one chosen Moreover I bought it online.
I will at least comment on a few of these
I have not any of the screen tint issues but my device was made in november of 2017 so a later production
But my biggest things is the power button feeling loose.....I like this...AS in the past on sammy devices i have owned and i mean all of them the power button eventually feels so tight and sticky despite taking good care of my devices....In past there was no fix except disassembly The S7 I would run under a tad bit of water to temp clean it and free it up...So IMO the looser buttons are a blessing......But sammy does seem to have a quality control isee here in the last few years it seems
I would also like to add to this
I have only removed my cheap plastic sim tray about 5 times and quite carefully I might add... but despite this it still broke in less than one month of use and sammy says Oh we so sowwy. Physical damage not covered by warranty Please pay 15 dolla fo new sim card tray....
Screw that.. I found metal dual sim trays online for 3 bucks for 2 of them but coming from china take a month to get here......
Well i tried it today the last time . was the 6th device. not happy at all.
everything is now fine. no light leak above camera/iris and also buttons are ok. but:
The screen is shifting its white so badly when tilting a bit the device on the Z-axis or Y-axis that this must be a joke. From yellowish normal, to a red/pink hue that goes from botttom to top deping on the amount of the angle, then a bit green and back to yellow. Don't know if this has something maybe with the polarization filter or a coating to do. I had a s7 and this was never a problem there. i wouldnt even care when this would be only for the Y-axis as im not looking from the side to the phone but often from top or bottom. skin tones are fading into green at a specific angle in landscape. When editing photos (whitebalance) i need to have a correct whitebalance for at least some degrees that are in common use.
when i saw at the store a new sony booting up with the white bootscreen then i saw again what is possible with IPS i was shocked what samsung is doing here. its a bit sad because the s8 is a really nice phone. lets see what the s9 will be.

Need advice about new phone.

Hello, I bought Samsung galaxy s7 in 2016 and its still working till now super fine. Today the screen just flickered some how and I think my phone is about to die.
I was thinking of buying a new phone.
I want it to be flat screen with aluminium frame in sides and back (glass in back is fine too) I rarely use camera too, I also want it to be super amoled. I want it to feel premium in the hand too.
Which phone you guys I should buy with these requirements?

Try clearing the system cache and a hard reset.
Is the battery still good? That may be the issue.
If exposed to water... that is the issue.
What price range? Any good phone generally comes with a good cam nowadays.
You can get a new Note 10+ N975U1 256gb, 12gb ram running on Q for $800. Picked one up last week, it's pristine.
I would stay away from anything running on 11 though.

I haven't cleared the system cache or did a hard reset in 2 years, so I am sure that would help!
The battery is still decent, I mean it's not as it used to be but it's doing fine.
What actually happens is that screen went crazy for like 10 sec (it flickered and shows lines and shaky pictures, then I pressed the power button and it won't back to normal) this is the first time this incident happens to me since I bought the phone. The phone is actually a beast, never lag, and feels premium, If there is still a fresh new one in the market I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.
I am not sure about the price, to be honest, I think your suggestion is very good, I really lean to Samsung, But I don't like Note's :-(
I just want something like my current S7 (None edge) with let's say a bigger battery and a bigger screen.

If it's not repeatable it will be harder to troubleshoot. Try what I suggested. It's long overdue a system cache clearing. If it flickers again try plugging into the charger, if it stops it's likely the battery. Check for signs of battery swelling.
Try flexing the frame, gently, as well to check for a loose connection, display or mobo failure.
The 10+ is a beast and built solid. A case is mandatory for this corner hitting brick that also loves to face plant. It doesn't seem large to me at all anymore. It's very slim 7mm, so even with a good case it doesn't seem that large.
The spen is great as a remote shutter release and smart select is very handy which I use it for a lot now. The curve screen is the nesting place for One Handed Operation plus, no waste here.
The display is gorgeous (no rounded corners) and still one of the brightest with better color rendering than most newer phones. It's a flagship phone in every sense with snappy performance and about 10+ hours SOT. The Buds+ couple seamlessly with it. It still retains its on screen navigation buttons on Q. The Galaxy Store customization on the stock variants are the best on the planet.
Lol, I'm biased as it is my weapon of choice. I picked it over the N20 Ultra for a number of reasons a week ago.

And it still has the heart monitor!
You're welcome.
Water damage is insidious and pervasive. The faster you disconnect the battery and purge it, the better the outcome. It's possible there's some light corrosion on the ribbon cable contacts, reseating them may resolve it.
A very -little- WD-40 helps. Never get any solvents around LCD displays as it can poison them.
It is possible to salvage water soaked electronics with quick action. My Buds case went straight for a full hot cup of coffee, cream and sugar. Damn thing must have been Pav Tack guided, dead center of the cup. Straight to the bottom.
I couldn't disconnect the spot welded battery but I torn it apart, flushed with RO water, then with copious amounts of anhydrous isopropyl alcohol, dried. 2 years latter it remain functional.
I drank the coffee too
IMO when it comes to modding & rooting SAMSUNG phones aren't the best choice.

Question the s22 ultra changing color temperature for no reason

every since the first update my s22 ultra has been subtly changing the color temp i started noticing it more and more now, i have eyecomfort permanently off and the color settings as cold as possible green and red 0 blue max so this is a bug or a feature, samsung told me they'd investigate and get back to me they never did, they couldn't tell me if it was a feature or if it was a bug, and it's ruining the experience for me.
if you have sensitive eyes you will notice swaps in the color temp

Try clearing the system cache.
Try a hard reboot as well.
Try in safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app causing it.

You got to get the timing right.
Sometimes it's the first try, other times my fingers get stupid and it takes 2 or 3 times.
Connect the cable to a computer, not to the charger. As soon as it says Galaxy let go of the buttons.

so just keep it connected then hold the buttons then let go when it says galaxy?

Yeah.
Turn if off > connect it to a PC > Hold Power + Vol Down until it reads Galaxy and let go.

it's difficult to know if this is by design or not as samsung always brags about less blue light in their displays

Samsung limits the higher wavelengths of blue, not all blue bandwidth.
This not the cause of this issue.
There are issues with all variable rate displays as they are extremely hard to color calibrate and because of this the color rendering index suffers.
Failure rates are higher as well. This issue could be from software ie a 3rd party app, firmware or a hardware failure.

i've noticed the issue more and more now, that and the lag means i'm sending it back tomorrow, the phone is perfect when it comes to design and display but thats all it is, and thats not enough to justify the cost.

That sucks but get the junk out of your face.
I would've like to get a new flagship Note but Samsung lost the mojo and just keep dropping the ball. They even forgot their name. What's the name? Note! Samsung's idea of a power user is now someone that uses their phone as a hand warmer
There's been numerous issues with the variable refresh rate displays starting with the N20U.
Samsung screwed up the form factor on the N20U as well; the N10+ is 7mm thick and the spen is on the right side... meaning the right side!
The S20U shares the same bloody faults but less cam bulging. I don't like thick women or phones...
Android 12 is a dog, and Samsung screwed up their hardware by stupidity and some of it was because of variable refresh rate displays technology or lack of.
Because all those blunders I went with my second new N10+ a N975U1 256/12 gb for $800. No 5G or high refresh rate but the display has the best color rendering index and white point out there, still. It's a rock solid gorgeous work horse with excellent build quality. It's running on Android 10, no scoped storage or force encryption. Even with a smaller battery and slower memory it beats out the newer Samsung flagships in SOT.
It's SD card slot is getting a V30 1tb Sandisk Extreme to keep up with my expanding database.
No cloud storage needed.
This 2.5 yo twin is heavily used, looks and runs like new, literally.
One replacement battery is it's only repair. The current OS will be 2 yo in June. Fast, stable and fulfilling its mission. I'm not buying the newer is better hype from Samsung or Gookill Android

i had the note 10 but i sold it back as it suffered from a way too warm display samsung service said they found no issues eventually i just sold it at a 200 dollar loss, i loved everything about it but i am really sensitive to warm displays extremely sensitive if it's a tiny tiny bit past what i prefer it will look yellow to me just yellow i don't know how people can handle anything but cold displays it literally looks yellow, so screendisplays are always a hit and miss for me, second the design of the note 10 it wasn't perfect, if you look in the corners theres a very subtle curve, the s22 ultra is perfectly flat at the top and bottom a perfect tube design like old nokia lumia or the sony xperia xz and xz1, only thing more perfect would be getting rid of the displaycurves making it a perfect tube display
honestly if it wasn't for the minor issues the s22 ultra has then it would have been absolutely perfect but even then at that cost it's better to get a foldable if they looked better, foldables look terrible to me with their asymmetrical design they don't have to as it's a designchoice the only thing they have to or well technically they don't have to do that either but the only thing they have to is to not fold shut completely, if samsung got rid of the asymmetrical design and made it more squared off and folding shut it would be an obvious choice for me, but my choices in tech always depends on design and not the functionality
right now i have a huawei mate 10 pro and honestly with it's 9 hours sot it's enough for everything it's a perfect phone to me, and the last thin bezel phone with a square flat display, it only needs a screen replacement due to scratches.

Not the N10, N10+ with its display set to "natural". I wouldn't call it warm, it's color temperature is about 6600K actually a bit on the cool side. I've tested it's color through put, cam to display and it's spot on.
If you had a N10+ that had color issues it was defective. It's the best display I've even seen.

yeah but i can't handle so called natural colors, when growing up i had my crts set to 11000k thats the temp i prefered anything else looks yellow and brown to me on the s22 ultra i have it set to the coldest as well as green and red set to 0 and blue max
i like vibrant cold colors on a display with the highest brightness possible

You want those settings if viewing outside or direct sunlight to offset the washout effect otherwise not.
It's also burning up the display.
