Twrp is rebooting on its own the minute I attempt to flash anything didn't even flash .
Calls reboot phone.
Supersu is installed in used root checker and used play store supersu.
Even after flashing the suspersu in the root method link.
If I flash it bootloop into twrp only way into boot up is to Choose reboot inside twrp.
There's something really wrong and I'm not one to ask how to root but this time I need a fix . I don't believe Odin stock is necessary at this point I have a Bootable O.S.
I JUST CAN'T GET TWRP TO FLASH AND STOP BOOTLOOPING.

What would cause this reboots within a call
Twrp just rebooting soon a as swipe to flash any kernel.
I think the only way I can flash kernel is with flashify or a kernel flashing app
I don't have a pc with me to flash as a .tar
So I need it as a flashable zip and
What twrp Version works and what's the code name for tmobiles version
Can I get a solid link to a known version problem free and what art kernel are you mentioning ?

Did that and it immediately shut down phone to black nothingness! Almost mimicking a hard brick !
All I had to resort to was download mode and chose cancel to restart and forced manual recovery boot which I luckily had to restore back up .

I have a O.S
I have a Bootable operating system Twrp don't work nothing flashes it just reboots into a loop when trying to flash anything . I can only reboot into running operating system when I choose reboot system in twrp.
It has to be a wrong version or maybe because I have OKC Update .
Or I just need philz ,but can I flash philz in a zip format or is it only available as a TAR?
Many readers not to many have good insight.
At the very least just want the stock recovery .img and stock kernel so I can go to stock this phone is so problematic to ROOT !

Calm down BRO!
I am rooted if anyone cared to read rather then take it all out of context .Said clearly I had working SU.
My issue was with TWRP recovery bootlooping evidently noble kernel is garbage .
Don't matter now Philz rec and art kernel did the trick.
I fixed my own issue which is only what one of the 25 views could have simply say in the first place.
And BTW what's wrong with you "BRO " over "HERE" Gettin salty with people. .. worst of all on a black berry .

No no no ... you can have working root and a flaked out TWRP recovery ive seen it a million times just like I told the other commenter whos just here to be a big **** talker !
My issue was with TWRP previousally when I tried and felt like being kind with my explanation that it was Bootlooping During "swipe to install" any zip.
As said before if someone could have simply just helped and said what to do where to find it and how in a 123 manner I could have resolved and closed the thread !
Either way for anyone reading this

I just today rooted my lovely Nexus S, 9023 or what its called (non branded or nothing)

Just tested with ROM Mananger, it can backup just fine.. as soon i choose a ROM to install it loads recovery and fails, just like when you do it manually.

Sounds like stock recovery installed itself. If you are rooted remove/rename /etc/install-recovery.sh then reflash cwm manually or through rom manager.

I have had this happen on my NS4G. I know they are a little different, but it seems like you are having the same thing happen that I did and to solve it, I open Windows command prompt(or terminal depending on you OS) and fastboot flash recovery (insert recovery.img name here) and reflashed the recovery partition with clockwork. Very easy fix. Just make sure you boot straight into recovery after flashing and flash the Rom you want to flash before booting back into stock(also make a nandroid before that). After that you shouldn't have any more problems unless you unroot. There must be a small glitch somewhere when flashing the clockwork doesn't fully erase stock recovery partition.

The Nexus one did the same thing. Most OTAs verify / replace this file. It's easy enough to deal with if you're unlocked and rooted.

i installed cm11 through one click installer had cwm on it now suddenly after reboot its taking me to simple recovery?!?

in my rom manager app its still showing current recovery as cwm 6.0.4.5 but when i reboot to recovery it takes me to simple recovery

first off, get rid of rom manager. itll has so many issues and will cause you many headaches. what you did first is not flash a recovery to your device, you just booted it. thats only for a one time use. you need to flash the custom recovery to have it permanently on your phone.
Reflash your recovery. And I recommend TWRP. I hear complaints ALL the time with CWR due to bugs but never TWRP. I've used CWR in the past on my Droid X. But I've since gone TWRP and I'm never looking back.

coz im afraid after deleting rom manager ill be stuck with simple recovery with no chance of getting into custom recovery

use the flashify app, its free, and can be used to flash other things besides a recovery. its a great app. you dont need rom manager to get into a recovery ever. if you press the power button(long), youll get a menu, press reboot. then youll get 3 more option, reboot/recovery/bootloader, press recovery(after you use flashify to flash your recovery).
I recommended Rom Installer over Flashify. It will download your recovery for you and keep it up to date. It will provide ROM updates. Also you can create a queue of zips to flash before you reboot. Then it flashes them automatically. It's a really good app. Way better then ROM Manager. Made by Jrummy so you know it's good . Not trying to bash @simms22. It's just my preferred app.

it wont cause any problems, and please get rid of rom manager. really, it WILL cause you more headaches than its worth, and it already has.

No. UNINSTALL ROM Manager now please. It's causing issues. Custom recoveries replace stock ones. Flash TWRP or CWR using the methods we suggested.

uninstalled it...now downloading twrp through twrp manager app.... tried from flashify was getting a message stating flashify dsnt hv supersu access...so doing from rom installer now...hope it works!

yes its showing me congratulations! device has root access
just finished installing twrp through twrp manager...showed flashed recovery successfully but when i reboot manually again i get directed to simple recovery
when i go into simple recovery recovery this is the message i get:-

of course there is a way to root 5.0.1.
use fastboot to either flash a custom recovery (TWRP is probably your best bet), or use fastboot to just boot into the custom recovery without flashing. Either way, once your in recovery, flash SuperSU (download here http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip)

You sir are very wrong, you cannot flash that zip in recovery because it no longer works with lollipop... (Sigh)
PS. I have a custom recovery and unlocked boot loader so your suggestion are invalid

actually, it does work. with 5.0.1, I'm rooted. Except when I flashed 5.0.1, SuperSU v2.40 hadn't yet been released, so I rooted with SuperSU v2.37, and then updated via the playstore when 2.40 came out. but it definitely works with Lollipop.
p.s. you need to have an unlocked bootloader to install a custom recovery (which is what I suggested doing). So in fact, my suggestion is completely valid and 100% relevant. In fact, I had assumed that you already had an unlocked bootloader when I posted.

yes, and the way to "manually re-root" is to flash the ZIP in a custom recovery. You the app installed, but not the SU binary. So flash it in TWRP.

CF Auto Root and flashing the superSU2.40.zip in recovery both root android 5(0.1/0.2). Did it myself and confirming root access.
You can root with the same chainfires files for 5.0, and then you can update supersu and twrp

Crazy. Done it to me a few times. I even decided not to help him ever again some time ago, then took pity on him yesterday or the day before and the he did it AGAIN!
He's just a school kid, but you'd hope he would learn from his attitude, but apparently not.
What's worse, is he isn't even picking up the knowledge that people give him or reading the stickies. He's been Here pretty much a year in the n5 forum and cannot even be bothered to.understand the basics. Asks the most basic questions every time.
So I installed the lateat CM12 nightly, wasn't really impressed yet and went to go restore my backup and once it's done restoring, it get stuck at the bootscreen animation. Just keeps going and going abs going. I used the latest cwm touch recovery as CM12 is not compatible with MultiROM. I would just flash the factory img back but my computer decided to it doesn't ever want to recognize adb avid fastboot on Linux.
Anyone know where I can find a flashable zip for the factory 5.0.1 ROM? Any help would be appreciated!

I'm on the stock ROM you linked too, stock recovery, and unrooted but, when I get the update for 5.0.1 and try and install it, I get an error. Do I need to relock my boatloader?

You're on a custom Rom. The ota isn't going to work. And you don't need to relock your bootloader. If you can afford to wipe your data download the 5.0.1 factory image. Extract it and use the flash-all.bat

My computer is Linux, and adb and fastboot for whatever reason unknown to me, won't install. That's why I asked for a zip file of the factory image. Thanks for the help though.

Well, unfortunately, there isn't a 5.0.1 flashable rom available right now. If you can't get fastboot to work on your Linux machine you're kind of sol as you need to be 100% stock to get the ota to work. That means stock recovery in your case. Google recovery zip collection xda. There's a custom recovery flashable stock recovery there.

I'd work on getting adb/fastboot working on your Linux machine. You're going to need it in the long run.

Did some more digging, got it install, and flashed the factory img for 5.0.1 and twrp recovery then superSU through twrp.
Mods please lock the thread thanks.
Get wugfreshes Toolbox. It has access to all factory images. Some people are not fans of "one click solutions" but this has never let me down.
There's a flushable zip on here also. Put it in a search in the app and you should come across it. It IS the full version.
Did you ever find out why the CWM restore led to getting stuck on boot animation??
Just ran into this last night. Tried restoring 2 different CWM backups and both got stuck on boot animation.
I eventually got a new ROM flashed. Going to try TWRP recovery I suppose.
I know I never had this problem with 4.4, this was the first time I have restored a LP ROM..

My guess would be; cwm hasn't been optimized for Lollipop. Cyanogen has just recently started working on 5.0 and they probably haven't touched the recovery too much. But that's just my guess.

Yea figured something like that.
Got TWRP installed, will try to update after my next nandroid restore so that any old CWM users will know..
Does anyone else find that rebooting to recovery using twrp doesn't happen? I've tried re flashing recovery with fastboot and even selecting in bootloader boot to recovery after and still just boots into android.. Any ideas? Is it chainfires boot.img causing the problem?

Try unplugging phone from power source then attempt to enter TWRP.
I have done. I've just downloaded selinux changer app. Set permissive and then re flashed twrp again and now I can access it.

How you install custom kernel without TWRP?
My device is stock and i want to install elementalx + supersu to root. But i need TWRP first.
Fastboot the img file of twrp then boot into recovery from the bootloader

Got the same problem - I flash the TWRP image with fastboot successfully but when I try to enter recovery, it either reboots or shows me the stock recovery. I'm on stog Android 6, trying to flash a different rom and kernel...
we are on the same boat @granets . when i boot to custom recovery it just boots directly to homescreen.
Have you tried the other kernel i linked above?

Left the boat earlier by downloading TWRP again (for a third time!!!) and it worked fine. Guess when downloading from their site, there is a high percent chance you will get a corrupted file. So far around 50% of all images I download don't work, and every time the problem is different. Maybe try that

good to know that! what i did is i used Wug's tool and booted the phone to twrp and then i locate the permanent twrp flashable zip on the "Ready to Flash" folder and "Root files" and then boom! got a working TWRP now :good:
