Slow battery charging - I think because of saliva in charging port - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tittle says it all. My toddler just played with a phone. A dozen times till I found out charging time takes substantially longer then usual. Now it takes 3+, or even 4+ hours with 2A power supply. Also usb charging port is greenish. I think due to oxydation since she put her saliva there...
Is there a way to clean usb charging port considering it oxydated?

Hi,
Something like that may be a good solution :
http://www.parts-express.com/tech-spray-rid-ox-deoxidizer-6-oz--341-295
Be sure it's dielectric !!!
Spray a little, let it act and push/pull your plug few times...

Thanx for suggestion!

I used a toothbrush and 70% alcohol. Now charging time is 2hours from 5% - 100% with 2A charger

I thought so too
Today I plugged phone to a battery charger, actually to 2 different ones and it showd 4 hours to complete charging. I don't know what to think. Has my battery died? Or did I permanently damage phone's charging port ?

Moto G not charging fast...not implemented in kernel, so...

[Q] Emergency Battery Charger

Hi Guys,
I am looking for an Emergency Battery Charger for Desire HD.
Mainly i want something on the cheap and light to carry. Here is what i have found. Please help me, which one should i buy:
1)350MAH EMERGENCY BATTERY CHARGER
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/350MAH-EMERGE...sAccessories_PDABatteries&hash=item27b565b877
2)Proporta USB Turbocharger 1200
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Proporta-30...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1289178938&sr=1-1
3)USB 7 In 1 Emergency Battery Charger 48000mAh (Not sure if this will work)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-7-1-Emerg...ories_MobilePhoneChargers&hash=item35ad2b52c4
4)1500mAh Extended Backup
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Extended-Back...709?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item45f6a04fa5
the first one seems rubbish, only 350mah? and the output current is half that of a usb port.. i don't think it will even charge your phone at all and probably only slow down the battery discharge.
I've found this one:

It'll arrive today so I can say how it works only this evening.

i bought the first one (it was really cheap) and have it on my keyring with my keys, yes, of course it only slows down the battery dying, what did you expect? it is a tiny battery for EMERGENCY use, not a backup battery that can fully charge your phone multiple time for god's sake!
anyway, from 15% battery it charged it to 80% in about 35 minutes
Not a particularly cheap option but I use a Powermonkey Traveller. Although it was relatively expensive it can charge 'almost' anything with it's range of adaptors. It's seen me through many a smartphone, PSP, DSi, camera emergency!
Just my thoughts...

the product says: "You can charge this charger by USB or Sunlight."

what does that mean? if the battery charging through sunlight i'm not able to charge the phone? Or won't it be possible that the battery charges throught sunlight while the mobile is charging ?
work that thing only with sunlight oder may with roomlight too?
thanx =)

It means that the external battery can be charged by USB or sunlight: I've tested that if it's charged by USB in daylight is more rapid to charge it.
If the external battery is attached to the phone, the phone charges itself and if the charger is under sunlight it charges itself.
thanx =)
and will it only charge under sunlight or maybe in the room too ?

massive 5000mah battery (charged my DHD twice and still had juice). only thing it its quite big and heavy. works well though and if you have 2 USB cables you can charge 2 devices at once. came in useful when my girlfriend forgot her charger when she stayed over. definitely not something to carry in your pocket, but for leaving in a bag it cant be beaten.
How about this one? It's looking exactly for emergency

Hey man, did you complete your work or even start whole trade of yours
Not the cheapest but will charge almost "anything" and it has a 5000mAh battery, go to Amazon and search for Veho VCC-A007-PBP Pebble.
I use this 5000mAh battery pack. It works very well, I get about 4 full charges from it and is able to charge 2 devices at the same time.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TeckNet-Uni...dible-Blackberry/dp/B000NDQ92W/ref=pd_cp_ce_1
I bought the 4th one - 1500mAh Extended Backup. It works well enough for me. I get more or less a full charge out of it.

AA Emergency Usb Charger

Hi.. Just want to share my experience. I recently bought a cheap emergency charger that uses 2 AA batteries.. I tried using it with a brand new duracell batteries. While charging, the batteries gets so hot that it would smell like its burning. It only charged about 15% on my DHD and stopped charging. The battery though still got many juices. I could still use it with other devices such as flash light. Please share yours.. Thank you..
I don't know about that one, but maybe you coud try one of the power packs. I have a 5000mah (gives 3 full charges), plug it into USB/wall to charge, then there is a different adaptor to charge the phone.
I have this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004AM1OK4/ref=oss_product
There are packs that go up to 11000mah.
I have an old Philips SCE2110 which uses only one AA battery and does not even support microUSB (have to use an adaptor), but it also barely charges - even when connected, the battery voltage continues to drop, but somewhat slower...

Battery Care P3110...

Hello Guys!
I got today a new P3110 and I discacharged it to 2% and I plugged it now to load.
I have seen the charger pushes 2A @ 5V , this is pretty much for a battery of 4Ah, I know from my batteries ( AA AAA and others) that the charging current should be max. 1/3 of the capacity of battery.
So my question is: IS it better to charge it with the Samsung Galaxy S2 charger which provides only 0,[email protected],1V ?
It would last app. 6h to charge it till its full ( can be done over night, hopefully the charger wont melt)....
What do you think about that? Woul it harm to battery(li poly) to do it with small current?
cheers
If the charger seems much then tell me why Samsung made it.

You have got to be kidding me. ITS SO THE TAB CHARGES FASTER. IT WON'T KILL THE BATTERY!!!!
Its because the tab has a much bigger battery 4000mah vs 16xxmah.
It charges it faster

Of couse it charges faster, but for long therm it will kill the battery faster. Its usual, like every battery. Every fast charger is not good for battery, I just wanted to know if somebody have a expieriance...

Battery life span is a matter of charge cycles 0%-100%-0%. That is 1 cycle and surely batteries don't discharge to 0% not charge fully to 100%
-AFAIK- Even with lithium, Its the heat build up when "fast" charging that shortens any battery life - (same with fast discharging- I would never use those apps that do so) , so I agree with shOne. I have the same model & have noticed the battery does get quite hot when mains charging,( though have never thought to check charging AH).
I would imagine that the only damage you would do with using phone charger would be to the charger, by sucking out more than it can handle, not the battery ! -
-- But why not charge it via a pc usb port - this take a lot longer (so presume much lower AH) than the mains plug in charger - Most usb pc ports are nowadays - permanently live, even when pc off - same with the usb on a modern sky/virgin box. My battery does not get hot, charging this way. I dont know what the charge rate is charging this way ,because both the inbuilt notification & my battery app say "discharging" - (although actually charging)
(I agree that Samsung have provided a quick mains charger, and wouldnt be averse to selling replacement batteries earlier than would otherwise be neccessary, !! (I wouldnt use cheap replacement batteries in any I.T. stuff - I "blew up " a laptop once as a result!!)
I believe that the 2 amp charge is reasonable with the out put of most lithium batteries for this type of device. Since it is a lithium it will not be overcharging or over heating due to sensing, it would be a serious fire hazard... fyi I use a2 amp charger from Wal-Mart and I do not notice my device really heating up...

Agreed. The worst I got was a cheap replacement off a street without a packaging for a dollar. When I plugged it in for a few minutes the battery turned extremely hit and the battery expanded as if it was a puffer fish that took an electric shock

LOL.........mine was a supposed "genuine" DELL replacement battery I got on EB from HK. On the first charge (in the bedroom) heard a strange hissing then a loud "pop". Some of the underside casing was actually melted and there was battery gunge all over the internals!

A lot of things I bought from Hong Kong off Ebay actually came from mainland China pfff.....
It's those low quality defects they send you. Mass market goods in china doesn't require quality passes unlike Hong Kong where it's illegal once they get pass customs.

OK, electronics 101, chargers DO NOT PUSH power to a a battery, 2 AMPS is the chargers MAXIMUM OUTPUT, the device plugged to the charger PULLS what it wants (up to a maximum of 2A of current) so it can charge in a reasonable amount of time, you may be able to charge your tablet with a lower output charger but all it would do is take longer to charge (if the charger even had the power output greater then the static draw of the device), which is why most tablets simply CANNOT be charged by the USB 2.0 port on a computer or other small .5 A output chargers. You may very well charge while generating less heat, because of the slower charge cycle using the .7A S2 charger, but at the same time if you try to use the tablet while it's charging on the smaller charger it may very well drop in battery percentage as the smaller charger may not be enough to maintain the current requirements to charge the battery and run the device.
So in short, would charging with the smaller charger harm the battery, NO, but if it is enough to actually charge the device it will take atleast DOUBLE the amount of time to recharge as it would with the regular 2A charger.

slow charge

I read a post here and I didn't quite understand which charger should I buy for a quick charge.
Appreciate the help.
The one that came with the phone.
The phone will only take in what it needs.
This phone charges the fastest I have ever witnessed on AC obviously.

only use the charger given with the box cause they have settled some voltage parameters according to phone's battery ...so dont go for any other charger ...it might heat up your battery or any wrong can be happen to u ....
bro it is 2300 mah battery so it takes time to fill up some juice into battery ...
dont worry

All (good) USB chargers are going to charge at the same 5V as the Nexus 5 charger. Any charger from another phone will work without issue, but if it's under 1.2A it will charge more slowly (many are 1A). Just don't buy a cheap, poorly made charger and you'll be fine.

The major assumption here that a slower charge leads to a higher run time is not true.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
A slower charge leads to the saturation charge phase taking less time while the constant current phase takes longer. The battery in the Nexus 5 and the accompanying 1.2A charger is meant to give you the quick 70% charge that is discussed in the BU article and then trickle charge during the saturation charge. If you're charging overnight it doesn't matter which method you use, you'll still reach 100% around the same time and the runtime will be the same.
Tnx everyone, I have the original chargr but I lost is cable.
I tried many cables but that just are not fast enoug.
Any idea where I can buy one?

Charger Cable modded

Would charging with a moded charger(which is ment to tweak it so it charges a lot faster) have any harm on battery?

Not true buddy. check ebay they have modded cables. Those cables charge 3 hour faster. I know it . I have timed my original Cable with a 2.1 AMP charger it takes 5-6 hours. with this cable it takes only 2-3 hours.
Forexample: - Today I put it in charge at 4:30 and at 5:48 it's 58 percent from 15% .. else it would be like 29-35% .. thats the difference.
Update: - It finished charging at 6:30 .. super fast!
