Hi. Any help that can be offered with my G Box Q would be greatfully recieved. I seem to be hitting numerous brick walls when search online.
I have a couple of issues with what appears to be nice machine. I've upgraded from a generic android box. I'd like to achieve some of the functionality of that device.
I do not like the revised launcher on the gbox q, so have tried several launchers. The most likely candidate looks like Nova. Thing is, on whatever launcher I use, I am unable to switch between apps, turn the box off from the desktop, or close apps as easily as on the old device. That device achieved ALL these options by the use of the 'pull up' soft keys at the bottom of the screen.
So I want to install these soft keys. There appear to be many apps out there that promise this, but they seem to require a rooted g box q. I CAN FIND NO DETAILS ON HOW TO ROOT THE G-BOX Q, NO OTHER OPTION FOR INSTALLING THE SOFTKEYS OR INDEED ANY OTHER METHOD OF ACHIEVING FUNCTIONALITY THAT I HAVE DESCRIBE.
Help please?

Noobie!!
Rooted my Nook Tablet. Think I did everything correct...although I am thinking maybe not. Is it possible for it to work but have some sort of bug?
Here is what I mean: I'm new to the android market...but why am I not seeing apps like facebook and angry birds. My wife has an android phone and she has all of that. Also...and here is the biggie....when I turn on my Nook...I go to the ADW Launcher screen where my apps are, however, I don't think my "N" button is doing the right thing. If I press it once, my actual Nook menu pops up (like it would out of the box before I rooted it) and if I press it a second time, it brings me back to the B&N main screen that was there before I rooted it and I then can't go back to the Android screen.
Anyone have any thoughts? I am really frustrated at this point!
Thanks
Bob

well its not clear what you did,did you follow all the guidelines, like installing drivers etc .Im reasonably tech savvy but even i found it a little bit challenging, esp installing windows drivers. start again and follow the instructions carefully..one last thing double click the n button, that would bring up any launcher you have installed rather than clicking it twice. with a little patience and effort youll get it sorted out .you dont have a bug...rooting the nook tablet is a multistage process, including opening up hidden settings, usb debugging, windows drivers etc. and i think having firmware 1.40 good luck its a supurb tablet

I'm a noob too, but I've been reading this site for the past 24 hours trying to fix-up my Nook Tablet. As for Android Market, even though you rooted your NT the Market still recognizes your device as a NT and won't let you download apps that apparently won't work with the default Nook launcher. If you do some searching sometimes you can find a .APK file you can download using your browser and then install the package for an app you like. Just be careful about where you download from to avoid any malware.
As for your "n" button, it sounds like Homecatcher isn't setup right. Uninstall Homecatcher and reinstall it to see if you can get it to work. Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356206
Good luck.
Hi -
I'm not sure what functionality you're seeking. This is what I did with my year old NC: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448186
It's fabulous. No brainer, goof-proof (if you follow the well written instructions down the line). One issue I have is trying to get the remaining space on the SD card I used to show and therefore allow content. But that's not the mod's fault. I have another post pending an answer to that on the Q&A forum here.
I can recommend this set of dual boot mods to you without reservation. For me, it was almost "too easy"...

My G Flex 2 is rooted and I have uninstalled or frozen all of the AT&T and quite a few of the LG apps that were present on the phone. I followed a 'safe to freeze' list I found online and the phone is running perfectly, battery life is stellar.
I did notice though that I can no longer automatically answer the phone by bringing it up to my ear. I checked the Gestures section and found some missing options (see screenshot). What could cause this? Did I disable something I shouldn't have?
I've tried to find an 'Answer Me' APK online so I can simply reinstall this feature but was unsuccessful. Might anyone either have the APK to share or guide me in unfreezing something that I froze in error?
Thanks folks
The answer me app has a red phone icon, it should be at the top of Titanium backup's list, so it's pretty hard to miss...If it's not there because you uninstalled it, you could just reflash the system image for your version...
I have a Lenovo A606 phone with me that was preloaded with Android KitKat. I'm still new to the technical part of Android, so I decided to explore my phone by rooting it with Kingroot, which allowed me to access the system drive to remove bloatware and etc. The phone also came with a crappy launcher, so I decided to replace the launcher with Google Now Launcher and then remove the original launcher so that the RAM and processor is not choked on any background processes. This, with an intention to give my phone the stock look.
A couple of months back I decided to factory reset my phone and guess what. After that, my phone became launcherless, if that's even a word. Now, the phone just boots into a white screen that says initializing, please don't turn off device. This can take forever as I'm pretty sure what the software is trying to do, which is load the default launcher which is now missing.
Some of the solutions I've looked around the web is installing a custom rom to the phone. But the phone now pretty much is useless as it does not allow me to do anything. Not even getting to the settings page because the notification bar does not have a direct button to settings but has options to toggle wifi, bluetooth and so on. It allows me to drag and drop files via the PC but that doesn't do much. I've tried some adb techniques, all of which failed because of one error which is "error: closed". Anyways, I'm not that savvy with that.
With all due respect, if there's anyone out there who can help me get through this problem by all means, not even running its stock rom or maybe run another similar rom. Oh, and btw, it's running android stock recovery. Your help is much appreciated and your help explained detailed and listed step by step would be even more great! Thanks!

XDA Assist
This mean bug hit us twice, so that it might be helpful do document it in order to help other persons with the same problems.
Symptoms:
Home button does no longer work.
Notifications and notification pulldown menu do not work (as consequence, data transfer via USB cable is impossible).
Quick settings do not work.
Factory reset does not work.
Developer mode cannot be enabled (as a consequence, no adb connection possible).
Automatic orientation disabled after every reboot.
Mobile data enabled (!) after every reboot (very funny if you pay 0,23 EUR per megabyte and do not notice...)
When changing volume using the physical keys, the device sometimes reboots.
This list is not necessarily complete, as there might be more symptoms.
According to various investigations (see links below) the system thinks that the Setup Wizard is still running. This bug presumably was introduced with some Android version (Oct 2015), came to the Moto G, and when the bug was removed, the Moto G did not get the corrected OS version.
When does the problem appear?
There are strong indications that the problem always occurs whenever the device runs out of (flash) memory. Note that our device did not have an SD when the problem appeared.
How can one heal the device?
There have been some recommendations how to repair the phone (see links below):
Change user
Run the SetupWizardTestActivity via adb
Run some additional command (see below) via adb.
Run the SetupWizardTestActivity via Nova Launcher.
Factory reset via Recovery.
What did really help?
In fact all methods 1 .. 4 failed, because no adb connection could be established (see Topic 5. of the symptoms), and the Setup Wizard got to an endless loop when I started it via Nova Launcher. So finally I used the Recovery system to reset the device.
If anybody ran into the same trap or has a better solution, please tell!

How to reset the Moto G
Reflash stock image via fastboot... if it continues to fail and you followed all instructions EXACTLY, your handset is defective, get it repaired or replace it.
The "setup wizard" bug is a known, but extremely rare, issue... but the symptoms are not the same as what you are experiencing. Home/Back/Recent buttons do not work -AND- the notification pull down do not work, in every case reported simply re-running setup wizard corrects the issue.
symptoms same , root reason may differ
Tenebrous sound thy words, and partially enigmatic is their meaning.
In fact:
- I forgot to mention the non-working notification pulldown menu, so I added this in post #1.
- Thus the noticed symptoms exactly match those described in the links I provided.
- However, the root reason might subtly differ, and, additionally, all proposed therapies except factory reset failed in our case.
- It might help to re-flash the stock or flash an alternative image to cure the device, but it was not necessary in our case, so it's not really a better solution.
I found this Lenovo Moto G3 forum dealing with the same problem:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/MOTO-G...cations-and-lock-screen-not-work/td-p/3255406
Post #9 mentions "my storage was running out".
Here is another one, for a slightly different device:

hey to chime in, I've got the same situatrion as of a few days ago on my Motorola Droid Maxx 2. WISH I could find a root exploit for this damned thing. I hate dealing with issues on it. Who has time for this garbage? I plan to do a factory reset (or try while expecting a failure as noted in original post here.)
Thanks for documenting your issue Ahkah as it at least has helped me feel OK about myself here. Excellent choice of wording. To the other poster, why do you speak so authoritatively to say that if _____, phone is defective? That's annoying and not true unless somehow here at android-is-still-interesting.com "defective phone" means "I dont know what happened."
What I have in common to your described condition:
- ran "low" on storage according to pop up.
- used some feature offering to "clean" hard disk or whatever. This may have been in FX file browser or else a native android feature or else a motorola app feature. Unfortunately dont recall. One of the few options it gave was to clear cache of all apps. Seemed risky to me but I hit it any way. This may have been the root cause.
- notification pull down reads only "no notifications."
- circle and square softkeys do nothing but give the visual feedback or sometimes vibration feedback that acknowledges the button press.
- pulling down from top of screen while bnotification area is already pulled down does nothing whereas normally it would open quick actions.
- searching /system for "wizard" comes back with a lot of results for apks, all of which do nothing, throw error, or install more of themselves.
- clicking developer options tells me that dev options are not available for this user. As far as I can tell there are no other users on my phone.
- clicking build number or whichever item in about phone multiple times to enable dev options does nothing.
- volume buttons to act funky and while fiddling with the phone that was one of the few things i was doing. simultaneously the phone was repeatedly rebooting. maybe correlated but i dont know i was messing with everything i knew to try.
Additional observations:
- phone takes a long time to boot up on some power off/ power ons.
- phone largely works if i could somehow ignore all the above.
- phone sometimes reboots mid-boot animation
- all above is observed after freeing up 3 gb on internal memory and i've had multiple gb free on sd card throughout issue.
I hate you motorola. I hate you google. I hate you verizon. I hate you CIA and NSA. I hate you United States. I hate you capitalism. I hate you imperialism. I hate you western world. I hate you ideology. I hate you technology. I DONT EVEN WANT A PHONE and this is how i get to spend an hour today.
I prefer Android standard layout from left to right, BACK, HOME, RECENT_APPS. Is there any way to swap BACK and RECENT_APPS?
An app called "Buttons remapper" works great for swapping capacitive keys on my Samsung Galaxy S4, but on the Mi-4c, it only works to remap the BACK button, but can't remap RECENT_APPS.
UPDATE: Nevermind, remapping MENU worked. Thought I'd tried it and it didn't work, but now it seems to.
Correct, it's "menu" on this device. But for a better solution, I suggest Xposed with "Xposed additions" module.
I figured out why Menu appeared not to work the first time, I probably killed the app in the recent apps/task manager and that reset all the accessibility settings required to make it work. I learned that I have to lock it in the task manager so it doesn't get killed.
I haven't yet figured out how to root on this device to run Xposed. Actually, Kingroot does work, but I hate it because it seems to install with it some adware. I get a random app pop up in the Play Store quite frequently. The method of root that I found linked from XDA describes downgrading ROMs, unlocking bootloader, then re-upgrading. However, I can't even find the MIUI 8 Global Stable ROM for this anywhere. I found this China ROM:
http://en.miui.com/thread-424326-1-1.html
Says on there, "There's no global ROM for Mi 4c as this device is sold officially only in China." However, my device shipped with a global ROM. Weird.
