[APP] [Xposed] Phone Number Fix - Android Apps and Games

Introduction
Occasionally, the phone number meta-data inside your SIM card can be inaccurate, or non-existant. Unfortunately, modern versions of Android don't allow this to be changed...
This app makes use of the Xposed framework to allow the SIM number meta-data to be changed.
Download
This app is available on Google Play (which also includes IAB donation facilities): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.liam_w.phonenumberfix
Or you can download the smaller version (which doesn't include any of the IAB stuff) from the downloads tab above.

Or when your network gives you a replacement SIM with no phone number.
Personally, I'm surprised there isn't a way to do this in stock Android. It's a bit annoying...
I just released version 1.0.3 to github and the downloads tab (I'd released it to Google Play earlier last night).
It removes the verification (libphonenumber wasn't playing ball), however it adds a notification on boot if the number was successfully changed.

@yanowman I have three use-cases:
1. A user gets a SIM card from a new provider (or the same provider on a different plan), which comes with a mobile number. This mobile number is embedded into the SIM meta-data. The user then ports their existing number from a previous provider (using a PAC), and the number embedded in the meta-data is incorrect.
This happened to me, and Google Play receipts using the operator billing system were showing the wrong number (when I switched to a contract).
2. A user gets a replacement SIM, or a SIM with no number meta-data. This can happen on MVNO's, where SIM's aren't provisioned at manufacture (such as giffgaff). This can cause either annoyance, as the My phone number part of the SIM status menu shows 'Unknown', or it can cause issues with a small number of apps that wrongly expect a number. (This happened to me when I get a replacement Nano-SIM for my Nexus 6P).
3. A user just wants to be silly and change the number embedded in their SIM, for some unknown reason.
Liam

This could be just what was I was looking for, been having this problem since porting my payg sim card no to a contract sim card really annoying that you can't change your own no in your contacts app

This seems a pretty useful app but what about dual sim phones? Doesn't play well with my op2.

thank you very much for this mod
greatly appreciate it :good:
worked as it should
my case was 2nd as you mentioned earlier
one suggestion: you should add reboot option after saving the number dialog

Dear,
Thanks for your fantastic app. Perfect!
However I've a dual sim oneplus two. It doesn't work very well.. Is there any way ?

This worked for me using a sim which I transferred my old number to. Was wondering if I still needed the module installed after changing the number?

It should change the number of the first SIM. Unfortunately, dual SIM devices are practically non-existent in the UK, so I can't test anything. However, I think the API does have support for it.

That would require root access, so I removed it before release. I might add it back in though.

Nope, the change is done by the app, but independent of the app. You can remove it once changed

Thanks for you attention!
If you create something for dual-sims, I can test it - because none of my SIMs (both personal and work) have the number on SIM...
I can test if you bring some kind of solution...
Thanks once again!

Thanks for this module ! It shows only the first sim card on dual sim phone is there a way to make it dual sim compatible ?

Superb module that works perfectly.
Having imported my previous phone number to my new phone the sim status constantly showed the wrong phone number - the actual number on the sim, & not the imported 1. Not a major problem i agree, but a definite annoyance, especially when installing new apps. This little beauty's sorted that out though.
Now my sim status, & contact status, now show the number i want it to.... & only the number i want it to.
Thank you very much for taking the time to create this module, its very very very much appreciated.

Is this a permanent change (write to SIM card)?
i.e.: after made the changes, put the SIM card to another phone still work?

In my own idea it's not a permanent change, since it's xposed related thing.

I think it is a permanent written to SIM Card. I disable the module, reboot phone. The number still there.

Anyhow, I write a fake number into it, I do not want Apps easily get my phone number from my SIM card.

Xposed is used to get access to the private methods that write the value, so it is permanent

Dear,
Any news regarding dual sim?

It works on O+2 \o/
Hello,
Just do the operation on each SIM card separately. One card at a time into the machine. Upon restart, the SIM card is updated and the change seems permanent.
It's wonderful ☺

[APP][1.6+] PDroid - the better privacy protection app - will you use it?

Hi,
I have recently developed a privacy protection application for Android.
You can use it to block access for any installed application to the following data separately:
Device ID (IMEI/MEID/ESN)
Subscriber ID (IMSI)
SIM serial (ICCID)
Phone and mailbox number
Incoming call number
Outgoing call number
GPS location
Network location
List of accounts (including your google e-mail address)
Account auth tokens
Contacts
Call logs
Calendar
SMS
MMS
Browser bookmarks and history
System logs
SIM info (operator, country)
Network info (operator, country)
For device ID, phone and mailbox number, SIM serial, subscriber ID and device location it also allows supplying custom or random values.
Unlike others (e.g., Permissions Denied or CM) this does not make applications crash when access to private data is blocked.
The following short video shows some of its functionality.
PDroid does not require ROOT or any Android permission to function, nor does it need any services running in the background. But it does require patching some ROM components, so that it needs to be ported to different devices. Currently it is available for Nexus One, Nexus S, Desire HD (Gingerbread) as well as Magic with CM 6.1 (Froyo).
So I am wondering if I should release it for public use and maybe port to other devices. I will only do so if you would like to use it, since it requires some fine-tuning to be more user-friendly. So please vote if you would like to use PDroid.
I would love to use this app on my galaxy s and tab.
Especially the point to give the apps random or custom information instead of just blocking the access is important.
If you need help testing the app on those mentioned devices just let me know
I hope you get enough positive feedback to port and continue developing this app.
I ll love to have such an app on my Xperia X10 mini pro (cyanogenmod 7)
so basicly it's a LBE replacement? The major disadvantage of that one is being closed-source. Do you plan to open-source yours?
I would like to give this app a shot too with my devices (Nexus S 4G, EVO 3D and Epic Touch 4G). Does not require root, but assume that root is ok? Also seen that you have for Nexus S, but was not sure if that implies to the NS4G as well. Looks promising.
XlAfbk said:

Kind of. The functionality is similar to that of LBE while I tried to account for its disadvantages, such as not being able to disallow access to some data (e.g., system logs, incoming and outgoing call numbers etc.), requiring root or being unreliable since LBE requires its protection service to be running so that malicious apps still can steal data if they are started before LBE after boot.

Yes, basically any device, for which Android can be directly built from AOSP (and this includes Nexus 4G) is supported right now.

That's a nice list. I'd really like a version for my Motorola Defy.
How hard would it be to reuse the code to make it run like LBE, i.e. make an apk that works on every phone without having to patch ROMs for every type of device?
I too would like to use this app, sounds awesome. If you need any beta testers, I volunteer

Impossible, since the actual application logic performing the data access control is based on the Android application framework and not the SDK. Plus, doing it the LBE way requires root and will never be 100% reliable. In other words, there is no way of creating a proper solution without patching the ROM.
I would like to have this for t-mobile US Vibrant since we're getting no Gingerbread love from t-mo or Sammy and I'm all flashed out with nothing else to do.

If I can help in any way, any way at all, I'd be very happy to do so.. I'm running CM7.1.0 on my DesireZ @ 1.2ghz...
Thanks a lot!
Looks great. I'd love to get that on my Thunderbolt (CM7) would there be anyway to block permissions like internet and SD card access, I know Cyanogenmod lets you disable them but you have to reset your phone after a change for them to take effect. Also I don't know if it falls into the scope of what this project is intended for but I've seen people ask about making certain apps work on 3G that only work on wifi or the other way around if you could make an app think it was using one or the other for a connection I think that would be very helpful to some folks.
I'd test this on the t-mo Galaxy S2 if you're willing to do it...

Not in near future. Doing that would require modifying the kernel and that, in turn, would make PDroid much less portable.

[Cancelling Docomo paid apps like NOTTV for the SC-04E]
I just figured out how to cancel NOTTV -
Just so you know - when you sign up for Docomo service they throw anywhere from 5-10 apps that they you have to add in order for the contract to go into effect or something like that.
Anyways, a day or two after you sign your contract, you can cancel all of the apps without any problem and never have to worry about them again. Of course, with the exception of NOTTV. You actually have to go into dMenu (Docomo menu) to start this cancellation process.
Here are the instructions in Japanese if you understand them -
Japanese instructions to turn off/cancel NOTTV
The English instructions are as follows:
First open the above link as that page actually has images that I'm not going to post here that show the procedure.
Just go to this link - on your phone using the stock browser. http://sp.nottv.jp/support/help/#procedure or Click here
Once on that page you will see the following Japanese text 各種手続きについて - it's the 2nd Pink heading down the page.
Near the bottom of that you will see the following Japanese text NOTTVの解約方法について教えてほしい。(How to cancel NOTTV is basically what it says.) then you will see a list of instructions open up and near the bottom of those instructions there will be a link in Japanese text that says 2. NOTTVスマートフォンサイトからこちらから. Click that link on your phone - the link won't work here.
Then when the next page opens on the bottom will be a black button - click it.
Then a page with two black buttons on it will appear. Click the top one that says in Japanese text ドコモケータイ払い.
This will take you to your docomo login page on which you must login your phone number and docomo password.
Then it will take you to the payment page and you will see a transaction number at the top and a big black button that says in Japanese text 解約.
Once you click that you will be cancelled. It will ask you to fill out some survey. If my English steps do not work please have a Japanese friend walk you through the other site's walk-through.
Hope this helps anyone who needed it.
A little more info if you have trouble is here.
[Root guide for Docomo Samsung Galaxy S4 SC-04E]
Everyone's favorite topic.
There are a few members working on this now.
Some have used other methods that have worked but nothing foolproof that always works has been done yet.
If you have the MF1 update and want to root then use the gs4eXT method posted further down into this forum.
It does appear that you can also root using that method with the MF2 update but it is a very limited root. Titanium Backup won't work, you can't flash any other ROMs, maybe other things too. So for me, rooting at this time is not yet an option.
I'm sure this will change soon. Somebody will figure something out.
[ML2 update root guide]
coming soon...
[MF2 update root guide]
I'm on MF2. Root works. Titanium Backup works.
Here are the exact steps that I took:
1. Restore factory image (MF2 in my case)
2. Install Android Terminal Emulator.
3. Install GS4eXT (paid)
4. Opened Android Terminal Emulator. Left it at that.
5. Hit menu, then went to open GS4eXT
6. f**k the device. Yes. Yes.
7. When the process finished, my last message was only "sorry too much. [email protected]:/$"
My phone did NOT display "Please reboot manualy operation."
8. I pressed the power button, and clicked on Restart.
9. System restarted, and then a message popped up in Japanese asking if I wanted to install Superuser. Yes. Open.
10. Back to the Play Store, I then installed Super SU. Open. Super SU will say that there are other programs using root access, and will ask to uninstall those other programs. Hit Cancel.
11. Installed Titanium Backup.
Notice: Titanium was granted root via SU via Superuser. So Superuser is granting Super SU root. And in turn, Super SU granted Titanium root. Sounds weird, but you'll see what I mean.
Test Conducted: Installed a backed up app and data from my last phone. Success! All my saved files were included in the restoration process.
I restarted my phone. It booted as normal.
Opened my restored app. Everything worked as normal.
Opened up Titanium, but had it was looking for root access. I had to open Super SU back up again. After that, I went back to Titanium, and root access was granted once again.
After I uninstall all my bloatware, I'm going to try updating the phone and see if it keeps root (or see if I can root again after the update).
Thanks a million!

Flashed the CM 4.4.1 and having no problems...cam and video working fine...one thing i found out is to be on the super safe side be sure to flash in order...
1. be rooted on either a rooted stock or another aosp rom
2. ensure you have the cwm 6.0.4.5 flashed as your recovery....its easy, just flash the tar via Odin
3. download and copy the 4.3 slimbean, CM11 and/or AOSP 4.4.2 to and sd card and place in your phone...just do this before you boot into recovery.
4. i advise downloading the gapps provided by pa and copy that you your sc card too....you can choose from either the full, core or bare minimal gapps...plus you can flash the cam separate too with photosphere... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942 theres the link
5.boot into recovery, do a full wipe
6. install 4.3 Slim Bean
7. wipe again... then install either CM11 or AOSP, then flash the gapp package
8. wipe cache, and davilk then reboot
9. let sit for 10 minutes reboot
i had flashed the 4.4.2 but ran into reboot problems...probably because i jumped ahead and didnt flash in order....this is just a rough guide....
Another ROM
SeeYou has released a stable 4.4.2 CM 11.0 ROM. I have flashed it and have experienced no issues.

SC-04E has only Felica secure element internally, but is being supplied with an NFC-A secure element on the (pink) SIM card.
This is sneaky shibari lock-in on Docomo's part - it forces you to keep your Docomo SIM in when overseas if you want to do contactless payment on the Mastercard NFC-A terminals. Well played Docomo, well played...
I'm still on the wall on whether or not to get it, feels uncomfortable in my hands (too wide) and the SO-04E Xperia A (which will be sold elsewhere as the ZR) feels so much better.

Ok, picked it up this morning. :good:
Very nice, its a touch bigger but curved enough to not feel too big.
Will set it up tonight. Cool! Hopefully we get a root soon. Yeah I switched to the 3gb data plan a while back since I barely even use 1 gb a month. Wish they had smaller plans ,but owell.
Anyone tried the unlock method from here (through service menu)? Success or fail?
So I picked mine up today. The amount of bloat on the thing annoys me quite a bit. I can't wait for the bootloader to be cracked wide open so I can flash to stock.
I have a simple use question though that I'm a little confused on. I've got Mobile Suica installed now and I've never used it before, since my last phone was a S2. Do I have to have an app running when I touch it to the readers? Does the Reader/Writer, P2P setting need to be turned on to use it?

DoCoMo Unlimited Plan not Unlimited [Fix]
OK I got my phone today, now what?
I hate the new data plans, just setting up my phone used 500mb in data alone today.
So I found a solution that works without rooting the phone to help us former "unlimited-plan" users still think we are on an unlimited plan.
It's super easy but, unfortunately, not free. Most of the Android users I know already know about this app.
Basically, I set it to automatically turn on the WiFi and connect to your home network without using GPS. And also when you leave home it shuts WiFi off and puts you back on data.
One you learn how to use it for one location, you'll start doing it for every location you go to that has a free WiFi connection (i.e. - Starbucks, etc.)
If anyone gets the app or already has it, let me know and I'll post further instructions

But well worth the $2.99.

CF autoroot for i9505 works, i just did it, now to remove this bloat

looks like you will lose NFC and stock recoveryfunctions though. SU wont update the binary but apps requiring root access like TiBu read as rooted. will update with more info after more playing if i find out anything else.
edit: Well seems more not rooted than rooted. while some apps function many do not or only work partially. guess ill wait around for the stock image and restore unless somone finds something out before then

But well worth the $2.99.

Another good alternative is to use NFC tags to trigger things like that.
anyone pull a stock image of the ROM yet?
@SQ3.0dotJP the flashing process went just fine but when I go into try to use SU and update the binary, it fails to update and Root checker shows my device is not rooted....were you able to get yours fully rooted?....we should send a message in the Auto-Root form to try and be sure we get officially supported....
Can the O.P. start modifying this thread to reflect to create a rooting/rom flashing guideline as was done with the SC-06D on this page .... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41770156#post41770156
Thanks!

i just tried to update the binary and got the same error, weird because TB works and other apps requiring root..so far. did you mail the dev for CF, looks like a partial root if anything. but I havent lost any functionality aside from the normal osaifu and 1seg like with the GS3. i wont attempt a recovery install until the stock image gets posted on sammobile
Are you asking for a sub forum thread in here about rooting?

I chose that same plan for now but when I set the phone up yesterday, I used 20 percent of that limit in one day. Lol.

Ok, picked it up this morning. :good:
Very nice, its a touch bigger but curved enough to not feel too big.
Will set it up tonight. Pulled the SIM out and stuck it back in the S2 for now (used a 90YEN Sim Card adapter to make it fit) good to know that even after changing to the contract to use the Xi (LTE) network it still works fine in the S2 - Though now I have a 3GB monthly limit on data... (chose the 3GB lite plan for now)

[APP][2.3+][Update 17/09/13][Free/Pro]Free Tethering Unlocker

Free Tethering Unlocker
Unlock your tethering possibilities!
With this simple app you can, finally, use your Mobile Data plan, to surf with your notebook or any device you want, without having to pay any extra to your network operator!
As you can see here, since Android 4.1.2, Google introduced a new tethering function to "mark" tethering packets, so the operator can bill the user for that traffic separately from the traffic generated locally by the phone. May be useful even with Android 2.3+, when tethering problems occurs.
This app makes a simple trick to the routing table, to permit tethering traffic to proceed to the mobile network without any modification :victory:
PLUS, on the premium version, there is an on boot unlock function that will patch the routing table at every reboot, automatically. This way you can forget about the existence of this app and freely enable tethering when you need.
Features:
Automatic interfaces detection
Boot time patching (Premium only)
Wi-Fi and USB tethering mode supported
Tested operators:
The application works properly on all Android devices 2.1 +, but was tested on the following devices:
Vodafone IT
Changelog:
-----1.0.8------
Fixed interface detection bug, multiple interfaces support (LTE Galaxy S4)
New configurations added: T-Mobile
Translations fixed.
Known Issues:
If you use "superuser" on some ROMs you cannot get root privileges. To solve this, download "SuperSU".
Very Important:
In the app menu, there is a link to report your current operator configuration, this way if your actual configuration is not supported (the application wont work) I can see what is happening and can fix the app for your configuration.
This help me a lot, so, please, do it if the app don't work for you. Thanks.
Download:
Download the application from the market here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.kernelxp.freetether
Screenshots :
Remember, if you like this application, rate and review it! Thanks!
Let me know which phone and which operator you use, to complete the compatibility list, thanks.

Thank you sir..
Noob Attack!
Uhm, sir, noob question from a noob person...
Does this app ,of yours, works like those WiFi Tethering apps like Barnacle WiFi / OpenGarden...?
And if it so, how does this differ from those apps?
And if it isn't so, does my phone required to have WiFi Tethering and Hotspot support to use this?
This app only patches original mobile WiFi hotspot (tethering) Android application.
This way you can use what tethering application included in Android distribution, there is no need of external applications like opengarden.
BTW I think, but not assure, that my app will unlock third party tethering application too, so you can use whatever tethering application you want and test if with my patch the tethering starts working.
If you do that, please, report the result here, so I can add compatibility.
Thanks.

This is exactly what we need thanks for your contribution.
Brilliant!
Does it also spoofs my mac address?
Enviado desde mi MB860 usando Tapatalk 2
Android stock mobile WiFi hotspot uses NAT, so...yes, your operator sees only your phone's MAC address.

By the way, can you guys who successfully use this app tell me which is your phone model and your operator, to compile a compatibility list, for all users?
Thanks!
Im using SGH-T999. By the way how do we know if the app is actually working?

This is simple, you have only to unlock tethering with this app, then try to surf with your PC, through the mobile WiFi network created by the phone. If you can see something and you have not paid anything for that....it works.
I suggest to call your operator and ask for disabling the tethering profile. This way (the one I've done) if you can surf the web from your PC, you're sure not to pay. In case the app is not working gor you, and you're using the standard tethering APN (and your operator will charge for that), the connection will be interrupted and you will be not charged for anything.
Let me know, bye!
BTW, today I'll publish an update with new configuration. Stay tuned!

Nexus6, VZW (unlimited plan), does not work. Checks for subscription, then says "Your order could not be processed", and fails.
*Edit:
Developer corrected the issues, this appears to be working on N6 in lastest version!
THANK YOU!!!

Worked first time!
PHONE: INFOCUS M512 (Foxconn)
OS: 4.4.2 (root), MIUI
OPERATOR: FIDO/ROGERS (Canada)
4G/LTE
I had NO working tether on this phone since purchase 2 weeks ago (tether was working on retired Apple 3GS - same 1 GB data plan). I probably could have gotten it working on the new Android with a call to FIDO tech support, but I remember when i bought the new SIM card, the sales guy at the mall kiosk warned me that FIDO calculates their tethering data a "little differently" than phone data, and that I might notice higher-than-expected usage totals on my statement...
I think not.
Hello!!
Nice to see that you like my work, as soon as possible I want to create a compatibility document, to be published here and in Google Play Store, so you guys can directly know whether this hack will work for you or not.
I'm currently working on an update but my job does not leave me much time so...might take a while to be ready, I'm sorry.
Bye and merry Christmas!

Anything new with this app?
Hi!
I'm currently working on a brand new application, with Material Design graphics.
Also the engine is updated, hopefully supporting more unlocking techniques.
Unfortunately my job does not help me in this; I've very small amount of time to write this app, therefore I cannot give you an estimation about when I'll be able to release it. Sorry.
Regards,
Marco.

Hi Marco & thanks for your app.
I've had it on my phone for a while, and it has been working fine, however due to the ever increasing load on my ram & cpu from all the apps & google service updates, I have had to prevent a bunch of system processes & apps from running.
This has stopped your app from working.
Can you please list the system apps/processes that your tether unlocker app needs access to or need to be running so I can enable just the necessary ones thanks?

Faking a phone number in Android x86/RemixOS...Is it possible?

I'm wondering if this is possible. Some apps want you to have a phone number setup in order to register. Is there a way to fake a phone number in either version of Android so an app thinks it is a real number?

Either:
-use a fake number
-use xprivacy
-use a Skype number
-buy a dual sim phone and get another number

The issue is, say with Pulse Messenger, it doesnt see that my install has a phone number at all, so I cannot register for it.
Thing is, you need be able to receive text messages on this fake number so it can't be fake at all. That would defeat the entire purpose of number verification (making sure you actually own it to prevent abuse). There could still be a way but I have a feeling that the way to obtain it - if at all possible - is not something that should be discussed on XDA.
May I ask why you have a problem sharing your real number with these apps? If it's about privacy implications, you have much more to worry about when installing these type of apps

New OP7Pro to replace my Pixel2XL: Questions & seeking advice/tips on process

It's been a while since I rooted an Android device. And I've never rooted a phone. So, questions. I'd like to do everything possible to have the phone ready before contacting Verizon to get on their network. I'm guessing my steps should be:
a) root
b) TWRP
c) Magisk
d) latest Oxygen
e) all Play Store updates
f) move SIM (there are two slots?? which one??)
g) work w/Verizon to get voice & messaging working
h) use OP's app to migrate apps & data from Pixel2XL
i) figure out a VOWIFI and 3g calling option
I've found the great thread on steps a) - d) and assume all will be straightforward and easy. All of the Google Play Store updates will be easy, I've done all of that already just to test a favorite game (a primary reason I wanted to upgrade the phone to begin with).
I understand there are two SIM slots. Does it matter which I put the SIM in from my P2XL? Am I better off going to the Verizon store and having them put a new SIM in? If I remove the SIM from the P2XL can it still perform emergency calls?
Working with Verizon seems the trickiest part. I know I want to make certain it's activated for CDMA-less (found a great thread here on this, too). Are there any other things I need to request or make sure I test before assuming I'm good to go with Verizon? I won't have any issues because the phone is rooted, will I?
Is the right time to use the OnePlus app to migrate apps and data after successful Verizon activation? I'm not opposed to installing all (there are a LOT) of my apps one by one if it's going to work better and/or has some benefit.
I understand voice won't work over 3g (when LTE's not avialable). Is that correct? And I'm thinking this is related to VOWIFI? I'm sorry if I'm conflating two issues. But a workaround, at least for the latter, has been mentioned here that uses Google Hangouts and some Google app that acts like a phone, but it requires a number? Can someone shine some more light on this for me?
Otherwise, this is my current impression of what needs to be done. Please let me know if you agree, disagree, have suggestions, etc.! Thank you!
... anyone?
Based on your first sentence, you should really, really do some research before attempting any modifications at all.

Are you saying that the guides here aren't adequate? I've had great success with Android tablets in the past following what's here. Perhaps you could be a bit less vague?
