Oh, thanks for making this app!
It would be so great to let the user specify the path to a file to edit!
I mean, if you don't have read permissions for a folder, but can access a file inside it, that's the best way to go, I think.
What do you think?

Does the macro system have compatibility with ASM(ASseMbly) code? If not, could you add it?

I added a video.
Is there any feedback ?
Tried it... doesn't recognise CBZ or CBR the two most common net comic formats
I'll unzip/unrar them and try again.
It definitely needs CBZ and CBR support.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
You are right. I will add support of cbz and cbr.
What about performance ?
Is it smooth (depending of your phone or tablet) ?
Thank you very much for your help.
Regards.
Seems super-smooth. Will be happy to use it if you can add the CBR/Z support and keep it running as nice!
Although I am running on a Samsung Galaxy SII running CheckROM RevoHD v4 and the excellent DarkKnight v2.4.3 kernel... so most things run pretty smooth!
I added both file support : .cbz and .cbr.
Cbz (zip) is not cpu consuming so app is still smooth.
About Cbr (rar), it's no as smooth as before but still usable.
Don't hesitate to give a feedback.
Thanks !
I added PDF file support.
So now the list of supported format is :
JPG
PNG
PDF
CBZ/ZIP
CBR/RAR

Thanks, gonna try out my new Walking Dead Comics!
Thanks for the link! This works great on the Kindle Fire. The scrolling is kind of annoying at times, but it hasn't failed to open any file I've thrown at it yet. Is there an option to tap to turn pages instead of scrolling? If there is, I can't find it. If there isn't, there should be. Other than that this is a great comics viewer. Great job!
Drunk texted from my FactorySense Thunderbolt.
Thanks onestoploser for your feedback.
For now, there is no option to go next page (only by scrolling).
I will add an option for this.

Sometimes it seems to scroll too far, like into the next page after the one I'm going to. Setting the velocity speed to none helps, but still happens on occasion. That's why I was wondering about a tap to turn the page option. Like I said though, this is a great app!

Call or text your favourite contacts with one touch (updated on 11-Jan-13)

I have a habit of using direct dial/direct message shortcuts instead of using the widgets available in play store because I believe it saves battery as well as RAM usage. But since I flash new ROM (of different flavors like ASOP, MIUI, JOYOS) every now and then it was difficult for me restore the data and I had to create entire shortcuts all over again. Also I have a habit of changing launchers very often. In this case also creating contact shortcut was a boring task. Hence myself and my team came up with this simple app to create shortcuts in a simple way.You can find more details on play store itself.
You can download this directly from google play store at

Good App
Thanks for the app. i was looking for the similar app for a long time. Good :good:
Please provide your valuable feedback for the improvement of the app.
Very useful app. I remember there was a similar app (dont remember the name though) for Android 2.1 and below. I am waiting for the other features mentioned by the OP as well. I would like to see an option for changing the number of columns I can have. At present it only 3. Thank you for the app
I checked this application and:
* interesting
* look not very nice
* not intuitive
But good luck!
Thanks Hiandroid for the feedback,
Definitely we will add the feature of changing contacts columns in the coming version.

Text Aide started out as a simple Xposed module called Text Xposed to add 3 options (Define, Search and Share) to the Contextual Action Bar when some text was selected while typing.
But now it has a lot of features which do not require Xposed at all.
• Define Picking up from xDictionary by @perseus0807, this displays the definition of the selected word as a pop-up. Ideal when you are reading an e-book or a news article and find it rather distracting to open a dictionary app again and again.
There are two ways to do this without Xposed
• First is to activate a feature called "Copy to define" from the settings. As the name suggests, you just have to select some text and hit the copy button.
It can be easily paused from the notification when you don't need it.
Enabling the + button shows you a pop-up with the copied text, which is useful in apps like WhatsApp where a word can't be selected singularly from the chats
• Second is to share the text and select Define
• Third is to use the homescreen widget
• For Play Books you can also use "Web search" feature. And for Moon+, FB Reader dictionary feature choose "ColorDict"
• Offline definitions available in 5 languages currently: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish
• For more languages you can use my app Dict Aide which supports StarDict dictionary packs
• Online thesaurus with a list of synonyms and antonyms
• In addition to that, you can quickly switch to Wikipedia for additional information and Wiktionary for languages that currently do not have offline access. You can do this in any language! Just modify it in the settings.
• Expand This gives you system wide text expansion. You can define a macro (shortcut) like @addhome to type your full home address! Very useful if you type something often.
Just set a shortcut and let Text Aide do the rest!
• Search You can add a list of your favourite search engines and access them quickly from a sidebar. Also includes a floating browser
• First way is to use Copy Aide and enable the search button from the notification.
• Second is to share the text and then select 'Enhanced Search' from the dialog
• Third is to use the search button in AOSP (based) browsers or apps like Wikipedia.
• It can also be done using the homescreen widget
• Share You can do the following things by sharing text
• Copy - As the name suggests, you can copy it from the share menu
This will also be shown in browser selection menu (when you tap on a link).
• Dial You can use the shared text to place a call.
• Open As URL - This allows you to open the selected text in the web browser as a URL/link (if it's valid).
• Speak Using this feature, you can make (almost) any text on your device speak using TTS engine.
This can be very useful if you're learning a new language!
Please watch the video for a good demo on how to use it.
Xposed gives you additional control. You can double tap a TextView (which means fields like WhatsApp chat bubbles, YouTube comments, Play store description, etc) to force selection.
This, however, has some limitations and might not work in all apps.
You will also get all the five buttons (Define, Dial, Search+, Share & Speak) in the contextual action bar on selecting some text in most apps.
For Chrome, you can use my module called Chrome Selection Patch
Browsers like Dolphin, Opera, etc are not supported
Installation
Download from Play Store or Xposed repository and install as any other app
Known Bugs
Overflow button gets camouflaged if the background of action bar is white (Android bug)
Selection handles and paste button overlap the overflow menu
Anything else? Let me know
To Do
HTC Compatibility
Add more search engines
Upload to Github for translations, etc
Browser support
Thesaurus
Update dictionary
More ideas are welcome

For Xposed users, this is useful in apps like Google messenger where double tap doesn't work.

Copy which will show up in Share and Browser complete action menus
and Open as URL which can open the selected text in a browser

- You can now select the views you'd like to keep. Default is set to English and Wikipedia
- Wikipedia's langauge can be changed according to your needs. Default set to English (en)
- Blacklist added for double tap feature as it has been problematic in some apps
- Some other minor changes
2.7
- Double tap to make TextView selectable. Works in most apps! Exceptions found so far are Tapatalk, Google messenger, CyanogenMod MMS app. Could be more but works fine in WhatsApp, Xposed installer logs, YouTube comments/description, etc

- Custom font to maintain consistency across all devices.
- Font size mechanism changed. Lesser steps but more (and better) control

- Misc improvements to the pop-up dialog
- Material design
- Edit fields in Chrome browser patched (Define not available)
- French translation thanks to @Micks29
2.1
Quick fix update
- Improved pop-up: Smaller size and better padding. Must look much better now
2.0
Major Release!
The Define framework has been revamped completely!
It was previously based on xDictionary's code, and hence used "WordNet" database for definitions. Unfortunately, it lacked many words, as you must have experienced.
Now, Text Xposed has switched to Livio's Dictionary Provider code.
Advantages
- The most obvious advantage is that the module's size has shrunk to ~50 KB.
- The defintion is now displayed using WebView, so you can pinch to zoom and select text inside it to copy or share
- Livio's dictionary is very comprehensive. You can even search for small words like is, that, etc. And it gives you etymology, synonyms, translations, etc along with the defintion!
- The module and dictionary app complement each other really well. You have a different UI to search for words, when Text Xposed is not accessible.
- You get proper and direct updates for the dictionary from Play store and I don't have to worry about maintaining the dictionary.
- Livio provides more dictionary packs for Italian, French, German and Spanish. Support for these will be added eventually, but low priority for now.
If there are many requests, I might do it earlier though.
Other Changes
- Toast is now gone. Although, it is possible to extract a part of the definition, I felt the main chunks were still too big for a toast.
- I will, however add a time-out option for the pop-up.
- HTC compatibility implemented. Need some more feedback though
- Code Cleanup
TL;DR - Just tell me what to do
- Ok so first of all, delete the "xdictionary" folder. It is no longer needed.
- Then you need Livio dictionary. Either download from here, or press the Define button after a reboot. It will show you a dialog with the link
1.1
- Fixed Define for some devices
- Changed toast for dictionary data copy confirmation
- Other minor changes
1.0
- Initial
Chrome Selection Patch
This an add-on module which allows you enable Search and Share in edit fields of Chrome
AND Search in Incognito mode.
If Text Aide is installed as well, Define, Dial & Search+ will also be available.

Works fine for me everywhere. Screenshot in the banner is from WhatsApp.
Which device do you use? ROM? Android version?
Also, please upload the Xposed log. I'll have a look
And thank you all for the appreciation. Glad you liked it!

I meant the screenshot in my first post. The app I'm using there is WhatsApp. And since you have a Nexus, it should work without any problem.
I'll take a look at your log
Were the dictionary files copied properly. You should've seen a “Done” toast appear?
screenshots
here some screen shots just in case
i did say successfully installed ,it is 33mb 9 files . and i can define the word test within ur app .

Oh yes you did mention that. I'm sorry. Very late here and I'm sleepy
And I don't think there are any errors related to this module in your log. Will have a look again in the morning.
No problem . tomorrow is another day . hopefully we'll find out what went wrong . thanks a lot & good night.

[APP][2.1+] HybridLauncher - Open Source

Im sorry, but as I'm not able to create external links on XDA yet, you have to enter the urls on your own. If I had been able to create a DevDB project, I would have done it.
HybridLauncher
HybridLauncher is a completely new type of Android-Launcher!
It's designed to be highly configurable and innovative.
Screenshots:
As I am currently not allowed to insert images, please have a look at hybridlauncher.bricklore.de
In the past, the underlying principles of Launchers have significantly differed from those of desktop computers. In particular, the homescreen was only able to show Widgets and Apps, usually arranged on a grid, and usually only able to display a finite (small) number of icons at once.
We adapt the concept of desktops to smartphones by providing a homescreen whose capacity is limited only by your phone's memory and without constraints on the type of items it can show.
We improve the concept of desktops by providing not only completely free positions, but also arbitrary tilts, sizes, and aspect ratios of the items' icons. The homescreen's size is dynamically adapted, such that an infinite number of icons can be displayed.
Technically, the homescreen is simply a folder. Actually, every folder can be used as homescreen (and there's an effectively unlimited number of those). Other folders can be directly accessed (the HybridLauncher also doubles as a file manager) and individually designed, just like the homescreen.
This is solved in way robust against changes of your ROM:
The layout of every folder is stored in small file (".layout") directly within the folder. Thus, if you change your ROM, by reinstalling the Hybrid Launcher, you instantly recover your homescreen (desktop).
HybridLauncher is available in two different versions: "Lite" and "Full". While you can enjoy full functionality with the Lite version, it shows a permanent notification in the statusbar.
Unique features of the HybridLauncher include:
Unlimited homescreens with individual backgrounds
Real files on the homescreen just as on the pc-desktop
Freely positionable items with optional grid or magnetic axes
Items individually adjustable
Item size and rotation continuously adjustable
Dynamic layout-size
Direct execution of shell-scripts
Links to other folders and files
"Open with" dialog as known from PC
Highly adjustable
Available for Android version 2.1 up to 5.0+
Data privacy is our highest priority
(HybridLauncher does not require internet access, no data will be submitted)
For maximum transparency, let us explain why HybridLauncher requires the following permissions:
VIBRATE: When you long-press Items, your phone will vibrate.
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: HybridLauncher is a filemanager. Thus, it should have permission to write on sd-cards. In particular, if you want to use a folder on the sd-card as homescreen, then a .layout file needs to be created on the sd-card.
WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE: This is generally the same as WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, but on newer devices (5.0+) the access to the external sdcard is blocked by default and needs this extra permission.
READ_CONTACTS: Contacts can be placed on your homescreen (e.g. to open the SMS app quickly), so HybridLauncher has to access your contacts data. HybridLauncher will not submit any data (have a look at the source code).
SET_WALLPAPER: An app needs this permission to change the background image.
SET_WALLPAPER_HINTS: For background parallaxing the system has to be told the size of the wallpaper.
Information:
HybridLauncher is available in the Google PlayStore, or on my website (hybridlauncher.bricklore.de).
HybridLauncher Lite:
Play Store: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.fluxnetz.hybridlauncher_lite
Mirror: bricklore.de/android/hybridlauncher/release/hybridlauncher_lite.apk
HybridLauncher is OPEN SOURCE and licensed under GPL v3, you can view the source here: git.bricklore.de/hybridlauncher

Thanks for your feedback!
I have just reimplemented the wallpaper scaling, which should fix the problem.
Please have a look at the update and tell me if it worked for you!
Best regards
Since your launcher is open source could you please add it to F-Droid? Would make it easier for people not using play store or gapps like myself to keep it updated than periodically checking your website
As a happy tester, here are the direct links to your really nice app until you can add your own:

Looking good
It's nice to see a launcher that offers something slightly different. So many of them just seem clones of each other. The ability to place icons anywhere and not be constrained to a grid is something I've not personally seen before.

Although it seems quite a bit of work to do, I will hook myself into it right now.
--UPDATE--
It's not that easy for HybridLauncher, as the git repo is hosted on my own server which makes things more difficult (no https, minor problems). Additionally fdroid is not able to build from these souces without "understanding" the exact instructions (One has to preprocess the .java and .xml files in a special manner)
Unfortunately I wasn't able to figure out how I can add a prebuild binary .apk to fdroids repository. If you could guide me, I would supply those binaries until I have fixed my server issues.

Yeah I have noticed the same thing, and thats why I made HybridLauncher.
I wanted to try something completely different.
F-Droid
I'm not a developer so I'm afraid I can't be much use troubleshooting your issues adding your app to F-Droid. I'll ask my friends who are and see what they say. You could also ask on the F-Droid forums, they are always willing to help add a new app
Thank you, really good work.
I cant download from play store....maybe its banned in my country....please can you provide apk or link to apk dwonload?
Sent from my HM NOTE 1LTE
@bricklore crashes when i swipe right or tap next on the welcome screen. log attached. my device is samsung galaxy y duos, gt-s6102, running gingerbread 2.3.6 rom. it's an ldpi device with 289 mb ram only.

[App] [5.+] FOSS Image Editor [Open Source]

I want to introduce my new image editor bevore I will release it on F-Droid and Play Store. The app is fully Open Source. And needs no unnecessary permissions (only write on storage to save the edited pictures). It's lightweight (< 5 mb), clean, easy to use and nice looking.
Features:
adjustments: brightness, gamma, saturation, ...
filter: sepia, monochrome, invert, poster, comic, ...
add text: add, resize and rote text
crop: crop, rotate or flip the image
Privacy:
permissions: only "read and write on sd-card"
dependencies: no Google dependencies
sending user data: no user data will be collected and send to any other servers.
"FOSS Image Editor" doesn't have permission to use the internet
To achieve this, I'm using several libraries (see in the About --> license dialog). I will only add new features, when it doesn't make to much trouble. In the best case there's a library to achieve the implementation of new features. So please test "FOSS Image Editor" and give your feedback. The Open Source Community is depending on users, who share their experience.
Changelog:
### v 0.3:
- new: custom crop
- new: hide app icon from launcher
### v 0.2:
- new: warning when overwriting original image
- new: changelog and license file on Github
- updated: help dialog
- improved: quality of saved pictures
- fix: remain original file extension
Regards
Gaukler Faun

Thank you. This is indeed simple, clean, and very useful.
Would you consider supporting PNG ? Now they can be read and imported, but the output of the edited image is JPG.

Thanks for the feedback. At the moment I'm on vacation, but I will look when I'm back home.:highfive:
Warning - critical bug:
If you save a picture at the moment, it will be saved only in low resolution. So don't overwrite your original pictures. I'm on vacation so it will take a while until I can look into the issue. I updated the OP.
Some of my holiday pictures have now a size of ~ 150 kb. Therefore they had a size > 2 mb.
Update v 0.2
The saving issue is now solved. Thanks for your patience. Download in the first post.
Changelog v 0.2:
- new: warning when overwriting original image
- new: changelog and license file on Github
- updated: help dialog
- improved: quality of saved pictures
- fix: remain original file extension

It seems, that the image you want to open isn't scanned by the media scanner. Here a few questions:
This happens always, when you try to load an image via the build in menu?
With every image?
Dies it also happen, when you "share" the same picture to the editor?
Does rebooting the phone solve the issue?

Thanks for the quick reply. So, answering every question.
# Yes, always, any image, jpg and png, any path, opening from the menu.
# Yes, also shared from another application, file manager or image viewer.
# Working with the smartphone and it's my internet connection right now with hotspot for several devices, so I can't restart it. I triggered just a media provider restart if that was the purpose of your question, but did not change anything.
Edit : There's one one way it will not crash. If I pick using Android's default file picker ( the one part of the OS, DocumentsUI ), then it works.
Edit 2 : It works with Ghost Commander, too. So I guess it works depending on the application. Problems with FX file manager for instance and Simple Mobile's Gallery.

Feature request: Could you add a freeform draw option? It would really come in handy.
Thanks

That's strange I've no of this issues on my side. I also use Simple Mobile's Gallery. I'm on OREO.
Is anyone else facing this issue?

When sharing from Simple Mobile's Gallery ( any image, any path ) there is no crash but I always get a 'Could not load image' error in the editor. In the log I only see this :
Code:
System.err
at de.aosd.fossimageeditor.MainActivity.handleImage(MainActivity.java:367)
... I tried with Android 8.1 and 7.1.2. Anyway, the editor itself works fine. I wouldn't worry about supporting every possible file manager and gallery application out there.

Could 2:3 / 3:2 ratio be added to the crop options ?
Or alternatively / in addition, be able to specify pixels in width and height ourselves, maybe. With the free option is guesswork now.

At the moment I'm working on my browser. But the alternative suggestion sounds good. I'll implement it. At Monday school starts again (with a lot to do and the next vacation will be at Christmas). So if I forget it, please remind me.

Thank you for this version. I have been testing and see two issues consistently repeating.
# The cropped images are degraded, noticeably, in quality, compared to the originals. ( Is this the same bug that happened on an older version, maybe ? )
# The crop specifying values doesn't really respect the values given. I try, say a fixed 720 pixels cut for instance, but get 913 pixels ( or some other random number ) in the exported crop.
I've tested both jpg and png.

Hi, some questions:
Is It possible
- determine jpg compression rate when saving an an image?
- determine wether to keep/change/delete EXIF-data when saving an image?
