Android System high battery drain... Anyone else experiencing this? - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Android system sits at a pretty steady 20% battery usage on my device. Is anyone else experiencing high drain from android system?

In a french forum a lot of guys have the same problem and they have all version not only 152...

I had that problem till I cleaned the storage memory, wiped dalvik cache and cache. Problem went away for me

Nice for you, but i have the same problem again and alway the problem.. So now how many time you have in screen on ? And now how many is your android system % ?

Any clue how to wipe cache without recovery/root? Since I haven't gotten recovery to work yet...

No idea. I think those are only root level systems but I could be wrong

Wipe the cache with stock recovery. Turn off the phone then press and hold volume up and power. The phone boot into stock recovery and there u can wipe cache

Nice. I'll post my results.

Ok thanks. Nobody tel me how many ansroid system take about the battery, more than 20% ?

First my battery drain was very very good with .....152.
There was no Android System on top until I killed the Cache partition. That was a fault in my opinion.
Android System has 34% with a lot of mAh battery drain
Sorry for my bad english

u cant judge by SOT alone, always depends what ur exact usage pattern is. if ure gaming the whole time while on mobile network then of course ull get less SOT than when on wifi and just browsing or looking at pictures
updated to B156 today, rooted, decrypted boot image, debloated system partition
android system is on top at 36%, but then again, im just at 96% battery so still a looong way to go until i can give judgement on this firmware

yes, same here... on B103 and now on B152 :/

11,25% Android system on 152

30% for me.. and 7h08 screen on. And you guys ?

now on B156 chinese battery drain seems to be higher than before on B133. im getting around 7.5h SOT as opposed to 9-12h SOT before. in combination with random black screen, touchscreen input errors, lags and issues with app autostart notifications i cannot recommend this firmware at all... i think im going back to B133 followed by update to B152 international firmware...

I think i have this problem since i got the phone. For the first days with phone i didnt realise this is a problem. But after i checked about it on XDA, i saw there are people who have the same problem.Anyway when i got the phone it was on C636B103 (i had the exact draining problems on B103) then i update it to B180 with dload method and made a factory reset, wiped cache with stock recovery and Android System drainage was like %20-%40 for the first day with B180.And day by day it started increasing and i really dont know WHY or HOW.
Usually i'm a normal user, don't push hard hardware, don't play games for hours, don't surf on net or chat for hours etc. just using normal. With this usage i got max 4.32h SOT in 49 hours.
Every single night i got around %10-%15 battery drain in 9 hours with No Wifi, No Mobile Data, just Sycn is ON.
Also yesterday night i started to use GSam Battery Monitor and System Monitor Apps.As Gsam shows i have 12h SOT (Since Last Full Charge – Unpluged at %100 battery at 12.04.2016 on 01.00 AM).How this can be possible ? lol. When i choose Since Last Unplugged it shows 1,23h SOT.
Guys i’m really really confused about that battery problem.I don’t know what is the solution or there is a solution with stock roms but i don’t want to ROOT and flash a rom yet, maybe in future but not yet. Please someone help me about this.
Here are the Options i setted and screenshots;
• Using with - Smart Power Plan
• Keep Wifi on when sleeping - Always (I tried Never option, its doesn't matter) + I'm using wifi max 1 hour in a day
• Mobile data always on - ON
• Stock Mail App and Gmail using with PUSH option
• Brightness – AUTO
• Sycn – On 7/24
Edit: GPS is always OFF and google apps dont use it and i don't use SD Card

On B180 i have 62% android system..

guys, u are aware that the percentage of android system depends on your usage, right? if u use a lot of powerhungry apps, i.e. gps and games, then android system will have a way lower percentage of battery drain. if you, however, dont use ur phone at all or only very lightly, android system % will increase...
so theres really no point in saying "this firmware has x% android system whereas that firmware only has y%"[emoji14]
Sent from my Huawei Mate 8 NXT-AL10 using Tapatalk

@jbmc83, you are totaly right. But i use a lot my phone screen (call, internet, games). With my other phone i am near 40% battery use by the screen. On the Mate 8, screen is 10% and android system is 62%. That doesnt seems good.
And i experience freeze/crash during game.

Any fix for stock gingerbread battery problem (75% use overnight when phone not used)

Got the gingerbread update yesterday and unplugged my fully charged phone and went to bed. In the morning, about seven hours of no phone use later, went to use it and battery said it was at just 25% and phone idle / android os had used 384% of battery and Tapatalk (which I used for just 1 minute before logging on here) used 43 %.
This is on stock gingerbread (European Open). Anyone found a way to sort this?
Dave
Drop the brightness to zero for overnight. See if that works.
Cheers.

I can try but its using battery at rate of about five percent every few minutes if actually use it so has to be plugged in. Maybe the update somehow screwed battery?

My solution for this momend disable gprs/3g data for extra long battery life.
Djee.
Done that though leaves me with a pretty redundant phone then
Fully charged calibrated battery with app off market and twenty eight minutes later down to thirty percent battery left. Its getting worse, I have a mobile phone thsts now no longer mobile and really hope someone has a solution as need my phone working properly. Bloody lg are not in my good books lol

Check so you don't have the Android OS bugg.
Check that your phone is able to go in to deep sleep. Two BIG drainers for me was beautiful widgets and WidgetLocker.
Toggle and weather drained alot to.
Google maps is a classic battery drainer.
Got rid of those and my battery last well throughout the day and night. Lovely
-----If it ain't working, try something else. ------
Got no widgets etc running. How do I put phone in sleep?
At moment with no widgets and no use my phone is still pretty much useless unless as now it's plugged in. I can't understand how no one else seems to have same issue as only started on fresh install of gb.
Maybe I will have to risk non stock rom but hope not.

WidgetLocker is a big battery drainer? thanks for the hint!
one really big battery drainer for me was the newest android market so i went back to an older version.. with the new market my battery drain was 10%/h and with an old market 5%/h..
i also deleted almost every ls system app except the weather widget
I think the update itself is bugged as it often tells me phone has been off battery for only seconds and says 285% of battery has been used.

On the latest V10k Froyo firmware my battery usage was pretty good. I flashed the new V21a GB firmware about a week ago and suddenly my usage went way up in idle. In about 10 hours I lost 30% or so. Worked with it for a couple of days and even when I used the phone the usage was a lot worse than with Froyo so I decided to do a factory reset. I backed up everything with Titanium, did the power+vol down trick and resetted the phone completely. Now my usage is even better than with V10k, I'm only losing 5% each night. My phone was fully charged about 40 hours ago and I still have 66% left. In those 40 hours I took some 3D photo's and viewed them in the 3D Gallery, checked my email twice, made 3 calls and sent and received 7 whatsapp messages.
The battery app is busted in this firmware, I think everyone on GB has the same problem. My wifi used 1148% yesterday and it told me I unplugged the phone 37 seconds ago while I was nowhere near a powersource for hours.
The problem is I have reset to factory settings and still have the problem.
I have calibrated the battery and also switched off phone to fully charge and am at a loss what to do but tomorrow I may resort to another reset. Thanks
EDIT : I have noticed that all apps I kill from settings menu warn they will restart immediately. Maybe that's a clue as to a cause?
Sent from my LG-P920 using Tapatalk
I'm having the same problem. Updated yesterday, battery was 100% last night, woke up and battery was down to less than 40%.
It is also running ghost apps, by that I mean that it's running apps I haven't opened or used. Everytime I go into running apps, there is at least 6 listed. It is eating up my ram, I'm at about 40mb at best, stop all apps and a few minutes later its the same thing.
Any ideas?
P.S: Hello BTW, I'm a noob but I've been floating around for a while now
I have managed to improve battery life so it lost zero percent overnight and about twenty percent playing a game for an hour.
I downloaded battery calibrate app from market and charged to full then ran the app, unplugged and used phone til it switched off. Left it off while charging and when switched on seems much better though still says I have been on battery for just seconds.
Am testing the battery life now but is much better so far. To stop ghost apps get gemini app manager from market and use it to stop them auto running. Some apps can only be stopped if you're a root user.

When I do the power+ vol down trick so that I can do a hard reset after the phone has wiped the data and cache I am presented with a menu of other options like wipe nv dynamic partition and wipe cache partition and package recovery. Do I need to select all these other options to fully reset the phone or is it dangerous to select some of them?

In my case I didn't need to select any other option. I just factory resetted, chose reboot in the menu and when the phone booted the standard "welcome to your phone" steps were presented. Then I set all the options I'm used to (my wifi connection, haptic feedback, sound off when typing, brightness about 60% and auto brightness turned off etc.) and then charged the phone to 100%.
I still haven't plugged in my phone since yesterday so it's been about 66 hours since it was fully charged and I still have 41% left. The usage is way more solid too. On Froyo an app could take 5% battery in 20 minutes and then drain the battery 20% in the next 10 minutes. That hasn't happened at all with GB. Too bad the battery stats are screwed.
I really love Gingerbread
@mistermentality: Good news you found a way to deal with your problem!! Let's hope you fixed it permanently.
U can start freezing all the apps with paid titanium backup. It really worth to buy.
I freezed all the com.lge.xxx
Exclude the com.lge.hiddenmenu. u wont be able to open settings if u do so.
And i freezed all the apps that i dont use. Ex : widgets, etc.
It improve my battery life 50%. Im not talking about hours, but in percentage its really double my battery life compare to fresh install official gb V21a.
Have a try and good luck

Well I can confirm that so far battery life seems much improved, as for backing up apps in paid titanium you can do the same in free gemini app manager. I tried and found it defaults to internal sd but emailed devs and they had fix ready within a day so it can save on optimus external card so its a good alternative to titanium

Android System huge battery drain

Does anyone else have the issue where android system is consuming 35+% of the battery? Looking at the stats it seems like one of the bundled services is keeping the radio on for 14/18hrs its been on.
Have the same isssue
Yeah, I'm having this issue too. Android System is consuming HUGE amounts of battery for me.
Thought I was the only one but glad that's not true! Still got good battery stats with the android system drain nonetheless.
Charged mine to full last night right before hitting the sack.
Woke up 7½ hours later and it had consumed 33% of the battery just sitting doing nothing bar getting email & polling (presumably) for Facebook updates.
And that was with Power Saving enabled. Bit disappointing, hoping when I disable auto-sync that it'll kill the drain.
There's lots of services running under Android Systems disable the ones u don't use, I have disabled some got better battery life, still testing some others...
The hardware on the phone is great, but touchwhiz drives me up the wall. I'll be happy if and when we get anything AOSP based, CM being the holy grail. Nice to know I'm not the only one getting this battery drain. I've disabled pretty much everything that's able to be disabled, as all I use is google services.
Same problem here.... Huge Android System battery drains.
I've played around with several things, and as of yet I haven't gotten it to stop other than turning off WiFi. Anyone found a fix?
Mine's more a combo of Android System and Google Services... both take up a majority of my usage... Services typically being a bit more.
Why are there two android systems? wtf...
Is there any way to reduce cell standby?

Same sh*t here. Went to bed last night fully charged, and 7-8 hours later, wake up with 23% of my battery gone.
I'm starting to wonder if moving away from the Nexus line was a mistake. I started running again and the N6 was just too big to lug along with me, on arm or in a waste band, so I decided to try Samsung.
Just got my S6 and I noticed this right away. Last charge I had 2:42 of SOT and "Android Systems" used 47% of the battery. I was just watching Netflix and YouTube mostly. My overnight drain is also quite high, about 1% every 30-40 minutes of standby.
Is that normal for most S6 owners?
To all:
Turn off VoLTE, turn off WiFi calling, install CPU Spy, ensure your phone is going into deep sleep. If it isn't, flash the stock recovery with Flashify, wipe the cache with it, then flash TWRP back with Flashify.
Post your results.

This is for everyone. If you haven't flash TWRP, then simply wipe the cache with stock recovery.
I just assumed most people would have TWRP flashed, my bad.
I am guessing that that this is an Android problem as the Galaxy S6 Edge has the same problem with battery drains.

I'm not rooted and I don't plan on doing so. I'm not sure of any other options. I unplugged it last night an let it sleep. Android system used about 14% of the battery. And I lost 20% charge. Cpu run time was 38 minutes too. and I never even woke it up post unplugging it.
I believe this Battery Drain Issue is a Lollipop issue. Was haing it with my One Plus One, I fixed it by going into privacy Guard, and going to Google Play Services and not allowing it to stay awake, and start by itself.
Ill find the actual thread and post it, same issues happening with a lot of phones using lollipop
Battery drain on a new device = bad flash (very common on android devices, first run)
1 wipe the devices and start it again from factory problem should go away. (at least the excessive drain anyway)
2 Ensure you have updated the Samsung Services app (this was responsible for most if not all battery drain issues if you reset your device)
3. Turn the bloody Screen brightness down and turn off Adaptive display (way way way too much battery drain using them)
4. LTE off and Cell data off if you on wifi, your wasting battery power communicating with cell sites you arnt using, the weaker the signal the more power you will drain for no benefit
6. GPS / Loc data off unless you need it even then wifi / AGPS is usually more than accurate, remember GPS + poor sky visibility = more power used to get a loc.
5 NEVER measure battery life for the first 24 hours way too much stuff syncing and updating to measure with any accuracy.
I get a solid 2 days out of the S6 with mixed use and a screen on time of 2:30 could get that upto 3 hours but i have a hearthstone addiction
As mentioned above, I highly recommend wiping the cache, even when not rooted.
Also, worst comes to worse, i'd completely redo the phone from scratch via the Smart Switch software samsung provide.

[HELP] H60-L04 Battery drain (20h in stand-by mode)

Hi all,
I am facing some battery issues for a month now. It dropped suddenly from 3 days autonomy to 20 hours and can't finf the reason.
Tests I did
0) Identify apps consuming battery (google service and so on...). Did many changes but at the end same problem.
1) Update from B521 to B860 (OTA)
From now on, all tests are donr without any additionnal applications
2) Wipe cache + wipe data
3) Downgrade to B521 (first B800 then B521)
4) Test in stand-by mode. Still having the issue! This is wierd to me. Battery drains exactly the same with phone in stand-by mode or not!
5) Test with different SIM cards
6) Test forcing 3G/2G (no 4G). A bit better (about 1 day without using the phone)
8) Test without SIM nor google account connected... same issue
Any ideas?

Thank you for your suggestion.
I'm currently running "Spectrum" theme. Which I guess is the default one as I haven't change anything since reinstall.
I'm facing battery problems since I'm running Marshmallow...
In battery settings it shows that the display is draining battery the most. There's no specific app shown.
If I get 2 and a half hours of screen on time I can be happy...
Sorry for not having an answer but I'm feeling with you.
Just installed "Better Battery Stats" and "Wakelocks detector lite" even if I am not rooted (followed tutorials for non rooted devices).
Hope I get more info tgis way.
I'll post results for experts analysis
Just uploaded better battery stats dump after first full discharge (see 1rst post)
If someone can have look, as I can't see anything strange...
I guess it is the update, it seems it's not fully optimized yet.

Hello, I hope I can help with this information. i've been all day with airplane mode and just Wi-Fi on and with 3h 36m of screen on time. The second picture shows how the system is half of the time awake and the other half in deep sleep. I always need to charge this phone every night, because when I'm at home I'm almost always below 20% of the battery. I'm at the latest version B860, but I've have had this battery life since I bought this phone like three months ago.

Hello Vicioxis,
In my case I used to have at least 2 days without needed to charge the device. It changed suddenly to 20h max without change the way I use the phone.
Actuality, it doesn't seems to change anything wether I'm using the phone or not...
I added some thumbmails and a new BBS dump file in case somebody sees something wrong:crying:
As you can see, the device is mostly in deep sleep but I have a lot of wakelocks!
Has anyone here installed Kangvip ROM or the stock or any other? Also I feel the smartphone almost always warm at the back-right. Is this normal? Should I try to install any custom ROM to see if this improves?

Battery dropped 40% in Nougat for Honor 8

Upgraded from EMUI 4 (MM) to EMUI 5 (Nougat) a few days ago.
My SoT has dropped from about 6.5 hours to 4 hours, but mostly because the phone seems to never go into deep sleep.
I used to have a standby drain of maybe 1% per hour. Now it's around 4-5%!
I have the same apps exempt from screen-off-close: Slack, Google Voice, Nine (for work email), Netguard (for ad blocking). Android OS and Android System are by far and away the highest battery users regardless of whether I've been browsing or if it's on standby.
Any ideas?

Same here. On L04 B360 Nougat update, and Android OS and Android System are pretty much always the top 2 battery consumers....
Same here. Down from 25 hours to 16 hours. Same apps.
I am pretty sure that so called Nougat b360 update, pushed from Huawei to our devices is some kind Beta. I have notification bar flickering when unlock the phone, when uninstall an app through Settings- Apps the app icon still persist in home screen, after restart of the phone if i push Settings menu i have black screen for couple of seconds and the device is freezing, the apps continue to work after screen lock, although i forbid them to work, battery life was impressive for the first two days but then bang... No more than 4- 4.5h SOT from 100% to 5% of battery with same usage of the phone... Factory reset couple of times, same story.
The most strange thing is that i had the same problems with my ex Huawei P9 running on so called official Nougat.
The upgrade to EMUI5 is a mess. The battery was completely drained overnight although the phone was turned off (powered down). It was at 90% when I turned it off at midnight, and totally dead at 8:00 AM.
There are numerous other problems with the upgrade.
I chatted with Huawie live support, and they claim that Huawie does not push upgrades, and that the upgrade came from Android not from them.
I am not convinced. The upgrade had Huawie written all over it.
You can roll back to Android 6. The Huawie folks have a file on their official support site to download and roll back.
One thing I forgot to mention.
Nougat on Honor 8's battery drain rate matches Nougat's battery drain rate on my old Nexus 6p... the reason I sold it for the Honor 8.
Sigh. Maybe it's something in 7.0's Doze.
I think the best option here is to peroform a factory reset. This will probably help.
Since I turned on "battery save" mode in battery settings two days ago, 6h sot is come back.
Like I read in another thread, seems to be the old "intelligent profile" in MM. Deactivated it's like be always in "performance profile". This and save data profile in background are working well in my device.
Try guys and tell us.

Mabey you can do a rollback. After that a factory reset and after that update again.
You can roll back to Huawie Android 6.

Today is even worse than before.
32 minutes SOT so far. Battery at 81%.
Phone Idle at 12%, Cell Standby at 5%, Chrome at 19%, Android System at 19%, Android OS at 16%.
Going to roll back to MM. This is even worse than my old 6P.

Hi, there is only one update.app file in the downloaded rar file. Should I have to use the same update file for both stages -- intermediate and 6.0 -- described in the instruction file?
Well... I ended the day with 3h 17m SoT doing just browsing and texting, with 2% battery left.
Downloading rollback now...

Question Rog Phone 5 Battery Drain

So I've been using the Rog 5 for a week or so. I've noticed that ANDROID SYSTEM has a massive battery drain.
No matter which apps I use, wether it's YouTube, Chrome, WhatsApp or any gaming app, Android System always had a massive battery drain. This can't be normal can it?
I installed Better Battery Stats & Gsam Battery Monitor and found that Android System has got many Wakelocks too. I've attached screenshots for this, if anyone could help resolve these Wakelocks that would be amazing. Also if anyone could help to lower the Android System battery drain please.
On the better battery stats you will notice over 500 Wakelocks in 9 Hours ! Over 3 days that number is over 2000 Wakelocks
On my first full charge i have 6hrs screen on time and 40% left still cycling the battery for maximum performance. It would be interesting to see what apps can be disabled safely and any other battery saving tips people have here.

Although that's decent battery life, it CAN and SHOULD be better. I'm using greenify too btw
Not many with the phone yet lol lets wait and see i got almost 9hrs screen on time first charge.
I tested by watching youtube videos with bluetooth connected sometimes and this was my screen on time
i had 8.30h of screen time with the huawei p30 pro 4200mah battery, a little disappointing for a 6000mah battery

Only 8 hours???? I got 11 hours with mixed usage, mainly on WiFi, over 2 days, with 9% left. No Bluetooth usage tho. Your battery is concerning

That's a good result for the p30. I get around 10 hours on my p40 pro plus. The rog 5 has issues

Dont know whether this is happening only for me. I also tried manual battery calibration by draining the battery and charging till 100 after that i even deleted batterystats.bin file manually. Still 8 or 9 hours max.
Should i change to any other modes in specific? Like i am currently in dynamic mode. Should i tweak into advanced and reduce anything? Or you guys are having a sot of 11 hours in dynamic mode only?

Where's this battery.bin file ? From YouTube you should get way more SOT. Look on gsmarena, YouTube test is north of 13 hours
I use dynamic, auto Refresh rate, GPS, Bluetooth, auto brightness all OFF unless I need them. I use durable mode from 20%
Battery stats.bin file will be in root/system folder.

How do I access the root folder?
Also in location settings make sure you have WiFi scannibg off (it will say 'search for WiFi networks, even when WiFi is turned off') you'll find that in location menu. And if you go to developer options you'll come across something which says "Mobile data always active" turn that off too as it wastes battery for no reason.
Last but not least, go to Zentalk forum, Google it, it's Asus help forum and create a thread on there explaining you have high battery drain from Android System. They will fix it if we all report it
I have unlocked bootloader and rooted my my phone. With Root explorer or any other explorer with root permission you can access the folder.
I will disable that mobile data in developer options.
Thank you
I fully charged to 100% left overnight unplugged network standby took 2.5% and Android system was 0.2% and lost all together a total of 3% battery overnight. I think it needs to sleep better than that.
I updated to latest ww global firmware but mine is tincent version if i factory reset will it still stay on ww firmware? i think i need to do a reset. Also how do you do a hard reset via recovery on this is it safe?

It should lose 0% overnight. Android system is the culprit. No you won't lose WW after hard reset and regarding factory reset, I did it through settings as don't know how to enter recovery
Well unless someone reports it they wont fix it so best people report in as stated above ASAP.

I've already done it. I urge everyone else here too, go to Zentalk and create a thread about rog 5 battery drain and any other tissues you might have. I've mentioned battery life, volte not working and I've asked for a option for 90hz refresh rate.
