Hi
I have the hu in my s-max, i've tried two diff, usb modems with no luck, the modem shows that it's on-line but i can't find it on the radio, the little triangular icon never pop-up, and absolutly nothing happens, the modem i'm using is identical to the one carjoying sell on there webshop. they have a video showing it's plug'n'play, but on my nothing happens
i've tried the dongle on my laptop and it's working after install, but problem is, i cannot install on the hu, and looking in settings it only have acces to wifi connection.
would rooting the hu help me installing the dongle ?

Hi everyone, how are you doing?
The thing is i've got an HTC Desire with no data plan (only wifi), and i also have a (paid) 3g (3.5g+ says on the box) usb modem (for the laptops).
My question is, as you already suspect by now, could i use the 3g usb modem to give internet to my phone?? (maybe its a dumb question... i dont know.... it does seem to work on some android tablets).
I dont mean like plugging the modem to a laptop/pc and sharing the laptop's connection via conectify (or some other software). i mean plugging the usb modem to my phone directly.
thanks in advance.
Hi there,
I've tried to connect a USB 3G dongle to the TF700, although the light indicator was blue (which is a good thing), there was no internet connection.
After reading about it , I understood that there should be "mobile networks" under settings.
For some reason we actually don't have this option (TF700 nor TF300).
Is anyone been able to add this feature to the TF700?
I am very surprised that Asus decided to exclude it from their firmware...

You need root and UMTS Manager software from Market. It's free.
Everything works with it, I checked TF 201, 300 and 700. Both dock's USB connector and USB Connection Kit.

hi, so having root and UMTS Manager software, once plug in, i will be able to surf and use via the 3G dongle?
may i also know what is the device u are using to plug in with?
I have a UG802 and would like to connect it via a wired connection for better speed than what I get with wireless. I have a USB/ethernet adapter, but ethernet is not detected when I plug it in, even though the ethernet light is on on the adapter. I tried manually switching on ethernet in the settings, but the switch just slides back to "off" after a second, presumably because it is not detecting the network. Any ideas?
Thanks
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? I tried another USB/Ethernet dongle, same result. I have no idea if there is a "right one" or not or how to find it if there is a "right one."

Turn off wifi
if it a pre built system and you just installed windows there should be a mb driver cd that have the Ethernet drivers on it. if not you have to go to your mb vendor web page or the ethernet vendor web page and download the drivers if there not installed yet.
Hello,
I have a Joying 5.1.1 HU with RK chip which has absolutely horrible Wi-Fi connection. I recently got a freedompop account (Sprint's network) which gave me a wifi hotspot.
I plan on taking the sim card from the wifi hotspot and putting it into a LTE USB dongle (either Franklin U770 or Netgear 341U for Sprint bands).
1. Is it as simple as plugging in the dongle to one of the USB ports on the back of the Headunit?
2. Is there possible compatibility issues between brands of dongles?
Thanks.
Better to buy the dongle at Joying website, to avoid compatibility issues...

1. Yes, if your USB 3G/LTE dongle has already pre-configured (also, not PIN enabled), mine works this way.
2. Yes, you may refer to some of the threads/posts here or in MTCB forums for the list of compatible dongles. I have 2 3G dongles on hand but only one worked.
Also, mine has "USB3 is not mounted" issue quite frequently since I started having the dongle plugged in. I have tried to switch between the 2 ports given and also flashed a few ROMs, to no avail, same thing happened. Not enough power maybe? Still looking for an easy fix. Maybe a seperate Mifi could work or I stop playing music from USB instead.
Erisin (LM) MTCD unit. This works for me:
1. Huawei E220: disadvantage is that it needs two USB slots, one for additional power, else won't work properly
2. Huawei E367: not recommended, because it's dual-mode (includes USB storage mode). By default it's in USB storage mode, to make it work I have to use PPP3 Widget after root.
To answer both your questions:
- yes, compatibility issues can occur, check MTCD thread on pda4, there is a list of tested modems. Other than that, you need "Mobile Network Settings" apk, if you don't see the menu in settings, so you can configure the APN.
Hi. i would like to know if there are any compatible 4G dongles ... ?
This may be useful to you - I currently have issues with using a WiFi dongle on my XTRONS GS MTCD.
The head unit boots in about 1s from standby, but the WiFi dongle (XTRONS 3gdong008) takes about 20-30s to boot.
If I want to get nav / streaming music running, I have to sit there for ages while it turns on and connects.
Very annoying - I've gone back to using my mobile as a hotspot for now.
I'm considering adding a permanently live USB port and leaving the WiFi dongle always running, although I'm not sure if this is going to drain the car battery while parked overnight.
So I ran into this problem recently after I installed an Android headunit into my car. The device can only receive internet one of two ways. Either I use my hotspot on my phone and connect to my phone's internet to allow my cars headunit to play music OR I use a 4G LTE USB dongle and attach it to my headunit directly. The problem with the second option is the following. When I plug the 4g LTE dongle into the USB port of the Android headunit, the device is not recognized. I know the device works because I've plugged it into my laptop and received internet no problem. I'm assuming this is because this particular USB dongle only operates using windows RNDIS driver. Since it seems there are very few products on the market (4g LTE USb sim dongles), the best solution I can come up with is maybe compiling an RNDIS driver for Android? The current dongle I have is the third one Ive purchased, the first two didn't work at all with my GSM sim. One was just faulty and the other for European Frequencies. I'm wondering if compiling a RNDIS driver for Android would even work in this case so that my car headunit can recognize and receive internet from the 4g LTE USB dongle.? Or if anyone knows of a dongle that works with gsm sims and works fine with android?
