Help!!! Soft bricked S3! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello...
Stock Verizon S3 rooted with towel root...no problem.
Tried to install twrp via the twrp manager app and it said it was successful.
When I try to boot system or recovery I get:
"secure fail: kernel" in the top left corner in red
and
yellow triangle with "!" and "system software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help"
Ran fine with root for a couple weeks, this just started after trying to install twrp.
I CAN boot into download mode.
How can I recover the phone?
TIA

You have to use Odin to recover the phone back to stock. Please please please read before you attempt to install anything. You cannot install any custom recovery other than safestrap on a locked bootloader
Nexus 6 via VRToxin

Thank you...my mistake completely. I have odin, where can I find latest files to go back to stock?
Phone was rooted and on 4.4.2
Thank you!

Do all the steps you did before to root your galaxy s3, but this time without the battery. This happened because the update T-Mobile sent to their customers, made the stock flash recovery override any image flash via Odin if the battery was present. Do that and It will work.

[Q] Need help with unrooting VZW GSIII

Hey everyone,
Recently I rooted my GS3 using this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
After a successful root, I tried to run CWM and all of the sudden it rebooted to a screen that said "software not authorized by Verizon Wireless". This is not so much a problem since I can just boot into downloading mode and then cancel and it will boot normally, but it seems I have tripped the flash counter.
My question is whether or not you think my bootloader is unlocked. I want to unroot my phone because I realize that I do not know enough information about rooting to continue with custom ROMs and I am having connectivity issues after I rooted so I want to go back to factory settings. I want to know the best way to unroot my phone, I have read that I need to use Triangle Away, but it says that it will brick my phone if I use it on a locked bootloader, so I am not sure what to do at this point.
Please let me know if anyone has some suggestions!
Thanks :good:

Sounds like you understand most of it, you just didn't unlock your bootloader properly.
Download ez unlock version 1.2 and install that, you can unlock your bootloader from there. At that point you can flash any custom rom or use your custom recovery without issues. But if you want to go back to stock...
Download triangle away then run it, that will reset your flash counter.
Then Odin flash a stock Rom, then accept any ota needed, then you're completely stock.

I think so, you mentioned that the app needed you to have the bootloader unlocked. EZ unlock is how you do that, so I would do that first.

Thanks! EZ-Unlock worked perfectly. I went ahead and unlocked the bootloader and flashed CM 10.2. Figured I might as well try something out while its rooted.

Rooted now wont boot ! Help please

Recently rooted my Tmobile Tab 2 with no issues that I could see, got my superuser going and verified the root with Root Checker all was good. Then went to boot into recovery and saw that I had not TWRP so I grabbed a recovery installed via Odin and then restarted tablet and when it did I had it boot into recovery gave me the message "recovery booting" then would just turn off anytime I would try the Download mode or Booting it would just flash the recovery booting, what can I do to fix this an start from scratch. ADB ? if so does anyone have some resources to link me to try

Yeah there is a bit of a trick to get recovery going the first time, and it's not mentioned much. After you flash the recovery if your tab starts to reboot it will rewrite the original recovery. You have to catch it and do the power + volume down to get it to go straight to recovery. It's all about the timing. It took me flashing it about five times before I caught it just right. Just keep flashing it in Odin until you get it, you're doing it right your tab is just fighting it. After you get it the first time you'll have no more issues.
or uncheck "Auto-Reboot" inside Odin and use the Button-Combi to boot directly from Download-Mode into recovery after flashing
First time my Counter = 5 until i got it work

I was able to finally get it into download mode and flashed a new recovery and that fixed the error , I am now unable to load a rom onto my tablet keep getting the Status 7 error , maybe im just not understanding what the instructions mean from the sticky I saw about it, but anyway anyone can elaborate on it.
wich recovery installed? (please post name & versionnumber)

There is no new Rom out for your ATT / TMOBILE Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
Don't use Roms from P5100, P5110 or P5113 - this meight brick your Dervice!
SGH-T779 Model #
So with my type of tablet I can only use roms that are for the SGH-T779 or just go back to a stock rom?

Yes, that's right! Or do you like to have a bricked device?
Never flash things from a different device to yours!
If you have a SGH-T779 - only use SGH-T779 -Files (e.g. Roms, Recoverys)
There's some development on CM for your device only, but no Rom released: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364028

So with the link you provided would I need to do the status 7 fix which is deleting the asserts line or is that necessary with this CM 10.1
don't remove assert lines - this will keep your device alive! there is no Custom rom out for your device! only a stockbased one.

[Q] 1st Hard Brick, I Think?

Got the Casual Root, Unlock Bootloader, Install Custom Recovery .jar file about a week ago. Rooted my phone, no problem. A few days later unlocked the bootloader, no problem. Just installed ClockWorkMod Touch Recovery and tried to boot into it and got the yellow triangle with "System software not authorized by Verizon found on your phone. Turn off and go to store for help. At the top in red "Secure Fail:Kernel. Did I just brick my phone? Searched for a way out and found a few but they are for 4.3 and I'm running 4.1.1 and not sure if it's even bricked. Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You unlocked through casual right? Sometimes it doesn't always take properly.
Boot into download mode, and hit volume down to force the phone to boot into the system. Download ez unlock version 1.2 and install it, open it and unlock, then you're good to go.
If you can't get that to work, you need to Odin this rom, reroot with casual, then get ez unlock and make sure you're unlocked before you flash a custom recovery:

Yeah, tried to unlock with Casual. Tried DL mode before I posted and didn't work. Worked now and up and running. So the phone locked because bootloader wasn't unlocked when I tried to flash recovery. Got it. Thanks, thought I bricked it.

Thank you again. Installed the latest CWM Touch I think and now just need to pick a ROM. With my DroidX all I had to do was root , install recovery and flash. Now I'm seeing custom kernels and modems and firmware. Think I'll read a little more and flash on the weekend. Thanks again. By the way, which Rom did you link me to that you wanted me to flash?
Added later: Going to go ahead and flash that zip you sent. It doesn't say what it is but I think it's the 4.1.2 stock or some version of it. Want to get on that before I try customs. Thanks again.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy S3 Clockworkmod 6.0.4.5 Reboot into Recovery Problem

I am new to this so please be gentle! Lol. I am running 4.4.2 and have already rooted the phone. I verified that it is rooted using Root Checker. I installed Rom Manager and installed ClockworkMod Recovery and all seemed to be okay. When I click on Reboot into Recovery in Rom Manager app I receive a message stating "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless store for help." Also at the top of the screen it says SECURE FAIL: KERNEL .
I can cancel the Recovery and restart the phone and the phone works properly but I cannot enter the Recovery to do a nandroid backup with my ultimate call to flash custom roms to gain battery life and delete bloatware etc. Any assistance is appreciated. :crying:

You can't run a custom recovery like cwm, twrp and so on running 4.4.2 NE1. The only custom recovery you can run is safestrap. As far as custom roms you can no longer run those either only BL (bootloader locked) roms. No CM or anything similar

Thank you for your reply. Like I said, I am a novice. Just so I understand, this means I am stuck with the Kit Kat 4.4.2 operating system? So rooting the phone only gave me the ability to delete unwanted bloatware? What if I reverted to 4.3...can I use custom recovery and custom roms then?

Ugh. This phone is killing me. Battery drains too fast and operation is too slow. Just trying to modify it and hold out until the S6 comes out. So another dumb question, since I cannot get in to Recovery mode now, how do I restore that? Run safestrap? Delete Rom Manager, etc?

To be honest I'd say yes remove rom manager. I don't know enough about safestrap however

Deleting the rom manager does not remove the cwm that doesn't work so I can't get into recovery. If I use safestrap, does that replace cwm and then I can boot into recovery ?
